Review
“The kiss was deliciously intense. So intense it bolted him right out the door. What have I done.”
When Fates Collide by Isabelle Richards is a suspenseful and exciting debut novel. Full of crime, suspense, heat this is a story that will keep you guessing and turning pages till the end. The book begins with Lily being taken to the police station with no idea as to what is going on. We soon me a sexy British man, Gavin and learn that his celebrity druggie or a wife and her philandering criminal of a husband have both been killed in a car accident. I expected the recent deaths of their spouses to turn me off some but the way Isabelle handled it and explained the relationships it did not bother me at all.
“It’s not you I doubt. It’s life.”
Forced into hiding together while the FBI tries to get all the details of the criminal life their spouses (especially her husband, Ash) straight, Gavin and Lily are forced to spend a lot of time together and soon they cannot deny that they not only thoroughly enjoy each other but are very much attracted to each other. But soon Gavin must return to London and despite not having a lot of attachments Lily insist on staying in Boston. Can distance plus a mob after her for the money her deceased husband owes be the end of Lily and Gavin before they really have a chance to start?
“Whoever said size doesn’t matter has clearly never experienced someone with an abundance of it.”
The suspenseful aspect of this book was the highlight for me. While I loved Gavin and Lily (especially Gavin OH BOY do I love a sexy Brit) I was completely drawn into the tangled web of deceit that Ash left in his passing and I felt deeply for Lily as she tired to untangle it all and finally for the first time in her adult life assert her independence. While at a few times I got frustrated with Lily for pushing Gavin away when she clearly needed to lean on him and allow him to be there for her, I cold not really fault her for this. She had not only lost the husband she was married to but in all reality from never truly with she was left with so many dark and devastating secrets and debts. I cannot say in her place I wouldn’t be hesitant to go into something new either.
“One day, I hope to break down your guard and see you build some trust. In me. In the world.”
Gavin’s passion and Lily’s quick wit make this a book you won’t want to miss. The second half of the book was so fast paced and intense I could not put it down and after all was set and done I am very excited to continue to series.
