And I try hard. Really, really… hard.

Review

I’ve been a fan of Marie Force’s since I began exclusively reading romance in the post-Fifty Shades days of 2012. She was one of the first authors I turned to in those days, and while I may not have read every single one of the many, many wonderful books she’s written, I have read an overwhelming majority of them. I’ve recommended them countless times, and I’ve never had a moment’s hesitation in doing so. When I think about great contemporary romance, Marie Force is one of the first authors that comes to my mind. There is something very comforting about getting lost in one of her books. She creates characters that readers can connect with because they are genuine, relatable and believable; she builds worlds the reader can vividly picture and want to return to time and time again; and her interesting plots center around a sweet and sexy love story against the backdrop of family, friends and a quirky small town.

Sex God is part friends-to-lovers, part second-chance romance set in a rural West Texas town. For me personally, that combination is irresistible, and it equates to contemporary romance magic. I love characters who have a long history, and that’s exactly what childhood best friends, Lauren and Garrett, have together. Their relationship was easy, comfortable and full of chemistry that they both were studiously ignoring while secretly longing to explore. It was blatantly obvious to everyone – except, of course, the hero and heroine – that they loved each other, were perfect for one another and that they were meant to be together. I read this book in eager anticipation of that moment when their worlds shift, realization dawns and then understanding sets in, and everything about this one, from the build-up to the instant it all becomes clear, was perfect. Their relationship had always been sweet and caring, but once they crossed the threshold to lovers and acknowledged that they were in love, the dynamic between them totally changed from something great to something incredible. I sighed, swooned and soared right along with this couple as they chased their happily-ever-after.

Sex God is the much anticipated follow up to Sex Machine, and from what I’ve read, I can honestly say that they’re both standalone stories as my experience with this book was not at all impeded by the fact that I haven’t read the first book – a situation, by the way, that I am immediately remedying. This book was everything I love about contemporary romance: a romantic and tender love story between a couple I really wanted to be together, a cast of supporting characters who added the dimension that turned this story into something truly special and enough sizzling heat to get my Kindle smoking in my hands. My romance-reading, happily-ever-after seeking heart was full and happy every step of the way as I devoured this fantastic story. Five smooches from me for Marie Force’s Sex God!
