Synopsis

What do you do when the man who you love more than anyone else in the world terrifies you?

This is a question Shyla must confront and it takes her to her breaking point.

The only person who can bring her back is the same person who is capable of destroying her beyond repair.

Shyla has seen a side of Taylor she can never forget. She now understands that not only is he capable of immense tenderness, but ruthless violence. She must decide if she will fully trust Taylor and embrace both his light and darkness, as it is clear both exist equally within him.

Their pasts continue to cast a shadow over their relationship as Shyla attempts to convince Taylor that the only way they can truly embrace the future is to reopen and repair old wounds.

Taylor swears anything he has ever done was to protect Shyla, but Eric’s words haunt her and cast doubts on Taylor’s intentions.

Taylor will do anything for Shyla.

Now she must decide if that is actually good thing.

Review

This book starts three weeks after the last book finishes, we are in Shyla’s head as she is still trying to process what happened on the field. The first few chapters are us getting to read about what has happened in the last three weeks. We get to read about Shy’s guilt for what happened, her confusion over what Eric told her and we read about Taylor trying to help but not really sure what it is that he can do.

Taylor is trying his best to get Shy back to her normal self, he is doing everything that he can to get her to talk and open up, it just takes a while for her to do this. Taylor takes Shy away but on the way to the airport he finally gets through to her, he goes to extreme lengths but he gets results. Taylor and Shyla have a lot of work to do in order to get back to the way they were, especially when she has all these questions, insecurities and doubts floating around because of Eric. Taylor just wants her to fight for herself, fight for them and return to herself. “Watching you crack a smile earlier today was the highlight of my week. I thought I might never see that again. I feel like your light has been snuffed, and the worst part of it is I think it’s me who’s done it.”

The trip away from it all helps them work through the issues that they have. It also gets them back to the way we know and love Taylor and Shyla. They get hot and heavy, the scenes between these are extremely steamy and completely how we know them from previous books. Taylor brings back his dominant side and pushes Shyla as far she can go.

Things since the trip seem to be going well for these two until people from the past come into play, we find out there was more than just Eric out for blood. They was a few surprising people playing quite major parts in their lives, they did a lot of damage and they weren’t forgiving. Taylor and Shyla did what needed to be done in order to get the happy ever after that they wanted and deserved.

Shyla and Taylor’s story is completely tied up in this book, we find out the answers to all the questions from the previous book. We get to find out who was involved in the slow downfall of these two and why they were out to get them. We find out the lengths that they are both able to go to in order to protect the other, bringing a whole new side to Shyla. She comes into her own in this book, she isn’t going to be walked over.

Well done Nina G Jones on this gripping read. I am pleased that their story ended the way it did. I was drawn into this series from the beginning and have enjoyed being drawn into the lives of Taylor and Shyla. I have been completely gripped by their story and all the twists that they have endured.

“Yes, our love is a tragic love – but not for us. Just for anyone who gets in our way.”
