Taming Hollywood’s Baddest Boy by Max Monroe Review

5 SMOOCHES!

* * * * * * * * * *

SYNOPSIS:

Okay, fine. I’m not asking for a friend.

I’m asking for me—and I’m begging you to tell me that the practice of falling in love with your should-be-enemy is common.

Please tell me that I’m not the only person to track down a guy—who used to be Hollywood’s baddest bad boy before he left LA for good—at his off-the-grid cabin in Alaska, show up unannounced, and find him gloriously naked.

This probably happens all the time…right?

Tell me I’m not alone in my stupidity—that I’m not the only woman who would fall for gorgeous blue eyes and a sexy devilish smirk, even if they belong to a broody, mysterious jerk.

Please. Please. Please. Tell me I’m not alone in this.

For the love of everything, I need all the supportive girl power I can get if I’m going to convince Luca Weaver to come back to Hollywood—otherwise known as the place he hates so much that he ghosted Oscar-level success and escaped to no-man’s-land for the last eight years just to avoid it.

Yeah, don’t worry—that smoke you’re smelling isn’t your house catching fire as you read this…it’s just my career and what was previously known as my heart going up in flames.

Gah. Is it just me, or am I totally, completely, and utterly screwed?

REVIEW:

Max Monroe’s books make me happy. Imaginative plots, endearing characters and love stories that manage to both tug at my heart and make it race, this talented twosome hits the nail on the head for me every time. Hilarious and witty, full of laughter-inducing comedy, the humor in their stories is wildly entertaining. Theirs are the kind of stories that make you laugh out loud, snorting out your hilarity for all to hear, so keep that in mind if you plan on reading one of their books in public.

I loved everything about this fresh, creatively plotted rom com. Taming Hollywood’s Baddest Boy is a complete standalone, and I was immediately smitten with Billie and Luca. Billie, a down-to-earth girl from West Virginia, had big dreams and was working hard on chasing them. Unfortunately thanks to some goading from her nemesis, her ambitions got the best of her, and she wound up making an outrageous promise that was either going to be the coup of her career or the crash-and-burn moment.

Luca’s womanizing, hard-partying ways earned him the reputation not just as a Hollywood bad boy, but the Hollywood bad boy. That life was slowly killing him, though, and in a moment of self-preservation, he walked away from it all and never, ever looked back. Eight years later, he’s content in his quiet, simple life in Nowheresville, Alaska until a green-eyed goddess shows up uninvited on his doorstep to convince the reclusive former A-List actor that now was the time to make his grand Hollywood comeback.

Luca and Billie were as fiery as they were funny. Their banter, oh the absolutely fantastic banter, first began sharply between the two and gradually grew into flirty. I loved that build-up between them, and I was tap, tap, tapping my Kindle furiously to get to the moment when all those sparks were going to finally catch fire. The chemistry between them was just so deliciously combustible, and the fact that it thoroughly annoyed them both at first was even better. While this story definitely started out with an enemies-to-lovers vibe, I completely hooked well before this couple’s feelings flipped from adversarial to affectionate.

Taming Hollywood’s Baddest Boy was an addictive blend of sweet, sexy romance with plenty of that smiling ear-to-ear humor that I crave from this author. Light-hearted and an absolute pleasure to read, I devoured this book until my throat ached from my laughter, my cheeks burned with a blush and my heart soared at the tender happily ever after. Five smooches from me for Taming Hollywood’s Baddest Boy by Max Monroe!

THE TRADE by Meghan Quinn
Release Date: March 12th
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Can you pinpoint a time in your life where you realized you are completely and utterly screwed?

I can. I got the dreaded phone call, the one every baseball player hopes and prays never comes.

I was traded. Yeah, that phone call.

Traded from my long time team of over ten years. And not just to any team, but my childhood rivals; the Chicago Rebels.

Completely and utterly screwed, right? Wrong. The trade was the least of my concerns.

I met a girl. Natalie. Man, she’s perfect.

I swore I would never get involved with anyone during the season. Too complicated. But can you believe I have zero restraint when it comes to this girl? I couldn’t get her out of my head and the more I talked to her, the more I realized I needed her in my life.

So what’s the problem? Why am I screwed? Because, Natalie, the girl I can’t stop crushing on, yeah . . . she’s married.

At least, that’s what I was told . . .

EXCERPT:

CORY

I’m fucked.

I’m sure you hear that all the time, so the term has lost its impact.

I ran out of sugar for my cookie batter . . . I’m fucked.

Forgot my phone in my car . . . I’m fucked.

Saw my neighbor’s old-man balls . . . I’m fucked for life.

I can guarantee you right now, this is nothing compared to old-man balls and cookies.

This is way worse.

This defines the term, I’m fucked.

What is it you ask?

It happened after one of the worst baseball seasons of my life. Traded halfway through the season to the team I’d hated my entire life, I was drowning in the constant media attention, persecuting me for the pass off for my multi-million-dollar contract.

“We want to win,” the Rebels said. “We can do that with Cory Potter wearing black and red.” And just like that, the team I’ve been playing for my entire professional career up and traded me to unload my hefty salary to develop new up-and-comers from the farm system.

The Rebels.

I’m a fucking Chicago Rebel. Words I never thought I’d say, especially growing up as a Chicago Bobcats fan, the rival team to the Rebels. Not just rival, but enemies. The teams themselves don’t get along, the fans hate each other, and Chicago is divided for a good portion of the year when the stadium lights are on.

But here I am, my name attached to the biggest trade in sports history.

A ballsy move.

An upset to Baltimore.

A baseball anomaly: All-American turned Rebel.

I’ve heard it all, I’ve seen it all, and no matter what’s splashed across the headlines, it doesn’t deviate from the fact that my long-time team decided to part ways with me midseason.

Mid-fucking-season.

After fourteen years, I packed up everything and moved back to Chicago.

But even that’s not why I’m fucked; it’s just the start of it.

The beginning of the end.

Dramatic? Maybe.

But if you were in my shoes, you’d be thinking the same thing.

After not even coming close to getting into the playoffs, the season ended, I was booed off the field because that’s how Rebels fans are—you don’t perform, they hate you—and I sequestered myself to my practically empty and cold apartment.

After a week of binge-eating deep-dish pizza and watching every prison documentary on Netflix, my sister finally dragged me out of my apartment, forcing me to attend a Bobbies playoff game with her so we could cheer on my brother-in-law. Her husband.

Seeing a Rebels player cheering on a Bobbies player plastered all over the news went over just as well as a grandma telling her grandson her favorite pastime is cock-tickling.

Not well.

But still . . . not the reason I’m fucked.

This is beyond worse than that.

During that game, I got the talk. Not the birds and bees, but the talk from a concerned sister about my lack of social life.

You really should get out more.
I know some single moms who are really nice.
Maybe a dating app might be fun. Girls would be ecstatic to match with the one and only Cory Potter.
I don’t want you dying alone.

That last one was a real kicker.

Dying alone. I’m fucking thirty-five and she has me with one toe in my grave.

The way I see it is, if you don’t meet your girl in college or high school, you’re sure as shit not going to meet her while playing professional baseball. Not when the schedule is obscenely busy and long, and not when you’re known for one thing in your city: making a shitload of money for playing a sport.

It’s almost impossible to find genuine relationships when you have this level of fame.
So I’ve resolved to waiting until after I retire to fall in love.

That doesn’t mean I’ve been celibate, I’m a man after all—a man with a shitload of adrenaline pumping through him on a daily basis. I’ve had my fair share of one-night stands with women, and a few on a solid repeat with zero expectations. Every woman I’ve bedded I’ve treated with respect, and I’ve been honest with them, because if anything, I’m a genuinely nice guy who doesn’t ever want to make someone feel bad.

Ask anyone who knows me, I’m the nice guy, the dependable guy, the leader with a heart.

I don’t screw women over, ever.

Are you thinking one of those one-night stands turned into an “accident”? Is that the reason I’m fucked? Got a girl I don’t know pregnant?

Nope, not that either.

But the conversation I had with Milly pushed me to a new way of thinking.

I don’t want you dying alone.

She made me fucking paranoid.

Was I really going to die alone?

Were my good years behind me and now I’m old meat on the market?

Should I be trying to find love in the midst of the craziness of my life?

Milly made me think, which then made me open up to the idea of finding someone, of looking at women differently, of allowing the relationship part of my brain to turn on.

So instead of ignoring every woman that has relationship potential I’d possibly look for, I turned off my blinders and started looking for them.

But I didn’t come close to meeting anyone that remotely fit the box of someone I’d consider going out on a date with. That was until I attended a certain charity event.

I saw her from across the room. Her smile was what caught my eye, then it was the way she laughed and held on to her brother’s hand, her brother who had cerebral palsy.

It was the way she’d lean into him, hold him, as if he was the most wonderful human she’d ever met.

The fact that she was absolutely breathtaking with piercing blue eyes had nothing to do with it.

It was her infectious laughter.
Her kind heart.
Her dedication to her family.

In a matter of seconds, I wanted to know her, wanted to find out her name, wanted to be in her orbit. Wanted to be a recipient of her warmth and affection.

I watched her from across the room, how she interacted with every person who came up to her, and when I was finally granted the opportunity to introduce myself, my breath caught in my throat when our hands connected. I felt my heart slam against the cage in my chest. And I knew, in that moment, with our hands mid shake, my life would never be the same.

Her name is Natalie.

Sister to my new teammate Jason Orson and his twin brother Joseph.

Director of Jason’s foundation, The Lineup.

And the reason why I’m utterly fucked.

Because while I started to grow attached to this magnetic and beautiful woman, when I told my sister about her, she informed me there was a ring on Natalie’s finger.

A ring that didn’t belong to me.

Hope plummeted in the matter of seconds as I felt the color from my besotted face drain into a puddle of remorse.

She was married.

She is fucking married.

See? Totally fucked.

I’ve been crushing so hard, because even a month later, I still think about her. I can still hear her laugh, see her smile, feel her hand in mine.

I want her.
Fucking bad.

They say time will heal all wounds, well for me, the more time passes, the more my wound is exposed and tormented.

Cory Potter is crushing on a married woman . . .

That is why I am completely and utterly . . . fucked.

REVIEW:

Meghan Quinn’s writing just does it for me—it hits on all the things I want in the romances I pick up to read. Brimming with Quinn’s quirky sense of humor, her stories also pack a serious emotional punch. Billowing with steam and an addictive romance, her engrossing plots fit her characters perfectly. She writes the stuff I want to read, and I’m always looking forward to what’s next from her.

The Trade is the fourth book in her Brentwood Baseball series, and I’ll just say right now that baseball isn’t my first love when it comes to sports romances. But between the endearing characters in this series and their hard-fought love stories, these ball players have completely won me over. Cory Potter takes his turn at bat in The Trade, and I fell for this guy over cupcakes at a charity event.

Heading into the twilight years of a career that will earn him a place in the Hall of Fame, Cory is suddenly and unexpectedly traded—mid-season—from the team where he’s spent his entire career and the city where he’s built a life to a team in his hometown of Chicago. The problem is that the team they’re sending him to are the notorious bad boys of baseball, and nothing about this team, from their rough-around-the-edges players and coaches to their rowdy, raucous fans, is his style. To say it’s not going well is a vast understatement, and for the first time in his otherwise stellar career, he’s struggling on and off the field. That is until he meets the woman of his dreams, his teammate’s sister, Natalie.

My heart positively broke for Cory and all that he was dealing with. I get that it comes with the territory as a professional athlete, but I honestly cannot imagine having to go through what he did, and Meghan did a fantastic job painting this painful picture and laying out all the ways it affected Cory’s professional and personal lives and decision-making processes. Then he met Natalie, and I felt the spark he did and then his overwhelming disappointment when he learned that she was married. Turns out she wasn’t, she’s freshly divorced, something Cory learns when he’s stuck sharing a room with her on a post-season trip to the Caribbean with his sister, her husband and their baseball friends and wives.

The Trade was a sweet and tender love story full of emotion, humor and passion. I’ve been waiting for Cory’s story since we met him earlier in the season, and Meghan Quinn knocked it out of the park with this heart-tugging romance. I laughed, I swooned, I blushed and I bawled my way through this book, and I loved every single second of it. Five smooches from me for The Trade by Meghan Quinn!

Maybe Swearing Will Help by Lani Lynn Vale Release Blitz

MAYBE SWEARING WILL HELP

By Lani Lynn Vale

Release Date:  March 10, 2020

Ford Spurlock has known Ashe Trammel since they were babies.

He’s also done his level best to stay away from her because every time he gets to within five feet of her, they’re fighting like cats and dogs.

Ashe is the apple of her father’s eye. The motorcycle club princess that was never to be harmed in any way—or touched for that matter. And he’s always resented the fact that she could get away with things that he couldn’t. Things that she then blames on him and he always gets punished for.

Fast forward to adulthood, and Ashe is still off limits. Still driving him insane. Still…beautiful.

She never misses an opportunity to give him hell, either.

That has to be why he agrees to do a photoshoot for KPD SWAT that’ll benefit her charity even when he’d rather shoot himself in the foot with his duty weapon.

* * *

Ashe never thought he’d agree.

Honestly, she thought she’d ask him, he’d say no, and that’d be the end of it.

She never realized that she’d leave his photo up in her cubicle, and it’d be the last thing that she saw every night as she locked her office door.

When they were kids, Ford used to be that boy that threw dirt at her and pulled her hair.

Now, he’s the same Ford Spurlock, only a whole lot sexier. And a lot harder to say no to.

When he challenges her to one date, she has no other recourse but to agree.

What she didn’t agree to was falling in love with Mr. March. Or wanting to give him everything she had to give.

REVIEW:

Lani Lynn Vale’s original KPD-SWAT series is one of my favorites from her, and it’s been so much fun to revisit those characters and get to know their children, along with some new characters, in this second generation series. Vale has created something truly unique for her readers in her fictional East Texas world. She’s been building this world for years—story by story and series by series—through many crisscrossing, overlapping books. Vale has given her readers an incredible reading experience, rich in unmatched character development and a world full of familiar faces.

Maybe Swearing Will Help, the third book in the S.W.A.T. Generation 2.0 series from Lani Lynn Vale, was a frenemies-to-lovers romance between Ashe Trammel and Ford Spurlock. Friends since childhood, Ashe and Ford have a complicated love/hate relationship in that they love to pretend they hate each other while also kind of hating the fact that they actually love each other.

“It was like a pasture fire deep in the middle of a Texas drought. He went from one extreme to the other. A whisper of smoke to totally consumed in point five seconds.”

Bickering, bantering and betting their way through life, Ashe and Ford’s fierce rivalry raged between them their whole lives. They try to snuff out the heat burning between them with sarcasm, snappy arguments and dares. But that fire never fizzles out, and eventually it engulfs them. I loved everything about these two. They fit together so well, and succumbing to the love they felt for each other felt like a natural progression of their relationship. They worked well together on every level, and I loved how their relationship morphed and changed when they finally gave in to their feelings. Vale introduced a suspense arc that will probably play out over a few books, and I loved how Ashe and Ford both dove into that case and worked it together.

Maybe Swearing Will Help was a sexy, sweet, soul-deep love story between two life-long friends, and Vale did a fantastic job weaving an exciting suspense story, along with plenty of humor, into this romance. Five smooches from me for Maybe Swearing Will Help by Lani Lynn Vale!

Down and Dirty by Kendall Ryan Review

4.5 SMOOCHES!

* * * * * * * * * *

SYNOPSIS:

Your favorite hot jocks are back with an all new stand-alone novel.

Whoops.

Last night in Vegas is a blur. There were drunken shenanigans … And now I’m waking up naked wrapped around Landon freaking Covington, my incredibly hot younger guy friend, with a wedding ring on my finger and a marriage certificate on the table next to me.

Like I said, whoops. I’m thirty. I should know better, but what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, right?

Well, apparently not.

Because I’ve married the last alpha-male virgin on the planet. Yep, virgin. And my stubborn, oddly traditional new husband doesn’t want a divorce. He wants me.

If you like sexy, confident men who know how to handle a stick (on and off the ice), and smart women who are strong enough to keep all those big egos in check, this series of athlete romances is perfect for you!

(Books can be enjoyed in any order.)

* * * * * * * * * *

REVIEW:

I am loving Kendall Ryan’s Hot Jocks series so much! She has been creatively blending the friends-to-lovers trope with another to form distinct and personal romantic foundations for each couple in this hockey-themed series. Every single one of these stories has been unique, thoroughly entertaining and smoking hot. There are definitely feels to be felt in each of these romances, but nothing overwhelmingly angsty. Ryan layers in just enough conflict to keep readers engaged, but these stories are lighter-hearted, feel-good, pleasures to read. I simply can’t get enough of these completely swoon-worthy hockey players and their feisty, fiery women, and I am officially addicted.

Landon has just completed his rookie year, and even though he’s the new guy, his teammates have welcomed him into their crew. During a joint bachelor/bachelorette weekend in Vegas for his teammate, Owen, and his bride-to-be, Becca, Landon and Aubree, one of the bride’s best friends, learn that what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay there when they wake up after a night of drunken shenanigans with more than just a hangover.

Cautious and career-focused, Aubree’s main concern is their seven-year age difference. The thing about that, though, was that more often than not, it was Landon, the younger one of the two of them, who was the calm, cool voice of reason. He was mature beyond his years, decisive and determined. He knew what he wanted—an honest chance with Aubree to build something real. He was patient and thoughtful, and I loved how his introspections allowed him to be really open and vulnerable with her. He may have lacked some practical experience, but there was no mistaking his desire for her. His reverent explorations of her coupled with his natural alpha personality was so incredibly hot. The fact that they didn’t rush to consummate their relationship, focusing their intimate activities instead on discovering, learning and experimenting with each other, was even hotter. I’ll admit that there were times I was screaming in my head at Aubree to open her eyes and her heart to this sexy, kind and sweet man before her. It took her a while to get there, but once she did, she was all in.

Down and Dirty was another awesome story in a series full of them. Landon and Aubree’s chemistry was off the charts, and I loved their sexy, slow burn romance. This was one seriously swoony and steamy part friends-to-lovers, part fake marriage romance, and I devoured it in a day. Down and Dirty by Kendall Ryan gets 4.5 smooches from me!

TheRichBoy EBOOK

I’m the type of girl who’s given up on fairy tales. So when Beck – the hot new busboy at work – starts flirting with me, I know better than to get my hopes up. Happily ever afters aren’t for the average. I learned that the hard way.

But how can I be expected to resist a man who can quote Austen, loves making me laugh, and seems to be everything hot and good in this world?

Only there’s so much more to him than that.

Billionaire playboy? Check.
Troubled soul? Check.
The owner of my heart, the man I’ve moved halfway across the country to be with, who’s laying the world at my feet in order to convince me to never leave? Check. Check. Check.

But nobody does complicated like the one percent.

This is not your everyday rags-to-riches, knight-in-shining armor whisking the poor girl off her feet kind of story. No, this is much messier.

Runaway Road by Devney Perry Release Blitz with Excerpt

RUNAWAY ROAD from USA Today Bestselling Author, Devney Perry, is available now!

“Heartfelt, tender, with a side of finding yourself again. Devney Perry has me falling hard for this soul-warming new series and I can’t wait for more!”  ~Author Catherine Cowles

Londyn McCormack didn’t have a typical childhood. She ran away from home at sixteen, escaping parents more interested in drugs than their daughter. She doesn’t have loving siblings or an adorable pet. Her only family is the five other runaway kids who shared her junkyard home.

Life pulled them all in separate directions, taking her to Boston. For a short time, she thought she’d found something permanent. But after a devastating divorce, she’s running away again, this time to find a lost friend.

She’s driving across the country in her convertible. As a teenager, the rusty car was her shelter. As an adult, it’s her ride to freedom.

Except one flat tire derails her trip. Her life collides with Brooks Cohen. They walked away from the first crash. The second might destroy them both.

EXCERPT:

“When was the last time you had pie for dinner?”

“Can’t say I ever have.”

Her fork dove into the chocolate cream. She hummed and her eyes drifted closed when the bite passed her lips. She savored it, rolling it around in her mouth. The woman had a talented tongue—lucky pie. She moaned again, torturing me with the subtle sound.

She swallowed, then shot me a smile that was pure sex. “You’re missing out.”

I snapped my fingers, raising my hand in the air to flag down the waitress. When she came over, I pointed to Londyn’s plate. “I’ll have that.”
