The Perfect Catch by Meghan Quinn Review

5 SMOOCHES!

SYNOPSIS:

“Kiss me. Just this once . . . please Walker.”

Those whispered words were my undoing . . .

As the most hated player in baseball, I had two options: either clean up my image or pack my bags. Being traded wasn’t an option which only meant one thing, I had to become compliant.

That’s how I found myself sharing a small bistro table with Kate Chapman, the Chicago Bobbies newest PR Manager. Devastatingly beautiful, vastly intelligent, and incredibly cunning, she knows exactly how to handle my grumpy demeanor.

It was supposed to be simple. Book some PR events, show up, smile for the camera, and be done. But one massive mistake on my end sends me into the trenches with Kate, forcing me to open up to her.

Innocent glances turn into cordial encounters.

Secret touches turn into tempting invitations.

And dangerous nights alone turn into consuming desperation.

I’ve never wanted a woman as much as I want her. And I know she wants me, but there’s a no fraternizing with the players rule. Neither of us can afford to lose our jobs, but we also can’t seem to keep our hands off each other either.

REVIEW:

I have loved every single one of Meghan Quinn’s Brentwood series books. These ball players, the heroines, their heart-tugging, humorous love stories have captured my heart, and I’ve loved every single second I’ve spent in their world.

Walker Rockwell is perhaps the most hated player in baseball. Grumpy and grouchy is his default mood, and his image has taken a serious hit for it. Enter Kate Chapman, the PR/events coordinator for his team, the Bobbies. She’s going to help him spiff up his image by getting him involved in some high profile events that will showcase a softer side of him to the press, the public and the fans—at least that’s the plan. Unfortunately, as is often the way it seems to go for Walker, Kate winds up doing a great deal of damage control rather than simply executing her carefully crafted PR campaign for him. Walker, being the curt curmudgeon that he is, either fights Kate every step of the way or makes it crystal clear he’s going along with her plan very begrudgingly. As they get to know each other through all the forced proximity of these events, their witty banter ignites the chemistry between them. There was this constant push and pull between them was made all the more delicious by the Bobbies’ strict no fraternization policy between players and employees. That touch of taboo on top of everything else proved to be the kindling on the flames of their attraction, and try as they did, fighting the temptation ultimately became a losing battle.

Meghan Quinn and her emotional sneak attacks… I knew it was coming—I knew it. There I was, in the zone, happily devouring this great story, totally swept up in my feels, the happily-ever-after I so wanted for Walker and Kate right there when it happened. Quinn has this way of turning on a dime and serving up powerful emotions in unexpected ways when the reader has been lulled into complacency by this author’s clever use of humor and heat. And I fall for it every single time. Every. Single. Time. It’s brilliant, and it’s absolutely my favorite part of reading Quinn’s work. Being so captivated by the story that I’m taken by surprise by these emotional shifts.

A slow-burning, forbidden sports romance, The Perfect Catch was a hard-fought, heart-racing pleasure to read. This couple had more than their fair share of ups and downs, and I was invested in their story from the start. The Perfect Catch by Meghan Quinn gets five smooches from me!
