Synopsis

One girl’s heart gets rocked to the core in the first novel in this sexy New Adult series.

Twenty-one-year-old front girl Emmylou knows that getting her band noticed in the ‘90s indie rock scene will be no easy task. She definitely knows better than to break the number one rule of the band: Don’t sleep with your bandmates! But after she ends up having the best sex of her life with her guitarist, Travis, she finds following that rule is a lot harder than it sounds.

When the band gets the gig of their dreams, making it big seems just within reach. But Emmy’s inability to keep her hands off Travis threatens everything they’ve worked for. Can Emmy find a way to break the rules and not blow the chance of a lifetime?

Review

‘Why do I keep thinking like this when I know it’s fucking everything up? Stupid sex hormones, that’s why.’

Going into Loud Is How I Love You by Mercy Brown blind left me with zero expectations from the book. So when I got a coming of age story with a young sacred heroine and a hero who was confident and knew what he wanted while still being patient and loving I was pleasantly surprised. The book takes place in 1995 and reads like the heroine is looking back on the time from the present. So in addition to reading the events as they unfold you also get bits and pieces of how she sees things now with hindsight being 20/20.

‘And it wasn’t everything I ever fantasized about with him. It wasn’t my dream come true. It was so much more than that. ‘

Emmy and Travis are in an up and coming band together and when things go beyond friendship one night everything changes. The band is the most important thing in Emmy’s life and nothing scares her more than her feelings for Travis getting in the way of them becoming all they can. Constantly pushing him away and yet still often landing back in his bed their story has a ton of push and pull. Travis is fully confident in what he feels for Emmy and is patient with her freak outs but patience can only go so far.

‘I don’t understand it yet, but this is exactly what love feel like.’

I won’t say this was a fast and easy read because for me it wasn’t. Their story was more of a slow burn building from the start and you don’t even realized you are hooked into reading it till you can’t out it down. Loud Is How I Love you is both a debut book and the first in a series and Mercy did a great job of introducing characters I am excited to know more about in a setting that makes us all want to be young, free and living the rock and roll life!
