Synopsis:

Sex? Absolutely

Love? Not my thing.

I didn’t do love or butterflies, but I loved him.

I was screwed, and not in a good way.

Selah Elmore is a smart, independent woman who knows exactly who she is and what she wants. She loves her life being a professor and popular pirate erotica author. However, when she leaves the Pacific Northwest to spend six months studying sculpture in West Africa, she learns she doesn’t know a thing about love.

Cocky, suit-wearing Gerhard charms her during a stopover in Amsterdam, but dashing, adventurous Kai sweeps her off her feet in Ghana.

Sparks fly on three continents when perpetually single Selah discovers there’s more to love and life than she ever imagined.

Daisy Prescott Bio:

unnamed1

Before writing bestselling contemporary adult romances, I dreamed of being an author while doing a lot of other things. Antiques dealer, baker, blue ribbon pie-maker, fangirl, freelance writer, gardener, pet mom and wife are a few of the other titles I’ve acquired over the years.

Born and raised in San Diego, I currently lives in a real life Stars Hollow in the Boston suburbs with my husband, our dog Hubbell, and an imaginary house goat.

Missionary Position is a spin-off from my first novel, Geoducks Are for Lovers. Like my second novel, Ready to Fall, it can be read as a standalone contemporary romance/romantic comedy.

Review

Wow, wow, and another wow for Missionary Position! This book takes you on a beautiful, adventurous journey! It can be read as a standalone and there are two books that can be read out of order. This book was my first “travel” novel and I am so glad I read it. Daisy Prescott did an excellent job.
Selah Elmore is not interested in the white picket fence and the 2.5 kids.  She was unlike any female lead I have read. I loved how the author didn’t exactly tell the age of the lead. Daisy made the readers do their math, and I promise its not along the lines of “subtract one, carry the two…” Selah has her very own United Nations of Peens! This woman travels and can list off nationalities of men that she has bed. She isn’t shy about her sexuality at all. She is a very confident, poised woman. And doesn’t need a man, in her eyes, unless its in the bedroom! Well that’s until she meets Gerhard Henricks. A gorgeous, gorgeous, Dutchman! Did I mention he is gorgeous?! With a brief encounter in Amsterdam, Gerhard left an impression on independent Selah. But its not until she arrives in Ghana that she is introduced to Kai, that changes her world for the better.
It was just so easy to get lost in the settings of this book. It is definitely a book that you can begin reading and see it play out in front of you like a movie screen. I felt like I was transported into the book. I got to walk with Selah through the city of Ghana, and interact with the people and animals of West Africa. I was transported to another world! I can’t thank Daisy enough for this. I may never get to travel to these destinations, physically. But as the words flowed, so did my imagination. You are one talented lady Daisy Prescott! Daisy Prescott was at an author event I attended. Unfortunately I didn’t get to meet her and after I read this book I am kicking myself for it!
This was not a typical love story. I say its more of an adult love story. Relatable people, realistic goals and careers in life, and real aspirations to do good things in the world. All around a REAL love story. I felt every emotion, from fear to happiness, to anger and hurt. I bet I’m rambling and fangirling hard.I just can’t contain all this emotion!  I am recommending this book to all! I am confident enough to say that everyone will love this book. It blew me away and I have no doubt it will do the same for you. I can’t praise it enough; 5 smooches for Missionary Position by Daisy Prescott!

Excerpt

I hear a whisper come up from behind me, “So, how’s your first
party?” I know that voice anywhere. I turn around to find Duke smiling at me.
“It’s great! I’m having so much fun!”
“I’m glad. You’ve danced with Taylor all night. Usually he doesn’t
dance at parties, so that was surprising.”
I glance towards Taylor who’s across the room, talking to Adam.
“Oh well. He’s a good dance partner.”
“Wanna bet?” Duke grabs my hand and leads me onto the dance floor
just in time for a new song to start. The speakers start to play “Timber” by
Pitbull and the crowd goes wild as people begin to flood the dance area. My
heart literally stops beating and I swear I can’t even breathe, I’m so freaking
nervous. I notice that my hand fits so perfectly in Duke’s hand.
The crowd is so packed together that Duke and I are forced to
dance closely; maybe a little too close. As the song starts, he sings the
lyrics and we begin to groove to the music.
I laugh out loud and raise my hands above my head and sing along
with him. The crowd is compact and everyone’s bodies continuously bump into one
another. Duke looks at me and places his hand on my lower back. A shocking jolt
of electricity flows through his touch and my eyes widen. He immediately
removes his hand from my back and instead keeps his hand by his side. I can
still feel the heat flow, where his hand was placed, and I miss it being there.
We continue dancing as I give him a reassuring smile. He winks and continues to
sing and twirls me around.
I bob my head to the beat and shake my body with every fiber I
have. As we dance together, I no longer pay attention to what’s around me. It’s
as if Duke and I are the only ones dancing and as I stare at him, I get lost in
the wonder of what could be. Someone from behind me pushes me forward and I
fall against Duke’s strong and broad chest as he catches me. We stare into each
other’s eyes for a brief moment before he breaks the contact and helps me stand
on my own.
“You alright?”
I laugh nervously, “Yea sorry. Just crowded, that’s all.”
The song ends and the crowd begins to clear leaving only a few
stragglers. Duke looks at his watch. “It’s getting late. We should get going.”
“Ok. I have to use the restroom first.”

After I use the restroom, Duke finds Melanie among the crowd and
we say our goodbyes. Taylor tells me he will call soon and he hugs me and
kisses me on the cheek. As we pull up to my driveway, Melanie asks, “So, was it
a night to remember?” I smile and catch Duke looking at me through the rearview
mirror, “Yes, yes it was.”

Review

I have to say I didn’t quite know what to expect when I started this story but I honestly ended up loving it. This started out as a new adult book: we follow Raya, a young woman who lives far from a perfect life in an abusive home trying to disappear from the world but Duke won’t let her and quickly these two develop feelings for each other, but at the wrong time for something explosive happens that rips Raya away from Duke. From this point the story turned quite quickly into something full of suspense and darkness which I LOVED!! It was such a contrast to the beginning on the story and I enjoyed the two parts to it.

“You’re worth it. You’ve always been worth it….”

From the first few pages in I was already in love with the main characters. Duke was the sweetest and most caring book boyfriend I have read in a while: he was the perfect boy next door with how charming he was, how affectionate and caring, he was cute and sexy and honestly, I wish I could find myself a Duke!

“I promised to keep you safe and I won’t ever stop. I’ll do everything to protect you. Even if it’s from yourself.”

Raya was a lead female I could look up to and I wanted her to do well, she faces such terrible situations but she always remained strong and never truly gave up hope and I thought her and Duke together made the perfect couple!

“You’ve changed my life Duke, even before everything in Chicago happened. You make me a better person…I’m no longer numb or shut people out. I’m in touch with my emotions and I stand up to face my fears. But all of this was because of you.”

The story itself was amazing! Exactly the genre of book I love with romance, suspense, and the darker element added in. I liked how we started off sweet and hopeful and then BANG we get thrown into the story with everything that happens and the story never really slows down. The author really brings you into the both sides of the story, the sweet NA beginning and then the darker more suspense-filled middle and end.

“As we descend into the darkness of the tunnel, tears return as my body tremors in fear of the horrors that await me around the corner.”

It kept me hooked from page 1 and didn’t let me go the whole way through…. Even when it finished I was still hooked on the story and I wanted more pages to magically appear on my kindle so I could keep reading about these characters and remain in their lives!

Overall 4.5 stars for an amazing book which had a very captivating plot and characters that I absolutely adored.
Well done to the author on writing such a great debut novel!

excerpt

“It sucks when your pretend date ditches you for a real one.” I looked up to find Dain in front of me, blocking Christian and Amber from my view. He was so tall I had to crane my neck up to look at him. I didn’t mind; the view was spectacular.

I shrugged. “Yeah, but what are you gonna do?” I said, my tongue finally coming unglued from the roof of my mouth. He smiled and my insides quivered. “It’s okay, we’re roommates. I’ll just do gross things to him while he sleeps.”

He laughed again and I smiled in response. “You could do that. Or,” he leaned in, so close I could smell his cologne, “you could get even.”

My mouth fell open. I was a fish again, gasping for air and flopping around for something witty to say. Instead, he got, “Get even?”

He nodded. “Yeah. You know, find some wildly attractive guy to be your new date and piss him off.”

“That’s a good idea,” I said. “Know any wildly attractive guys?”

“If you’ll settle for extremely witty and tall, then there’s always me,” he said. Him. On a biscuit. Or covered in chocolate. Or running shirtless, drenched with sweat. Or … I swallowed past the lump in my throat.

“I guess you’ll do,” I said with a shrug.

“Good. Why don’t you tell me about Jenn?”

“Um, okay.” He placed his hand at the small of my back, turning me toward the little dock jutting out over the water. A sleek speedboat bobbed on the surface. I concentrated on trying not to trip as we stepped out onto the dock. “Well, I’m a Nursing student. I’m in my junior year and I want to be a Pediatric nurse after I graduate.”

“Pediatrics, huh? You must like kids or something.”

I nodded. “Everybody likes kids.”

“So you must want to have them someday.”

“Doesn’t everybody?” He shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe someday. I’m more focused on my career right now than anything else.”

“What do you do?” “Well, I just graduated with a business degree last year,” he said, stuffing his hands into his pockets. “I just started an entry level position at my dad’s company.”

“Wow,” I said, eyebrows raised. “Color me impressed.”

He laughed. “Not that impressive. It’s grunt work in the mail room, but you have to start somewhere. My dad started there and now he’s CEO. I could have gotten a job higher up, but I wanted to take my lumps like everybody else. Couldn’t have everybody whispering behind my back that Daddy did it for me.”

I wasn’t lying about being impressed. A guy who could have gotten any job he wanted through his dad, choosing to work his way up from the bottom. This guy became more intriguing by the second.

“That’s ambitious,” I stated. “More so than Nursing.”

“Hey,” he said, his hand coming out of his pocket to touch my bare shoulder. That touch caused my blood to sing in my veins. Electricity arced across my skin. “There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be a nurse. It’s a hard, noble job. Besides, someone has to hold the little brats down while they get their shots.”

“You are so not funny,” I replied, but I was laughing all the same.

“No, but you are,” he said. “Look at you all mad at me. It’s cute.”

I could feel my face getting hot. Cute? I’d take it. For him, I’d wear cute like a badge of honor. This was going well. I was flirting without making too big a fool of myself. Dain was smiling, and not a fake, forced smile either. He kept touching me—my arm, my shoulder. Things were going perfectly. Until I took a step backward and went plummeting off the side of the dock.

Review

This was a funny, light hearted, quick and easy read that’s perfect for when you need a book that will make you smile and give you a laugh.

This was about a young woman called Jennifer who has been the unluckiest in terms of finding love and losing that illusive V card, resulting in some very embarrassing and accident prone situations. So she makes a deal with herself that she will lose a V card by her 21st birthday which is 60 days away.

” I doubt he would of cared if one was three sizes bigger than the other, or if my nipples were two different colours.”

This was a very quick and easy read that bought a smile to my face. It was a funny plot line that didn’t have much substance but was enough to keep me entertained. It worked very well with it being a short story and it definitely made me smile.
There was even a little love triangle going on, although that was a tame one and even a ‘villain’ of the story which I have to admit I didn’t see coming.

“There’s this spark, This elemental feeling of need that is unlike anything you’ve ever felt. It grows and swells until it consumes you, and you feel like your just going to die if you don’t make love to that person, right then, right there.”

I really loved the characters. Jennifer was cute, likeable and funny. And her flat mates were also so easy to like and they made me laugh. Especially the boys, I loved their flirty but big brother protector personalities with the girls of the group.

“I think your beautiful and that seeing you everyday makes me happy. I’ve wanted you to know how hard it is to walk past you every morning…”

Overall I rated this 3.5 stars because it did make me smile and I really enjoyed the characters, but there wasn’t enough substance or plot for me to rate it any higher, but it’s the perfect story if you are looking for a light, easy read.

” ‘No,’ I answered. ‘Because I went on a mission to lose something, but ended up gaining everything.”

Review

This book follows Dylan as she tries to live her life after a horrible childhood and a shocking and life altering incident. Dylan is a strong girl, whether she believes it or not. She has moved on to the best of her abilities and all is alright for her until Ethan enters her world.

Ethan makes Dylan feel things she didn’t think that she would ever feel again, she feels safe, protected, cherished and loved. But is all it seems? There is something that happens on a date with Dylan that causes him to flee and cut off all contact with Dylan. This makes her feel almost broken, she can’t remember the last time she had a day without thinking about Ethan.

Ethan comes back a year later, and waltzes into Dylan’s life again as though he never left. He doesn’t want to give answers as to where he has been, what he’s been doing or even why he is back now. Ethan says all the right things, he charms his way back into Dylan’s life. But the things he does and the way he acts causes her hurt. And she isn’t sure if she wants that. Ethan wants her, and is willing to do whatever it takes to make her see that. “Im not leaving. I know I handled it all wrong last year, but you’re not the only one that missed us. I feel it too. The pull. The undeniable force drawing us together. I felt it last year, and every day since.”

Things seem to be going well for Dylan and Ethan, we get the I love you and the happy times. They share their secrets and their pasts. Dylan tells Ethan about what happened to her but we find out that Ethan isn’t exactly who he says he is. He plays a part in her past, and it seems like it will be too much to move past. Dylan and Ethan stay together because she feels as though he has told her all about himself and all that he has done.

After learning another lie, Dylan decides enough is enough. She can’t live a life that has lies in it, she’s had enough. The ending for me was hard to read, you feel the pain that both Dylan and Ethan go through, and you feel the love there. But even reading it I wasn’t sure that what had happened between them and the lies that I would have stayed. Ethan and Dylan love each other and there is no denying that but it isn’t enough. I really want more of Dylan and Ethan as I feel their story has ended yet. “I was only a reminder of her past; a sinking anchor, but damn, I would always love her. My heart was ripped from my chest and I was left with nothing but a nagging empty hole.”

Well done JW Phillips on a fantastic read. I look forward to reading more of your books.
