“I thought you didn’t do relationships, Ash?” she mocks. “I didn’t. You’re a game changer.”

Wow! Where do I begin . . . I have been a fan of Harper’s books since I first got my hands on a copy of Axel and have since read every one that has come out the minute I was able to get it. Not once have I ever been let down by her amazing ability to wrap me up in her story and make me fall in love with her alpha men.  I went into Cooper thinking that Asher was going to be my least favorite of Harper’s men. We haven’t known him from the beginning like we have the others and I was worried he was going to be a poor replacement for his brother. Nope! I was wrong! COMPLETELY! Ash is all sexy and protective and LORDY did I love it all!

“There isn’t anything to be ashamed of. Your tits though . . . Damn, now those make up for the extra weight.”

One of the hardest things in this book was watching Ash waste his life away by drinking and pretty much being a grade A asshole! I honestly feel for him and he has plenty of reason to want to drown out real life. But boy was he an ass. (Although to be honest don’t we kinda love an ass in our books sometimes.) He was an ass who knew who he wanted though and that was Chelsie. Chelsie had her own drama to bring to the table and it was nothing to be taken lightly! She is keeping a HUGE secret from Ash and it is something that could really destroy the only happy things he feels like he has left. OK, I am going to stop talking plot before I give anything big away.

“I’ve told you before, you have nothing – not one damn thing – to be afraid of when you’re with me. Why do you keep acting like I’m going to hurt you? I take a deep, much needed breath. “Because Asher . . .Because you hold the power to crush me.”

I will say this book was very different for me than the others. I didn’t find it to be action packed like Axel, Cage and Beck but instead the emotions were the driving force here. While true to Harper’s form Cooper was super sexy with some of the best one liners writer, this story and these characters were more about learning to trust each other and be honest, Much like Uncaged was for me this was a deeply emotional ride that. At times I just had to put my kindle down and breathe. I felt so deeply for the pain these two have encountered and so desperately wanted them to get their happy ending!

“Holy Shit, I could come right now – just from sucking his cock.”

On the whole this book was as good as if not better than other in the series. There is not a book written by Harper that I would not whole heartily recommend for people to read. She tell a great story and with each book her writing gets better and better. Cooper is 100% 1-click worthy!

Review

This book hooked me from the very first page! The author doesn’t waste any time setting a quick pace right from the beginning. “What Doesn’t Destroy Us” is a fairly gritty read and is not MC “lite” by any means. The Devil’s Dust bikers deal in drugs and arms and have no problem taking out anyone who gets in there way! If you don’t like rough, tough and bossy alpha males, then this is not the book for you!

Dani has grown up completely sheltered. Her mother is super strict and has had a short leash on her since she was born. Dani’s entire world changes when her mom whisks her off in the middle of the night and moves her into the Devils Dust MC clubhouse where her estranged father, Bull, is President. When she first lays eyes on the clubs Sargent-At-Arms, Shadow, it is lust at first sight. Her new companions are very different then what she is used to but the more time Dani spends here, the more it starts to feel like home.

Shadow has always had it tough. Growing up in a broken home, he ended up in a juvenile detention centre at a young age and his future did not look very bright. Bull and the Devil’s Dust MC saved Shadow and he is at his happiest living the outlaw lifestyle. When Dani suddenly shows up it throws Shadow for a loop. He can’t seem to get her out of his head but making the moves on the President’s daughter is a big no-no and could lead to a bullet in the head!

The chemistry between these two is electric and the sex was super-hot! I really liked Dani. Despite her stifling upbringing she is sweet and caring but at the same time, tough enough to stand up for herself. I went back and forth with Shadow. He seemed to have a split personality. Sometimes, he was really sweet and caring but then could flip into major asshole territory. There was a little bit of a lull near the end of the book and I found myself waiting for something to pick up. I didn’t have to wait too long though because shit hit the proverbial fan and I was left with a major cliffhanger! I am not usually a big fan of cliffies but this one was pretty epic and I can’t wait for the next book because I really have no idea what is going to happen next!

“Keep an open mind. First impressions aren’t always correct,” she said from behind me as we strode down the hall. 

“I’m not expecting Prince Charming but those three are wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am all the way. Is a little interest, a little romance, a first date with a toe-curling kiss too much to ask for?” I inquired over my shoulder. 

“Maybe you need a wham-bam to get back into business. Like get it over, then move on to the romance and the toe-curling kisses.”

“Harrumph,” escaped me before we came out of the hallway and into the main bar. Three steps into the room, I stopped dead in my tracks. I became a deer in headlights when I noticed a person sitting sideways at the bar. Dark brown hair. Square jaw. Dark winged brows. Sensual lips with a rocks glass pressed to them. I gaped as he tipped the glass higher and amber liquid touched his lips. 

Kara ran into my shoulder. “What the hell?” she asked, rubbing her jaw and stepping next to me. “Don’t pull this again. It’s only one more drink.”

“It’s him,” I somehow said, though still in shock. “My lunch guy.” 

“Him? What are you talking—” She followed my frozen gawk. “Holy shit, Naomi! He’s the guy you watch at lunch? That’s not a bike—that’s a luxury car! Like an Aston Martin!” Kara had a thing for luxury cars. And shoes. And clothes. And purses. 

I nodded as the woman next to him gave him a sultry stare. Jealousy flared within in me. Hopefully the daydream kind, but yeah, he was an Aston Martin compared to the three ten speeds waiting in the other room. 

Kara smacked her forehead. “I should have known. Why didn’t my stupid ass put two and two together when you described him? You know who he is, right?” 

Locked on him, my eyes turned huge. “What? No.” 

“He’s—”

“Aggggg, not listening to Kara.” I covered my ears. “Don’t tell me.” Sure, I stalked him at lunch, but I didn’t want the possibility of becoming a full-time stalker. More than that, I didn’t want my lunchtime lustful fantasies ruined by reality. I was more than aware of it being a fantasy. I liked it as a fantasy.

“After work, I’d head home for some online gaming. Oh, the excitement of my life.”

I was extremely excited to start reading Reality of You. I am a huge Jean Haus fan after reading her New Adult series Luminescent Juliet and I knew that I would love this new romantic comedy too just from the blurb. This book was a fun and refreshing read. I cannot wait to read more books from Jean in this genre in the future.

“Had I known you were running a sweatshop I would never have taken this job.”

Reality of You focuses on Naomi Porter, who has given up men after being burned too many times. Naomi prefers to just sit back and drool over the man she is lusting over in the safety of her workplace lobby rather than actually engage in any kind of a relationship with a man. When one of her friends arranges for her to work as the sexy man’s (Reese) secretary in a tropical location for a week it seems like a good excuse to lust up close. What she encounters instead is the very demanding and critical boss from HELL! By the time the week is winding down she is sure that lusting at a distance is a much better option.

“Too demanding?” “At least at work,” I squeaked under the spell of those warm eyes. He smiled, slow and sensual. “I can be demanding in other places too.”

Once they are back home and she is no longer employed by him Reese seems to start actively pursuing her. Naomi can’t figure out why this sex on a stick man is coming after her but knowing his track record of not staying with a woman for more than three weeks she decides to throw caution to the wind and go with it. The big question here is which one is better,  the fantasy of this man she has been watching for seven months or the actual reality of him.

“We were moving fast, fast, fast. And I liked, liked, liked.”

This book was so much fun. Reese as a demanding asshole of a boss was hilarious because I never knew what he would say to her next and Naomi was a comedy of errors giving him plenty of reasons to make sarcastic comments. Once  they got together the book took a super sexy turn, Oh my my! I love Jean’s writing as always she grabbed me from the first page and wrote a exciting story that I just could not stop reading. I really hope that Jean plans to write more in this genre soon because I really enjoyed this fast and fun read!
