REVIEW

Reid Banner has never had it easy, in fact he’s had a down right horrible start to life. But when he meets Betts and her family he feels as though he can get things back on track. Things don’t stay this way for long though, and when tragedy strikes and Betts is taken away Reid spirals back in his dark path. But maybe Bea, Betts cousin, can drag him out? Maybe there was a reason Bett’s made Bea promise to look out for Reid? Has there been something there all along?

“I will promise you, Reid Banner, that life is out there waiting for you, and it’s going to be so much better than you could ever believe. Take risks, learn from your mistakes but never regret them.”

This was one of those romances where you know the main characters are not in for an easy ride. Their story is going to be hard fought and you will be with them every step of the way, no matter how heartbreaking or unfair it may be, because in the end you hope that they will overcome.

“And what’s that, Reid? What do you see?” I want to tell her that I see a woman who is being let down when she only deserves to be lifted. That when I was falling so hard it was her that caught me.”

Reid was a beautifully broken character. Having gone through plenty of heartache and rough times, he is. Is struggling to see much light in the world or to move beyond the grief. And yet he still manages to remain a character you instantly fall in love with. He tries so hard not to let his family and friends know how much he is struggling so he can protect them and still manages to make those he cares about smile. I loved his strength and caring nature and the fact he called Bea ‘pickles’…so cute. It is literally one my favourite nicknames given to a character now.

“They said wait until I’m ready. S***, I have no idea when that will be, if ever.”

Bea is also struggling in her life. Picking men who she knows deep down are all wrong for her and wearing a mask to keep others at length. You can tell right for the beginning there’s something more when it comes to her feelings for Reid but she is keeping that close to her heart. Again though Bea walks around with her head high, being a kind and caring person to those she cares about, as well as being feisty and strong and taking no s*** from Reid no matter how many times he pushes her buttons!

“I’m the biggest mistake she ever made, and there’s not a chance I’m going to let her make another one.”

This story was a huge rollercoaster of emotions from me and got me hook, line and sinker right from the beginning! I laughed at the witty comments thrown back and forth between Reid and Banner, and all the other secondary characters, who all let their individual personalities shine through. I was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen; the mysterious sister who suddenly comes back into Reid’s life and trying to figure out if something happened between Bea and Reid. Basically a great story, with a really interesting plot line and characters who had real depth to them who I instantly felt a connection with!

“Betts asked me to promise her that I would be there for Reid. I knew when she asked me that I shouldn’t be that person. Time is supposed to heal, but all it has done is place him in my path over and over again. I’ve fought to remain invisible to him.”
