Synopsis

Most would view Dylan’s life as a living Hell, but she discovered what Hell really was.

Twenty year old, Dylan was minding her own business when twenty-six year old Ethan sat down at her table. All she wanted was peace from her past. He offered her the protection and calm she had never known. That was until she learned how much of that past he was a part of.

If life had taught Dylan Summers anything it was that not everyone gets a happily ever after.

Recommended for ages 17+ due to language and sexual situations.

Review

This book follows Dylan as she tries to live her life after a horrible childhood and a shocking and life altering incident. Dylan is a strong girl, whether she believes it or not. She has moved on to the best of her abilities and all is alright for her until Ethan enters her world.

Ethan makes Dylan feel things she didn’t think that she would ever feel again, she feels safe, protected, cherished and loved. But is all it seems? There is something that happens on a date with Dylan that causes him to flee and cut off all contact with Dylan. This makes her feel almost broken, she can’t remember the last time she had a day without thinking about Ethan.

Ethan comes back a year later, and waltzes into Dylan’s life again as though he never left. He doesn’t want to give answers as to where he has been, what he’s been doing or even why he is back now. Ethan says all the right things, he charms his way back into Dylan’s life. But the things he does and the way he acts causes her hurt. And she isn’t sure if she wants that. Ethan wants her, and is willing to do whatever it takes to make her see that. “Im not leaving. I know I handled it all wrong last year, but you’re not the only one that missed us. I feel it too. The pull. The undeniable force drawing us together. I felt it last year, and every day since.”

Things seem to be going well for Dylan and Ethan, we get the I love you and the happy times. They share their secrets and their pasts. Dylan tells Ethan about what happened to her but we find out that Ethan isn’t exactly who he says he is. He plays a part in her past, and it seems like it will be too much to move past. Dylan and Ethan stay together because she feels as though he has told her all about himself and all that he has done.

After learning another lie, Dylan decides enough is enough. She can’t live a life that has lies in it, she’s had enough. The ending for me was hard to read, you feel the pain that both Dylan and Ethan go through, and you feel the love there. But even reading it I wasn’t sure that what had happened between them and the lies that I would have stayed. Ethan and Dylan love each other and there is no denying that but it isn’t enough. I really want more of Dylan and Ethan as I feel their story has ended yet. “I was only a reminder of her past; a sinking anchor, but damn, I would always love her. My heart was ripped from my chest and I was left with nothing but a nagging empty hole.”

Well done JW Phillips on a fantastic read. I look forward to reading more of your books.
