Synopsis

I didn’t think I’d ever want to devote my life to someone. That is, until Brin.

I was twenty-six years old the day she entered my life, just when I’d given up hope, just when I’d given up completely on having any shred of happiness in my pathetic excuse for a life. After years of indecision, self destruction and soul-searching, she found me.

Brinley challenged everything I thought I knew. She proved that goodness could still come from that hellish compound. Goodness, bravery and love. She changed everything the moment she knocked on the door of my apartment, acting as brave as a lion, even though she was shaking like a terrified mouse stuck in my trap.

And now, three years later, I want her as my wife. My only wife. Till death do us part.

Just us.

And I’ve never wanted anything more.

Review

“And now, three years later, I’ve never wanted anything more than I want her as my wife. Till death do us part. Just us. My only wife.”

His Only Wife is a romantic and charming novella that allows us a glimpse into Brin and Porter’s life three years after Wife Number Seven Ended.  The entire store is short and can easily be read in one sitting and while overall you will be left feeling giddy and happy for them, there is also plenty of emotion and a dash of drama mixed in too.

“Guys like me didn’t end up with girls like Brin. It just didn’t happen.”

One of the best things to come out of His Only Wife is the insight into Porter’s mind and seeing how his upbringing help to push him into the world of drugs and bad choices that Brin saved him from. My heart ached for Porter and the way he was simply cast aside by his family long before he ever made the decision to leave the compound. He was just a child desperate for approval and love and in many ways these are still the things he desires most in life.

” I want to stand in front of God, if he exists. I want to stand in front of the people we love and proclaim my undying love to you. I want to be bound to you for eternity.”

Brin has grown so much in her three years since leaving her life behind to be free with Porter. But in so many ways her former life is still tainting her existence. She is too scared of repeating her mistakes of the past to fully move forward. But the one thing she knows is that she loves Porter and will be by his side through anything, even when he devastatingly test that theory.

“I swear you have special powers.” “Making you come is not a special power, babe. But it’s my favorite thing in the world.”

The entire novella is a beautiful mix of captivating story telling mixed with lighthearted fun and sweetness.  I thoroughly enjoyed this quick peek into where Porter and Brin are and where their lives are taking them.

“I am a risk, always have been.” “You’re a risk I want to take for the rest of my life, Porter Hammond.”
