Drowning to Breathe by A.L. Jackson Review

5 Smooches!

Synopsis
The danger in pretending is it becoming real…
Sebastian Stone, Sunder front man and guitarist with a rap sheet about ten miles long, escaped to Savannah, Georgia, to get away from the trouble he’d caused.
Not find more of it.
The moment he saw Shea Bentley, he saw beneath all her sweet and innocence to something that went deeper.
Darker.
Their relationship was built on secrets; their love built on lies.
Sebastian never imagined how deep her secrets went.
When the past and present collide, Sebastian and Shea find themselves fighting for a future neither believed they deserved. Their passion is consuming and their need unending.
Now, holding the truth in his hands, Sebastian is faced with sacrificing everything he’s come to love to protect Shea and his family.
Two pasts intertwined.
Two lives bound.
Will their demons drown them or will Shea and Sebastian finally learn to breathe?
Drowning to Breathe is Book 2 in Sebastian and Shea’s two-part duet. Their story begins in A Stone in the Sea.
Review
Drowning to Breathe is the amazing, intense and suspenseful conclusion to Shea and Sebastian’s dramatic love story. If a Stone in the Sea was setting the scene and hosting the complications for two lost souls to find each other and fall in love, then Drowning to Breathe is the cataclysmic force that tests how deep and unfathomable their love for one another actually is as more secrets are uncovered and past sins collide with the uncertainty of the future bringing together one of the best written stories I’ve read recently with a set of completely mesmerising characters whether they were Baz and Shea, the rest of the guys in the band or the ultimate book villain, A.L Jackson is a superb story teller.
‘I swallowed hard. “You want to know what I see when I look at you?” When the intensity in my voice hit her, Shea choked out a tiny sob. I took one step closer as I began to speak. “I see someone who’s so fucking sweet and kind that every time I look at her it just about knocks me from my feet, because I’ve had so much bad in my life I don’t know how to stand in her presence. I see someone who I know I don’t deserve, so every time I turn around, I’m runnin’ scared because I’m terrified of ruining everything she is.”’
Sebastian and Shea are a stunning couple, the connection and love and understanding they have for each other really makes this whole saga shine that little bit brighter but it’s also A.L Jackson’s ability to give her characters strong voices, a dialogue that would make Nora Roberts jealous and a plot that keeps momentum, delivering enough tragedy, drama and intrigue through the romance and deliciously hot sex scenes to keep each reader waiting with bated breath for the next sentence.
Drowning to Breathe is poetry in motion, it seems to me that A.L Jackson just gets better and better with every book she releases. She knows her players inside and out and manages to stay true to their natures, showcasing not only their immense strengths but also the flaws and ugly naked truths that haunt them but it’s through their love, strength and adoration for each other that this band of misfits have an unconventional family in each other and Sebastian and Shea and the lovely Kallie find a home together. This is a terrific series and I’m especially excited for Lyrik’s story next.
