Middle of Knight by Jewel E. Ann Review

5 Smooches!

Synopsis
The living seek forgiveness. The dead seek revenge.
A first love.
A last breath.
A haunting past.
Armed with a sinful past and an equally sinful body, Jackson Knight absolves his vow of celibacy to pursue Sergeant Monaghan’s unsuspecting—older—housekeeper.
Ryn Middleton, on the cusp of turning forty with a snarky daughter, a killer dog, and an abusive ex-husband, finds Jackson’s advances humorous and unbelievable. After intense negotiations including Vera Wang, Ed Sheeran, and sex four times a day, Ryn accepts Jackson’s marriage proposal on their first date.
What could possibly go wrong?
While struggling to lay claim to the woman of the dreams he never had, Jackson is forced to deal with a grief-stricken Jillian trying to hold on to her past without letting go of her future—the doctor who took her heart and the Sergeant who gave her a new one.
Beyond the hope for light, lies the middle of darkness, the illusion of truth, and a haunting past.
Review
OK, guys! I laughed, I cried, I literally cussed at my kindle. This book made me run through the gamut of all of my emotions and I felt so emotionally drained and unable to read anything else for a couple of days, aka a book hangover and it is all Jewel E. Ann’s fault. Days later, I am still damn emotional about it. Ahhhhh. I cannot even look at these quotes I highlight without getting a bit upset!
“I’m not invincible.”
“You are to me.”
So, basically Middle of Knight picks up right where End of Day leaves off and I have to tell you that I was mightily relieved by this. I was worried we were going over to Jackson’s book without figuring out what was going to happen with Sarge and Jillian and I just could not have that happen. Jewel managed to mix and mingle these two stories so beautifully. You get to really meet Jackson’s new love interest, Ryn, an almost forty mom who also happens to be his house keeper. You get to enjoy them falling in love very comically because, honestly Ryn and Jackson are a hot mess of epic proportions.
“I’m going to run to the restroom while you see if your panties have cooled down. Okay, hot pants?”
And thank God for Ryn and Jackson because I do not know what I would have done without their comedic relief. It is just that Jillian’s story is just so incredibly hard. Gut wrenching, even. Her and Sarge put my emotions though the blender. Their love, hate, love again, sexy time, and then how it all ended. It was almost just too much. SO. MANY. FEELS.
“It’s time,”
God, so incredibly much happens this book and Jewel did such a crazy good job of balancing the drama and angst with a good dose of comedy. This one is written brilliantly. The highs, the lows, the loss of someone and the albeit short reunion with someone I have been dying to meet in the present! Full of surprises, this one, guys!
“William Arthur Ward. ‘God gave you a gift of 84,600 seconds today. Have you used one of them to say thank you?”
