Synopsis

Sometimes love is right where you left it.

Sadie Hart has a plan: return to her small town of Hope Springs so she can regain her confidence—and bank account—before giving one more shot to her country music dream. The dream that means more to her than anything. The dream she chose over her high school sweetheart, the brooding and sinfully handsome Royce Dixon.

Royce has moved on from his memories of the beautiful Sadie. Now he’s focused solely on running Second Chance Ranch, where he rehabilitates troubled teens through ranch work. But when he needs a new employee and Sadie’s the only one to volunteer, he has no choice but to offer his old flame a job.

Whether riding a horse with the wind in her hair or mucking out the stalls, Sadie can still get Royce’s heart beating like no one else. But Nashville is her dream, and Royce can’t settle for second best.

Review

This book follows Sadie and Royce. Sadie is returning home with her tail between her legs after leaving to pursue a singing career 6 years ago that hasn’t planned out quite like she had hoped. While Royce never left as he helps on the family ranch. Royce is the boy left behind by Sadie so she could pursue her dreams.

Sadie needs a job and desperately and after exhausting all other places of business finds herself at the second chance ranch, that Royce’s family own. After Royce initially turning her down because he is still hurt over her leaving him and doesn’t want to let her get to close, he gives in when she connects with one of the children that comes to the ranch.

Sadie and Royce have a lot that they need to work through just to become friends again, so working together is hard, especially when they feelings that they use to share for each other haven’t left. We get to read about how they deal with seeing each other on a daily basis and in such close space. We get to read about the past pain that they both have and we get to see them finally accept what is there between them.

Working on a relationship between these two isn’t easy, they are trying to navigate what they want and what they feel. Royce isn’t sure that he can let himself get involved with Sadie again as she can’t promise that she will be around forever, after all coming home was only a stop gap for more money to fund her dreams. She can’t say that she will stay around forever and Royce won’t ever leave the family ranch.

Things seem to be going well for the couple, but a phone call from her agent and Royce’s inability to make himself vulnerable to Sadie again cause them problems before they have even really began again.

This book was a brilliant read about second chances, I loved the dynamic between Royce and Sadie and the secondary characters added different insights into each of the main characters. Well done Cindi Madsen on a brilliant read.
