Review

I have been putting off writing the review for this book for a couple of weeks now.  It seems silly, really, because I have a million things to say about it, but I find myself worried that I won’t be able to adequately convey how much I adored November 9.  How it took me back to Colleen’s early days of Slammed and Hopeless; two of my most favorite books ever.  How I lived and breathed this book until the very last page.  How this is book is EVERYTHING!

‘A body is simply a package for the true gifts inside.  And you are full of gifts.  Selflessness, kindness, compassion.’

It’s simple, really.  Colleen’s words, I mean.  Her writing is clean, simple and easy to read.  But what really makes this book so incredibly special is the story.  Colleen manages to take a book that we think we have all read before, maybe many times over and put a completely different spin on it.  She makes it shiny and brand new and unputdownable.

“I hope the entire state of New York laughs at you!”

I admit that I have probably read books that had a more sad premise than November 9 but somehow Colleen managed to slowly draw every emotion out of me.  I often found myself laughing at Ben and Fallon’s conversations early on.  Then the angst hit and it was so hard.  It is the gut wrenching kind of pain and oh the tears; so many fell for these two sweet people.

“Why didn’t you tell me that the foundation you taught me to stand on is made from quicksand?”

You have read the synopsis above so you know what the book is about!  But you will find yourself constantly surprised at the little twist and turns through out;  Ben and Fallon’s hilarious banter,  the changing of these two young people as they grow and discover more about themselves, old ones gone and new born.  It is as heartwarming as it is devastating and it took me on one hell of an emotional roller coaster.

There are just too many things to list that I loved about this book but one particular thing that really stood out to me as avid reader and book blogger are the references to romance novels and book boyfriends.  I just loved that so  much.  Every remark made in reference to romance novels just made me smile.

“Do fictional boyfriends cry as much as I do?”

“Only the really great ones.”

So go ahead and pick this one up now and I dare you not to fall in love with the ultimate book boyfriend Ben Kessler.  I challenge you to not read this in one sitting.  November 9 will have you wishing you could unread it so that you could read it all over again!   This book rocked my world. I am wrecked in the best possible way. I want to give this book every star in the sky.
