Playing With Fire by Kate Meader Review

4.5 Smooches

Synopsis
As the only female firefighter at Engine Co. 6, Alexandra Dempsey gets it from all sides: the male coworkers who think she can’t do the job, the wives and girlfriends who see her as a threat to their firefighter men, and her overprotective foster brothers who want to shelter their baby sister at all costs. So when she single-handedly saves the life of Eli Cooper, Chicago’s devastatingly handsome mayor, she assumes the respect she’s longed for will finally come her way. But it seems Mr. Mayor has other ideas…
Eli Cooper’s mayoral ratings are plummeting, his chances at reelection dead in the water. When a sexy, curvaceous firefighter gives him the kiss of life, she does more than bring him back to the land of the living—she also breathes vitality into his campaign. Riding the wave of their feel-good story might prop up Eli’s flagging political fortunes, but the sizzling attraction between them can go nowhere; he’s her boss, and there are rules that must be obeyed. But you know what they say about rules: they’re made to be broken…
Review
“Kissing her was like falling into madness.”
Sexy firefighters, ex military men and enough wit and steam to keep me turning pages, Flirting With Fire is everything I look for in a fast and fun read. The Dempsey clan is a group of foster kids turned firefighters and each one of this cast of characters has an intriguing backstory and each one I read I fall more and more in love with this family.
“Anytime you want to sin with this sinner honey, you just let me know.”
Alexandra was snarky and straight forward. Tough on the outside but all girl where it matters she comes off as a tomboy and I was worried I wouldn’t find her appealing as a female lead but when it matters she is feminine and sweet. Alex’s desire to succeed as a female firefighter and Eli’s stance as mayor that women cannot make good firefighters quickly turns the heat these two feel into a passion to prove the other wrong. Constant bickering and opposing opinions keeps the story vibrant and moving quickly. But the moments that they put their differences aside and give into the passion they clearly feel for the other are explosive and hot as all!
“Eli Cooper might not have her vote this time around, but he had something far more valuable. Her heart. The wily, manipulative bastard.”
Kate Meader always delivers a supremely sexy and intriguing story. I was hooked with Eli’s domineering personality and Alex’s ability to put him in his place just sealed the deal. Contemporary Romance lovers should definitely give this standalone novel in the Hot In Chicago series a read!
