Synopsis

Patience McKinnon has never even tried to live up to her unfortunate name. Her sisters would gladly point out that she’s impetuous, fickle, and stubborn to a fault. History has taught her that she’s the only one, besides those crazy sisters, that has her best interests at heart…and she’s not about to let down her guard and let herself get hurt. She did that once…and that was more than enough. Next time, she’s fairly certain that she’d rather just shoot first and ask questions later, thank you very much!

Enter Abel Turner. The suave town attorney has had Patience McKinnon in his sights for years. Sure, he strayed along the way, but he’s always come back to the beautiful blonde bartender that fills his dreams and drives him crazy at the same time. After all, he owes her…and he plans to rectify the bad impression he made in the past with a humdinger of a sensual night.

But that one night may just change both of their worlds…forever. Will Patience overcome her insecurities? And will Abel ever convince her to trust him again?

Join the entire town of Paradise and the intrepid McKinnon sisters in this humorous and poignant erotica romance! Standalone.

Review

“In my world, an empty womb is a happy womb.”

Twenty-three year old Patience McKinnon knows what she likes. She likes a good party, loud music and driving her Mustang with the top down. She likes dressing to kill in tight-fitting clothes, colorful streaks in her hair and dancing till dawn. She really likes her independence. Above all, she loves her sisters, she’s fiercely loyal and, like the rest of Paradise, she’s attack-dog protective over her little sister, Honor. She also knows what she doesn’t like. She doesn’t like relationships. She doesn’t like people telling her what she should or shouldn’t do. And she really doesn’t like Abel Turner. A commitment-phobe who doesn’t have a maternal bone in her body, you won’t catch Patience settling down to do the husband-kids-happily-ever-after thing.

“He had a body that screamed sin, and if she hadn’t been occupied planning his murder in her mind, she might have appreciated the scenery a whole lot more.”

Successful attorney, sought-after bachelor and recently reformed man-whore, Abel Turner has fucked up repeatedly where Patience McKinnon is concerned. Three years earlier, coming off a bad breakup in which his humiliation at the hands of his philandering former fiancée was public, he was drunk, hurting and not thinking clearly when Patience made him an offer he couldn’t, and didn’t, refuse. In his inebriated and emotional state, he left her wholly unsatisfied when he sloppily took her virginity in what Patience has frequently, vocally and very publicly referred to as an epic failure on his part. Having had his epiphany where Patience is concerned, he now knows what he wants, he now knows that she is meant to be his, and Abel, more than anything, now wants a chance to do-over that awful night in the hopes of winning over Patience and claiming her as his own.

Having had his fill of watching “his woman” openly flirting with, occasionally dating and generally being lusted over by the entirety of the single male population of Paradise, Abel sets about getting his do-over. This time, however, he’s sober and his head – heart – are in the right places. A man on a mission, he aims to show Patience not only how good they can be together, but also who she already belongs to if she’d just open her heart, mind and eyes to it. They belong together, damn it! Not being a stupid man, Abel also knows that while she may give into him tonight, the war for her heart is just beginning. Little do Abel and Patience know, however, that not only better memories for Patience are being left behind.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by domineering douchebags!”

Despite her precautions, three months after Abel got his do-over, Patience can no longer deny what she knows in heart to be true: hell has, in fact, frozen over, and she is pregnant. Abel, thinking he was doing the smart thing and giving her time to come to terms with their coupledom, was surprised and confounded by Patience’s evade and ignore tactics, and he was struggling to figure out how to get them on to the path towards a relationship. Having no choice but to let him in on her secret, Patience shows up at his office to share the news and drops in his lap just the perfect excuse that the good attorney needs to work his way in to her life and heart.

“How much deader can you be than dead?”

With the patience of a saint, and after much negotiation and pursuit, Abel finally convinces Patience to give a relationship with him a try. Heavily pregnant, hormonal, emotional and prone to unreasonable, irrational outbursts, Patience puts Abel through his paces when she lands on bed rest. Meanwhile, it’s not just another day in Paradise when threats are being made and a dead body shows up as Abel and Zeke are working on the Fuentes case. But are they related to the Fuentes case or to another horrible crime that Zeke and Abel are looking in to?

“He wanted to marry her. After everything she’d put them through, he still wanted to claim her as his wife.”

The immensely talented dynamic author duo known as Sarah O’Rourke has struck again! You know a book is going to be funny when, flipping through the pages to get to the start, the legal mumbo-jumbo at the beginning catches your eye and makes you laugh out loud. The third book in this fantastic series is well written, sexy and chock full of laugh-till-ya-cry antics, comments and moments. I think one of the marks of a truly talented author is the ability to not only keep the reader laughing but also effortlessly and naturally switching tones to serious – or seriously sexy – when the mood requires it. These two have done this over and over throughout not only this book, but also the entire series.

Incredibly talented, Sarah O’Rourke is an author who’s releases I eagerly anticipate. Their stories are always well written, well developed and rich in descriptive details. The characters they’ve created in this series are so endearing, you cannot help but get swept off your feet in their romances and their stories. It’s back to the edge of the seat for me as I patiently await the next release in this series.  #HangOnZekeYouAreNext
