REVIEW:

I absolutely love getting lost in a series of romances set in small towns. Something about those quaint little towns where everybody knows everybody, and the sweet romances that blossom in them just makes me happy, especially when that series centers around a big, in-your-business, close-knit family. Lacey Black is my go-to author when I want to escape to a small town and fall in love. Black was born to write these types of romances, and her unique way of telling these stories is endearing and authentic, and I can’t get enough of them.

My Kinda Forever is the sixth book in the Summer Sisters series. This series is set in the beach town of Jupiter Bay and is based on the six Summer sisters as they find their happily-ever-afters. Earlier in the series, Meghan lost her fiancé, Josh, in a tragic car accident, and the series has been building to this book. It was a devastating blow to the once vibrant and blissfully happy Meghan, who, in the wake of that loss, became consumed by her grief. She put on a good show for her family, trying to move on by busying herself with activities, commitments and projects, all of which she used to put off the painful process of healing from this loss and letting go of Josh. Lacey took readers right into Meghan’s pain with her, and this was unquestionably the most heart-breaking story she has written to date. I simply ached for Meghan, and I felt the depth of the pain that she lived with. Black’s portrayal of her grief was so gripping and emotional, I had tears streaming down my face for a good portion of the book.

Meghan’s boss and good friend, Nick, sees through the façade to Meghan’s pain, and he wants nothing but to bring some genuine happiness back into her life. He’s there for her as she begins the difficult process of healing, and along the way, this thoughtful, kind, patient—and sexy—man falls hard for Meghan. He’s got his own baggage, too, though, having been badly burned in a previous relationship. But the promise of Meghan is enough for him to open his heart, and the gentle way he handled Meghan was beautiful. I was rooting so hard for this couple. I was so affected by Meghan’s story, and I wanted her to allow herself to feel Nick’s love so badly. Black did an amazing job moving Meghan through the stages of grief and dealing with her emotions. She absolutely put me through the wringer here, but she tempered that heavy emotion with some very welcome levity courtesy of Meghan’s wildly inappropriate, over-sexed grandparents.

My Kinda Forever was a story I’d been anticipating for a while now. With each release in the series, my expectations grew, and Lacey did not let me down. She told an engrossing, poignant love story about loss and healing and starting over here, and she brought all the feels as she did it, giving me a memorable story that will stay with me for a long time to come. I’ve read all of Lacey’s work, and hands down, this is her finest work to date, and that’s really saying something because all of it has been wonderful. But what did here in this book by executing this difficult-to-tell story so fantastically, resulted in a truly rich experience and a breathtakingly beautiful love story for her readers. Five smooches from me for My Kinda Forever by Lacey Black.
