A dark past. A smile that hides everything. At nineteen, Rae Grove escapes her disaster life by pretending to be other people—specifically, whoever the man paying her that night wants her to be.

Until she’s offered enough money for a one-way ticket to a better life. All she has to do is fly to Paris and pretend to be the fiancé of young business tycoon Cohen Ashworth for one month. Within an hour of meeting Cohen, Rae knows three things about him:

1. He hates everyone and everything.

2. He has abundant wit and a knife-sharp tongue.

3. He uses 2 to make everyone aware of 1.

Teaser:

“So you want me to change.” His jaw is taut.

“You need to change, or you’re not going to get what you want.” He needs to hear it. “And you’re going to be miserable your whole life—”

“I don’t know how to change!” he says loudly.

I stop, half-expecting the divider separating us from the driver to roll down, but it doesn’t. We’re still alone in the backseat. I should be afraid, I should be recoiling the way I do whenever a man raises his voice to me. But when I reach for the fear, I don’t find it.

All I find is…pity?

“I know what I am. What I’m like.” His voice cracks, just slightly, but he masters it. “If I could be different, I would. Do you understand that? I’m not like you. I can’t slip on someone else’s persona like changing my clothes.”

That stupid twinge of pity turns into a full-fledged needle. I’m very familiar with that shadow in his voice, because it’s been in my heart for years. Self-loathing. At least I can escape myself by being other people. He doesn’t even have that luxury.

Stop it, Rae. Don’t you dare feel sorry for him. He has everything you’ve ever wanted, remember?

“That’s bullshit,” I say bluntly. “You can change. Anyone can change. No matter how long they’ve been…bad. No matter what their past is like.”

I have to believe that.

“Show me.”

“What?”

He turns his full gaze directly on me, and I lose myself for a brief second in those ice eyes. “Show me how to be someone else. You do it so easily. You’re getting paid enough, I might as well get some use out of you.”

“You mean like…give you nice lessons?”

He grimaces. “I’d rather we didn’t call it that.”

“Well…” I hesitate.

“Please,” he says emotionlessly. And if I had to bet on it, I’d say it was damn near the first time that word had passed through those perfect lips.

“I have you in the palm of my hands,” he whispered softly and leaned toward me.

“What do you mean by that?” I whispered back at him, my stomach jumping as his fingers brushed my wet hair away from my face.

“Nothing.” He shook his head. “I’m just saying, I could do what I wanted to you right now, but all I’m doing is saving you. I hope you’ll trust me after this.”

“Untie me and I’ll trust you.” I nodded, unblinking.

“Can I get a kiss as well?” His eyes sparkled as his lips came dangerously close to mine.

“What?” I closed my eyes and waited to feel his lips on mine.

“Open your eyes, Bianca.” He whispered against my lips. I could feel his breath gliding over my skin as I opened my eyes slowly. I swallowed hard as I stared up at him.

Synopsis

Indie sensation and New York Times bestselling author of the Ex Games series and the Private Club series, J.S. Cooper introduces the Swept Away series—three new, dark and sexy romances about a woman marooned on a desert island with a mysterious stranger—but is he friend or foe?

The day started like every other day…

Bianca London finds herself kidnapped and locked up in a van with a strange man. Ten hours later, they’re dumped on a deserted island. Bianca has no idea what’s going on and her attraction to this stranger is the only thing keeping her fear at bay.

Jakob wants only to figure out why they’ve been left on the island and how they can get off. But as the days go by, he can’t ignore his growing fascination with Bianca.

In order to survive, Bianca and Jakob must figure out how they’re connected, but as they grow closer, secrets are revealed that may destroy everything they thought they knew about each other.

Review

Bianca London is an average girl who is seeking the truth about her mother’s death, a death she only found out may not be as innocent as it seemed. Bianca’s father was an inventor who died a year before and left in his wake a disturbing realization to Bianca that her life may not have been as she thought. But when Bianca starts to investigate the death of her mother and the company her father worked for, strange things begin to happen. She senses people are following her, begins receiving strange notes…and then she finds herself kidnapped.

Jacob is tall, dark, devastatingly handsome and filthy rich. After he finds himself kidnapped, he assumes they just want money, but when he realizes he’s not alone, he needs to find out the truth and connections between him and Bianca.

Do they trust each other? Is it just coincidence that they’re together? Or are they enemies that need to fear one another?

Suspense, mystery, excitement, fear, romance, sex?…You got it all with J S Cooper’s Illusion! It took me a chapter or two to get into this, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down! I was enthralled with the plot and felt the fear and determination of both Bianca and Jacob as they were kidnapped and left deserted on the island to fend for themselves and find the truth. I felt their need to care and protect for each other and my heart went out to both of them. I also found myself wondering what was going to happen next and trying to figure out who the true enemy was; continually questioning Jacob and Bianca’s motives and their next move. Who should you trust?

You won’t be let down! I cannot wait until the second book comes out to find out what happens next!!!

About BURYING WATER:

The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.

Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?

Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.

The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.

Falling Away by Penelope Douglas Review

Synopsis

Jaxon is the guy she’s supposed to avoid.

K.C. is the girl he won’t let get away….

K. C. Carter has always followed the rules—until this year, when a mistake leaves her the talk of her college campus and her carefully arranged life comes crashing to a halt. Now she’s stuck in her small hometown for the summer to complete her court-ordered community service, and to make matters worse, trouble is living right next door.

Jaxon Trent is the worst kind of temptation and exactly what K.C. was supposed to stay away from in high school. But he never forgot her. She was the one girl who wouldn’t give him the time of day and the only one to ever say no. Fate has brought K.C. back into his life—except what he thought was a great twist of luck turns out to be too close for comfort. As the bond between them grows, he discovers that convincing K.C. to get out from her mother’s shadow is hard, but revealing the darkest parts of his soul is nearly impossible.…

Review

“Don’t worry, K.C.. I’m well aware your pussy is too precious for me, okay?”

OMG! How do I write this review. Penelope has yet to do any wrong for me! I love her writing, her stories but most of all I love her characters. She knows how to develop characters you love, ones you hate and ones you love to hate. But more than that she knows how to show growth within them in the short span of a book to the point that people you thought you could never even like you end up completely loving. For me personally, she has a mind like no other and I will forever devour anything she writes!

fa2

I have been waiting for Jax and K.C.’s story since I got a first good glance at their interaction in Until You. I just knew with Jax’s tragic past and K.C.’s upper crust upbringing that it was going to be oh so juicy, not to mention with the tempers and mouths on these two that it would be very very HOT! And truth , it was!

fa4

Much like his half brother, Jared, Jax pushes the one he wants away. He knows she is too good for him but just can’t hold back on how much he wants her. Much like many of Penelope’s characters, Jax and K.C both come with a tragic back story that breaks your heart and makes you want to hurt those who have hurt them. I went into Falling away knowing some of Jax’s story and understanding how that had formed him into the man/teen boy who would sleep around and live life on the edge. I knew he would break my heart and make it a slow heal. What I wasn’t expecting is all that K.C has dealt with. She puts on an amazing front but she is truly a broken little girl who desperately need love.

“Bite me, hit me, scream at me, I don’t care. I want to feel it. Fucking hurt me, K.C. Let me see you.”

Once Jax gets a taste of the real K.C., the girl hiding behind the front he is done. He has to have her, help her, heal her. While he can be crass and harsh to her he doesn’t hide from her let her hid from him. Boy did I love him. All of this and he is a year younger than her. (Have I mentioned that I love that he is both younger and most definitely an in control man all at once)

fa3

Now K.C., while she was nothing like I expected I had no problem loving and understanding her. The book starts off with K.C. coming home from school after having been ARRESTED! I know was not expecting that! She is staying at Tate’s and of course Jax is at Jared’s house. These two have chemistry from the moment they are in the same room and all you want is more of them interacting, more of them fighting, more of just them. Watching K.C. spend the summer discovering herself and who she is separate from her family and expectations was great and watching Jax help her do this while she helps mold Jax from the rebellious teenager he is into the man he is meant to be was a wonderful story that I was sad to end. I never want Penelope’s books to be done. I want to live in side her head!

fa1

Angst, what is a good new adult book without it! Penelope Douglas does teen angst like no other. You become so wrapped up in that tale she has weaved that it is literally like a movie playing in your head. Shed writes tragic characters coming into their own with a power and force. On top of all that this book was so sexy, probably the sexiest book in the series yet. I could not put it down and am defineately looking forward to a re-read in the future!

“Jax? I’m not a doll, I won’t break, so don’t hold back, I’m ready.”

~miranda

“You’re so wet for me, K.C. Gutless, helpless, and a fucking liar, too.”

“Do me a favor, would you? The watermelon juice spilling over your lip? Lick it up or I will.”

“Not a damn thing has changed. And yet everything had changed. While I was away Jaxon Trent had become a man.”

“I wanted to make you come so hard that you’d lose that little sneer on your face forever, I wanted to taste how wet you were for me. I wanted you underneath me, writhing and sweaty and begging. I wanted your mouth on mine, and your legs wrapped around my waist. Man I wanted you, K.C.I wanted to undo you. I wanted to dirty you up”

Excerpt

His hand closes over mine, and I tremble with anticipation. I draw my hand away, then close my eyes, more than willing to let him undress me.

Except he doesn’t.

I stand for a moment, confused and disoriented, then open my eyes to find him looking at me. I see the desire on his face, as vibrant and wild as my own need. And yet he makes no move to touch me again. On the contrary, he takes a single step back, his eyes never leaving mine.

He is denying us both, and that simple fact both pisses me off and turns me on.

I gather self-control around me like a cloak, then lift an eyebrow. “Playing games, Mr. Stark?”

“Absolutely,” he says with a wicked grin. “And just in case you’ve forgotten, I don’t play if I can’t win.”

“Really?” I say, enjoying myself. “And what’s the prize?”

He steps closer, still not touching me, but so close that I can hear my own heartbeat echoing against the hard breadth of his chest. “You are.”

My heart flutters in my chest. Even now—even married—he makes me feel as deliciously alive as I did the first time he touched me. “In that case,” I whisper, the words thick with the weight of truth, “you’ve already won.”

Check out our 4 Smooches Review HERE!

As what’s her name sat in my lap and whispered in my ear that she’d like to go somewhere more private, something smacked the back of my head.

“What the…” My lap dog slid off me as I stood and spun around to see what hit me. And that’s when I laid eyes on the audacious Sophia Marie Campbell.

“Oh, my God! I’m so sorry!” she groaned as she bent down and picked up the ball.

I was speechless. She was a wet dream in a red bikini with long blonde hair and legs that went for miles. My eyes immediately fell to her chest when she stood back up, ball tucked under one slim, but toned arm.

“Are you okay?” She gazed at me, concern in her eyes. Everything was stunning about her. Her eyes, her body, her boobs. Her boobs. “Uh, yeah. I—”

“That hit to your head must’ve messed with your vision. My eyes are up here,” she interrupted me, bending down slightly trying to meet my gaze with hers.

“Busted!” Ryan laughed from behind me. My gaze snapped to hers and I mumbled some sort of excuse, but was saved by Jake.

“You’ve got quite the arm,” Jake noted as he approached us, and I could tell he was scanning her body from behind his sunglasses. My teeth clenched at the thought.

“Yeah, just poor aim,” she laughed.

“Sophia!” One of her friends called from the volleyball net and she turned.

“Be right there,” she yelled back before returning her focus to me. “Seriously, I’m really sorry.”

“No worries.” I rubbed the back of my head and shrugged. My mind fumbled for something witty and clever to say to make her laugh again, but her presence overwhelmed me. Most girls went into flirt mode when they were around me, batting eye lashes, biting their lower lips, twirling their hair. Not this girl. With that, she gave a slight nod and spun around to head back toward her friends. I couldn’t let her go. I had to think of some way to speak with her. There were guys playing with her. Could one of them be her boyfriend? Did I care?

“Aw, shit.” I shook my head and took off after her. “Where you going, Brandon?” Ryan shouted, but I didn’t answer. Every one of my bodily senses honed in on the beautiful bronzed blonde running away from me.

“Hey,” I yelled catching her off guard as she spun around. “Yeah?” Her eyes were big and brown, almost exotic-looking when paired with her blonde hair.

“Um, I was wondering if…” I hesitated. When I was chasing her, asking her out didn’t seem like a big deal, but facing her, staring into those beautiful eyes, I wasn’t ready to take the chance she’d say no. “Do you guys need another player?” She bounced on her feet for a moment and spun the volleyball between her hands, running her eyes up and down my body as if sizing me up. “You sure you can hang with us?” she challenged with one eyebrow quirked.

“Yeah. I’m pretty good,” I lied. What the hell am I saying? I suck at volleyball! Truth was, I’d maybe played five times my entire life, but those games went pretty well so I convinced myself I could easily play with a bunch of girls and a few guys.

“Okay.” She grinned, a playfulness lurking in her eyes. “Let’s see what you got.” When we reached the sandpit where everyone was waiting for her to return with the ball she motioned to me. “Guys, this is…” Her last word trailed off and she turned to me, biting her lip. “I’m so rude. I didn’t even ask your name and I hit you in the head with a ball.”

“Brandon.”

“Everyone this is Brandon,” she yelled and ran across the pit to her spot, kicking up sand. “Can you play setter?” “Uh, sure.” I shrugged and took the only empty spot I saw, hoping it was where I needed to be. I was glad asking to play didn’t backfire and she included me, but I was disappointed when we weren’t beside each other.

The game pressed on and the other side immediately gained five points on us. No one on our team outright blamed me, but I could tell the general consensus was—it was my fault. I had a hard time staying in the game because I was too busy trying to catch glimpses of her. I finally snapped to as the ball was flying over the net, and I lunged toward it only to collide head on with Sophia. We both crashed to the ground, tangled in one another, the ball landing right beside us.

“Game!” one of the girls from the other side squealed and everyone on our side groaned.

“Are you okay? I’m so sorry,” I apologized frantically. Nice move dumbass, you just physically crushed the girl you have the hots for.

Rubbing her head where it hit mine, she asked, “So, you don’t really play, do you?” She laughed as she pushed up with her hands. Sand coated most of her, like sugar against her tan skin, and it looked sexy as hell.

“That obvious?” I questioned shaking my head, humiliation surging through me.

“I’m Sophia, by the way.” She grinned as she hopped up and reached a hand down for me.

“That’s a pretty name.” I took her hand and let her help me up.

“We should go rinse off.” She held on to my hand and pulled me toward the water with her. “I guess now were even, huh?”

“Even?” I questioned unsure of what she was talking about.

“Yeah. I hit you with a ball and you nailed me to the ground. We’re even.”

The douchebag in me wanted to say something like, do you like to be nailed to the ground, but I refrained. This girl was different. I had no idea what it was about her I found so alluring, but I was hooked.

“Yeah, I guess so.” We waded into the freezing cold lake, until we were waist deep when we both started splashing water, rinsing our skin. My mind wandered to devious places as I imagined her naked and wet, moaning my name as I thrust inside her. I sank into the water planting my ass to the mush bottom, to hide the hard on I was getting.

“I think your girlfriend is waiting on you.” She nodded to the shoreline where what’s her name stood with one of her friends, trying not to look obvious as she casually glanced our way while they spoke.

“That’s not my girlfriend,” I clarified a little too enthusiastically.

“Oh. Guess you just let anybody sit on your lap, huh?” She smirked at me and I cursed to myself. Of course she would think I was just some player after seeing me with a random girl on my lap.

I had to change the subject and fast. “Do you go to Alabama?”

“Yeah. Business. It’s my last year. You?” She pulled a hair tie off her wrist and began pulling her hair up, extending her torso, which only exemplified her tiny defined body. Damn, I was a goner.

“Biology. It’s my last year, too. I’ll go for my masters after this.”

“Oh, wow. You’re smart.” Her eyebrows rose as if she was surprised. She wasn’t the first person I ever told my major to that seemed shocked. I didn’t exactly fit the nerdy scientist bill.

“Not what you expected?” I smirked.

“You don’t quite strike me as a biologist, but what do I know?” She shrugged and began wading out of the water toward the shore. Panic flooded me. I had to keep her here. Here, we were away from everyone and I could speak with her, but up there she would surely go her way and I’d be forced to go mine. This could be my only chance to ask her out.

“What do you do besides school?” I blurted. Lame question, I know, but I was desperate.

Sophia stopped and turned slowly, facing me, squinting as if she were trying to determine something about me. With a sly grin, she said, “Go on then. Do it.” She gave me a pointed look and crossed her arms.

“Do what?” I stammered wondering if I had been that obvious. Did she know I wanted to ask her out?

“You’re going to ask me out, right? Or at least you want to.” Yep, she knows. Dear God this woman is a ball buster. All of the blood drained from my face. There was no more pretending. This girl didn’t waste any time. My heart pounded in my chest. What the hell is wrong with me? Why am I acting like such a pussy?

Before I could come up with some coherent response she said, “I tell you what. You seem to be a little…” She paused and looked to the sky as if waiting for her next word to fall from it.

“Confused.” She finished as she put her hands on her hips. “Maybe that ball hit you a little harder on your head than I thought. When you think of what you want to say, I bartend over at Bradley’s just outside of campus. Maybe I’ll see you in there sometime.” With that, she rushed out of the water and back to her friends.

With a heavy sigh I made my way back to shore. I knew deep down I acted like an idiot in front of her and she probably thought I was an ass, but I knew one thing for sure. Sophia would be mine.

“Well, that was…” Jake let his last word trail off.

“Pathetic.” Ryan finished for him, laughing.

“What?” I shrugged as if I had no idea what they were talking about.

“First, you practically latched on to her leg and started dry humping her,” Ryan noted before chugging the remainder of his beer.

“You looked like a jackass out there playing volleyball. They must all play for the school or something. They were good,” Jake added, and I rolled my eyes.

“I wasn’t that bad,” I grimaced.

“Brandon.” Ryan said my name as he stared at me blankly.

“You sucked dick man. It was bad. You fucking head-butted her.”

I squeezed my eyes shut. “Shit,” I breathed. It was bad.

She enjoys shopping (way too much) and is on a first name basis with several employees at the local Target in her town.

She loves music,(bluegrass, country, 80’s, actually she loves most music ~her favorite song is American Pie by Don McLean and she worships anything that is Elvis and Johnny Cash and Eric Church) dancing, (even though she sucks at it)reading, writing, eating (too much) sleeping late, (which she rarely gets to do) and laughing. If you can make her laugh, she will love you forever.

Review

Wrecking Ball is a beautiful short read about a wife and husband that have a hurdle in their marriage and need to find out if there will allow it to be the end all for their marriage.

Sophia and Brandon Dalton are married with two daughters. Brandon is a professor at a University, while Sophia takes care of the home. But before these two were the American Dream, these two had a steamy relationship. The description for their sex life by Sophia is “comfortable” and when she tells this to her sister, Tia, she remembers a time when Brandon and Sophia were crazy passionate. Meeting in college, Brandon had to chase Sophia. Brandon knew she was something special. She thought he was an arrogant guy that had never been told no. Brandon felt an instant attraction towards Sophia. The banter between both characters depicted the chemistry.

Wrecking ball isn’t just a love story. It takes you on journey of how these two had met, fell in love, and work on their marriage.  Sophia is a very relatable character. As a mother and a wife, I could see myself in her shoes. We, as mothers, tend to put our children and husband before our needs. Her husband persevered in his dreams of tenure but at that he lost his wife in the processes. Sophia with the help of her sister Tia, was able to find the “old” Sophia and it’s in that her husband was able to rekindle their love. Writing style was good, flashbacks were of good quantity. There was a shocking part in the book. But it just emphasized that love is beautiful and don’t take it for granted. Once you find that love, hold on to it because it can be taken from you. I will recommend this book to my girlfriends. 4 smooches for Wrecking Ball.

They call me the Femme Fatale.

But only because they don’t know me.

My job – seduce men to the climatic point of falling in love with me and then deliver their death sentence.

I work for my father’s business. I’m his secret weapon. I’m the one that gets away with murder.

For years, I’ve given in to my father’s demands, lived the life of a mob princess, fell into this merciless realm where he presents me with a man and one goal – to kill.

When it’s to keep the Abbiati name from ruins, I’ll run with the wolves and protect it fiercely.

However, when he brings a new name to the table, I know my newest mission could well be the one that breaks me – Don’t feel, don’t deviate, kill Zane Maverick.

It should be simple, but how am I supposed to choose between the man who raised me to be this heartlessly strong female and the man I could only ever love to death?

“You’re fucking insane,” I cuss at him and push him away but his stance is too heavy, and he doesn’t budge.

“I know you, Amelia. I know how you loved him once. You’re so fickle as it is, why wouldn’t you be fucking him to bide some time. The way you walk around here like you’re queen bee too, sickens me. You will never run this place, and soon, everyone will look down on you like me and Papà do. Everyone sees this strong, beautiful woman, but maybe we should let them see the real you. The weak victim you hide from everyone.” He leans in close to me to a suffocating degree. “What would happen if I were to run this down your face?” he asks and presents his infamous switchblade. The knife shoots from its hilt, the light glistening from its metal edge. “I didn’t get you a gift, but I have a perfect one for you now,” he says and begins to lower it to my face. “A scar right down your face would be a perfect reminder to keep you in line. Even Maverick wouldn’t want a butchered bitch.”

I close my eyes as I prepare for that piercing bite on my skin, but Giovanni’s weight suddenly disappears, and I’m left cowering to an empty space. Once I pry them open, I see why. Bruno has arrived and has Giovanni thrown over the pool table by the collar of his shirt and blazer.

“You are one sadistic bastard, Giovanni,” Bruno spits and releases Giovanni enough to allow him to turn to face his brother. “I knew there was reason I fucking despised you. If I didn’t have cause before, what I just witnessed was a real clincher.”

“Get the fuck away from me,” Giovanni grunts, straightening his shirt and jacket back.

That ignites more hate in my brother. “One day you are going to wake up with your balls shoved down your throat, Gio.” Bruno terrorizes Giovanni while we all stand and watch. Bruno towers over our brother when he is riled up, and I have to admit, that look of fear on Giovanni’s face is too fucking good to miss. “And I’ll be the one holding the knife. Threaten our little sister again, and I will make your biggest nightmares come true. Capisci?”

Clapping resounds after Bruno’s warning, and we all turn to see our father standing in the doorway. I sense Giovanni stand up, straightening himself and regaining his composure.

“I knew you still had that Abbiati fight still left in you, Figlio Mio.”

“Cut the fatherly duty, Salvatore. I am far from your son.” Bruno’s demeanor doesn’t relinquish its hardened stance. If anything, our father’s sudden appearance only bristles Bruno furthermore. “I’m here to celebrate my sister’s birthday, not tear away psychopaths from permanently scarring her.”

I used to be just another Fanfiction writer! That was until one person showed real interest in my work. And then another, and then another, until I had this whole group of people reviewing like crazy and wanting original work from me. I’d spent years writing for free online, I didn’t believe I had it in me to publish something!

But I’m glad I did!! I never imagined pushing my work and striving to reach my ultimate. I never imagined I’d be the girl who started The Viper Rooms! But who am I to deny the inspiration when it hits?

I love writing, it’s a lifeline. I love creating a world that others fall into. I love having the control to make a whole new world. It’s like a dependency, an addictive one. It’s one of the things I’m extremely proud of.

As much as I complain, I love the mini dialogues that go on in my head, the plotlines that attack me when I least expect them to. The ones that jump to life at the most inappropriate times and drive me totally crazy!!

For now I split my life between writing, dreaming, working, and volunteering with children.
