Hate the Player by Max Monroe Review

Hate the Player (official 9x6)

5 SMOOCHES!

* * * * * * * * * *

SYNOPSIS:

“Roses are red, violets are blue, stay away from Andrew Watson’s *ahem* because no other women ever do.”

That’s quite the way to start a conversation at a casual lunch, huh? Grilled chicken, French fries, and pelvic-fatigue, oh my!

And that’s not even the worst of it.

My friend Raquel didn’t pull any punches when she warned me about my brand-new co-star and his notoriously player-esque ways. Apparently, my most important mission on my first role in a feature film is to stay immune to his charms.

Are you kidding me? Production costs on this movie are in the hundreds of thousands a day, and staying away from a panty-whispering, vajayjay-charmer is supposed to be at the top of my list? Pfft. Puh-lease.

It doesn’t matter that he’s annoyingly attractive, uber rich, crazy famous, and lusted after by ninety percent of the female population; Andrew Watson is trouble with a capital T—especially for a woman like me.

As a preventative measure, I’ve decided to go ahead and hate him.

Don’t worry, you guys, I’m completely in control. There’s absolutely no way I’m going to do something stupid like fall in love with him.

I can hate the player but still secretly love his addictive game.

I’m sure of it.

REVIEW:

A Max Monroe romantic comedy is a real good time. Alternating between fanning myself, swooning and howling with laughter, this author duo has given me hours of entertainment. Hate the Player is their latest romcom, and it is one heck of a wild ride.

I absolutely loved Andrew and Birdie together. They were fire and gasoline from the start. Birdie, a country superstar, was making her Hollywood acting debut. Andrew, a Hollywood heartthrob, was her leading man. I loved Birdie—she was genuine and real, a firecracker with a backbone. She was well informed about Andrew’s notorious playboy ways, and not wanting to be the next notch on his bedpost, she just decided that she’d treat him as her enemy right from the start. Andrew’s favorite pastime was to rile Birdie up, and each of their encounters was more fiery than the last. Their banter was an addictive form of foreplay, and I just couldn’t get enough of Birdie and Andrew. The more they fought, the harder they fell, and I loved how much Andrew grew and changed as the story progressed.

Hate the Player was a fun, flirty and fiery enemies-to-lovers romcom. Witty repartee and sizzling chemistry fuel the build-up of Andrew and Birdie’s relationship, and I spent the day with my Kindle in hand devouring this unputdownable story! Five smooches from me for Hate the Player by Max Monroe!

Cover Design by Hang Le

Is Love Stronger Than Vengeance?

A Betrayal…

Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.

A Choice….

Casteel Da’Neer is known by many names and many faces. His lies are as seductive as his touch. His truths as sensual as his bite. Poppy knows better than to trust him. He needs her alive, healthy, and whole to achieve his goals. But he’s the only way for her to get what she wants—to find her brother Ian and see for herself if he has become a soulless Ascended. Working with Casteel instead of against him presents its own risks. He still tempts her with every breath, offering up all she’s ever wanted. Casteel has plans for her. Ones that could expose her to unimaginable pleasure and unfathomable pain. Plans that will force her to look beyond everything she thought she knew about herself—about him. Plans that could bind their lives together in unexpected ways that neither kingdom is prepared for. And she’s far too reckless, too hungry, to resist the temptation.

A Secret…

But unrest has grown in Atlantia as they await the return of their Prince. Whispers of war have become stronger, and Poppy is at the very heart of it all. The King wants to use her to send a message. The Descenters want her dead. The wolven are growing more unpredictable. And as her abilities to feel pain and emotion begin to grow and strengthen, the Atlantians start to fear her. Dark secrets are at play, ones steeped in the blood-drenched sins of two kingdoms that would do anything to keep the truth hidden. But when the earth begins to shake, and the skies start to bleed, it may already be too late.

THE WHAT IF GUY, a sexy new standalone single dad workplace romantic comedy from #1 New York Times Bestselling Author, Lauren Blakely, is available now!

THE WHAT IF GUY is a sexy single dad standalone romance you can escape into!

A sexy standalone romance with a single dad you’ll fall hard for!

It sounded like the stuff of romantic legends — that whole “their eyes locked across a crowded room” moment that turned into more.

I didn’t believe it. . . . until it happened to me.

Fine, the charming, clever, sexy-as-sin guy in the tailored suit was only trying to buy the same Snoopy lunchbox (as a gift!), but still, our eyes totally locked, and my lady parts definitely tingled as we vied for the prize.

Naturally, I did what any badass business woman would do. Negotiated for the lunchbox, then found my what-if guy online and made plans to see him the next night.

One night only — that was the deal we made.

But one fantastic night had us both changing our minds in the morning. And making plans for another.

Until I walked into the office to learn he just bought my company.

And here’s the biggest rule of romantic legends — no matter what, don’t bang your boss.
Especially if you’re already falling for him.

REVIEW:

Straight out of the gate, Lauren Blakely took me right to my happy place with her latest romantic comedy, The What If Guy. If you’ve followed my reviews, you know I am a huge fan of Blakely’s writing, her romcoms in particular. The What If Guy is right up my alley—this was my jam. Fabulously flirty banter, electric chemistry—the kind that had me looking around to make sure no one was reading over my shoulder—and a wonderfully entertaining plot that was low on the angsty drama but high on the good stuff like the connection, the relationship, the romance.

Single dad, Logan, was everything I love in my heroes. He was commanding without being domineering, alpha without being arrogant. He was thoughtful, he was kind, and it all came together in a wonderfully hot and handsome package. Bryn, the heroine, was sharp, vibrant, and a woman who knew what she wanted. She was driven and successful, and I loved her whip smart wit and her unapologetic sexuality. Oh yes, this couple was FIRE.

An unexpected meet cute that didn’t quite materialize and ends in a missed connection. Kismet—with the help of a little technology—intervenes to turn it around for this couple. Fate is a fickle mistress, though, and right after an unbelievably fantastic first date, she steps in again to throw an unanticipated workplace wrinkle into their budding relationship. This is where the fun begins. The do they or don’t they, the push and pull—the what if—that Blakely does so well. The kind of chemistry she creates on the page between Logan and Bryn make ignoring it entirely impossible.

The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely was a bit forbidden but that just made it more delicious. Lighthearted and heartwarming, this feel-good story was romantic and steamy, witty and charming, and full of all the easy feels I love from this author. Five smooches from me for The What If Guy by Lauren Blakely!

How to Date a Younger Man by Kendall Ryan Release Blitz

HOW TO DATE A YOUNGER MAN
by Kendall Ryan
Release Day: July 21, 2020

Tips for Surviving a Fling with a Sexy Younger Man

First, you’d think as a thirty-something-year-old woman, I’d be immune to Griffin’s flirty
comments and six-pack abs. You’d think that his carefree playboy attitude, or the fact that he’s
still finishing grad school, would deter me.

You’d be wrong.

If you accidentally bang your best friend’s younger brother, here are a few important tips . . .

One:  Do not brag to your friend about how well-endowed her brother is.

Two:  Do not go back for seconds (or thirds).

Three:  Do not let him see your muffin top or jiggly behind. And definitely don’t let him feed you
cookies in bed. Cookies are bad. Remember that.

Four:  Act like a damn grown-up and apologize for riding him like a bull at the rodeo. And do not
flirt with him when he laughs at said apology.

Five:  This one is crucial, so pay attention.

Do not, under any circumstances, fall in love with him.

EXCERPT:

“Why did you turn the air on?” she asked, looking above us to the open air.

“I’m hot.” Desperate. What would it take for her to put on a goddamn sweater? “Are you wearing sunscreen?”

“Uh, no.” She gave me a sideways glance. “Why?”

“You’re going to get burned.” Get the sweater, Kat. You know you want to.

“I’ll be fine. At the next gas station, I’ll grab a bottle for us.”

Us. Why did that word sound so serious? It wasn’t the intimate kind of us. There was no us. Not in the couple sense of the word. Did I want there to be an us?

Yes.

That lightning-fast internal response nearly had me slamming on the brakes, turning this car around and going back to Montana, where the world was normal.

Kat was my friend. My best friend. Roommate. Coworker. Pseudo sibling. There were days when I’d trade Easton for her permanently. Okay, any day. There were plenty of ways to label our relationship and us was not one.

I could not—would not—tear down the boundaries that nearly a decade and firm family reminders had put in place.

REVIEW:

Kendall Ryan spins the whole friend’s sibling trope on its head in How to Date a Younger Man with an older woman and younger man who just so happens to be her friend’s brother and ten years her junior. I love Kendall’s romantic comedies and contemporary romances, and she consistently turns out the kinds of entertaining, amusing, sexy and heartfelt romances that I love to read.

Layne and Griffin’s story unfolds over several years. From that first spark of attraction when they met, the heat between them smolders and simmers, but Layne, who’s laser focused on finding a man to settle down with, repeatedly rejects the idea of a younger man, especially once she finds out that Griffin is her friend’s brother. She and Griffin settle into a comfortable friendship, and as the years pass, that bond grows, they get to know each other well, becoming the closest of friends.

I loved Griffin! He was so sweet and thoughtful, and he’s mature beyond his years. Layne, a successful attorney who owns her own law firm, can’t get over the age gap between them, and relegates him to the friend zone. I did love how their friendship grew, but I must admit Layne was beginning to frustrate me when she couldn’t see past Griffin’s age to the man he was. Everything she was looking for and wanted in a partner was staring right back at her. When she finally she pulled her head out, though, it was full speed ahead.

How to Date a Younger Man was a steamy, slow burning romance, and once the shift from friendship to lovers happened, I couldn’t get enough of their story. Griffin and Layne’s love story was heartracingly sexy, sweet and romantic, and I devoured it. How to Date a Younger Man by Kendall Ryan gets 4.5 smooches from me!

REVIEW:

Another book into Devney Perry’s fantastic Runaway series, and it’s official. This series has me swooning all the swoons, feeling all the feels and loving each new book even more than I loved the last. The premise of this series is incredibly original, and Perry’s writing has been fresh and creative. For me personally, the benchmark of a truly unique and memorable story is the struggle of wanting to race through a story while simultaneously wanting to slow down enjoy the ride. So far, each of these books in this series has been that special kind of story that I couldn’t read fast enough yet didn’t want to end.

Katherine Gates knew when she arrived at the Greer ranch in Montana that she found what had been looking for—a home. Twelve years later, she’s not only worked her way up to general manager of the posh resort but she’s an honorary Greer family member. Middle son, Cash Greer, returned home from college to find three girls working on his family’s ranch, and the message from his family was crystal clear—they were off limits, so into the friend zone was where Katherine went. Cash and Katherine do have a special relationship, though. They’re best friends and roommates. Somewhere along the way, she’s also fell in love with him, which is an unfortunate complication seeing as he doesn’t return the sentiment. She’s learned over the years to push those feelings down, leaving them hidden and unacknowledged. But the older she gets, the more restless she feels as the desire to settle down and start her own family becomes harder to ignore.

Devney Perry penned an emotional story of friendship and family tinged with the bittersweet sting of unrequited love in Quarter Miles. As heartbreaking as it was heartwarming, I couldn’t help but feel for Katherine as she attempted to come to terms with her feelings for her best friend. Wanting some space and a chance to clear her head and heart of these one-sided emotions, she prepares to head out on a road trip to the coast to surprise an old friend and deliver a piece of their shared history. Unbeknownst to Katherine, however, Cash learns of her plan and is in the passenger seat, riding shotgun, before she can even get the car out of park. Katherine’s not the only one who has time to think out there on the open road, though. Cash has a couple of revelations and realizations of his own as well. All of these new and confusing emotions lead to a few arguments and awkward moments. Pile on years of unacknowledged lust and attraction, and it’s no surprise when it all bubbles over and explodes into passion.

I love a good friends-to-lovers romance, and Quarter Miles was a fantastic one. It was sweet, it was sexy, and there was so much genuine emotion within this hard fought love story. Cash and Katherine captured my attention in the previous book, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. Devney did not let me down, she delivered an unputdownable story that managed to both satisfy me while leaving me hungry for more. Five smooches from me for Quarter Miles by Devney Perry!
