Synopsis

When Hailey crashes a Half-Life after party, she expects to find the bastard who knocked up her little sister. Instead she meets the sexy front-man who agrees to give her access to his crew if she gives him access to her body.

All Lock demands in return is three days of complete control over the Sunday School teacher. With a contract, because he’s been burned before. One misstep could send the band—and his tenuous sobriety—up in flames.

Hailey and Lock push each other’s limits… Against the penthouse window. Backstage. In the limo and on the elevator. But as the contract counts down, neither are ready for the party to end.

I swallowed planets that fell from the sky,

I captured angels and led them to die,

Let me lead you down into the belly of the beast,

-Half-Life

I received an ARC of this book and I decided to read it going in blind, and not checking out reviews prior to starting it. This book was very different for me than some of the other rockstar romances I have previous read (Lick (Stage Dive, #1) by Kylie Scott, Rock the Heart (Black Falcon, #1) by Michelle A. Valentine, and Real Ugly (Hard Rock Roots, #1) by C.M. Stunich.

Hailey has always been the strong one in the family, not having her father around, and her mother leaving her and her sister to struggle with little money, clothes, or even food. So when Hailey finds out her sister, Chloe, is pregnant by a rocker for whom she had been working as a roadie during the summer, Hailey drops everything to confront the rocker and demand financial support to say the least.

In order to infiltrate the rock group, Half-Life, Hailey is convinced to spend 3 days with the lead singer, Lock, which is a far cry from her day job as a church day-care worker.

Hailey: “We both work for a church, and a scandal would be awful.”

Lock: “Church?…..”I’m surprised you didn’t burst into flames downstairs. What do you do at the church? No, let me guess. Sunday school.”

The progression of Hailey from a Sunday School teacher to Hailey the rockstar groupie and sex-slave, was a little hard for me to take initially. She came across a little prudish initially and then jumped into this role of aggressive, adventurous lover in bed.

Lock: “Don’t look so terrified…this is going to be fun.”

Hailey: Exactly what she was afraid of. She had lived her life buttoned-up and tucked away…[she] was focus[ed] on raising her sister and keeping their tiny unit going.

Unlike other rocker romances, this story had unique points of view from Chloe, Hailey, and Lock, which added to the story. Most of the “action” was HOT and the author threw in some M/M for good measure. Unfortunately, I felt that the M/M did not add to the story and was somewhat confusing when it became M/F/M.

Overall, good story, great sex, and has an HEA. Will look for more from these authors in the future.
