3.5 Smooches
Synopsis
Four years have passed since I left home, my parents, and my brother Asher behind – since I shut out my past. And Erin. Four years since I last saw her, since I heard her voice and held her in my arms. I’ve spent my time forging a path from woman to woman, from bed to bed; trying to find an answer. But I think I’ve lost my way. There’s no light at the end of the dark.
No big surprise. I carry the dark inside me. I’m a bastard – branded as such from the start. I never give my phone number and address; I take my pleasure and don’t come back for seconds. No commitments; no promises and no happy endings. Yeah, I’m a bastard down to the bone and I don’t give a damn.
But now I’m back in my birth town, the town I fled at eighteen – back to make amends to the brother I abandoned and watch from afar the only girl I’ve ever wanted. Hope isn’t a currency I can afford; I learned that lesson long ago. Yet when she looks at me and says my name, I can’t help but hope.
This is book 2 in the Inked Brotherhood series which started with Asher. It is a stand-alone work. No cliffhanger.
Review
Tyler is the 2nd book of the Inked Brotherhood Series and I would highly recommend reading Asher before starting Tyler. We were introduced to Tyler in book 1. Drawing you in from the very beginning, Jo Raven, captures the curiosity of the readers and takes you into the lives of this dark character. Tyler Grayson is a victim of child abuse. His father would beat him senseless and he has the scars to prove it. Falling in love with Erin brought him life. Young love with mature issues, had Tyler leave his world behind. Secrets and lies endangered his life and substance abuse becomes a means of distraction. Can Erin and Tyler find their peace with and trust one another?
Jo Raven has a way of bringing these characters and their stories to life. When I read the history of Tyler, I had to look away like it was I witnessed it right in front of me. There are dark demons with Tyler and add the element of loneliness spells disaster. As a mother, I couldn’t image such darkness. It just tugged at my heartstrings. But where there is darkness, there is light, and that was Erin for Tyler. I am a sucker for young love, just can’t get enough of it and root for the characters. The communication skills and honesty were hit and miss with these two. Sometime I just wanted them to spit it out already, lol but that’s what is a recipe for angst in a story 🙂
Substance abuse is evident. Tyler was introduced to the substance abuse when he left Madison. But when trouble stuck his brother Asher, he wanted to become clean. Driven by guilt, Tyler tries to do his all to reconnect with his brother. But before he can fix his relationship with his brother, he needs to fix himself.
I am very intrigued by the stories of these boys. We get a few more glimpses of the character Zane. His character is similar to a father figure, he can read these tortured souls and offer his assistance. Rafe is another member of the brotherhood and he offers wisdom to Tyler as needed. The bond of this brotherhood is beautiful. I hope to continue to read more of this series. 3.5 smooches for Tyler by Jo Raven.
