4 Smooches
Synopsis
**This book is intended for a mature reading audience and isn’t suitable for readers under the age of 17.**
In love with a man on the brinks of greatness, Dee has her life figured out. The love they share is comparable only to the love they feel when they find out Dee is pregnant. Josh and Dee welcome their future together with eagerness as they plan a wedding, baby, and the upcoming tour for Josh’s band Wasted Circle. Big things are finally happening.
During Wasted Circle’s first big show, tragedy strikes leaving Dee alone. The life she and Josh planned for ends up being nothing but desolate promises. Unable to watch his best friend’s girlfriend drown under her own despair any longer, Adam steps in to help Dee cope with her loss and the upcoming birth of her baby. Adam is patient, kind and unrelenting. He stands by her side, never faltering despite his growing desire to be more than Dee’s supportive shoulder and the idea that he is betraying Josh. He refuses to give up on Dee and remains loyally by her side even when she admits herself into a psychiatric ward and he is left to father Josh and Dee’s baby.
But even sweet and sturdy Adam has his limits.
Review
Deanna and Josh are the perfect couple. Josh chases his dream with his best friend Adam and they start a band, Wasted Circle. Signed by a major label and beginning a tour is a dream come true for them. But Deanna has a surprise for Josh, she is pregnant with their first child. Josh is super excited to start on this journey of fatherhood. Yet tragedy strikes and it leaves Adam promising to Josh to take care of Dee and the unborn child.
The loss of Josh tears at Deanna and depression rears its ugly head. As I read this book, I felt the emotional tug of war that Dee undergoes. The daily struggle of Dee sheds some light on the depression symptoms. Especially the feelings she endured of needing to be loved and understood. Even though the exterior of Dee looks to be alright, she really isn’t. And it takes the birth of her baby to realize what needs to be done. But if that is not enough of a heartache, Adam has a past that isn’t rainbows and butterflies. I felt a lot of emotions for Adam in this book. I wants to take him in my arms and thank him for being so responsible. At times Adam was taken for granted by Dee. I understood she needed and sought out help but I couldn’t see how she didn’t realize he too needed comfort. Both Adam and Dee succumb to their weaknesses, the past and reach deep within themselves. These two begin to understand that they deserve happiness. This book will rock you. It sent a shiver of reality towards the topics of grievance and remorse. Although there were serious matters at hand, the author did a good job at transitioning to happier, fun times. If you are I search of a book that will tug at your heartstrings, this would be the book for you. I look forward to reading more from Yessi, great job! 4 smooches for Love Always by Yessi Smith.
