Series: Fighting #4
Author: JB Salsbury
Cover Design: Pixel Mischief Design
 Release Date: November 4, 2014

Synopsis

The toughest fighters aren’t created in the octagon but are born of necessity. When life delivers blow after punishing blow, you fight back or get destroyed.

Eve Dawson has had her fill of bad luck. A string of unhealthy relationships has left her angry, bitter, and frustrated. She’s given up on being happy and settles for content. Swearing off men, she repels advances and makes herself a challenge to even the most persistent suitors. After all, how much can the fragile human heart take? But life isn’t finished with her, and when things can’t possibly get worse . . . they do.

Stay on your feet.

It’s Cameron Kyle’s motto, but with his fighting career ripped from his grasp, a child he wasn’t strong enough to save, and a marriage that even the brawn of a heavyweight couldn’t hold together, it’s getting harder and harder to stay upright. He takes on the position of CEO of the UFL, intent on hiding his biggest weakness in order to forge a path that leads him back into the octagon.

When an old rival mysteriously gets wind of Cameron’s plan to fight again, he comes out of retirement to settle old debts, but secrets, lies, and betrayal threaten to deliver the death-blow. The distraction of a sass-mouthed girl seventeen years his junior is the last thing he needs until a tragic accident shatters the firm foundation of his resolve and he realizes just how far he’s fallen.

Will they risk it all and fight to be together? Or does defeat lie within the fall?

I feel his eyes on me, and when I turn I almost recoil at the intensity behind his stare. “Can you stop acting like we’re two old friends shooting the shit when you know good and fucking well you’re thinking the same thing I am.”
My mouth falls open and I force it shut, only to have it drop open again.
“I’ve hand my hands and my mouth all over every inch of that gorgeous body, Eve. You think I can’t read you? Know what you’re thinking about right now?”
I swallow hard. “What am I thinking about?”
“Same thing I am.”

EXCERPT:

That’s how I spot her.

There’s no doubt that it’s her; I’ve memorized her face.

Leaning against a wall on the opposite side, her lips wrapped around a clear bottle filled with clear liquor, her fiery red hair a wild mane against the stark white wall, a tight black T-shirt showing off toned arms. She’s in no rush to part with that bottle, guzzling back a good portion before she hands it off to someone, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.

Her eyes at half-mast.

She’s wasted.

My heart starts racing. What the hell is Kacey Cleary doing here? By my calculation, she’s probably finishing her last year of high school, having lost at least half a year while recovering.

I tug my cap down even farther, though I doubt she can see two feet in front of her.

  1. What if she does recognize me? How would she react? Does she know my real name? What I look like? I can’t say for sure that my face wasn’t printed in a newspaper somewhere. She could have Googled my name and found a dozen game shots with me in them. I have my helmet on in most of them, but you can find a profile picture of me easily enough if you’re looking.

I don’t know that she was, though. I wonder if Kacey Cleary gives a fuck about anything anymore. Her Facebook account is inactive. She hasn’t posted a single word and the well-wishes have dwindled, as everyone moves on.

I do know that she shouldn’t be at a party in this state. I’ve heard of bad things happening when girls get that drunk. Especially when they don’t care.

But what do I do?

A blonde stumbles into my chest with two beers in hand. “Hey, do you go here? What’s your name?” She’s tipping her head back way farther than necessary to look up at me, telling me she’s trying to flirt but is too drunk to do it right.

I smile down at her anyway. She’s a good cover. I can stand right here and watch Kacey. “I’m Trent, and I used to go here.”

“Really? When’d you graduate?”

From the corner of my eye, I see Kacey shift from the wall and begin climbing the stairs, her arm hooked around the railing to help her. Two guys following her.

About IN HER WAKE:

Cole Reynolds had it all. And then one night he makes a bad choice… and loses everything.

When a drunken night out at a Michigan State college party results in the death of six people, Cole must come to terms with his part in the tragedy. Normally, he’d be able to lean on his best friends. The best friends that have been in his life since he could barely walk. Only, they’re gone. Worse, there’s the shattered body of a sixteen-year-old girl lying somewhere in a hospital bed, her entire life ripped from her because of a case of beer and a set of keys.

Everyone assures him that they know it wasn’t intentional and yet he can’t ignore the weight of their gazes, the whispers behind his back. The all-consuming guilt he feels every time he thinks of that girl who won’t so much as allow him near her hospital room to apologize. As the months go by and the shame and loneliness festers, Cole begins to lose his grip of what once was important-college, his girlfriend, his future. His life. It’s not until Cole hits rock-bottom that he can begin to see another way out of his personal hell: forgiveness.

And there’s only one person who can give that to him…

Synopsis

Before you knew him as Trent in Ten Tiny Breaths, he was Cole Reynolds—and he had it all. Until one night when he makes a fatal, wrong decision…and loses everything.

When a drunken night out at a Michigan State college party results in the death of six people, Cole must come to terms with his part in the tragedy. Normally, he’d be able to lean on his best friends—the ones who have been in his life since he could barely walk. Only, they’re gone. Everyone assures him that they know it wasn’t intentional, and yet he can’t ignore the weight of their gazes, the whispers behind his back. Nor can he shake the all-consuming guilt he feels every time he thinks of that girl who won’t so much as allow him near her hospital room to apologize. As the months go by and the shame and loneliness festers, Cole begins to lose his grip on what once was important—college, his girlfriend, his future. His life. Review

“The crushing pain in my chest now has little to do with my injuries. And it’s suffocating me.”

This book was a hard one to read and this review is just as hard to write. How does one rate something like this? As always KA Tucker’s writing is flawless and she captivated me right away. Having read Ten Tiny Breaths (as you should before you read this novella or any of the reviews for it) I knew what I was getting into and was emotionally prepared for it. That does not mean I like Cole or what he did. It is super hard to love a book and not love the person it is about. But at this point in Cole’s story you shouldn’t love him. Not only is he suffering from PTSD but also who he is after his actions. His decisions had repercussions that affected the lives of a lot of people dramatically

“Five people . . one survivor . . . That means  . . . Six people are now dead. All because I didn’t hold up my end of the deal.”

Cole Reynolds was an attractive, smart, popular football player who made a bad decision. . . to drink when he was the designated driver. While he knew better than to drive after drinking his impaired judgment allowed him to believe that his closest friend, Sasha was sober enough when he told him he had stopped earlier. It is not long after Sasha, Cole and one other friend take off in their giant SUV that they collide with a small Audi carrying Kasey, her best friend, her boyfriend and her parents. Now all those who have read Ten Tiny Breaths know how that turned out. This story broke my heart. Things like this happen everyday, and while Cole was not driving he knows that his decision to drink while he was supposed to be the DD was the reason 6 people are dead and why Kasey’s life if forever altered.

“Did that smile survive?”

Cole’s sever depression leads him to become fixated on Kasey. How does one love a character who did all this? Deep down I love Cole and who he will grow to become but at this stage in his story my heart hurts for him and while I no where near hate him I cannot honestly say I love him either. However, Having read Ten Tiny Breaths first (YOU MUST and you will not regret it because that book is AMAZING) I am very happy to understand some of where his actions came from and watch him grow from the boy who inadvertently caused destruction in the lives of everyone around him into the man who helped heal! While this will never be an easy read and it is definitely not a romantic read I will say that for KA Tucker fans it is a MUST READ!

“I ponder what it would be like to have Kacey’s forgiveness. Would it lessen the burden of this weigh just a little? Would that be something too selfish to ask for?”

Synopsis

A summer of f*ck buddies? Something to take the edge off? I was down.

But when Chloe shows up at my hotel door, wanting to rip my head off, rather than give me head—I cared. A lot. Too much, in fact.

This is turning into more. And I can’t do more.

Like the ink under my skin she’s becoming permanent. Enduring. Immovable.

Was I ready to let her go though?

Not a f*cking chance.

Review

“Is that supposed to make me feel better? You’re probably lying anyway. Obviously, you’re good at it.”

OMG! Every part of this sexy serial leaves me dying for more. Chloe and Max have me so wrapped up in their story that I am desperate to get the fourth installment! Now for me personally that is a sign of a five star read. If I would be willing to drop what I am currently reading in order to get more of them that that is a WIN! Elisabeth Grace’s writing sucks me in and I get completely lost in it. I am currently in a serial frenzy and loving this popular format. This story picks up with Chloe’s boss threatening her if she does not stop seeing the competition, Max, in a personal capacity!

“I wasn’t God, but she’d be seeing the light in about thirty seconds.”

Max and Chloe have some amazing sexual chemistry and every encounter with them feels fresh and fun. I absolutely loved the whole sneaking around aspect when they find that they just cannot stay away from each other even when they know they need to. The hard part of this is watching all the miscommunication and denial of feelings but I have a hunch that all of that will come into play in a dynamic fourth book! Drama seems to follow Max and Chloe around and if there is one thing I am a sucker for it is angst and drama with a bit of wit thrown in for good measure!

“Not that I was complaining – I’d take an orgasm courtesy of Max any day.”

If you have read the first two volumes in this serial than you know that this is going to be good and if you haven’t stop reading this review of the third book and start reading the actual first volume! You won’t be let down. Before this series I knew Elisabeth Grace as primarily a New Adult Writer but she is quickly proving to me that she can seamlessly jump genres and write a compelling erotica story that is on par with some best sellers!

As we perused the menu, Nik commented, “I hope you don’t mind this café instead of the hospital cafeteria.” He made a face like he’d just tasted something vile.

Couldn’t say I blamed him. No one ever enjoyed hospital food. Blech! I grinned, “No. I don’t mind, at all.”

His lips turned up slightly. Never had he graced me with an actual smile that reached his eyes. He’d come close, and that had been heart pounding. Will I ever see his amazing lips in a megawatt smile? The thought made me squirm, because I knew it’d be panty dropping. Oh my. I fanned myself mentally. He held my gaze—no doubt, trying to figure out what I was thinking. “Penny for your thoughts?” he purred.

Holy crap! Surely he didn’t know. “Um…just trying to make a selection,” I replied.

He shot me a knowing look. Ah, hell. “Riiiight. You only had food on your mind.”

Not like I was going to claim my indecent musings. “Yes.” I asked innocently, “Was there something else I’m supposed to be considering?”

He nodded and half-smiled—good heavens, that mouth! “If that’s the way you wanna play this, Aimee.”

The timing couldn’t have been more perfect when our server asked, “What can I get for you?”

I looked up at her. “I’ll have the Spanish omelet and a cup of coffee, please.”

She turned her attention to Nik. When he glanced up at her, she blinked rapidly. Her lips parted as her breathing increased. Good, at least it’s not just me he has that effect on. The man was handsome personified—by no means an actor or model attractive, more like rugged and untamed and a wild kind of good-looking. That did things to a woman. He answered, “I’ll have the same but with a short stack of pancakes on the side. Coffee as well, thank you.”

She paused a moment too long and then turned to leave. I shook my head at him. “You have no idea, do you?”

His brows rose. “’Bout what, exactly?”

I grinned wryly. “Your effect on women.”

He actually looked astonished. “Come again.”

“Please! You can’t be that oblivious.”

He steepled his fingers in front of his mouth and admitted, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Why was that so hot?! He wore humility well, and damn, if it wasn’t a huge turn on. My mouth was suddenly dry. I wanted him. And I had no clue how to make that happen. I knew he was attracted to me. No one could ignore the awareness that arced between us; even now it was a force to be reckoned with. I decided honesty was best. “You’re a very attractive man, Nik. There’s not a woman in here that hasn’t checked you out.”

His eyes conveyed his bewilderment. “Really?” He shrugged. “Can’t say I’ve ever noticed.”

Review

This is the final book about J and Elle, and I couldn’t wait to see how it all works out for these 2. They have been through many highs and lows and I feel the book ended the way that is should have.

We start this book with insight into what happened to Elle and Chris, we get the back story to them becoming friends. This comes because of a nightmare that Elle has in which she flashes back to that night. This happens because of how book 2 ends. The kidnapping that took place brings the emotions out for her. We get to watch as J consoles and comforts her. They finally decide to stop star fishing and tell each other the things they feel rather than hide them.

Elle and J are fighting for their lives, even if they weren’t aware of it to start off with. The kidnapping is just the beginning and they need to fight to stay alive. We read about what they are willing to do for each other and what they are willing to go through in order to make sure that they have a future together. J is feeling the weight of all this, he feels that he is responsible for Elle’s life change, he feels it is his fault that she is by his side and not alone and safe. But he just can’t give her up.

We get Fernie in this story as well as some other characters that are thrown in. we have J’s MC Brothers and we have new girl Isabel. We also get a chapter from Chris. It’s amazing to get to read from these pov’s as well as J and Elle’s. We feel the guilt that Elle has because of Fernie in this book. She feels that he is being out into this danger with them, when he shouldn’t have been involved.

We get to see the softer sides of both Elle and J which is fantastic to read, I love when they both open up to each other and tell it how it is. Elle finally talks openly about her feelings for J, “You own my heart, my love…me. Im in this with you now, and I’ll die for you, just like you would for me. I can’t lose you again. A life without you isn’t an option.”

I loved this book, and I felt the way it ended was perfect for them. They got their home. I look forward to reading more of Emily Eck’s work. Well done on another brilliant read.

“Us, baby. This is us. I’ll love you ‘til the sun ceases to shine. I’ll keep telling you until you believe me.”

“What’s the matter, Wildcat?” Kona lay on top of her, held her hip with his long fingers. “You nervous?” She could only manage a nod and Kona smiled, moving his mouth to her neck, down her shoulder, kissing lightly. “We don’t have to do this. I can wait.”
“No!” She panicked at the thought. He laughed at her excitement and that touch on her hip got tighter. “No,” she said, voice a bit calmer. “I want you, Kona.” He looked at her, smile gone, expression relaxed. “I’ve wanted you for weeks and weeks.” Keira exhaled, moving the hair off her forehead. “It’s just been a while and you’re so…” She flicked her eyes down then quickly back up again. “You’re a lot bigger than I expected.”
“Ha, sweetheart, you’re good for my ego, but it’s just me.” Kona kissed her again, slipping just the tip of his tongue into her mouth before he pulled away. “I’ll be easy with you, Wildcat. I’ll be so slow and good, but maybe this will help.”
Kona’s hand left her hip, slipped between her thighs easily and he coaxed more wetness from her, teasing her lips, taking his time to touch her clit. Keira shuddered, held her hand against his wrist as he continued and Kona took her lead, rubbed once more over her clit before he slipped two fingers inside her. He’d learned her body in the past few weeks and Keira had been grateful that she didn’t have to tell him what she wanted, what felt best. He always seemed to know.
His mouth was warm, tongue eager as he kissed her, as those large fingers curled and his knuckles touched the spot that sent her mind swimming. He never had to touch her for long, always knew exactly how to read the lift of her voice, the collection of sounds that gave away just how good she felt when he touched her. That night was no exception. Just a few sure rubs of his knuckles against her G-spot and Keira was flying, hips off the mattress as her body chased that orgasm.
“Beautiful. Every time, Wildcat. So beautiful.” Another kiss against her neck, with Keira still spinning on the crest of her orgasm and Kona slipped inside of her. “God…” Kona moved his hips slow, barely moved an inch and already Keira felt full, felt she couldn’t be stretched any further. When he slid deeper, she hissed, not from the pain but from how sensitive she already was. “You okay? You want me to stop?”
“No,” she told him, opening her eyes so he’d know she wasn’t hurting. “God, no, please keep going. You just fill me up. It’s so good, bebe.”
Kona stilled inside her and a small quirk of his mouth told Keira he was pleased. “That’s the first time you’ve ever called me that.”
“I’ll say it again just to keep that smile on your face.”
Then Keira lifted her legs, wrapped them around Kona’s hips and she let herself be filled as he worked inside her. Everything about Kona was huge; his body, his cock, his voice, his presence and all of it filled Keira’s room as well as her body, moved around them and through them and she felt high, so high on him, on the sensation of him moving inside of her, his hands on her breasts, his fingers clasped with hers as he lifted her hands above her head on the pillow and pinned them there.
Sweat pooled over their skin, met together in the twist of their bodies and when Kona stared down at her, kissed her like her lips would give him breath, Keira shuddered, squeezed against him. The light was thin and Keira could only make out the outline of his features, the small glint in his eyes and it was too much, too overwhelming, but she would not run this time, she wouldn’t tell herself she could do without this. Not again. Not anymore. She belonged to him. Her body, her heart, no matter how beaten and worn it was, belonged to Kona Hale.
Keira squeezed against him again and Kona stilled, stared down at her with a smile that told her he wanted to control this, lead her. “Don’t squeeze,” he said, pulling her hips up, hitting inside her deeper. “If you open up, baby, go wide for me, relax, I can make you come hard, I can make it last for you.” A slow thrust, deeper, harder and Keira arched against him, relaxed her inner muscles even as she throbbed against him. “Perfect, so perfect.”
This was deeper, freer somehow, letting Kona move them, letting him control the moment and Keira held onto Kona like he would anchor her, keep her from floating above herself.
“Come for me, baby. Give it to me completely and I’ll make it so, so good for you. I’ll take care of you when you shatter against me.” And Keira listened, guessed that this is what Kona needed—that slip of control she gave to him. She let go, pushed out, relinquishing herself, giving her body to Kona, rather than closing off, pulling in, and the effect was substantial. He moved in closer, worked faster and Keira let herself open, relax until that heavenly sensation came upon her, urged on by Kona’s strong hands on her hips, his wide dick touching all the way inside her and when the orgasm came, it mirrored her heart—free, unyielding, explosive.
“God… ,” Kona said, voice rising higher and higher with each grunt he made, hips slamming into her hard, fast, faster, and Keira knew he was hitting his crest. Shoulders shaking, hips pumping faster and faster, Kona released a groan, filling her, throbbing inside her as he came.
Then he pulled his hand from hers and held the back of her neck, stared down at her with his thumb on her cheek. “This is always, Wildcat. You… you’re my always.”
