Synopsis

A sugar baby in love. A doctor with a heartbreaking secret. And a love neither of them ever expected to find.

Lucy McPherson struggled all of her adult life to take care of her daughter and later, her mother. At the age of twenty-eight, she became a ‘companion’ to Bradley Blackwell, seeing him one weekend a month and being compensated handsomely enough to ease her worries.

Two years in, Lucy realizes she’s broken rule #1 and fallen in love.

Afraid of losing him, Lucy keeps her feelings private, only for Bradley to begin acting strangely and breaking the rules himself.

When she finds out the past that Bradley has kept hidden from her and the world, she begins questioning their whole relationship.

The revelations leave her wondering if she is truly the one with the most to lose…or if he is.

Review

“Sugar Baby Lies” is the sixth book that I’ve read by C.S. Janey / Violet Haze. This one, like all of the others, was great! It was filled with emotion, just the right amount of humor and some super steamy scenes. I couldn’t put it down.

Lucy has had a tough life. After getting pregnant at 17, she dropped out of high school so she could work and support her daughter. 13 years later she is still working in fast food restaurants trying to make ends meet while supporting both her daughter and mother. When she hears about “sugar babies”, it seems like a simple solution to her financial woes. Being a sugar baby is big money for the time she puts in. 72 hours every month and all her bills are paid. But after two years of “working” for Bradley she can no longer deny the feelings she’s developed for him.

Bradley is a highly successful doctor with a very busy schedule. Looking for companionship without the commitment of an actual relationship, he decides to try out a sugar baby. Things are working out great with Lucy and after two years there have been no problems. But he’s about to change everything and this change could bring forth all the secrets he’s kept hidden so well.

I loved both of these characters so much! Lucy is awesome! She’s spunky, confidant and not afraid to speak her mind. Bradley is the perfect mix of strength and vulnerability and the combination of these two together is amazing. There is no unnecessary angst in this book and the story flows really well with twists that I did not see coming. I enjoyed the fact that these were older characters, Lucy 30 and Bradley 45. The way they were written made them both feel very real to me. The story tied up nicely with a great epilogue. This is truly a standalone book that I would happily recommend to anyone looking for a steamy contemporary romance.
