REVIEW

I’ve read Heidi McLaughlin and L.P. Dover’s individual works before, but this wass my first time reading one of their collaborations; I did not read the first book in the Society X series. I went into this expecting your typical, erotic romance, perhaps heavy on the erotic. Oh, I got that, but I also got so much more than I was expecting to get, too. Viewing Room was a fantastic surprise—it wasn’t at all what I assumed it would be, and it was way more than the blurb implied.

I totally anticipated that this would be a super sexy, steamy novel. I mean, hello, it’s set in a sex club for Pete’s sake! But this book was seriously hot, and my Kindle was smoking in my hot little hands. I could feel the attraction between Kennedy and Hunter pulsing more and more incessantly with each of their encounters—it literally jumped off the page. The authors issue a warning to the readers in the beginning of the book and, trust me when I tell you, you’d be wise to heed it.

What I wasn’t expecting, though, was the absolutely riveting suspense plot. I really don’t want to give anything away here, so I’ll just say that it kept on the edge of my seat, tapping my Kindle furiously. It was exciting (in more ways than one!), it was heart-pounding, and it was interesting. Hunter and Kennedy worked just as well in this part of the story as they did in the bedroom.

Viewing Room also had a really great romance. There was just so much more to Hunter than met the eye, and I loved watching him peel the layers back for Kennedy. He was sweet, he was smart, and he was a very sexy, dirty-talking alpha. I loved him! It took me a bit longer to warm up to Kennedy. On the heels of her divorce, she was a little gun-shy and a bit judgmental, especially when it came to Hunter. But once she let go of that and gave into what she felt for him, her whole persona changed and I really liked her.

Heidi McLaughlin and L.P. Dover did a fantastic job collaborating on this novel. I’m definitely planning to read the first book in the Society X series, as well as whatever comes next. I absolutely loved that this story was told dual points-of-view; it really underscored the fact that this wasn’t Kennedy’s story or Hunter’s story—it was their story. This book was very well written, and McLaughlin and Dover clearly have very complimentary writing styles, and the way they transitioned between the two of them was seamless as I didn’t notice any shifts in style. A fantastically, sexy romantic suspense story! Heidi McLaughlin and L.P. Dover’s Viewing Room gets five smooches from me!
