The harder she fights to push me away, the more determined I become…

She was meant to be mine.

Julianna Keller is sexy, wild, and carefree with a spark for life that sets my soul on fire.
We’re opposites in every way.
For one night, I allowed myself to imagine what being with a woman like her could be like.
But life goes on.
I returned to my life in the Marines—fighting wars, eliminating threats, and completing missions only a few knew about.
All the time, never forgetting her.
Three years later, we’re back in the same city, thrown together at every turn.
She’s so much more than I remember—brilliant, sophisticated, and still unbelievably gorgeous.
I fight to stay away, hiding my feelings and knowing she deserves so much more.
Then I see her with another man and my world explodes.
Years of training taught me to never let my guard down, but I’m done holding back.

She says it’s too late, our time has passed.
I’m prepared to prove her wrong.
She’s the chaos to my control.
The calm to my storm.
The light to my dark.

The harder she fights to push me away, the more determined I become.
Julianna Keller has no idea how far I’ll go.

My name is Major Powers. And I’ve never failed a mission.

EXCERPT:

“I can’t believe this! Stop marking me like a dog pissing on his property.”

I raise my eyes to the mirror and find Jewls standing behind me with her hands on her hips and a scowl on her face. It’s a look I know well.

“At least, my dress covers my legs. But what am I supposed to do about this?” She jabs her finger at her collarbone where a light purplish circle mars the skin. “I can’t even wear a scarf.”

I go back to shaving my jawline, trying to keep my lips from curling. “Wear a turtleneck.”

“I can’t wear a turtleneck in April! It’s an outdoor party.”

“So, let’s skip the party.” I shrug indifferently.

Her eyes pop, and she beats her head lightly against the door. “Stay away from the bad boys, they say. Meet a nice guy, bonus if he’s handsome, they say… Fall in love with the safety, they say… Make a life together and live out your years, they say…”

I lean into the vanity, crossing my arms, interested in where she’s going with this.

“Did I listen? No! I fall in love with an overbearing badass who’s covered in tattoos, has no regard for personal boundaries—like leaving hickeys on my neck, and who’s anything but safe!”

My heart hammers in my chest. It’s the first time she’s even uttered the word love since the night of the party. I gave her time, not willing to push the issue, and willing to wait until she was ready.

I’m done waiting.

I make it to her in two strides, folding her into me where she’s forced to look up.

“Am I handsome?”

“No. You’re hot. Like head-turning, scorch-my-eyeballs, panty-melting H-O-T.”

“Your panties melting now?” I skim my hand over her hip, bunching her dress until my hand cups her ass over the silky material.

“No, I’m pissed at you.” Her answer comes out raspy.

“You fall in love with an overbearing badass who’s covered in tattoos?”

She realizes her words and the green sheen of her eyes goes translucent. “I-I-I didn’t mean… You know I did.”

“You scared to say it?”

She nods.

“I’ll wait, but I’m not scared. I love you, Julianna.”

Her eyes close, and she blows out a breath, nuzzling into my chest. “No more hickeys,” she pauses, “that are visible.”

There’s my wildcat.

About Ahren Sanders:

Ahren spent her formative years living in an active volcano. There her family made collectible lava art. She studied rock collecting at the Sorbonne in France. There she met the love of her life-her pet pig Sybil. She returned to the states and started writing. She is happily married to a guy who used to live under a bridge and she met while pole-dancing.

Now, meet the real me. I grew up in the south and consider myself a true “Southerner”. Most of the special locations mentioned in my books are reflections of my favorite places. Living on the Florida coast, my family spends a lot time at the beach which is where I usually can be found with a book in my hand.
