Synopsis

Nate:

It’s nearly impossible to be surrounded by love but not understand it. My parents, my sister, and just about everyone around us has no trouble accepting that love. To give your trust to someone else and believe they would die before hurting you. I’ve witnessed it—I’ve seen the power of it—but I’ve also seen the pain. Because for me, I’ve only loved someone I could never have, and my biggest fear is that by giving her my love, all I would do is ruin her. I should have tried harder, but I’m not sure I can because I only feel complete when I’m with her.

Emberlyn:

The only time I feel like I belong is when he’s near. His infectious smile warms me straight to my bones. Any insecurities I have vanish with just a wink from him. A sliver of his attention makes me feel invincible. But all it took was one drunken night of truths for me to lose everything I had begun to crave. Now, I’m not sure how to move on because I only feel complete when I’m with him.

He said I was too young. I said he was perfect. He said our families wouldn’t understand. I said we could weather any storm. He said he would ruin me. And he was right.

Review

“You were fucking born to be mine, little firecracker, and mine you will fucking be.”

Nate Reid was everything I imagined and nothing I imagined all at once. When I’m With You is the third book in the Hope Town series by Harper Sloan featuring the kids from her Corps Security series. Both Nate and Emberlyn are children from the original series and despite their large age gap have been attracted to each other since they were younger. But when Nate rejects a young Emberlyn when she is 18 their close friendship is irreparably damaged and both must now long for the other from afar. But years have passed and mistakes made and now is the time for Nate to finally claim what is his.

“You’re trying to distract me with your talented fingers and huge penis, aren’t you?”

Overall, I was pleased with the development of the story and the journey that Nate and Emberlyn went through. Nate definitely takes after his dad is  all kinds of claim her as his own protective alpha. I do wish there was more resistance from Maddox and even some confrontation between Maddox and Axel because I think that would have had the potential to be both super dramatic and super angsty. But even without that the plot was fast passed and gripping. I was sucked in at the very beginning. If you have been following the series I definitely think this is one of the best yet in the Hopetown series and I am excited to see where Harper takes us with the rest of the Corps kids.

“God, Ember. I mean it, baby. Not one more day can I spend without you.”

While for me personally I cannot say that I love with this series with the same all consuming passion as I did with the Corps Security series, I can say that I was unable to put this book down and I was completely surprised by some of the twists and turns she brought to the table this time. If I had to sun up When I’m With You I would totally say it is Magic Mike with light touches of BDSM and really who isn’t into imagining sexy man bunned Nate Reid stripping for us all. Plus Harper always gives us good alpha! 😉

Reese King: Olympic medalist, underwear model, Greek god.

His body is chiseled from rock, sculpted by the weight room, and refined by water.

On a daily basis his skin is completely bare for everyone to see, tan and defined, only covered up by a minuscule piece of spandex. There is no denying his sex appeal.

I hate to admit it, but I’m head over heels infatuated with him.

There is one HUGE problem though. His achingly gorgeous abs, inked up arm, and cocky swagger belong to my boss, the high-profile, reality star bitch from hell and certified heinous human being, Bellini Chambers.

What I think is going to be an easy job assisting a glorified wench turns into a cluster f*ck of epic proportions.

She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Synopsis

Recipe For:
A Roll In The Hay Hot Crossed Buns Love

Ingredients:

1 Chef (equal parts sexy and carefree)
1 Pianist (equal parts uptight and endearing)
1/8 inch of drywall between their apartments
2 opinions on everything

Combine all ingredients, mix vigorously, and be prepared for an explosion of heat.

Pianist Ella Thomas is training for the competition of her life. Finally in an apartment of her own, she can practice from dawn till dusk.
But she didn’t bet on the sexy and frustrating neighbor keeping her up all night – even if he does cook like a maestro and kiss like it’s his job.

Jake Matson is living his dream as Head Chef at one of the most popular restaurants in San Francisco. He’s easy going, flirtatious and not looking for love. He didn’t expect to be completely distracted by the girl next door, whose buttoned-up appearance hides the seductive firecracker underneath.

What happens when opposites attract? As their tension fires up, can they create a new kind of music together or will everything boil over?

REVIEW

Ella and Jake are both driven, both passionate and both dedicated to succeeding. The only difference is for one its all about classical piano and for the other it’s about food. For Ella, Jake is a distraction she says she doesn’t want but maybe he is what she needs and for Jake Ella is the beautiful girl he had no idea her happiness would end up meaning so much. Music, food, drama, laughter and love collide to create a brilliant contemporary romance.

“Have I ever told you about my fantasy about f***ing you on top of a piano?” I arched an eyebrow at him. “Who do you think you are, Christian Gray? What’s next? The red room of pain?”

Ella was a beautiful person inside and out. She was so dedicated to her music despite outside forces telling her it wasn’t the way to go and even though she worried every day she might not reach her dream she never truly gave up; which just proved her strength and resilience.

“She was a mess of contradictions I was more than eager to explore. As long as I could explore the rest of her as well.’

Jake was a the talent, fun, and loveable chef. He was the light heartedness Ella desperately needed in her life to show her you can have fun, laughter and love in your life as well as a passion. He was such a swoon worth hero and proved to Ella just how worthy, beautiful and sexy she was by how he treated her.

“Those big, big eyes had caught mine and there had been a bit of a jolt. Enough that it took half a block for me to realize my heart was racing.”

This was one of those romances where you go away feeling completely satisfied, having got everything you wanted from the book. It was full of love, it was full of laughter and it had enough drama to drag you in and question what was next without it being too heavy. The side characters added another dimension on to the story and allowed you to like more than just the main characters.

“Then I thought about what Mark had said. About gaining weight. About being too emotional. About all the ways I was wrong. For once I just wanted to be right.”

If you want a read that will let you escape and let you read about two people who go from annoying each other, to becoming friends, to helping each other and finally falling for each other; this is your perfect read!

REVIEW

I had a lot of issues with this book, and they all boil down to the same problem: the lack of plot and character development. For me, this was such a critical issue that I was left with more questions when I finished the book than I had understanding of what I had just finished reading. It’s frustrating because I’m not completely certain what the whole story was with regards to some of the key plot arcs, and for that reason, I don’t feel comfortable enough to summarize the story with quotes like I normally do at the start of a review.

A major problem for me was that I never really developed any connection to or empathy for the heroine, Olivia, and this is the direct result of significant character development issues. I never really “got” her, I never fully understood what exactly she was running from, what happened during the catalytic event that had her moving “in the middle of the night” to escape her ex-boyfriend of five years, Braden. What exactly was she escaping? Aside from a few ambiguous statements about her treatment and neglect during that relationship, which began while she was still in high school and is the one of the two underlying sources of all of her issues, the readers don’t get more than a brief, cursory glimpse into it. We don’t get a clear and decisive explanation of exactly what happened during this traumatic incident and there was no real, in-depth delving into that relationship to give the reader a better understanding of the supposed five years of abuse and neglect that she repeatedly said she experienced at that boy’s hands. Whatever it was, though, it was enough to set her running from him, moving to another city (only two hours away, but whatever), and it left her with panic attacks and nightmares.

A lot of concern was repeatedly expressed about how Braden could have tracked her down in a city the size of New Orleans on the night of her birthday to the exact club where they were celebrating. It was eluded to more than once that they were “missing something,” especially when it came to his ability to find her on that particular night, and it left the reader, or at least this reader, thinking that there may have been a potential tip off from someone close to Olivia. Instead a ridiculously implausible, impossible scenario was offered offhandedly near the end of the story as to how he found her, and I vocally reacted, startling my husband as I yelled out “Oh come on!” when it was so casually thrown out there as an explanation. This was something that bothered Kyle for most of the book, it lead me to believe that it would be some sort of twist or betrayal, and I was expecting a big reveal, like one of her friends was feeding information about her to Braden. Instead it was a wasted opportunity, and considering that this was one of the few plot threads that actually had a decisive conclusion, albeit a flimsy one, I was left disappointed.

Then there was the whole arc concerning Olivia’s brother, Tyler, and the intimation that he had some role in all of this, whatever “this” was. He was apparently Braden’s best friend, and there were some veiled references about him potentially being involved in Braden’s business. Inexplicably, he started blowing her off on the few occasions she was actually able to reach him, and then he just stopped responding to her calls and emails at all, even going a step further by changing his email address and phone number. Why? Olivia and Kyle even made this big, dramatic trip to LA to confront him. What we got out of Tyler was another rickety reason for all this massive drama as he’s apparently just “keeping it on the DL” in LA. Huh? His sister was attacked by her abusive, stalking ex and hospitalized as a result, and he can’t return a single phone call? It’s stated that he “turned” on Braden, and that detail is furthered by the information that he’s moved nine times within Los Angeles in the short time that he’s been out there. Instead of backing up that detail by making him difficult to not only reach but to actually locate, the readers were expected to just believe that he’s in hiding while he still goes to work everyday at a PR firm that Olivia used good old Google to quickly locate. Why bother hiding at all? She shows up to his office, unannounced, and after some awkward posturing, her big confrontation was instead an enormous flop for the readers as the meat of their conversation happened out of sight in the hotel’s bar, and the readers weren’t privy to it, given instead a scene of Kyle waiting and worrying while watching TV in the hotel room. Seriously?

Olivia has stated that she never had anyone who “took care” of her before, and it was important to her that she stand on her own. I can appreciate this young woman’s desire to stand on her own two feet. But her reactions each time poor Kyle or his incredibly generous parents did something kind and thoughtful for her were so over the top that they were downright rude and bordered on obnoxious, and as a result of these confusing reactions, she came off as immature, unappreciative, ungrateful and wholly ungracious. Why would a simple gift spark such a reaction? Why would a dinner out – a date with her boyfriend for crying out loud – garner such a strong reaction? I may have a general idea, but I definitely didn’t get the full motivation behind such insulting reactions to normal boyfriend behavior, and instead of building my sympathy towards this character, it stoked a strong dislike of her. Her constant panicking, her standoffish and just plain rude behavior, and all this seemingly unnecessary, self-created drama annoyed the heck out of me. As a result, all of these issues, concerns and lingering questions prevented me from embracing this character, from even liking her, and I just could not connect with her or her story.

I really did like the hero, Kyle, though, but his character wasn’t fully developed either. He was injured in what was apparently a dirty and deliberate late hit during a college baseball game that effectively ended the promising professional baseball career that lay ahead for him. But it was implied that there was more to it than just an unsportsmanlike late hit and that something awful happened after the hit, but we never learned exactly what that was. The implication was that there was some sort of history between Kyle and the opposing player responsible for his injury and that jealousy is a possible reason behind it. But, the hit was never fully detailed beyond impact, that supposed history between the two of them wasn’t elaborated upon, and I was left feeling like I was missing a key piece of Kyle’s story, which was very frustrating for me as Kyle and his story was one of the main reasons I kept reading this story.

I could go on. There were just too many holes in the plot and too many missing pieces of these characters’ histories that made it too difficult for me to connect with this story. I was left frustrated and confused when I finished. The saving grace for me, and why I’m comfortable with a 3 smooch rating, is that the author’s writing style is good, and it’s obvious that she has talent. Had these plot points and characters been fully fleshed out, I’d have enjoyed this story. Even lacking in details as it was, I still kept turning the pages, hoping for clarification, and that in itself is an indication of interest in the story and characters on my part. The author and this series both have a lot of potential. I think with some more experience, the right support to nurture her talent, and perhaps a more seasoned group of beta readers asking these probing questions during the writing process as well as an editor who demands the same, and she’ll put out some really great books in the future. I can see the promise in Sophie Lira’s writing abilities and her natural talent. Ultimately, though, Safe With You just didn’t come together cohesively for me, and it gets 3 smooches.

But the more time we spend together, the more confused I feel.
I’m trying to open myself to love.

Yet I’m quickly realizing that the only man I want is Tahoe Roth.
The one man who will surely break my heart.

A sexy new Manwhore series standalone contemporary romance from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans.

Review

MOVE THE HECK OVER MALCOLM SAINT, because Tahoe Roth is in house and he completely stole my heart forever and ever!  Do not get me wrong, I loved Manwhore and I never thought that I would love Tahoe so immensely but that man.  God, I can’t even.  I think this book really spoke to me because it is a true friends to lovers romance and you get to witness Regina and Tahoe establish their friendship from the very beginning.

“…two broken people, a little angry at whatever hurt them, having nothing to vent and no one to punch, not really.”

You are there for every little act of friendship, every little too intense stare, every little caress or touch that flames the intense friendship that Tahoe and Regina have.  These two are fast best friends and there for each other through everything.  I have to tell you that I adore a book with sexual tension and this one was just like, WHOA.   I awarded Malcolm Saint with the best first kiss Ive ever read in Manwhore but I think that Tahoe and Regina get the best sexual tension award for me, by far.  It just built and built and built and built…you know what I mean.  It was crazy and I was almost panting with just wanting to Tahoe to give her just one tiny kiss.  Goodness!

“I like the way they smell, and I like the way they feel between my fingers.”

Gah, guys!  Tahoe is absolutely a fabulously delicious filthy talker and Regina wasn’t the only worked up over this sweet, beautifully sad man.  His words.  I loved them all!

“God, this mouth belongs to me, this mouth was made for me.”

These two broken people support each other in the most special of ways and man I shed a few tears for them.  Sometimes it takes a while to establish an unbreakable bond of friendship and love enough to move the next step and Regina and Tahoe are perfect examples of that.  And they had me rooting for them so hard.  I just loved them both so much and was so invested in their story!

“why would any woman want to be anything else when they are you, huh?”

This is a gorgeous friends to lovers romance and it blew me away.  Probably my very favorite from Katy Evans so far.  Now, I am positively salivating for Callan’s book!

— ABOUT THE AUTHOR: ANNE JOLIN

Hey y’all,

I was born and raised in Ladner, a small farm town just outside Vancouver, Canada. I grew up riding horses, shooting guns, and driving in trucks.

I never expected to be an author. A massage therapist? Yes. Take over the family construction company? Yes. But an author? No. Writing was something that snuck up on me and rooted itself into my life. It was beautiful to discover that love, and I’m truly grateful to say I’ve found my passion.

Since I’ve always been a creative person, it feels amazing to harness all of that energy and use it to tell a story I love. I enjoy incorporating bits of my real life into the stories I write. What parts are true? Hah. I’ll never tell—what would be the fun in that?

If I could leave y’all with one thing, it’s that life’s far too short to not live it out loud. Drown in your passions, hold on tight to the things that inspire you, and chase your dreams relentlessly. I can promise you without a doubt that you won’t regret it. I know I don’t.

Mad love,

New York Times bestselling authors Angela Graham and S.E. Hall have teamed up again to bring you a full-length, steamy new romance.

Echo Kelly is loyal to her studies, family, and aerial artistry. She has no time for or interest in anything else, and is heartbroken when her oldest brother, Sebastian, gets accepted to a study-abroad program— exchanging places with cocky, not-at-all-shy foreign exchange student Kingston Hawthorne.

Kingston Hawthorne had the life every twenty-year-old guy dreams of— endless cash, easy women, and fast cars— until his father ripped it all away, shipping him off to the States and placing him temptingly close to the underage virgin who fascinates him in the most challenging of ways.

With Kingston’s bedroom just a connecting bathroom away from Echo’s, the chemistry between them is even more enticing than the notes he leaves for her on the shower door.

How long can you pretend you’re just friends?

Excerpt

I creep silently into the house and find a tinfoil-covered plate on the kitchen counter: the dinner my mom saved for me, even though I’m sure my father said something along the lines of, “If she wants to eat, she can sit down, on time, with the rest of us.”

I smile to myself at the small victory. My dad may think he rules the roost, but he doesn’t call the last shot when it comes to my mom taking care of her babies.

After I finish off the still-warm chicken and potatoes as quietly as possible, I tiptoe past my parents’ bedroom, paying special attention to each step I take—or, more specifically, avoiding the floorboards that creak.

My father’s stern voice pierces the darkness. “We’ll talk in the morning, young lady.”

Damn, he’s good. I literally wobbled left to right like a drunk person, nailing the silent boards, and he still heard me.

“Yes, sir,” I spit out before hurrying up the staircase to my bedroom.

My grandfather, smart man that he was, built this house after he had children. With the master suite on the bottom floor and the kids’ rooms upstairs, there was no getting past the parents. But somehow, Grandpa had forgotten to take into account that our family has studied the art of Aerialism for generations. So once you’re up in your room, getting out of it undetected isn’t much of a problem—a caveat I know for a fact my older brother Sebastian took advantage of often. Mostly because he used my balcony to do so nine times out of ten.

I head straight for a hot shower, not allowing my overworked muscles to stiffen. The entire time I stand under the spray, I stare through the glass at the closed door on the far side of the room. Sebastian’s bedroom is connected to mine by a Jack and Jill bathroom, but my brother isn’t on the other side anymore. Tonight, and every night for this school year, he’ll be in England, his room vacant. The thought is the final blow to my day.

Once I’ve dried off and tied my robe, I open his door slowly, with tears in my eyes. I’m not sure why—maybe to see the proof of his absence, naively hoping that will help settle my anxiety?

It’s dark inside, of course, but the thin drapes are parted and the moon is full and bright after tonight’s storm.

My breath hitches, my feet coming to a complete and sudden halt when I spot the large body lying in my brother’s bed. It’s almost comforting at first; I find myself wishing it was Sebastian, but I know it’s not. And I can only assume it’s Kingston. I have no clue why my parents didn’t just drop him at his dorm, or why I’m not turning around to go back to my own room. But now, as I stand so close, my curiosity is piqued.

From this angle and lighting, he could almost pass for Sebastian: dark-brown hair cut short, muscularly outlined back, sleeping on his side. But whereas Sebastian sleeps under the covers, our houseguest has the sheet and comforter shoved down past a tight, perfectly rounded ass that’s filling out his black boxer briefs in a way I find startlingly sinful. He also has his arms shoved under his pillow—another difference that makes it hard for me to pretend.

I creep a bit farther into the room, checking out his luggage—designer and monogrammed, all matching of course, and reeking of luxury and fine leather. Fancy, but mismatching horribly with the black (somewhat sexy) combat boots that—

Umpf,” I grunt despite my desperate efforts to remain quiet, reaching out for anything to brace myself on. But it’s no use. I fly forward, having tripped over the second, not-nearly-as-sexy-now boot.

“I was told you were the graceful one.”

His low, gravely taunt comes out of nowhere and startles me further, throwing me backward in the opposite direction, my balance completely lost. With my hands flailing, my only hope now is that the luggage provides a soft landing.

But I never meet it, or the floor. Instead, two strong hands rescue me, snaring my wrists and pulling me down on top of one seriously hard, hot—temperature-wise, I mean—body.

“I’d presume you to be Echo and say hello, but again, not the graceful girl I was expecting. So, you are…?” He looks up at me with a smug twitch to his lip and devastating twinkle in his gray—Are they really gray, or is that the lighting?—eyes.

“I…uh…” I stammer idiotically, dressed only in a robe that’s far too revealing for the position I find myself lying in: across the bare torso of perhaps the most gorgeous guy I’ve ever seen up close, in person. And we are very up close.

I attempt to push off him, but his hands slide down to my hips and grip tighter.

“Yes,” I gasp, before battling for a sense of authority in my next response. “I’m Echo. Sorry I woke you, I just wasn’t…expecting you to be in here.” His brows rise, practically screaming that he sees right through me. “Let me up! I tripped over your big, stupid boots, then you scared me.”

“My apologies, Echo.” A quiver plays down my spine at the way my name rolls off his lips in that decadent English accent of his. “Had I known you’d be visiting my room tonight, I’d have taken more care in setting my belongings out of your way.”

“I should’ve left when I realized you were in here, so we’re even. Can you let me up now?”

His grip remains firm as his smile deepens. “I must admit, I am rather enjoying this version of our introduction. Far better than a mere ‘How do you do?’ over dinner.” He’s sporting a full grin now, blindingly bright even in the dimly lit room.

All I can do is stare at him, words failing me. I half suspect I’m dreaming, but I can feel, long and stiff against my stomach, that this humiliation is, in fact, reality.

“I’m quite comfortable, so do feel free to stay as long as you like. And if you really want to give me a smashing welcome, don’t be afraid to wiggle around a bit.” His smirk grows impossibly wide as he thrusts his hips upward, pressing his erection firmer against me.

And just like that, my speechlessness evaporates.

“Are you insane?” I use both hands to shove hard against his chest, but I’m no match for his relentless clutch on my hips. “Let me go! You’re a guest in our home tonight—you can’t just manhandle me when the mood strikes!”

“Ah, grace period.” He nods. “Understood. So, tomorrow night, then?”

“Unbelievable!” I seethe, wriggling around in hopes of escape.

His fingers dig deeper, but the ravenous gleam in his eyes softens. “A joke, Echo. My apologies. Perhaps I took it too far.”

My anger soothes to a low simmer. He’s got a certain playful charm about him, and maybe this is just his very forward way of easing the awkwardness that I instigated in the first place by sneaking into the room in the middle of the night.

But just as I start to form a forgiving smile, he ruins all the excuses I’d just mentally compiled.

“Can I be frank with you?”

“Will you let me up?” I toss back.

“Of course.”

“Then let’s hear it.” I wait for him to say God only knows what—a heartfelt apology maybe?—but instead, his expression sharpens into one of pure lust.

“I’ve lied to you. The truth is…I’d much prefer it if you grinded down on me a bit, Love. Wiggling is for strangers, and we’re not strangers anymore, now are we?”

“Ugh,” I growl, propelling myself off him when his laughter loosens his hold. I stomp out of the room, his sounds of amusement lingering behind me.

And that’s how I met our foreign exchange student, Kingston Hawthorne.

Synopsis

Review

OMG!  JUST OMG!  I have read every Angela Graham and SE Hall book that they have written together and I just want to say that never, AND I MEAN NEVER, have they left me feeling like this.  HUGE CLIFFY!  HUGE!  That I did not see coming at all.  I would be mad as heck if I didn’t love this book so hard.  But I cannot be mad because this book was pure NA deliciousness!

So good that I didn’t highlight one gosh darn quote.  So good that I did not make one annotation.  I usually do that with all of my books that I read but nope, not this time.  I was in it.  Just call me Echo Kelly because I was doing acrobats on the tree near her house and mooning over a sexy British exchange student known as Kingston Hawthorne.  I was four wheeling and living out my teenage drama all over again and I enjoyed ever stinking minute of it.

One of my very favorite things about this book besides the fact that it has an NA/YA vibe was the sexual tension between the main two characters.  It was off the charts.  The flirting, the dirty talk, I loved it all but not much happens so I was left with a huge cliffy and wanting something big to happen.  So I kinda feel like kissing and murdering these two authors right now.  The only saving grace is that I do not have to wait long for part two which has a pre-order already up on Amazon for May!  Whew!  So, hopefully I will get my resolution soon so that I can forgive two of my favorite authors for keeping me waiting.
