Synopsis
For the past eight years I haven’t been living, just … Existing.
The pain, the guilt, and the shame I carry have been locked away deep inside me for so long that it’s impenetrable, until him. Until Connor Reeves.
With a sexy smile and seductive eyes, the bad boy rocker walked right into my life without warning, and now the walls I built that hid all of my grief for so long are now crumbling at my feet.
Now I am left wondering if it’s possible that just as life can cause pain, it can also heal wounds in a heartbeat.
Review
In A Heartbeat by Liz King is the first book in the Shameful Regret series. I really enjoyed this angsty and steamy read. Lynae suffered a terrible event as a child that has left her terrified and skittish when it comes to men. After a long eight years of being lonely and barely living, she meets Connor, a play-boy rocker. Lynae wants to let Conner in and face her fears and Conner is bound and determined to bring Lynae’s walls crashing down.
I enjoyed all the characters in this group. All the band members and their camaraderie and goofing around really made me laugh. I adored Sly and his beautiful relationship with Lynae. But Conner takes the cake. He is just the right kind of book boyfriend. All sexy bad-boy rocker with secrets he refuses to share, yet he wants ALL of Lynae and her secrets and will settle for nothing less.
“Just like fucking candy,”
I found his patience and kindness with Lynae in direct contrast to his volatile personality and bad temper. I love a bad boy that wants to be better for his girl and Conner has that aspect in spades. Conner and Lynae’s love story is a turbulent one; Conner withholding his secrets and Lynae with her tragic past. This book had it all. Fist fights, angst, a rockin band, secrets revealed, and a heaping big surprise at the end. I do not know whether to kiss Liz or strangle her for that cliffy, but I cannot wait for Make My Heart Beat to find out what happens next. I have so many questions that need answered right away!
