Synopsis

Welcome to the City, London’s most prestigious square mile, where finance reigns and Oliver King is a rising prince.

I used to rule the world.

There might be wolves on Wall Street, but there were crocodiles in Canary Wharf. Some of us craved money. Some of us craved power.

I liked money, and power had its advantages, but what I really wanted was to excel, to surpass the men who came before me. I never cared much for love and romance until I met Alexis.

I could feel it the very moment she walked into the interview, with her outspoken charm and vivacious personality. She cast all the others in shadow, made me laugh when life held no humour. Our friendship should have remained professional, but it wasn’t long before the lines started to blur.

You know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men? Well, I never foresaw where my plans would lead, and only in my darkest hour did I finally see the light…

You can have all the money and prestige in the world and still be the poorest man alive. And love, well, I hate to use a tired old cliché, but love can be the thing that truly sets you free.

Review

It wasn’t that long ago that I discovered L.H. Cosway.  Immediately her books had me hooked.  Every one of them is so incredibly unique, so astonishingly emotion provoking, so poetically written . The list could go on and and on as her books are in one word;  amazing.  Even though I only recently found this magnificent author, I forged ahead and read everything the woman has written of the adult variety.  I am in love with these books.  All of them have touched a deep part of my heart but something especially beautiful happened when I read King of Hearts.  This book was just EPIC.  I still cannot get this fascinating and marvelous story out of my head.

“Memories were a powerful thing.  They could at once set you free or take you prisoner, hold your entire life captive.”

We get to meet King in Hearts of Fire, the second book in this series, and I was absolutely shocked he got his own book in this series.  Because King in Hearts of Fire is pretty much a homeless drunk who rarely bathes and is very angry at the world.  But King does carry around a very important picture with him everywhere he goes.  This picture is of Alexis and this is their story.

“And I fear if I made you my queen, I could no longer be king.”

Get the tissues ready, guys, because this book takes place before King is a homeless drunkard traveling with circus Spektakular.  Well part one does anyway, so you will watch Oliver King fall so incredibly far and it is such a hard journey.  One that broke my heart so hard.

Do you ever wish, Alexis, that your heart was just that little bit smaller, so that you didn’t have to care quite so much?”

“Never.  The bigger our hearts, the more beautiful our souls.”

But no worries, I will give you one small spoiler and tell you that you will get your HEA.  It is hard won, though.  Just as you are torn down the first part of this story right along with Oliver, you are then built up in the second half so beautifully.  Oh, the feels,  the tears, the absolute happiness and anticipation of what you know is to come.  It was so emotional.

“She was from another life, the one I’d left behind, but having her there, my hands on her skin, made me feel like I was stepping out of this life and into a new one.”

This is so far my number one read this year.  How could it be anything but?  It is brilliantly written, emotional, sexy, and so damn heartwarming.  I simply cannot stop thinking about it and I wish I could give it more than 5 stars.  I would give King of Hearts all of the stars in the sky if I could.

“I dreamt of you last night.”

EXCERPT:

I lean closer and tuck a lock of auburn hair behind her ear. “I know, sweetheart, but I’m trying here. I’m trying to instruct you, and also be a good friend to Hale.”

“What Hale doesn’t know won’t hurt him. We’re both grown-ups, right?”

“Yes.”

“Don’t your lessons usually involve sex?”

“Yes,” I say, unequivocally. Fuck. Yes.

“Well, I want my junk touching your junk. Do you want that too?”

“Yeah,” I choke out. Did she just say junk?

“Okay then, it’s settled. Three lessons. Our genitals will be friends, and that’s it. At the end of it, we part ways.”

That’s what I’m afraid of.

I take a deep breath, steeling my resolve. I have to stick to the terms of our agreement—three lessons. Three opportunities to show Macey who’s in charge. There can be no emotional ties. No, this will be all about the physical.

Even if my heart wanted her at one time, things have changed. My faith in love has been all but obliterated, initially by my own first love, then by watching my parents’ marriage dissolve into a nasty battle. Later it was further damaged by witnessing my best friend’s betrayal by the woman he gave his heart to. I’ve been successful at completely tuning it all out, allowing me to become the man I am today.

The only kind of relationship I want is the kind where naked women trust me with their willing bodies and curious minds. I live for that hazy, disoriented sub-space look in their eyes after a particularly intense scene. The one that tells me they idolize my very existence and will do anything I command. I feel ten feet tall in those moments, like a pure sex god built for doling out pleasure and punishment.

Taking Macey to that place is something I’ve fantasized about, but never thought I’d make a reality. Do I dare go there with the woman who once owned me so completely?

You bet your sweet ass I’m going to. You only live once, right? There’s a saying for this . . . carpe diem or something. Seize the day, I think. Macey is giving me her submission on a silver platter, and what happens behind closed doors will be our business. Hale doesn’t call all the shots, even if he likes to think he does.

Leaning forward with my elbows on the table, I lift my gaze to Macey’s. “What I want, sweetheart is you naked, bound, and spread open before me, your wrists laced together with my rope, your ankles pinned with my spreader bar. Your cunt waiting for me to fill it. You will be used as I see fit. Do you understand?”

Her quick inhalation of breath signals this is an idea she finds appealing, which only excites me more. I have to remind myself to keep detached.

“Will I be gagged?” she asks.

“No.” I smile at her. “You won’t be gagged. I’ll want to hear all the pretty whimpers and cries falling from your mouth.”

“And what about you?” she asks. “Will I be able to touch you? Kiss you?”

My own heart rate spikes despite the calm, cool demeanor I’m struggling to keep in place. “Do you want those things?”

Nodding eagerly, she meets my stare. “I think you know I do.”

“I don’t know you anymore, Macey. You keep forgetting that. You’ve walked back in my life like we can pick up right where we left off, but we’ve both changed.”

She watches me for a few quiet moments, as if she wants to disagree. “You never answered the question.” A smile twitches on her mouth.

“You will touch me when, how, and where I say.” My tone comes out harsher than I intended. Damn, get it together. “And kissing is not something I generally do with my submissives, but given our history, I’ll take it under advisement.”

Fuck, there’s nothing I want more than my mouth on hers.

Review

Sometimes you just want a good love story without the heart breaking ugly cries.  Without committing to reading a million and one books about one couple.  Kendall Ryan is my answer for that.  Her books are always good.  Well written.  They are romances in the truest form.  They make me smile and laugh and have feels without wanting to stay in bed for days crying.  Her books are well done easy reads and I was especially excited for this best friends little sister book.  And it was darn good!

“She’s standing here as if she didn’t shatter my entire world six years ago.”

Macey left 6 years ago to go away to college and never looked back until now.  She is back home after leaving a fledging job and a cheating boyfriend.  She immediately goes to Reece, her older brothers best friend.  She has a past with Reece and wants some good sweaty sex and expects him to deliver.  He is, after all, the owner of Crave, Chicago’s hottest sex club.  But Reece is changed.  He isn’t the same sweet guy she left behind.  He is a Dom and well let’s just say, Macey isn’t the submissive type.

“Goddamn it.  She’s the worst submissive ever.”

This story was really exciting complete with over protective brother Hale that you get to meet and fall in love with in The Gentleman Mentor.  So you get some angst between best friends and the added angst of the second chance romance between Macey and Reece.  I really enjoyed this one!

About the author

Staci

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life — a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can’t forget that. She’s also been a mom; she has three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She’s been a wife; even though she’s certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She’s also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she’s been drinking whiskey. Her favorite word starts with f and ends with k.

From roots in Houston, to a seven year stint in Southern California, Staci and her family ended up settling somewhere in between and equally north, in Denver. They are new enough that snow is still magical. When she’s not writing, she’s sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

Review

“The guy was gorgeous and smart, funny, driven. And with manners. A total catch. If he wasn’t my best friend, I’d be all over that.”

What do you get when you put a ballet dancer, a TA from Columbia with a man bun, a group of too sexy and fun for their own good friends along with a ton of whiskey, sexual tension and some great laugh out loud moments? You get a book you can’t put down! With a Twist is both a light funny book and an angst ridden love triangle all wrapped up together.

“I didn’t choose the hipster life – the hipster life chose me.”

Lily is finally where she wants to be in life, a principle dancer and hooking up with the guy she has had a crush on since high school. Unable to move past the crush she has had for years and see him for what he really is, a douche nugget (Do you hyphen that? I just don’t know) she gives him chance after chance to move past his narcissistic ways. West is the lumbersexual of my dreams with full on man bun and beard. I lust after this man.

“It was her eyes, bright and blue behind thick lashes as she looked up at me, some emotion behind them that I couldn’t place. Something in the pink of her cheeks that whispered a secret that I couldn’t quite hear. I don’t think I could have told you my name in that moment, if you’d asked me.”

West has been best friends with Lily since she moved in Always content with knowing she is out of his league he has settled into the role of BFF. Happily hanging with friends at the local bar and watching episodes of the Bachelor, Lily and West have an easy way with each other always comfortable and content but after watching Lily finally start dating West is suddenly not so content anymore. But is pursuing more with Lily worth risking the perfect friendship they have.

“I want to kiss you until I know the feeling by heart.”

Beautifully written and with a cast full of characters I can’t wait to know more about. Lily and West were utterly wonderful. I cheered for them from the beginning and rejoiced in them by the end. With A Twist is the kind of book that will have you laughing out loud one moment and have you heart clenching the next. I vastly enjoyed this book and look forward to more in the series!

Synopsis

MMA fighters go the distance in this all-new series from Jennifer Snow, author of the Brookhollow novels.

Walker Adams was supposed to follow in his lawyer father’s footsteps, but instead he’s training to be an MMA fighter. And while he works for his chance to make it in the UFC, he’s bunking on his baby sister’s best friend’s couch. Gracie Andrews is all grown up—in all the right places. But she’s engaged to the fight match-maker who holds Walker’s career in his hands…

Gracie had almost convinced herself that she’d put her silly childhood crush on Walker to rest. But the sight of him sleeping in only a pair of boxer briefs makes it clear that some things never change. And as old sparks turn to flames, Gracie is forced to decide between the future she thought she wanted or the man she’s never stopped loving…

Review

I am a sucker for a sports romance and have been on a fighter kick lately so when I say Breaking Her Rules on netgalley I was instantly attracted to the cover and blurb. I love a sweet yet forbidden romance and this one fall under both categories.

Grace has had a crush on her best friend’s older brother ever since she first noticed boys but seeing as how her crush was one sided Grace moves on with her life and gets involved with a powerful man who she works for doing fight promotions.

“All I see if you, Gracie. Just you. When I’m awake, you’re on my mind. When I’m sleeping, it’s you I dream about. And knowing I can’t be with you is driving me crazy.”

Walker has walked away from the easy life handed to him to pursue his dream of being a MMA fighter. When his sister finds out he has been living in his car she calls her best friend, Grace, and ask for him to crash on her couch  for a few weeks while he gets settled. But being in close quarters with the sexy man she has always lusted after makes her doubt all the plans she has for her life including the relationship she has been hoping would become permanent. One major problem, the man she is involved with is also the man who could make or break Walker’s career.

This was a fast and fun read with tons of sexual tension and funny quips at each other. I loved their backstory and how Walker became relentless once he found out about her teenage crush. The one thing I didn’t love is that while there really is no cheating she spends about 70% of this book in a relationship with another man. I would have loved more of them building a foundation together. However, even with this I found Breaking Her Rules to be an easy and enjoyable read and look forward to continuing the series.

Excerpt

“CAN WE STOP by the liquor store on the way to dinner?” Mom asks from the passenger seat of my car.

“Should you be drinking?” I frown then turn onto the main road—well, really the only road in town.

“What’s it going to do, kill me?” she jokes, making me inhale a sharp breath. “Honey,” she says quietly, and I look at her briefly, wondering how the hell she can be so casual about this. “I’m dying. When it will happen, only the good Lord knows, but it is happening, and there is nothing you or I can do about it. I have made my peace with it, and I want you to do the same.” She reaches over to pat my thigh.

“Make peace with it?” I repeat, shaking my head in disbelief.

“Yes, make peace with it. If you think about it, I’m lucky. I know I’m going to die. I know that sooner rather than later God is going to come take me home, and when he does, I will be ready. I will have had a chance to say goodbye to the people I care about and right any wrongs I’ve caused. I’m lucky, honey.”

“What about me?” I wring my hands on the steering wheel, feeling my chest get tight as I fight back tears.

“I love you, honey. I loved you before you were even a sparkle in my eye, and I will always be with you. I know this isn’t easy for you. I know there are going to be a lot of tears shed, but we’re lucky, honey.”

I press my lips together to keep from saying something I might regret. I’m not lucky; in fact, I’m unlucky to the tenth power. How many people have I lost, how many people do I have to loose before it’s enough.

“Oh look! Sheryl!” She yells, pulling me from my thoughts as she reaches over, pressing the horn on my steering wheel while her other hand shoots across me so she can wave out my window. Looking to where she’s waving my heart begins to beat wildly

against my ribcage when I see not Sheryl, but Austin walking into one of the many bars that litter Main Street, only it’s not just Austin—it’s him and a woman with her arm wrapped around the back of his waist as he holds the door open for her.

Even from the distance separating us, my lungs compress at the beauty that is him. The years have been good to him. His hair is still shaggy, only now a little lighter; his face is tan and covered in a beard that makes his crystal blue eyes stand out even more. My eyes travel from his face to his torso, which is covered in a dark green thermal that shows off the muscles of his arms, chest, and tapered waist, then down to his denim-covered thighs. When my gaze sweeps back up, his eyes are on me, and I see them crinkle in confusion then realization that soon turns into anger.

“You missed the liquor store,” my mom complains as I speed up.

Review

“I feel stuck. There is no moving on, because I’m waiting for the inevitable to happen.”

Aurora Rose Reynolds is quickly becoming an author who I would automatically one click even without checking ratings or blurbs. Fighting to Breathe has solidified her into that role for me. Both emotional and sexy, Fighting To Breathe was impossible to put down and I was able to read the entire story in one sitting.

“When I get my hands on you, I’m spanking you for this,” “You’re not.” “Don’t worry babe. I’ll make you come after,”

Returning home to care for her dying mother, Lea Lamb, must finally face the man she left 15 years ago, Wes Wolf. Having broke both his heart and hers she is not welcome home by Wes and others in the town. But even after 15 years apart the feelings Wes and Lea share for one another cannot be denied and soon after spending time together they find themselves wondering if time changes nothing. But deceit and lies lay dormant at the base of all their issues and when things come to life everything they are gets tested.

“I hate that we had fifteen years stolen for us, but know that if things go my way, we’ll have sixty to make up for it.”

Fighting To Breathe was a fast read and a sweet romance with an alpha hero and some very hot sex. Possessive men and timeless romances are a formula that Aurora can’t go wrong with. I can’t wait for more from the people of this small Alaskan town and the people who live there. I will say I did find several mistakes but not so many that it was distracting and since this was an early copy it is possible that they were fixed before release.

Excerpt

“Are you just stupid?” I probably would have gone on, but she wrapped her arms around herself and glared up at me.

“Stop yelling at me!” she screamed.  She turned away, but I saw her reach up with the back of her hand to swoop underneath her eyes.

Shit.

I turned slightly away from her and practically bit down on my tongue to keep myself from saying anything else.  I brought my fisted hands up against my stomach and tried to pull the tension inside of myself, work through it, and calm down.  I could hear her crying combined with choked breaths and sniffles.

“Fuck,” I mumbled under my breath.  I was starting to come off the fighting high I had been on—the tears might have helped with that—and my stomach felt tight.

After three long, deep breaths, I looked back to the girl on the ground and saw her frantically rubbing at her eyes and cheeks.  She didn’t look at me as she reached out and pulled her mostly empty bag close to her.  She looked inside and then looked around her at all her things on the ground.

“Sorry,” I mumbled.  I wasn’t all that great at apologies, and I figured now wasn’t going to be much different.  I’d obviously upset her with all my shitty comments, though.  “I didn’t mean to…I just…”

I stopped talking.  I didn’t know what to say, and I felt bad about yelling at her.  She looked at me all red-eyed with tears staining her cheeks.

“Just don’t do that shit anymore.”  I let out a big sigh.

She nodded once and then reached out to grab something off the ground near her and shoved it back into the bag.  From the amount of stuff scattered all over the street, my estimate on the size of the so-called purse wasn’t too far off.  There was an umbrella, a little flashlight, a bunch of tubes and bottles, and at least a half dozen pens.  As I looked around some more, I saw a small notebook, a paperback book, keys, a bottle of hand lotion that was nowhere near travel sized, a stack of tissues wrapped up in a Ziploc bag, two sets of earbuds, and a checkbook.  There was also a whole pile of ponytail holders, bobby pins, and those little hair-holder-things that looked like teeth.

There was shit from her bag from one side of the fucking street to the other.

She started crawling around, gathering it all up, and cramming it back inside, which gave me a fabulous view of her ass in the short-shorts style waitress uniform the place up the street usually demanded.  I could kind of see how she might have thought she could use the bag as a weapon—there had been more stuff in there than really should have been able to fit.  I looked around on the ground to see if there was an actual kitchen sink, or at least part of one, but I didn’t see anything metal.  There was something that looked like a small rock, though.

“How do you even carry that thing around?” I asked.

“What?”

“That…that purse-bag-thingy there,” I said, pointing and shaking my finger at it.  I wouldn’t have admitted it, but the whole idea of the thing scared me, and I wasn’t sure why.  I felt like if I got too close to it I might get sucked in, never to be seen again.  “It’s insane.”

Her eyes became little slits as she looked up to me.

“There is nothing wrong with my purse!” she growled.

“It’s huge,” I said.

“It has everything I need in it.”

“It has everything you and ten of your friends could need for a week,” I replied with a laugh.  “I know there are people who carry Chihuahuas in their purse, but you could fit a Dane in there.”
