Synopsis

Homeless. Hungry. Desperate.

Doe has no memories of who she is or where she comes from.

A notorious career criminal just released from prison, King is someone you don’t want to cross unless you’re prepared to pay him back in blood, sweat, pu$$y or a combination of all three.

King’s future hangs in the balance. Doe’s is written in her past. When they come crashing together, they will have to learn that sometimes in order to hold on, you have to first let go.

Warning: This book contains graphic violence, consensual and nonconsensual sex, drug use, abuse, and other taboo subjects and adult subject matter. Although originally slated to be a standalone, KING is now a two part series.

Review

Fucking hell. That is the only way I can start off this review! Seriously. It’s because of this book that there needs to be a higher rating than 5! 5 just does not do this justice at all. I’ve seen some early reviews or just people praising this book and thought ‘hmm. this should be a good one.’ A good one? understatement of the bloody year. Now, how on earth do I review this??

“I’d been dealt all I could handle, and I was more than fucking over it.
Over being afraid. Over being hungry. Over redheaded hookers. Over being shot at.
Over this sorry excuse for a life.”
Dangerous. Dark. Delicious.
Yeah I’m pretty sure that is the only way to describe this book.  To describe the characters. To describe every part of this story. King is a criminal he does things his way with his only friends, Preppy and even Bear by his side, and he does not apologize for any of it. Sent away to prison will change a person but when he gets out he has one goal and one goal only. And he will get what he wants. No. Matter. What. He just wasn’t expecting HER.

“Last night, I thought you were a scared little girl, unable to handle what I want, what I can do, what I need. But that doesn’t matter anymore. Because now you’re my property, and I can do what the fuck I want with what’s mine.”
Doe. As in Jane Doe. With no memory of who she is or was. No one looking for her and an empty stomach and on the streets, Doe needed to do something to try and get a hold on her life. So the only friend she has brings her to a home coming party for King, where they both will try and find someone to take them in for a while. Reckless and selfish choices leave Doe in quite the predicament. Handcuffed to King’s bed. Possibly fighting for her life. And that’s exactly what she is, a fighter.

“I don’t give a fuck who you are, asshole.” I seethed. “And you’re not as smart as you seem to think you are. Tell me something, who exactly was it who appointed you judge of all people?”

A little about the other characters, well as much as I can without giving much away. There’s a couple of interesting side characters but none compared to Bear and Preppy.  Their characters were paramount to this story. I think we get more of Preppy than Bear but it’s understandably why that is, you’ll understand too when you read the book. Bear seems real laid back and nice, well nice in comparison to the others ha! but he also gives off a vibe that he takes no shit, so I’ll be looking forward to more of him for sure. Preppy! ahhh I have literally loved him since we meet the very first time. What is not to love about him. He is hilarious and has such a charm to him. There is also such a depth to him that he obviously hides up with the humor but there is just so much more to him, everything comes to life with him around and he has this energy about him, it’s so palpable. He couldn’t do any wrong in my eyes, I love him so hard and I’m not really sure what that says about me because he is a sick, sick man ha! He says something that has you laughing so hard, falling in love with him but even when he went and said something as sick as he did I still loved him, probably more to be honest.

“Don’t try and run away. Cause it doesn’t matter that you’re my friend. I’ll slit your fucking throat and leave you to rot somewhere no one would ever find you, mmmmkay?”

yeah. I still love him. He just has a way about him.
How can a book that destroys you, rips, shreds and tears every single emotion from you be the best book you ever read? T.M Frazier, that’s how. I cannot believe this is my first book of hers, but hell, what a book to start with! This was one helluva ride for sure. I’ve seen people talk about waiting for this for a while but honestly I can’t see a single person complain because… just wow. This is exactly the kind of book that will swallow you whole. After I finishing it I am physically aching, like my heart is actually aching, what an amazing book it was and it wasn’t just the ending, it was merely the fact I am jealous of everyone who is going to get to read it, and get lost in it for the first time. T.M sure brings you on a journey, the first few chapters my emotions were being pulled at and I couldn’t put it down. I read until half four in the morning, it was only when I got to that 80% mark I tried to sleep, I wanted to savor it. There are twists and turns you do not and will not expect even up to that very, very last moment, and honestly I am terrified to see how it’s going to go. This book is heartbreaking at times, it sure as hell is emotional but the funny, heart warming and sexy as sin parts, all together is amazing. I can’t see how this book will disappoint anyone and I’m more of a fluffy romance, everything should be happy, kind of reader and this was not fluffy romance! All I could think about when I was trying to sleep was this book, all I could think about when I woke up the next morning was this book. It has consumed me. Earlier this year I thought I found THE book. A book no other book would beat for me. I don’t usually pick a favourite but I can tell you now, a book will never even come close to this one. I’m going to be anxiously, excitedly, on pins and needles waiting for the conclusion to King and Doe’s conclusion to their epic story.
