Synopsis

Josie Banks is a girl without a past.  After being found unconscious with no memory, she was shuffled in and out of foster homes where she suffered years of abuse. An experience that left her broken, damaged, and clinging to drugs and meaningless hook-ups to numb her pain.

When Josie disappeared years ago, she took a piece of Tristan with her.  She’s the girl he thought he lost forever—the one he’s never been able to forget.  Now a twist of fate has brought them back together, and he never wants to let her out of his inked arms again.  But Tristan is haunted by a dark past of his own.  On the run from ruthless criminals that shattered Josie’s world years ago, reentering her life puts them both in danger.

As Josie and Tristan’s lives become tangled once again, they find themselves unwilling and unable to escape the relentless pull that draws them together.  But in Season Vining’s Beautiful Addictions, will the past leave their love in ruins—or bind them together for a lifetime?

Reviews

Meet Josie, a broken young women with amnesia. Thrust into the witness protection programme and countless foster homes after her father was murdered. She has no recollection of how and why her father was murdered or anything from her past. To numb the pain of her forgotten life and the abuse she suffered in foster care she drowns herself in booze and drugs.

Then Tristan comes into her life, a boy from her past who was in love with the person she used to be ‘Mackenzie.’ Tristan is desperate to find the girl he loved within Josie while battling his own demons. Not only that Josie’s horrific past is now catching up to her and she is no longer safe hidden under the identity the whiteness protection programme gave her.

Parts me of me LOVED this story. It was full of suspense, passion, love, redemption, heart breaking story lines, characters I enjoyed reading about and a good plot.

I loved Josie. Some people may find her difficult to connect with but I felt her pain, I felt her heartbreak at how her life had turned out and I admired that, despite being broken, she was still strong by just surviving in the first place and by doing things such as helping out the other kids on the street with food.

Tristan is someone I have definitely added to by BBF list. I liked that he was slightly different to most male leads I read about. A bit of a geek but it suited him and he embraced it, and it was sexy on him. He was a bit more reserved but still had a powerful presence and I could feel his desperation for wanting Josie to come back to life and his love for her.

The plot was also really captivating. It dragged you in pretty much from the beginning. The first scene we have with Moloney hooks you in and you know something bad is going to happen to Josie and that her life is no longer a secret, that she is no longer safe. The story line between Tristan and Josie really broke my heart. When they are at the diner on one of their first meets and Tristan remembers the girl he loved and Josie has no recollection of it; the author really made me feel the sadness of their heart wrenching, unfair lives.

There were lots of surprises and twists and turns that kept you reading page after page. Different story lines like Josie and Tristan’s relationship, the crime involvement, whether her memory would return etc, all kept the story interesting and left me wanting more.

However the reason I can’t give it a 5 star rating is that there were just too many points of view. The chapters kept changing to different characters POV and even within a chapter, swapping between different people. Honestly it got confusing who’s POV I was reading and it was hard keeping up with many characters and what part they had to play within the story; Tristan, Josie, Monica, Moloney, Alex, Mort, Rob etc, I just felt like there were too many people and it was a bit hard to keep up.

The ending was as explosive as I knew it would be. When we get a look into some of the characters lives in the future it was both uplifting and heart breaking. I have to admit I shed a tear when we look at what Rob is doing.

I do have to state one of my favourite lines from the book;
“Don’t be dismayed at goodbyes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again”

Overall this was a brilliant dark and gritty story, from an author who’s work I haven’t read before but after this book I will definitely keep a look out for more.

Synopsis

I thought I had it all figured out.
The only way I could ever escape the evil hold of my parents was to run and never look back.
Once I was out of their reach I could grow and become the woman I was meant to be. I could finally live my life in peace, but little did I know I can run but the scars that they left on me will always be there. I still lived in fear.
At least I made a friend who knows the truth about me and my past and accepts me for who I am. I thought I had started to live a little but I had no clue what life was really about till this tall dark handsome oil field worker walked in to the bar I worked at and turned my already screwed up world upside down.
He had my attention from the first hello but I was too frightened by my past to even give him a second thought.
But I am glad he never gave up on me. Carter Wilson saved me from myself, but who is going to save us from the past that seems to still haunt me?

Review
In Pleading Paradise Rylee James needs a new life.  She is eighteen, just graduated high school and is getting the hell out of Dodge.  Rylee has had enough of her dad’s strong hand and her mother’s instigation of the situations at home.
Rylee jumps into her car and heads towards Mexico, on her last dime she is close to a little beach community aptly named Paradise and decides to settle down there.  Due to her past, Rylee isn’t looking to make instant connections, just find a roof over her head and a way to put money in her pocket.  Finding a job at a bar quickly, Rylee is comfortable enough to call Paradise home.
Carter Wilson works out in the Gulf on an oil rig, so he has weeks on and off at a time.  On his off weeks, him and a few of his fellow co-workers hang out in Paradise as well.  Carter knows Rylee from the bar, but has never had the opportunity to really get to “know” her.
Rylee has befriended the man that owns the bar and his daughter, we fast forward three years with Rylee’s friend dating Carter’s friend and Rylee feeling more comfortable in her own skin.  After an incident at the bar one night, Rylee decides to give Carter a second look.
With the walls Rylee has built up around her, Carter is having a heck of a time earning her trust to learn about her past.  Things were done to Rylee that she can never forget, however wants to move on from, hopefully with Carter’s help.  The story gets pretty convoluted and a bit unbelievable once Rylee’s past comes back to haunt her.
The book packs a lot into a few pages, but still seemed to take a while to finish, as I just wasn’t connecting to the characters.  It could also use a grammar check.  While I am not an English major, there were quite a few typos and run-on sentences that I found distracting as I read. Pleading Paradise started off with a good story line, however got to be too much for me.

Fragile Truths By D.H. Sidebottom and R.M. James Release Blitz

FRAGILE TRUTHS (Shadows of Sin #1)

Authors: D.H. Sidebottom & R.M. James
Genre: Dark Fictional Romance
Release Date: March 31, 2014

SYNOPSIS
To live is to suffer; to survive is to find some meaning in the suffering.
Friedrich Nietzsche.

Frankie…

The bitterness is consuming. It’s intensity slashes and claws at my insides, it’s hatred wrenching my soul as it curls and nurtures my need for revenge.

HIS torture only feeds my vice. I won’t let HIM break me, only strengthen me. The pain HE gives is welcomed, it’s rawness fuelling the loathing inside with each of HIS thrashes and tears on my pale skin, with every harsh truth HE breathes in my ear and with each of HIS crippling holds.

I have waited too long for this and I’ll never let the bastard win.

He will have to end me before I give in.

But now HE has a weapon against me. Something I swore throughout my life I would never let in;

Love.

Tate.

Tate…

Her strength astounds me. HE doesn’t seem to break her.

HIS relentless persecution and determination to bury her under his furious reign and brutality eats at my soul. It has found that dark place inside me, the pit of hell I had locked and secured away, and enriched it, demanded its flourish and ripened its ferocity. The family wrath.

She’ll never give in, and I pray every night as I guide her through the darkness that tomorrow will bring the light to her soul before it is consumed, finally, by the plague of HIM.

Evil.

Jude.

Jude…

She blossoms under my torture, the soft suppleness of her skin ripping and tearing as though her soul is trying to break free from the agony.

I’ll allow it, because I can. Because I need her soul. I crave the sustenance it feeds my rage with, my thirst for cruelty quenched by the sounds of her desolate screams and my hunger for blood, nourished by the slow drip of her life force at my feet.

She thinks I won’t break her, so does he. They underestimate the blood that slithers through my veins. It’s the blood that tenures those around me.

The bloodthirsty.

EXCERPT

“I guess you’re right –

Paisley, was it?”

God, he even makes my name

sound like a sex object.

“Mmm hmm, and that’s

something

else you owe me. Shouldn’t I know the name of the brave knight in shining armor

who saved me tonight?”

At this, his grin turns to a

full blown smile and I fumble with my drink a bit. Holy shit, he has the most

gorgeous smile I’ve ever seen. His teeth are blazing white like his shirt

against his skin and his dimple deepens, “I think I’m more of a dark knight

than a knight in shining armor.”

Holy.

Fuck.

He smirks at what I can

only

imagine is my jaw flopping to the floor again. “Corbin,” he finally says,

extending his hand for mine. “Corbin Ray.”

When he says his last

name I

notice the touch of twang in his voice. He’s Southern, too? Dear God, help me.

He takes my hand in his and squeezes lightly, sending a quick thrill through

me. I focus on keeping the drool inside my mouth and squeeze in return. “Nice

to meet you, Corbin.”

“Likewise, doll.” His eyes

glow

fierce again and the music in Diggs is lost to me. All I can hear is the

thumping in my chest increasing. I’m suddenly extremely warm, though I’m not

sure if it’s him or the alcohol.

unnamed

EXCERPT 2

        &

nbsp;    I flush and

take another, longer sip from my glass. I look up at him, my guiltiness written

all over my face, I’m sure. He laughs a little and shakes his head, “Relax, you

don’t need to explain anything to me if you really don’t want to. I’m curious,

but I’m just glad you met me for dinner tonight.”

            “I am, too.”

I blurt out. Shit, Paisley, you’re

supposed to not be interested. “It was delicious.”

            Corbin’s

eyes are searching mine and I feel him leaning in closer to me. Shit, shit,

shit. “But, uh, I have yoga really early tomorrow. So I should probably get

going,” I fumble, setting my glass of wine down on the coffee table. I go to

stand but Corbin’s hand reaches out for mine, stopping me in my tracks.

            “Wait, what

about dessert?”

            I turn to

face him again and melt to the floor when I see the look in his eyes. They’re

dark, daring. He’s daring me to stay. Daring me to take a chance.

He

slides his

other hand around my waist, leaning closer with every word, “You’ve got three

options.” I know I should leave, should stand up right now and walk toward the

door, but I’m frozen in place and captured by his eyes. “ I could whip up some

delicious chocolate fondue with fresh cut strawberries,” he breathes, tickling

my back a little with his fingertips. My breath is hitched in my throat and I

can hear my heart beating in my ears, the rate rapidly increasing with every

syllable that escapes his mouth. “We could make a trip to the store and pick up

the perfect ingredients for you to show off your baking skills,” he pulls me a

little closer and I have to turn away, the intensity in his eyes too much for

me to handle. My legs start shaking a little and I try to steady them and focus

on breathing. His body is so close to mine now, I can feel his chest against

mine. “Or,” he pulls his hand from mine and touches the side of my face,

running his fingers up through my hair, and begins planting soft kisses on my

neck. “We could stay right here, and I could make you dessert, instead.”

Holy. Fuck.

EXCERPT 3

“You

look like an angel,” he says, grabbing my hand and pulling me back down with

him instead of standing up. He pulls me on top of him and presses his forehead

to mine, staring deep into my eyes. Slowly, he runs his hands through my hair

and pulls me closer, inch by inch, until our lips are touching again. I swear

his kisses could kill me, could take all of my life and I would still want

them.

            “I’m

no angel, just like you’re no knight in shining armor,” I say, thinking back to

Thursday night when we first met.

            “Hmm,

that may be. But I still think we could make a pretty good story together,” he

smiles, kissing down my neck to my collarbone.

            “Oh,

you think so?” I laugh, letting his kisses blaze a fire down my body.

            “It’s

worth a shot, right? Who knows, it could be a fairy tale,” he says as he stands

up, pulling me with him.

“Or a train wreck.”

is a Creative Writing and Advertising/Public Relations graduate from the

University of Central Florida living in Tampa with her husband. Kandi works

full time as a social media specialist, but also works part time as a Zumba

fitness instructor and blackjack dealer.

Kandi

started writing back in the 4th grade after reading

the first Harry

Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and

edited her own

newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught

on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her

“freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after

college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic (like most girls brought

up on Disney movies).

When Kandi

Q&A with Kandi

Who inspired

you to start writing?

My mom,

definitely. She’s actually very into reading like I am and is a great writer herself. I hope to one day

convince her to write a novel, too. She inspired me when I was very young and encouraged me

to pursue my love of writing, no matter what. Everything I’ve written from awful love

poems in high school (yuck!) to decent pieces in college, she has always been there for me.

Why romance?

Great question! I have no

idea. I always pictured myself writing non-fiction or nothing at all, but one

of my final capstone courses in college was an advanced fiction course that

really turned me on to the possibilities of creating a story. Why romance

specifically? Well, we could blame it on my husband for showing me love so

early in life, but it’s probably more Disney’s fault than anyone else’s. I’m a

girl, I love to love, what could be better than romance writing?

How do you write your

novels?

Sporadically and

without

any structure at all. Sometimes I’ll be driving and I’ll whip out my phone and record

something to write down later. Sometimes I’ll write a scene and sometimes I’ll

just write about my character to get to know them better. Eventually, I sit

down and map everything out so that I don’t forget anything (blonde moments are

a habit for me) and then I slowly start piecing it all together. It makes sense

to me, but if I told any of my professors this they might kill me lol.

When did you know you

wanted to write a novel?

Honestly, it hit me out of

the blue. I got the idea for Tag Chaser when I was in the shower and I just

couldn’t shake it. I was dreaming about the characters, writing random scenes

in my head, and just thinking about them constantly. I decided it was a sign to

stop being so scared of failure and just write it. The way I see it, the worst

thing that could happen is no one likes it – and in that case it will still be

loved by me and that’s what matters.

Why should readers pick up

Tag Chaser?

Tag Chaser is a unique

story that I think hasn’t been told yet. Often times we fall in love with

characters who are so perfect, either individually or for each other. Tag

Chaser is about exploring our imperfections and learning not to fight that

chemistry that sometimes we just feel, whether it’s easy or not. I think anyone

who reads Tag Chaser will laugh and love, and those are both two very beautiful

things.

Nixon
I checked the time on my cell and leaned against the wall. The desert heat was not in any way helping my already-tense mood and irritated disposition. A guy walked by, flicking his cigarette into the dirt. Note to self: you know you’re tense as hell when you’re halfway tempted to grab said cigarette and suck the nicotine dry from the remains.
And I didn’t even smoke.
Shhhit.
My head hurt, my muscles were sore, and Trace was pissed. I closed my eyes and leaned back against the building.
“Hey there.” A flirty voice interrupted my self-inflicted torture session. I opened one eye, then two. A blond-haired girl in six-inch heels and something I can only assume at one point use to be a shirt, hanging over her shoulder, walked into my personal space. Her shirt-dress thing barely met her thighs.
“Yes?” I kept my sunglasses on. If I took them off and glared, she’d probably run screaming down the street, and I wasn’t into scaring females… at least not in that way. I knew I looked downright pissed as hell.
“Just thought you looked lonely.” She lifted her shoulder and offered a teasing smile. Did that really work on other guys?
“You thought wrong,” I said simply. “I’m holding the wall up like Samson.”
“Samson?” She looked around as if waiting for another man to appear.
“From the Bible,” I clarified.
“The what?”
“Gotta love Vegas,” I muttered under my breath. “Look, I don’t want any.”
“Any what?” She ran a manicured nail down my chest, biting down on her lip at the same time. I could only imagine her point was to get me to stare at her lips, but all I felt was irritation. Damn Chase and Mil. I just wanted to go to bed, but I needed to talk with him before tomorrow.
“Sex.” My voice clipped. “I. Don’t. Want. Any.”
“But” She twirled a piece of blond- hair in her fingers.
“I’m gay.”
“Right.” She snorted.
“I’m into men.”
“Oh really?” She closed the distance between us. Just as I was ready to seriously put my hands on her and push, I felt an arm wrap around my shoulder.
“Hey there, hot stuff.” Tex said in a low voice as his hand grabbed my ass, cupping it with a little too much enthusiasm. “You ready?”
I ground my teeth together and forced a smile. “Yup.”
“Oh…” The girl stepped back. “Um, sorry, you guys, uh, enjoy your night.” She pushed past Tex so fast I was afraid she was going to teeter off her heels and get hit by a taxi.
“Tex.” I seethed.
“Hmm?” He took off his sunglasses and tilted his head as the girl hurried away.
“You can take your hand off my ass now.”
“Why? Afraid you like it too much?”
I pushed against him.
“Just embrace your feelings!” He shouted, earning the attention of a family walking by with their two little kids.
I grabbed him by the front of his shirt and threw him few feet away from me, trying my damnedest not to smile.
“Admit it. You keep me around for comic relief.” Tex nodded with a smirk.
“I admit nothing.” I lost the war against smiling and started laughing. “But I do keep your ass away from Campisi, so remember that next time you start yelling about me being your lover.”
“True.” Tex grinned. “Oh, and P.S., don’t knock it till you try it.”
“P.S.,” I repeated in the same voice. “Still pissed at you for screwing over my sister.”
“Yeah well.” Tex sobered. “It’s for the best.”
“Breaking her heart and bringing in whores is what’s best for her?”
Tex lifted his hands into the air. “Look, I didn’t say my methods were sound or that they were intelligent, just let us deal with it, okay? We’re big kids.”
“Kids.” I snorted. “That about sums it up.”
A town car pulled up next to the curb. Chase got out and then held out his hand to Mil. My eyes narrowed; she looked different. Happier.
Her mom had just died, and she’d survived a bombing.
And she was smiling like the Taliban had just declared world peace.
Chase gripped her so tight that I saw the white of his knuckles.
I tilted my head, still watching them when Tex said. “Dude, you get laid?”
“Tex,” I snapped. “Go get something for their luggage.”
“But
“Go.”
Tex flipped me off, but ended up jogging over to the main entrance while I inspected both Mil and Chase. “I’m not saying this to be an ass
“Here we go.” Mil crossed her arms.
Chase waited.
I licked my lips and tried to appear indifferent. “But if you guys start screwing each other now, I may have to shoot one or both of you. It’s not the time to play house, got it?”
“Play house,” Chase repeated in a deadpan voice as he dipped his free hand into his back pocket, most likely clenching a pair of brass knuckles.
“I know it’s your honeymoon,” I continued. “But this [P1] little scenario you’ve got going on with the whole hot and cold is going to have to wait until everyone’s safe. So Chase, keep it in your pants for once in your life, and Mil, stop trying to seduce the poor kid, alright? It’s like dangling a damn fry in front of a seagull.”
“Who’s a fry?” Tex asked, pulling the luggage cart with him.
“Mil.”
“Are we eating dinner or something? Because I have to admit,” Tex leaned against the cart, “I’m freaking starving.” He eyed Chase and Mil. “Then again, I’m sure you both are too. All those extracurricular really take it out of ya.”
Chase took off his sunglasses, his face twisting in irritation and annoyance, no smile. Nothing. He was pissed.
“Chase,” I said slowly. “You know I’m right. You’re the best I have. I need your focus to be on The Family. Your family. Then you can screw all you want, okay?”
Mil looked like she wanted to punch me in the face. Chase took a step forward, but she stopped him.
“Good talk.” I exhaled. “Chase, I’ll see you down in the bar in a half-hour, okay? We have business to discuss. Mil, you can go find the girls. They’re having dinner out by the pool.”
Nobody moved.
After a few seconds of tense silence where I was pretty sure Chase was trying to convince himself not to strangle me to death, Tex cleared his throat and pointed to the luggage. “You guys need help, then?”
“Yeah,” Chase croaked. “Thanks.”
We loaded them up and sent them on their way.
“Tell me,” Tex asked once we were walking back toward the bar. “Is your only goal to see how far you can push Chase before he kills you in your sleep?”

Synopsis

From USA Today Bestselling Author Nora Flite
She thought she was stepping into fame:

Meeting Drezden Halifax should have been a dream. But dreams are supposed to be sweet, fragile things that whisk you away. Not monsters crafted from hard fingers, gritty vocal cords and a voice so powerful it could tear my guts right out.

Maybe my heart, too.

Becoming the guitarist for Four and a Half Headstones was everything I needed.

Too bad the band’s lead singer is doing his best to ruin everything I am.

He thought she would solve his troubles:

Lola Cooper, god damn Lola Cooper. She was the perfect guitarist, fingers that could summon a sweet song or punch a chord. She’s supposed to save my band, make us come out of this tour in one piece…

But I just want to tear HER to pieces.

No one should make me feel this way. One look at her, one smell, and I knew I’d have to have her. She does things to me that scare the shit out of me. Make me want to slam her on a wall and listen to her cries: eager or fearful, it doesn’t matter.

I’m a monster…
And I don’t even care.

Review

This book follows the story of Drezden and Lola. Drezden is the lead singer of the group Four and a Half Headstones. After deciding that the current guitarist isn’t cutting it and has messed up a time too long, he fires him and needs to find a replacement quick. Enter Lola, she auditions for the position and blows the group away earning her a spot on the tour.

Drezden is drawn to Lola, but he doesn’t know why and he certainly doesn’t welcome the feelings. Lola seems to have sparked something in him, “I need to get it together. It’s been too long since I’ve been around someone who pulled me in, that’s all. That’s all it has to be.”

Lola gets nervous around Drezden, she is drawn to him in the same way he is drawn to her. When she practices with the group for the first time, the nerves show and she doesn’t play as flawlessly as she did at her audition. Lola has a hard time concentrating on what it is that she is supposed to doing when she has to listen to Drezden sing. “The way he sings, I can’t concentrate. If Drezden had put his hands on my shoulders, he couldn’t have gotten any closer.”

The rest of the book, follows them as Lola tries to get use to all the attention the band receives while try9ing to get her feelings for Drezden under control. It also follows Drezden as he tries to fight the attraction that he has to Lola, Drezden doesn’t want to let her in, because he doesn’t want all the consequences that could follow. “I couldn’t risk the band over a f*king pair of pretty blue eyes that turned my blood to liquid silver. It was too reckless. For them…. And for her.”

This book is a will they won’t they book, it makes you want more. You need to know what will happen between Drezden and Lola and also how she will be when she actually gets on stage. Although the book was short, I am looking forward to the next book in the series. Well done Nora Flite on a great first book in this series.

But now HE has a weapon against me. Something I swore throughout my life I would never let in;
Love.
Tate.

The Shadows of Sin.

Review

OK, So, holy freakin smokes!  This book surprised the hell out of me.  I knew I was going to like it, but I loved it so hard!  These two authors really outdid themselves with Fragile Truths!

The story started off a little slow for me and I was becoming impatient, but after finishing this book, I firmly believe that every bit of the back story is needed to fully appreciate and love these beautifully damaged characters and their story.  Frankie and Tate’s story starts out when they are very young.  Their youthful hearts really spoke to me and I loved these two for each other right away.

He helps her overcome a horrendous time in her childhood, and although they are separated for many years, he never stops taking care of her.  Upon their reconnection horrible and terrible things take place.  Some of it stomach churning and sickening.  Tate is still trying to protect Frankie but now the threats are up close and personal.  Tate must even protect her from his own family!

This book had so many twist and turns and unexpected events, I have whip lash.  I will warn you that it is very dark and abuse, torture, and talk of rape are thought out the book.  However, saying that, it was a magnificent love story with some really hot sex!  A simply brilliant book and I cannot wait for the next in this series.
