Synopsis

I was warned about Tristan Cole.

“Stay away from him,” people said.
“He’s cruel.”
“He’s cold.”
“He’s damaged.”

It’s easy to judge a man because of his past. To look at Tristan and see a monster.

But I couldn’t do that. I had to accept the wreckage that lived inside of him because it also lived inside of me.

We were both empty.
We were both looking for something else. Something more.
We both wanted to put together the shattered pieces of our yesterdays.

Then perhaps we could finally remember how to breathe.

Review

Lordy have mercy!  Why did I wait so long to read this amazing author?!  The writing was phenomenal.  The story was captivating and original and it broke my heart and slowly put it back together.  God, I loved it so much!

“Every second.  Every minute.  Every hour.  Every day.”

I do not want to go into too much detail and ruin this amazing book full of twist and turns and devastation and hope but I will say that this story is incredibly unique and had me hooked from the very first pages.  These two people, Cole and Liz, lose so much and  are united in their loss and it is literally suffocating it is so sad.  SO. MANY. FEELS.  And so many many tears for these two.

‘My soul was in flames, and every inch of me felt the burn.  I shook my head more and more, cupped my hands over my mouth and howled into my sadness.’

These two characters use each other in the most sad, disturbing, and sensual of ways to cope with their loss and my heart was breaking so much for them.  They were each so complex in their thinking and both of their stories were so gut wrenchingly tragic that I could not help but sympathize and understand their need for each other.

‘She undressed me and made love to her past.  I slid into her and made love to my ghosts.’

Luckily the sadness and seriousness of the story was broken up pretty well but Liz’s amazing and hilarious best friend Faye.  She was fun, flawed, and definitely a believable best friend type of character and I would love for her to get her own romance story.

“Did he use tongue?  Did he growl?  Was he shirtless?  Did he motorboat you?  Did you touch his abs?  Did you like his sharp jaw?  Is he the size of a horse?  Did you giddy up?  Did you find his Nemo?  Did you Grace his Frankie?  Did you Justin his Timberlake?”

So, lucky for Faye this incredibly sad story was broken up with bits of hilarity and of course hope.  I had hope all through this book that both characters would come through OK and make strides to be and do better.  So I am happy to report that this one did have a happily ever after that packed some punch with action that had me on the edge of my seat.  I have to say, it shocked me because I did not see it coming at all.  Those endings are always the best and I cannot wait for more from this author.
