SYNOPSIS:

Fake date. Real trouble. Fall for a new trope-tactic, fake dating rom-com series from USA Today bestselling author, Lila Monroe!

Playboy bachelor Dash (aka Phineas Henry Dashford IV) needs to settle down, and fast – at least that’s what his eccentric grandmother thinks. And since she’s the one controlling his trust fund, he needs the perfect fake date to impress her. Someone sweet, demure, charming… and definitely NOT like the spitfire who almost pulled him in front of a subway train and then dressed him down in front of a million viral video viewers.

Wannabe lipstick mogul, Callie Delgado, needs to find an investor for her makeup line – before her meagre savings run out. Playing girlfriend to a rich trust fund guy? It’s absolutely NOT in her plans, no matter how handsome he is… Until Dash offers to invest in her company in exchange for getting grandma Zelda off his case.

One weekend of (fake) romantic bliss? The challenge is simple. The chemistry between them isn’t.

Soon, Callie and Dash are caught up in the act of a lifetime – and the sparks are anything but make-believe. Can these opposites find a way to attract? Or will a week in Palm Beach, a scheming ex, and a frisky alligator be the formula for trouble?

Find out in another laugh-out-loud Billionaire Bachelor story from “the reigning Queen of romantic comedy” Lila Monroe!

REVIEW:

An enemies-to-lovers, fake date romance full of opposites-attract vibes, Renegade Roomie by Lila Monroe was a quick, devour-it-in-a-day read. Lila’s the queen of the romcom, and this light-hearted sexy romance was heavy on the comedy, high on the heat and an all-around pleasure to read.

Dash, a trust fund billionaire, needs a girlfriend fast. His grandmother, Zelda, thinks it’s high time that Dash settle down, and Dash has to convince her he’s on board with that plan. Enter Callie, who needs funding to get her cosmetics company off the ground. From their meet-rude first encounter through the bickering and squabbling filled weekend at Zelda’s, Dash and Callie’s chemistry burned off the charts. But when the fake starts feeling real, Dash and Callie need to decide if they can make it work or just walk away.

Renegade Roomie was a lot of fun, and it had its fair share of heart-string pulling moments. Plenty of endearing side characters, a sweet and sexy romance, and an amusing trope-tastic storyline, this was a cute, charming and very entertaining way to spend the day. Renegade Roomie by Lila Monroe gets four smooches from me!

EXCERPT:

She sat across from him at his breakfast table in the conservatory, the beams of the sun gilding her hair, her face aimed to the windows, watching the birds at their bath.

He was dressed, but she was wrapped in his dressing gown. It was too big for her. But it was all they had for the now as he refused to button her into a gown she’d worn just the day before. He’d sent word to Corliss to have her maid, her apparel and her toilette directed to his townhome so she could face the day fresh, preparing to do so there.

More importantly, this also meant he got to keep her longer.

“Stop watching me,” she told the window. “It’s ridiculously romantic. I’m melting in a puddle over here.”

He grinned at his coffee cup, his attention remaining on her over the rim as he took a sip.

She turned in the midst of this, watched his actions, and her gaze heated yet again.

“You’re a walking, talking, eating, drinking-coffee, sex-god hero from a romance novel,” she groused.

“I love you think that, though I’m perplexed as to why this seems to put you in a foul mood,” he noted, returning his cup to its saucer.

“I can’t jump you over the table due to your injury, that’s why,” she explained.

He raised a brow. “Did I not prove my creativity this morning?”

“The bit where you were on your knees could have torn your stitches.”

The tone of her response communicated she was now being very serious.

“Again, darling, I’m fine,” he said in the same tone.

“How worried should I be about this bordello woman you’ve angered?” she asked.

And there it was.

“You shouldn’t worry at all.”

“Loren—”

REVIEW:

I’m a huge Kristen Ashley fan, and her Fantasyland series is one of my all-time top favorite series and one that I reread often. I take any chance that I can to slip back into that world, especially on the very rare occasion when new material is offered up for a series that was complete. For us diehard KA fans, Gossamer in the Darkness, a 1001 Dark Nights novella, is a chance to head back to this fantastical world and spend time with these otherworld aristocrats. For a reader new to Kristen Ashley’s Fantasyland world, this is a chance to dip your toe in this parallel universe and get a feel for the vibe of this series and these characters. It’s a chance to test the waters before diving in to read the whole series. Something, by the way, that I wholeheartedly recommend to every romance reader.

Gossamer in the Darkness was richly suspenseful and full of quirky, interesting characters. In the midst of all of this intrigue blossomed a beautiful romance under the most unbelievable of circumstances. It was sexy and romantic, addictive and unputdownable, and for me, it was the chance to return to a favorite series through fresh characters and a new story, and I loved it. Five smooches from me for Gossamer in the Darkness by Kristen Ashley!

Price Crow first saw Sabrina Proctor in the middle of a hurricane…

It’s not every day that you see a dead body at the beach. Or the woman of your dreams sitting next to that dead body.

Price Crow first saw Sabrina Proctor in the middle of a hurricane.

She’d been sitting next to her dead best friend, who’d passed away on the beach, with no way to get her back home, thanks to the world’s worst luck, and one hell of a storm.

So Price does what any decent person would do: he carries Sabrina’s dead best friend to their beach house and doesn’t leave her side until he’s forced to.

He had every intention of bridging that gap, of checking up on her and making sure she was okay, but life is funny and has a way of making a mockery of the best-laid plans.

Despite one hell of a connection, under the worst of circumstances, they go their separate ways. At least, he tries to. But he can’t stop thinking about her, and it becomes apparent, very fast, that he has a decision to make.

EXCERPT:

I swallowed hard. “Do you think you can make it up those stairs?”

There was a long pause and then, “No.”

I felt my heart sink.

I wasn’t super strong.

As in, there was no way I was getting Faye up those stairs on my own.

“I need to call someone for help,” I told her softly. “I won’t be able to do it on my own.”

She mumbled something I couldn’t quite hear, and that’s when I knew that this was going to be worse than I thought.

Like, so much worse.

I started looking around, knowing what I would find.

No one.

It was the peak season. There should be people everywhere, but the hurricane had scared off most renters this week. They were suggesting evacuation, but Faye wanted to see the beach and I was determined to make it happen.

Looking around, I saw no one. There literally wasn’t anyone dumb enough to be there at that moment in time.

Yet, there I was.

I spotted a beach chair leaning against the bottom of the house, along with some sand toys, as well as fishing poles.

“I can get you to a beach chair underneath the house,” I said confidently. “Stay right here. I’ll go get it set up.”

She had no choice.

She practically lay along the stairs, her head resting on the one I’d nearly hit my face on, and lifted two fingers.

She didn’t say a word, though, which scared me even more.

Swallowing past the lump that seemed permanently lodged in my throat, I hurried down the length of the walkway that headed around the house.

There, I spotted more chairs, which included a long lounge chair—one of those zero-gravity chairs—that I knew would work well for Faye.

Getting it set up so that she could see the beach from where I stuck her—where she probably wouldn’t be moving for a while until I could find someone to help me get her up the stairs—I ran back for Faye.

I found her in the same spot, unmoving, staring at the beach through the risers of the stairs.

I had to admit, the place I chose had a beautiful view.

“Ready?” I asked carefully.

Her eyes, dull and lifeless, moved to me.

“I want to feel the sand between my toes,” she whispered.

I felt the tears start to come then. “I’ll get you out there, boo.”

Faye, at hearing my term of endearment for her, smiled.

“Thanks, boo.” She coughed.

I struggled to get her down the length of the house and into the chair that was covered by the floor above. Once she was where I thought best for her, I grabbed a bucket from the kids’ play toys that were lined along the house and walked out to the beach and filled it with sand.

I’d been to the beach before.

It’d always been my favorite place to come.

And knowing that Faye had never been broke my heart.

It broke it even more that she was here and couldn’t enjoy it.

Gathering my bucket of sand, I headed back toward the house, sweating my balls off the entire way.

I did see one lone figure off in the distance while I was out there, though.

Once I had my girl’s toes in the sand, I would be walking down there and seeing if the man was physically fit enough to help me get Faye inside.

Once I had the bucket where I needed it, I twisted both of Faye’s cute little feet off the side of the chair, and then sank them into the sand, covering them up well.

“What do you think?” I asked her.

There was a small smile on her face, but she didn’t open her eyes.

“The best,” she whispered.

I swallowed hard. “Do you think I should contact the hospice here now? Your doctor and my dad seemed to think that it would be best to do it ASAP.”

“I can hear the ocean,” she whispered, ignoring my question. “It sounds spectacular.”

It did.

The waves were roaring today.

There was a rather large disturbance in the gulf that was well on its way to becoming a hurricane. I wasn’t sure when it was going to start becoming typical hurricane weather, but I was bringing Faye to the beach regardless.

They expected it to hit tomorrow. But ahead of it was a lot of wind and a lot of rain.

Which sucked for Faye because that meant that she’d be stuck inside unless she wanted to get wet.

Which I didn’t think was such a good idea.

“I don’t want to call them,” she whispered. “I just want to die, right here, without being poked or prodded.”

The damn tears started again.

“Pull up a chair.” She paused. “Or better yet, pull me out there.”

She opened her eyes for that comment, letting me know with a single look that she was serious.

I groaned. “You know I’m a wimp. How am I supposed to get you out there on my own?”

She just smiled, the smile nowhere near reaching her eyes.

“I don’t want you to go,” I whispered, thinking she couldn’t hear.

But she did. “I don’t want to leave you but… I want to go.”

BLOG TOUR WITH EXCERPT: The Secret by Max Monroe

THE SECRET, a hot and hilarious new workplace romantic comedy from New York Times Bestselling Author Max Monroe, is available now! Scroll down for an excerpt!

My plan? Play the game long enough to win—long enough to walk away with the upper hand—without doing something stupid like falling in love…

Dear Fellow Bookworms,

I need your help.

I, Rachel Rose, am in quite the pickle with a hot-as-sin English Lit professor by the name of Ty Winslow, and I don’t know how to get out of it.

Let me break it down for you:

Girl meets Guy.

Girl gives Guy her underwear on a dare but nothing else identifying (like her name or number) because she plans to never see Guy again.

But Girl does see Guy again, in a very professional setting, where she is to be the Teaching Assistant to his Professor for an entire semester.

Girl would like to ignore all events of the past, but Guy is a whole list of tempting things that are hard to resist. (See below:)

 #1: Insanely attractive.

#2: The most fun a girl could ever have.

#3: Successful and intelligent.

#4: He can quote Walt Whitman at the drop of a hat—which I’m sure you know is a dangerous thing for a literature-lover.

#5: Smooth with a capital S. He could charm the panties off a woman WITHOUT the help of a dare.

And now, Mr. Hot Professor, the man I’m determined to resist, is challenging me to a competition—a playful, secret game, so to speak—where the winner takes all.

My plan? Play the game long enough to win—long enough to walk away with the upper hand—without doing something stupid like falling in love.

It’s possible . . . right?

If you have any advice, please reach out to me soon—before it’s too late.

XOXO,

Rachel

EXCERPT:

TY

I glance pointedly down at the ring—a mood ring—on her right ring finger, and she lets go of my hand like it’s morphed into a scorching hot plate.

Rachel Rose is her. The woman from Orchid.

“What’s your mood tonight?” I asked her.

And she answered with a seductive, “A little wild. A little reckless.”

The conversation I had with her that night replays in my mind, and I know there’s no way in hell I’d get those big green eyes and entrancing lips of hers confused with someone else.

And fuck me, this woman, she’s even more of a goddess than my brain allowed me to remember.

Her skirt, coat, and blouse are classic and professional, but even they can’t hide the mind-blowing curves that lie beneath the material. Her breasts are full, her hips and thighs perfectly rounded, and her legs shapely in a way that reminds me of paintings from the Renaissance.

She is the exact type of curvy that turns me into a fool.

And her face is undeniably beautiful too. More so than the dim lights of Orchid allowed me to see.

“Rachel,” I repeat her name, letting it fall slowly off my tongue. “It’s always good to be able to put a name to a face.”

Her laugh is awkward, but that’s probably because she’s been lying through her pretty little lips ever since we made eye contact. “Well, it’s nice to meet you too, Professor Winslow.”

“Please, Rachel, just call me Ty.”

“O-okay,” she answers and swallows hard against a nervous titter in her throat. “So…uh…what would you like for me to accomplish today?”

How about you acknowledge that you gave me your panties? is the very first thought to come to mind. Is that something you do often? and Or was it just something you did for me? are the second and third.

Thankfully, my brain-to-mouth filter seems to be connected today because no matter what my dick has prepared in its PowerPoint presentation, this is Nate’s daughter.

I can’t go there.

“We’ll keep it laid-back today. I have a folder of information for you. My class schedules, some teaching plans for the semester, that kind of stuff,” I answer, even though everything inside me wants to press her more about that Friday night. I swear, this woman has some balls to just outright deny something we both know is true.

To be honest, in a weird way, I think I might admire her for it.

“Okay, cool,” she answers calmly, but I don’t miss the way her fingers fidget with her coat.

I walk back over to my desk and shuffle through the mess of papers and files to find the stack that’s for her. “I went ahead and compared our schedules. The only class of mine that you’ll be able to attend consistently is my afternoon English 101 class with the freshmen. Though, I’d love to see you fit in a few of my other courses throughout this semester, but not to the detriment of your master’s workload.”

I hand her the thick file, and she takes it with hesitant hands, her eyes acting like my face is the sun and avoiding direct contact for long periods of time is needed for survival.

“This is probably not everything, but it will give you a good start,” I instruct, and for some insane reason, I can’t swipe the smile off my face. There is just something about her and the way she is avoiding the reality of our initial introduction that, the more I think about it, is amusing as hell. “Log-ins for my online drive, my class schedule for the spring semester, some of my teaching plans for English 101, and a few other odds and ends I know will be of use.”

She stares down at the file in her hands. Which I’m guessing has more to do with avoidance than interest, seeing as it’s a plain manila folder. “Great. Thanks.”

“I also think it would be a good idea for us to get to know each other a little better,” I say and lean back against my desk, crossing my arms at my chest. I know I’m putting her on the spot, but I’m so fucking curious if she’s ever going to break from the façade of acting like Orchid never happened, it feels like I have to push. “So, tell me a little bit about yourself, Rachel.”

Her green eyes flicker up and hold, and I know immediately that something has changed. She’s formed a backbone or found her courage or is gearing up to tell me to go fuck myself. Whatever it is, it’s beautiful. “What do you want to know exactly?”

“Just a little about you. What are your greatest passions in literature? Your likes? Dislikes?” And how often do you go to nightclubs and give men your underwear?

She shrugs. Toys with the file in her hands. “Well, I got my bachelor’s at Stanford. Took a few years off to…I don’t know…not focus on my career.” Her laugh is self-deprecating. “And literature, devouring books, writing…I love all of it. Though I’m not certain what I want to do with my master’s, I know it will lead me to where I should be.”

“And what do you do for fun outside of NYU’s campus?”

You bastard. You just can’t help yourself, can you?

“For fun? Off campus?” she questions. “I don’t know. I mean, I just got back to New York, so I’d say that answer is pending.” The hint of a fire blazes behind her eyes, and what leaves her gorgeous mouth doesn’t disappoint. “And personally, I don’t think what I do for fun off campus should be any of your concern.”

I love it. She knows when to put her foot down. Strong, curvaceous, beautiful women are my fucking weakness.

XOXO,

Rachel

REVIEW:

When I need a good laugh, a story I can smile through, something light and fun to read, I reach for a book from Max Monroe. The reigning queens of comedy, this talented author duo’s stories are the reading equivalent of the dream birthday gift, the winning lottery ticket, the spontaneous upgrade to first class on a long flight. Heavy on the heat and humor, there’s plenty of heart in their romances without a lot of weighty angst or unnecessary drama. I’m really enjoying the Winslow Brothers series, and The Secret, the third book in this series of standalones, has been my favorite so far.

The Secret is Ty Winslow’s story. Ty was an easy-to-love hero, and I feel hard for him and his antics. A self-proclaimed avowed bachelor, he’s the carefree, happy-go-lucky, kind of goofy Winslow brother, but his easy charm, magnetic charisma and those devilish good looks combine to create some seriously weak-kneed swooning. Rachel is a struggling writer/grad student who’s just returned to New York City from Los Angeles to take a job at NYU as a teaching assistant while she finishes her master’s degree. She was fierce, she gave as good as she got, and she was whip-smart, independent and determined—I loved her. From their first meeting, the chemistry between them was off the charts, and even the horror of their second meeting didn’t douse that flame. There begins a sexy little game of cat-and-mouse that was the kind of next-level humorous entertainment that I can consistently count on from Max Monroe.

A forbidden, hot-for-teacher, age-gap, workplace romance, The Secret was full of wonderfully witty banter, titillating sexual tension and side-splitting hilarity. An amusing mix of heart-tugging emotion and high-intensity heat fueled the slow build-up of their relationship and made this one heck of an unputdownable, page-turner. I can’t wait for the next book in the series! Five smooches from me for The Secret by Max Monroe!

Two years after his wife’s death, rock star Garrett Hayes hasn’t moved on. But he has moved out of L.A. Where better to escape his past than a small town in the northern California mountains? If only he could get the townsfolk of Wildwood to leave him the hell alone.

Ani Bennet returned to her hometown for some much-needed serenity. The last thing she needs is a grumpy, too hot for his own good, rich and famous rock star living next door—and rent-free in her brain.

She set her fangirl tendencies aside and deleted his photo from her cell when they became neighbors. But when Garrett asks for help, she can’t say no. The problem is, spending time together is making those fangirl feelings resurface—and bringing them to a whole new level.

What chance does a small-town girl have with a world-famous rock star? It’s time for Ani to set her fears aside and find out.

EXCERPT:

My new neighbor arrived at midnight on a Thursday. First came the moving truck, followed by a Jeep Wrangler. Mrs. Cooper, the former owner of the house, passed a while back. A damn shame. The woman was not only nice, but she made biscuits like you wouldn’t believe. For years the grand old Victorian house sat empty at the end of the cul-de-sac. Not unusual for a small town. Few people wanted to move to the middle of nowhere in Northern California, no matter how picturesque it might be. While the place had been sold not long after listing, there’d been no sighting of the new owner until now.

“What the heck?” I mumbled to myself, standing at the window.

Who moved in the middle of the night? It seemed covert and suspicious. Like something a criminal or government agent would do. Although, maybe they just traveled far and this happened to be the time they arrived. But most people would stay at a hotel and wait for daylight to do this sort of thing. Surely.

The only things ever happening at midnight in Wildwood were: 1. Harry, the town drunk, performing Bob Dylan classics in the middle of Main Street. 2. Me, an insomniac, wandering aimlessly around my house. That was it. Everyone else in the whole wide world—or our corner of it—was fast asleep.

Half hidden behind a curtain, I watched the truck being unloaded. A full moon shone down through the pine trees as the moving men hauled stuff inside. The first guy, the one who drove the Jeep, went straight into the house. He was tall and wore a ball cap. That was about all I could see. Maybe he was setting the place up for his wife and family. Maybe he had a boyfriend. He couldn’t possibly be single, heterosexual, under sixty, and emotionally mature. My luck just wasn’t that good. Not that I intended to date again in this lifetime.

Whoever he was and whatever he was doing, it would all be known in due course. Such was the joy of small-town life.

Once the furniture was moved inside, things got a little dull. There’s not much you can tell about a person from their boxes.

I took the opportunity to once again check the locks on all my windows and doors. After that, I made a cup of chamomile tea. Neither of these things helped me sleep, but the rituals were soothing. Mom always said I had a busy mind. I didn’t necessarily think about anything useful, I just thought a lot. At night, I tended to think about books, bad memories, and ex-boyfriends. The last two were often one and the same.

As a child, I was the daydreamer who got busted humming in class when everyone else was concentrating. (Like anybody actually needed algebra. If you can work out the discount at a sale, you’re good to go. Then again, this attitude might explain why my life had gone approximately nowhere.)

I returned to the window just in time to see my mystery man reappear. The new neighbor strode out to the Jeep and opened up the back. When he once more headed toward the house, the ball cap was gone and his short hair was on display. In each hand he carried a guitar case.

I perked up. Musicians were cool. Unless he owned electric guitars and believed in turning the volume up to eleven. That could get old fast.

As he got closer to the house, the porchlight hit him and…huh. Something about his profile tugged at a memory.

Guess he felt my gaze, because he turned toward my place. And whoa. His lips were a thin line, his jaw set to cranky, and none of it mattered—the man was beautiful. Though he really was strangely familiar.

Meanwhile, with only a lamp on behind me, I couldn’t have been more than an outline. A shadowy person lurking in the dark. Great. Nothing like being spied on to make you feel welcome in your new neighborhood. So much better than a casserole or cookies.

Wait! I knew where I recognized him from. Only it couldn’t be, because that would be crazy. Absolutely fucking wild. Yet there he stood.

“Holy shit,” I whispered.

My new neighbor was a goddamn rock star.

REVIEW:

There are certain types of stories that as readers, especially romance readers, we associate with certain authors. For me, Kylie Scott’s rock star romances are the bar that I measure all other rocker romances against. That’s not to say that I haven’t read some truly fantastic ones over the 15 plus years I’ve been reading, reviewing and blogging about romance, because I definitely have. But it’s Kylie who comes to my mind first when I think of them, and I believe that’s a testament to just how memorable those fantastic stories were. It’s one of the reasons I was so excited to read Famous in a Small Town – I knew straight off the bat that it was going to be something special and memorable, and I wasn’t wrong.

Garrett and Ani’s grumpy meets sunshine romance is set in the small town of Wildwood, California. Scott brings this quirky little northern California small town to life on the page through descriptive details and a wonderful cast of well-intentioned but occasionally meddlesome side characters. Thirty year old Ani is back in her hometown after living in LA for years and has a few of her own demons to battle. She’s working in the general store, and although she’s a bit broken from her time in LA, she’s mostly slid back into the peaceful, easy lifestyle of Wildwood. That is until the rock star of her dreams moves in next door. Garrett is moody, broody and just wants to be left to his grief as he mourns the loss of his wife. He left the big city, bright lights life and his band behind, and he doesn’t want a big community of friendly, caring folks looking out for him, and he definitely doesn’t want any kind of relationship with a woman. Unfortunately for Garrett, I think the Rolling Stones put it best when they advised that “you can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, well, you might find you get what you need.”

Famous in a Small Town was a flirty, feel-good second-chance romance that I devoured in a single sitting. A slow-burning, small town love story that was full of feels, humor and healing. I loved this story, I loved this world, and I’m hoping that Kylie will take us back there in the near future with Garrett’s bandmates’ stories. Five smooches from me for Famous in a Small Town by Kylie Scott!
