Synopsis

Angie is a survivor. Anything you could throw at her, she could overcome.

After her father left her like a pile of unwanted trash, she began fighting. Fighting to build a life. Fighting to keep her child. Fighting to matter.
She thought she had it all figured out.

Then Bowen Race Tannenbaum walks into her life, turning it into a flurry of confusion, hope, and then ultimately despair. He tore down, brick-by-brick, her carefully constructed world, leaving her heart in tatters and longing for more. Such as a happily ever after, something that wasn’t ever going to happen for her. Not when she couldn’t give him what he wanted. He’d break her, and she couldn’t be put back together a second time.

Bowe wasn’t always so jaded, but when you keep drawing a losing hand, it tends to affect a man. He didn’t mean to lash out so carelessly. But he was so over being told no. He was done being lied to. He through with being cheated on.

This time, his heart was getting what it wanted. If Angie wasn’t able to see what he was offering, what was right here in front of her, well then, he’d just have to damn well show her.

REVIEW

Put Out is the fifth and final installment in Lani Lynn Vale’s Kilgore Fire series. I have loved every single book in this entire series, but I think this one was my favorite. Writing about every day, real-life heroes is something Vale does exceptionally well. Mingling her outrageous sense of humor with a whole lot of heat, she never fails to turn out a special romance.

Bowe was such a great guy, the total package, and I’ve been anxiously waiting for his story. All he wanted was what his friends all had: a woman and the life they shared together. It’s just that he was looking in all the wrong places considering how he kept getting shot down. He doggedly pursued Angie, hoping for a chance or a sign, and her constant rejection and dismissals were wearing on him.

Angie is very distrustful of men, having learned at an early age from her father how easily women—even daughters—can be left behind. The way her father just walked away from her mother, sister and Angie was unspeakably horrible. Vale channeled real-life emotion into this part of the plot, and I felt the pain of a forgotten, left-behind daughter in Angie. Despite her trust issues, Angie can’t help the feelings she has for Bowe, but she sure as heck hides them. The truth is that she’s scared, and with good reason, too. Her psychotic ex taught her the remaining bad relationship lessons that her father missed. Lani always nails the writing of snarky, sassy heroines, and Angie is all of that.

There is a suspenseful side plot going on here, as well. It was exciting and interesting, and I slipped into devour mode as it began to unfold, consuming this story anxiously to see what would happen next. Her unique sense of humor is on full display in this story, and it’s something that I genuinely look forward to whenever I crack open one of her books.

Put Out was a fantastic ending to the Kilgore Fire series. Full of heat, heart and humor, Put Out by Lani Lynn Vale gets 5 smooches from me!
