As a girl, I became her friend.
As a woman, I could no longer see the child I knew and was forced to fight a growing attraction.
Unable to lie and unable to tell the truth, I left.

Review
Shaylee used to believe in the fairytales her father would tell her about; including stories about the Fae, but when he is killed she stops believing and shuts her mind off from such things. But on her 21st birthday she discovers there is a reason why her father told such stories and the man who broke her heart is the one charged with her protection, development and learning. Will she accept what she is told? Will she let Aden back into her life? And is she in more danger than either of them imagined?
This was quick, fast paced, exciting and magical read that any reader who loves Fae stories will thoroughly enjoy!
“IT IS COMMON AMONG humans to see things not as they are, but as what their imaginations perceive them to be. Experiences are romanticized, and folklore is created. However, some of these tall tales are not as far-fetched as you might think.”
I really enjoyed this fast paced story, it had an intriguing plot line and two leads that I fell in love with. Shaylee was confident, strong and passionate and I loved that she wouldn’t let anyone walk over her and continued to show determination throughout hard times in her life. She was a feisty female and someone I would look up to!
“The next day he left and never came back. He hadn’t even said goodbye. I was torn to shreds. I’d lost my best friend, my hero, and . . . he broke my heart.”
Aden was sexy, mysterious, confident, cocky and definitely an alpha male. I loved how his feelings for Shaylee changed and grew as she did, he was the protector, the best friend and then the lover. His protective tendencies and his thoughts about Shaylee were hot and sexy and he is definitely one of my favourite book boyfriends.
“Despite your stubborn resistance to admitting it out loud, we both know you’re mine. Body, heart, and soul, we belong together. You’re also mine to protect, Shaylee, and I can’t do that if I’m not there. I need you with me like I need air to breathe, baby.”
I was hooked from the first page with this story. The author really draws you in from the beginning due to the writing and plot of this book. I was intrigued straight away and wanted to know what was going to happen. I loved all the supporting characters who each added different elements like some light hearted moments, friendship and humour. The relationship between the two leads was electric and the different elements of the story meant I read this is one sitting! It was threaded with suspense and mystery; is Shaylee’s ex-boyfriend dangerous? Are the being followed? Is she developing powerful abilities for a reason? It really kept me hooked!
“I want it all. I want her to give me her body, her heart, her perfect soul. No matter how many miles I run, I can’t get away from the fact that I’ve already given her all of those things. She fucking owns me, and I can’t out run the reality of it.”
My only complaint was that it ended all so quickly! I definitely wasn’t expecting the epilogue as I feel there were definitely some unanswered questions and it was too quickly wrapped out. Although I actually enjoyed the epilogue, I think it should have come a lot later on after some more development of the story. I can’t wait to read the next in the series which follows characters from this book but I really hope it re-visits Shaylee and Aden and maybe goes back a bit to answer some questions I still have concerning these two.
