Synopsis

It’s been an entire month since Shayler Thompson has orgasmed from something not made out of silicone. If her sour mood is any indication, she needs to get laid like yesterday. So when she walks up to a sexy nerd at the bar and propositions him, it seems like a great idea. Until he rejects her and calls her easy.

Still reeling from his hurtful words, Shayler is surprised to find that the nerd, David, is a Teacher Assistant for the one college class she’s totally embarrassing herself in. When he offers to help her study, she accepts, thinking that maybe she’ll get laid after all. But David isn’t into casual sex, and Shayler refuses any sort of commitment. With enough chemistry to light his dumb Prius on fire, she’s sure one of them will eventually give in… She just really hopes it won’t be her.

REVIEW

Shayler is going through a dry spell and isn’t happy about it…she needs a hot, steamy night to get her back on track. When she sees the geeky but hot guy sitting at the bar she thinks her problems are solved and she will be back to ways soon enough. But that hot nerd is David, and David isn’t interested in one night stands or easy propositions, which he tells Shayler. After being hurt by his words, she is mortified to discover he is a teaching assistant. But will his offer to help her study solve her problem of getting him in bed? Or will David stay strong and try and persuaded Shayler that there is more to them than just one night.

“His texts made her smile. His voice made her light-headed. His touch made her body ignite from the inside out. Obviously, that wasn’t normal and meant something, but she’d be damned if it meant she was in love.”

One of my favourite things of this book is Shayler. She is not your typical heroine. Instead she is cocky, confident, not afraid to admit she likes sex and isn’t shy about getting it. I loved that she wasn’t what we typically see in female leads who are sometimes embarrassed about sex or being sexy. It was refreshing to see a woman who owned it! David wasn’t your typical hero either. He was patient and quite reserved, he was the one trying to convince Shayler that they could be more than just one night. He still managed to be sexy and broody in a way that was very attractive and I really liked that he wanted Shayler enough to be patient and understanding with her.

“Looking at him was too much in that moment. How had she gone so long without him? “I missed you so much,” she whispered.”

This was just a fun, easy (in the good way), enjoyable read. The dynamics between the characters was really enjoyable to read and they both seemed so real to me. It’s definitely a romance but also a story about finding out who you really are, what you really want and coming to terms with it. It wasn’t only Shayler’s relationship with David that we read about, but throughout the story Shayler’s friendships also come into it a lot and we see that maybe Shayler’s outlook on love is even affecting her friendships as well.

“And what’s the problem with being easy, anyway?” Anger flooded her veins, allowing her the energy to sit up on her own. “So what if I like sex? News-*****-flash, it feels good. Anyone who’s had an actual orgasm knows that. So why am I being judged for it?”

Overall, this was just a fun read which was perfect for my long commute. It was funny, sweet, sad and sometimes even frustrating. It kept me entertained throughout and I have to say I think this is one of my favourite couples of 2017 so far!
