REVIEW:

Lauren Blakely scores with another MFM hockey romance winner in Puck Yes, the second book in her My Hockey Romance series. Blakely’s writing is addictive, amusing and amorous in these kinds of stories. As a long-time reader, I believe that these kinds of character-driven romances are made for Lauren’s special style of storytelling. Set against the high-adrenaline backdrop of professional hockey, Blakely takes her readers on an unputdownable journey of passion on and office the ice as these characters skate off into a complex relationship.

I listened to the audiobook, and the chemistry between Teddy Hamilton, Jacob Morgan and Samantha Brentmoor was effortlessly natural and wildly entertaining. They delivered phenomenal independent and collective performances, breathing life into the characters through my Air Pods.

The chemistry between Ivy, Stefan and Hayes was so smoking hot, it’s a miracle the ice they made their living on didn’t melt. This throuple was as in-sync with each other as the first line of championship team, but what really did it for me was how obsessed the heroes were with the heroine—I loved that for her. Their chemistry wasn’t just sexual, though. Their witty and sharp dialogue was the perfect foundation for to the snappy banter between these characters, and a genuine connection between all of them was evident in all aspects of their relationship.

Puck Yes by Lauren Blakely was a scorching-hot and heartwarming tale that had me cheering for the throuple from start to finish. The evolution of this trio’s unconventional relationship from friends with benefits to something more meaningful is expertly paced, making the emotional payoff incredibly satisfying. The workplace hockey backdrop adds an exciting and unique twist to the story, and the undeniable chemistry between the characters is absolutely scorching. Blakely’s addictive storytelling shines through as she wove this loving, lustful tale about the importance of taking chances. A passionate, clever and heartfelt sports romance with a twist, Blakely’s second MFM romance is as satisfying as the game-winning goal in the last game of the Stanley Cup finals. Five smooches from me for Puck Yes by Lauren Blakely!

What could possibly go wrong fake dating the gorgeous single dad in a small town?

The answer, you fall for him.

It started out perfect. Grady Whitlock needed a plus one for his business meetings, and I needed a date for a wedding.

We had a plan. It was a good one.

Until it wasn’t.

I was not supposed to have feelings for him. I was not going to let my heart race when his soulful blue eyes stared into mine. No way should I have noticed his smile or the dimple on his right cheek or his strong arms when he held me close. I especially wasn’t going to melt when I saw him play with my daughter.

Most of all I was not going to sleep with him.

Nope. None of that was supposed to happen, but it does.

Now I find myself dreaming of him every night. Wishing we were really a couple because the way he kisses me doesn’t feel as if it’s pretend.

But we’ve both watched our dreams shatter, and I can’t handle another broken heart.

REVIEW:

Lacey Black delivers a poignant and heartwarming story in Without You, the eighth book of her Burgers and Brew Crüe series. A second-chance-at-first-love, single-dad, small-town romance, this was one heck of an emotional rollercoaster that kept me hooked from the first page. I’ve been a Lacey Black reader since her first book was released. I’ve often said that her small-town romances are the ones I measure them all against, and I still feel that way. Her evocative prose, heartfelt stories, beautifully crafted characters and the quintessential small towns she creates all blend together seamlessly into these captivating stories.

Without You features a single father hero, devoted to raising his four-year-old special needs son. Tucker Dunn has already loved and lost Kinsley McGregor once in his life when she moved to Nashville to pursue her dreams of becoming a country singer. Now a rising country music star, Kinsley is about to take the stage when the news breaks of her husband’s infidelity, complete with video. With her marriage imploding, she heads back home, to Stewart Grove, to nurse her broken, humiliated heart at her brother’s house. It isn’t long before she runs into Tucker and his young son, Grayson.

Lacey takes her readers along as Tucker and Kinsley rekindle the love they shared as teenagers. The small-town setting provides a charming backdrop for a love story that’s as real and relatable as it is beautifully written. The hero’s journey as a single dad is touching, showcasing the challenges and rewards of parenthood while adding a layer of tenderness to the story. Black’s ability to infuse raw emotion into the narrative, making you feel the characters’ pain, joy, and everything in between created an addictive slow-burn romance full of feels. Five smooches from me for Without You by Lacey Black!

Going tit for tat with the man you hate is all fun and games until things get literal…and the jerk sees you naked.

My beach getaway was only supposed to include three things: relaxation, wine, and fun in the sun.

Mack Houston, on the other hand, should have never—ever—been involved.

In no uncertain terms, he’s the bane of my existence.

The thorn in my side.

The sexy Mr. Good-Time Guy who drives me up the wall and my work archnemesis for the past five years.

He’s the last person I want to get stuck anywhere with—it’s bad enough that I have to see him every day at work—and yet, because of a booking error (or curse of the universe, as I like to call it), I’m stuck in the same vacation rental with him for an entire week.

I’m going to end up in jail.

Or worse, I might just give in to the insane urge to find out if his lips are really as kissable as they look.

One way or the other, disaster feels imminent.

EXCERPT:

Mack

The sound of rushing water makes my eyebrows pull together, and a sudden sense of urgency lights a fire under my feet. I push the bathroom door open with a bang, and a shrill, frightened scream shatters the air.

“Ahhhhh! Oh my God!” a wet woman cries from the walk-in shower at the top of her lungs. “Who are you?!”

It’s uncontrolled chaos for several moments as she gets louder and louder, and my body fights to make sense of what’s happening. My defenses are alert, and my grasp on reality is shaken.

Is that… Could that be Katy Dayton…naked?

No way.

Her hair is wet and soapy, and her body is covered in a sheen of water as the showerhead continues to spray toward her.

I mean, it really looks like her…but how?

She turns and whips her arms across her chest, and her forehead creases in the center with uncontrolled disgruntlement. It’s a look I know well from experience and one I can’t mistake when it comes to her. She’s the only woman I know who can make a stink eye look downright beautiful.

Sweet Mary, mother of Jesus, it’s her. And she is, in fact, naked.

“Why are you in here?!” she screams again, and the shrill volume is enough to yank me out of my dazed state of mind.

I turn around as quickly as I can, but I have to admit that the vision of her bare—perky and perfect—right breast will likely be burned into my brain forever. If it weren’t for the tile half-wall on the bottom of the ornate shower blocking my view of the lower half of her body, I might be dead right now, in all honesty.

Sure, she’s freaking out now, but I have a feeling she’d be freaking out even more if she suddenly had a corpse to deal with.

“Katy, it’s okay. It’s okay. Calm down, it’s me. Mack. Mack Houston,” I ramble, my back still to her, and I hold my hands up above my shoulders in some sort of weird message of innocence.

“Mack?!” she shouts at the top of her lungs, louder than she did when she reacted like I was an ax-murdering intruder.

“Yes. That’s me.”

“What in the h-e-double-hockey-sticks are you doing here?”

I almost laugh over the fact that she can’t even curse under these circumstances. Always proper and professional, that’s Katy Dayton for you.

“I’m—”

“You know what?” She cuts me off before I can explain. “Never mind. Just get out. Get out. Get out!”

I throw a thumbs-up over my shoulder. “Getting out right now. I swear. You come find me when you’re done, and we’ll sort this out.”

“Get out!” she shrieks again, making my feet fall into a jog all on their own. I grab the edge of the bathroom door and swing it closed behind me as swiftly as I can but stop there before going any farther.

My coworker. Katy Dayton. Naked. In the bathroom of my vacation rental.

Man oh man, I’m betting she hates me even more now.

REVIEW:

A fantastic blend of heat and hilarity, Best Frenemies by Max Monroe was a romcom riot that hit all the right notes of the enemies-to-lovers trope. Max Monroe’s writing is sharp, and their ability to balance steamy romance with laugh-out-loud humor is very entertaining. Side-splitting humor and tension-filled romance made for a light-hearted, laughter-filled, love with the last person you’d expect kind of story.

Best Frenemies was full of Max Monroe’s signature witty banter and sizzling chemistry, making for an uproarious journey bursting with snarky one-liners, comedic mishaps and a healthy dose of steamy romance. I loved the enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Mack and Katy, and it totally fed into the slap-stick style humor and kept me furiously tapping my Kindle. If you’re in the mood for a light and breezy, feel-good, steamy romcom, this is the perfect devour-it-in-a-day read. Best Frenemies by Max Monroe gets four smooches from me!

EXCERPT:

I had my key ready to put into the four locks on the door to the building where my studio was in Brooklyn, and with practiced ease, I was out of the New York autumn morning cold in no time.

I locked the door behind me and headed to the space in the sectioned off warehouse that I rented for my studio.

I had to unlock that door too (only three locks this time), and once inside, I practically ran into Chuck, my cameraman, who was for some reason right there and crowding me.

My space was small, but this was weird.

I looked at his face, and…great.

We’d probably been burgled.

It wasn’t like I had a ton of expensive equipment, but what I had was hard won. I had offers coming in, and they were healthier than I’d allowed myself to dream, but I hadn’t signed on any dotted line. So, for the foreseeable future, ongoing operating costs, and any expansion, was on me.

I didn’t have time to deal with police reports and insurance companies telling me how little they could actually replace seeing as some small line in their contract exempted them from doing what I paid them to do. Nor did I need to be shelling out to replace stuff.

“What’s up?” I warily asked Chuck.

“Hale Wheeler is here,” he whispered.

Oh no.

That was worse than being burgled.

My gaze flew beyond Chuck to my set which was a one-step dais on which sat a mint green velvet swivel chair with a glass-topped gold side table beside it. These were in front of a greenscreen backdrop we could make anything we wanted it to be. Though usually it was subtle pastel green and peach swirls against a soft white with the words “Elsa’s Exchange” repeated throughout.

And damn it all to hell, there he was.

Tall, ridiculously handsome, athletically built Hale Wheeler, the richest man in the world.

REVIEW:

Kristen Ashley returns to her River Rain series with Fighting the Pull, a heartstring-pulling masterpiece that packs a serious emotional punch. KA masterfully combines suspense, steam and heart-wrenching emotion into a story that kept me on the edge of my seat. I’ve been looking forward to this book since I first began the series, and it was worth every second of that wait. For me, there really is nothing like the Kristen Ashley reading experience. Hers are the kinds of stories that I get so caught up in that I lose—I lose myself. If you were to look at the home page of my Kindle, you’d find a KA classic in progress. Not a day goes by that I don’t read at least some of her words, whether it’s a scene, a chapter, the whole book or a series binge, I’m always in the midst of re-reading one of my favorites from her.

No one does a closed-off hero quite like Kristen Ashley, and let me tell you, she worked some serious magic when she created Hale Wheeler. He’s battling demons and carries emotional scars of trauma, and he’s trying to steer his way through the complicated world he’s inherited. Then along comes Elsa Cohen, a woman married to her career and anything but closed off. Their attraction was palpable, their connection, instantaneous. Neither one of them is looking for anything, but their chemistry is complicating everything.

Fighting the Pull is a scorching, emotional journey between two beautifully flawed characters. Kristen Ashley’s writing is as captivating as ever, and she penned an emotional rollercoaster filled with suspense, passion and intense love. A wonderful brew of steam, romance and intrigue, KA’s magnetic prose drew me right into the story with a multifaceted plot and a sizzling romance. Enthralling from start to finish, Hale and Elsa’s love story was moving and memorable. Five smooches from me for Fighting the Pull by Kristen Ashley!

EXCERPT:

Goose bumps covered my arms and legs. The air had a chill, but the shiver that raced down my spine wasn’t from the cold. It was from Wilder’s withering gaze.

His eyes were narrowed in a harsh stare. They were intensely dark, like the blackest of coffee, and the same color as his hair. That neatly trimmed beard didn’t disguise the clench of his chiseled jaw.

If there was ever an expression that screamed UNWELCOME, it was all over Wilder Abbott’s face.

Shit. Why was I here? Why on earth did Danny think this would be a good idea?

I squared my shoulders and raised my chin, pretending to be immune to his intimidating glare.

“Hey, Wilder.” I smiled and held out a hand, the stack of mixed metal bracelets on my wrist clinking.

His gaze dropped to my hand, then lifted to my face. The scowl didn’t waver. “Iris Monroe.” A statement now, not the question it had been the first time he’d said it in that gravelly baritone.

“Yes.” I gave him a single nod. “Iris Monroe.”

He scanned me head to toe. When he reached my Gucci Peggy gold platform rainbow sneakers—my happy shoes—his nostrils flared.

Nice. It wasn’t the first time someone from my youth had stared too long and too hard at my tattoos or my hair or my clothes. Considering Wilder was Danny’s best friend, I should have expected this. Yet it pissed me off all the same.

I snapped the fingers of my still outstretched hand. “Now that my identity is no longer in question, are you going to shake my hand or just stand there?”

His jaw ticked again, then his large hand engulfed mine. “Iris Monroe.”

“How many times are you going to say my name, Wilder Abbott?” I asked as he let go of my hand.

Wilder cocked his head to the side.

It was . . . sexy.

Wait. No. Absolutely not. Wilder Abbott was not sexy.

But when his oldest friend calls, begging for a favor, Wilder begrudgingly agrees. For the next two months, he’ll give up his guest room to his friend’s little sister.

Iris Monroe isn’t the girl Wilder remembers. Gone is the shy, quiet mouse ten years his junior who always had her nose in a book. Grown-up Iris talks too much and asks too many questions, especially about his past. And her bright smile and clear blue eyes are hard to ignore.

Two months. He just has to survive two months. Except Iris is as nosy as she is beautiful. And his secrets prove hard to hide when she’s living under his roof.

REVIEW:

The Brood is the sixth book in Devney Perry’s Calamity, Montana series, and her storytelling prowess shines brightly in this age-gap, roommates-to-lovers, forced proximity romance. Perry is known for her Montana-based romances, and her ability to transport her readers to this picturesque state through her vividly descriptive prose. Her natural skill in creating authentic, relatable characters and weaving them into a compelling narrative is one of the reasons I continue to reach for her books.

The characters were very well developed, their chemistry jumps off the pages, and I loved the dynamic between the moody, broody hero, Wilder Abbott, and the bubbly, vivacious social media influencer, Iris Monroe. She is the sunshine to his grump and wants to bring him out of his shell, which he wants no part of it. All of that tension smolders below the surface as their romance builds up, and when it finally ignites in a blazing inferno of feels and fire. Perry’s writing is beautifully evocative, and she captured all of that emotion and passion and drew me right into Iris and Wilder’s romance in a completely engrossing way.

Devney Perry’s The Brood is an utterly addictive age-gap, roommates-to-lovers, forced proximity romance. Perry expertly balanced the multi-trope storyline, using them to add depth and complexity, and created a captivating story in the process. Perfectly paced and engaging from start to finish, this was a total page-turner full of heart and heat. Five smooches from me for The Brood by Devney Perry!
