Dream Keeper by Kristen Ashley Review

5 SMOOCHES!

* * * * * * * * * *

SYNOPSIS:

Spinning off from the bestselling Dream Man and Rock Chick series, this is the emotional and steamy contemporary romance fans of the Dream Team series have been waiting for!

He’s perfect—but he can’t be hers.

Pepper Hannigan is determined to keep any romance off the table—and out of her bedroom—while her daughter Juno is still young. Sure, a certain handsome commando is thoughtful, funny, and undeniably hot, but Pepper’s had her heart broken before, and she won’t let it happen again. Not to her or her little girl, even if this hero could melt any woman’s resolve.

Augustus “Auggie” Hero can’t deny his attraction to beautiful, warm-hearted Pepper or how much he wants to make a home with her and her little girl, but Pepper’s mixed signals have kept him away. That is, until Juno decides to play matchmaker. Her efforts finally bring Pepper into his arms, but they expose the danger Pepper is in. To protect Pepper and Juno, Auggie will have to live up to his last name and prove happy endings aren’t just for fairy tales.

REVIEW:

In 2019, when Kristen Ashley teased Dream Maker, the first book this series, to her readers, I was ecstatic, and it instantly became one of my most anticipated books of 2020. I absolutely loved her Dream Man series, and to this day, it’s one I reread often. Hawk Delgado and his commandos were these interesting, elusive guys who popped up all over KA’s fictional world in Denver whenever anyone seemed to need them most. I wanted to know more about them then, and I’m thrilled that KA has given it to readers now.

Dream Keeper is the fourth book in Kristen Ashley’s Dream Team series, and I absolutely loved everything about Auggie and Pepper’s story. The Dream Team series features characters who’ve really only been alluded to in her previous books and series set in KA’s Denver. Her readers often look for stories from her with what they refer to as that ‘old school KA vibe,’ which is a reference to her early writings that are widely viewed as some of the greatest contemporary romances of our time. I am a KA reader who craves that hit of awesomeness, and she has quenched my thirst for that with the stories in this series. The stories in the Dream Team series were all comfortingly familiar yet still felt brand-spanking-new to me.

KA’s stories aren’t just about the hot guy hero. He’s a star, no doubt, but her heroines are equally dynamic and hold their own in the face of all that alpha-hotness. Her heroines are notoriously strong, sassy, smart women, and she gives them a vibrant and loyal goup of friends who illustrate exactly what it means to find your tribe. I turn to KA’s stories for those fabulous female-positive friendships just as much as I do the heart-racing, heat-filled, knee-weakening romances these heroines get swept up in. In Dream Keeper, the heroine, Pepper, has a solid support system in her co-workers at Smithie’s, and their brand of mischief and sisterhood holds up against that of the Rock Chicks or the Chaos old ladies.

Auggie and Pepper both bring a suitcase full of their own issues to this relationship. Pepper is a single mother, and her precious daughter, Juno, plays a huge role in the story and often steals the show. Pepper has been burned by love, and now she is not only guarding her heart, she’s guarding Juno’s. She’s got a big heart, and it really wants Auggie, but she’s afraid to take him up on what he’s offering. Auggie has had his own disappointments in love, but he’s got it bad for Pepper and her sweet little girl and is willing to take a chance. Auggie isn’t the only one who wants him and Pepper together, though. It seems Juno does, too, and she enlists the help of an unlikely ally. As is often the case with KA’s romances, amid the up and downs of the love story, a suspenseful secondary plot is unfolding. The one here was interesting and had a few unexpected twists and turns that kept me tapping at my screen.

Wonderfully nostalgic but with a fresh spin, Dream Keeper was everything I love about a Kristen Ashley romance. A clever, cool and chic heroine paired with a protective, decisive, caring alpha male in a love story full of feels, fun and fire. I positively devoured this book, loving every single moment, word and scene of it. I didn’t want to put it down, I didn’t want it to end, and I’m now excitedly wondering if that was truly the end. A top favorite of the year, Dream Keeper by Kristen Ashley gets five smooches from me!

Come Again by Lauren Blakely Review

5 SMOOCHES!

* * * * * * * * * *

SYNOPSIS:

There are three words most men can’t resist—I dare you.

So as you can see, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I had no choice when my buddies said “I bet you can’t get that brunette beauty to kiss you before the night ends.”

I proved them wrong, and oh how good it felt to be right when I swept the quick-tongued woman into my arms and kissed the breath out of her at the party.

But, I made a slight miscalculation.

Turns out she’s my brand new enemy.

And soon I’m locked in a fierce battle of wits with my sexy-as-sin nemesis. I’m determined to show the whole city that my company is offering the best new path to romance, and she’s dead-set on knocking me down. Publicly.

It’s the hottest game of one-upmanship I’ve ever played, punctuated by fiery kisses, dirty letters, and, after a heated argument, hate s-e-x.

You know what they say. Keep your enemies closer.

I keep her so damn close to my favorite body part.

Everything is fun and games…until I gamble something I can’t afford to lose.

My heart.

REVIEW:

Heading back into the Big Rock world, Come Again by Lauren Blakely, is a full circle moment for me. My Blakely fandom all began with the first two book in that series, Big Rock and Mister O.  She captured my attention, my heart and a spot on my favorite authors list with them. Primarily told in the hero’s POV, Lauren Blakely has delivered some truly magical romantic comedies in this series. I love many things about her storytelling, but one of my favorite things is the authentic, genuine way she takes readers into the hearts and heads of her male leads.

Come Again was a scorching hot enemies/nemesis-to-lovers romance. Easton and Bellamy’s chemistry was explosive from the moment they met. Bellamy kept Easton on his toes—mainly by not falling at his feet—and the result was some seriously witty, rapid-fire bantering that cranked the heat all the way up between them. Easton owns a high-end professional matchmaking service with a twist, and Bellamy is a relationship podcaster who isn’t buying into his method. Their relationship begins on a dare that morphs into a bet before they end up locked in a battle of wills.

Easton is confidence and charm wrapped up in a devastatingly handsome package. He’s successful, he’s competitive, he’s driven and focused on his business. He’s also got some heart-wrenching baggage that he’s yet to unpack, and as a result, he may help others find love but he’s not exactly open to it for himself. Bellamy’s competitive streak and confidence rival Easton’s, but it’s her whip-smart, sassy personality that pushes his buttons. She’s a woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to ask for it. Despite their intent to keep things light and breezy, real feelings develop and Easton has to decide if he’s willing to open his heart and take a chance on love.

Bellamy and Easton were a perfect addition to the Big Rock world, and I absolutely loved heading back there! Come Again was a spicy, saucy and entertaining adversaries-to-lovers romantic comedy, and I inhaled every second of it. Sebastian York was perfection in the role of Easton, and I loved Vanessa Edwin as Bellamy. Five smooches from me for Lauren Blakely’s Come Again!

Dex and I might be twelve years apart, but the fire between us is the kind that will never burn out…

My new neighbor is a firefighter—and a scorching hot single dad—but I swear I didn’t set off that smoke alarm on purpose.

(And I was beyond mortified when he rushed in and saw me naked.)

Nothing happened, of course—because I, Winnie MacAllister, romance junkie and owner of a constantly broken heart, have sworn off men for one solid year.

Even protective men with chiseled jaws, bulging biceps, and deep brown eyes that make my breath come faster. Even former SEALs with broad chests and strong hands that make my skin sizzle. EXCERPT:

She looked a little nervous, not that I blamed her, as she held out a small pink box of Band-Aids. “I had these lying around and thought Luna might want them for her knee. Band-Aids sometimes come off in the shower, so . . .”

I reached out and took them from her, noticing she was careful not to let our fingers touch this time. “Thanks.”

“That’s it—I just wanted to—um, okay, have a good night.” She turned to leave, and I probably should have let her.

“Wait a second.”

She faced me again, her expression still wary.

“I’m sorry about that.” I gestured over my shoulder with the pink box. “My ex-wife—the girls’ mom—knows how to get a rise out of me.”

“Oh, that’s okay. It’s none of my business, and I didn’t really hear anything.” It was obvious she’d heard everything.

I nodded slowly. “Well, thanks for the Band-Aids. Luna will appreciate it.”

Her smile was back, along with that stutter in my chest. “Good. Enjoy your night.”

“You too.”

She turned around and went down the steps, cutting across the lawn to her place with that same youthful bounce in her step. Glancing down at the box, I shook my head—of course she had a whole thing of pink princess Band-Aids. I shut the door and trudged up the stairs to get the kids cleaned up.

Hallie went first, after a brief attempt to get me to let her wear socks in the shower. As usual, I refused, explaining again that the entire house had been thoroughly cleaned before we moved in, and I’d been here yesterday to make sure of it.

While she was getting dressed, I made sure Luna washed her hair and used soap, then helped her get dried off. After hanging up their towels, I double-checked that they’d chosen appropriate clothing and was just about to get in my own shower when I heard a series of high-pitched beeps.

“What’s that?” Hallie said, scrunching up her face.

Instantly on high alert, I put my hand up. “Shh.” I heard it again, and recognized it as a smoke detector going off, but not in our house—we were hearing it through the walls. “Stay here.”

I raced out of their room and took the stairs down three at a time, jumping to the bottom with five to go. Barreling out my front door, I ran over to Winnie’s and knocked. The alarm was clearly coming from inside her unit, and when she didn’t answer the door, I made a split-second decision to bust in.

Fortunately, the door wasn’t locked.

I shouldered it open, relieved when I didn’t see or smell smoke right away. Winnie’s townhouse was laid out exactly like mine, and I immediately realized the detector going off was upstairs. Racing up the steps three at a time, I reached the master bedroom doorway just in time to see Winnie climbing onto a suitcase, one hand reaching toward the ceiling to disconnect the unit.

My jaw dropped.

She was totally naked and dripping wet.

One hand was clutching a small towel to her chest that didn’t fucking hide anything . Behind her, steam from her shower billowed from her bathroom, which must have been what set off the alarm—some detectors are that sensitive. Behind me, I heard clamoring on the stairs, and a second later both Hallie and Luna rushed into the bedroom.

Startled, Winnie looked over and saw us. Her eyes went wide as she screamed, lost her footing, and toppled backward off the suitcase. She landed hard on her ass, arms and legs flailing like a rag doll.

Averting my eyes, I strode over and disconnected the unit while she scrambled toward the bathroom on her hands and knees, presumably in search of a bigger towel.

But then she slammed the door . . . and didn’t come out.

The eighty-five decibel alarm had ceased, but the sirens in my head continued.

I looked at the girls. Luna had her hands over her mouth. Hallie’s eyes were wide, and she pointed to the bathroom door. “Winnie was naked,” she whispered. “We saw her bum.”

“Quiet,” I scolded angrily. “You two were supposed to stay at our house. You didn’t follow my orders.”

“But Daddy, we were scared,” Luna said. Her hair was still wet and tangled. “We came to find you.”

“We’ll talk about it later, but when I tell you to stay put, you stay put-especially in an emergency. Understand?”

They nodded.

“Now go back to our house, both of you.”

“But what about Winnie? Is she okay?”

I went over to the bathroom door and knocked, trying not to picture her naked. The shower wasn’t running anymore. “Winnie? Are you okay?”

“I’m fine!”

“Are you hurt?”

“I’m fine!” she repeated in the same false, bright tone.

A tiny smile inched onto my lips. “Are you sure?”

REVIEW:

I love Melanie Harlow’s sweet and sexy storytelling, and her Cloverleigh Farms series stole my heart. Like a lot of her readers, I’d been hoping for a second generation series with the children of those heroes and heroines. I’ve been looking forward to this book since she announced it, and I was not disappointed.

Ignite, the first second generation book in the Cloverleigh Farms series, kicks off with the love story of Winnie, the daughter of Mack, the hero who launched the series, and Dex, her neighbor. Dex is a single dad, a firefighter and is 12 years older than Winnie. He’s grumpy, broody and jaded. He’s admittedly attracted to Winnie, but he’s also convinced she’s too young for him and isn’t looking for a relationship. Dex was focused on being the best dad to his two adorable young daughters following his divorce with their mother. Winnie is a romantic at heart and she’s in love with love. But on the heels of her latest heartbreak, she’s on a love break when she meets her hot, handsome and heavily muscled new neighbor. Dex’s daughters take an instant liking to Winnie, and they’re constantly roping her into things. Then there’s the chemistry sparking between them that quickly ignites a blaze that incinerates Dex’s control and Winnie’s resolve.

I loved everything about this story. I loved Dex, I loved Winnie, I loved the two of them together, and his daughters were adorable little show-stealers. A little bit bittersweet, a whole lot swoony, Dex and Winnie’s love story was one that I devoured in an afternoon. I couldn’t get enough of their story, these characters, and I’m already looking forward to the next book. Five smooches from me for Ignite by Melanie Harlow!

EXCERPT:

Flynn

“Oh my gosh! I’m sorry!” A female voice grabs my attention, and I glance toward the entrance doors of the Wynn to find a blur of wild curls running like a banshee. She bumps into several people trying to get outside, and more apologies blurt from her lips as she almost takes out an older gentleman wearing a cowboy hat.

The man is none too pleased, but his annoyance doesn’t stop her. Out onto the pavement of the driveway, she stumbles a bit on her sky-high heels as she continues her fast-track path to who knows where.

She comes to a halting stop in the center of the entrance driveway, in the middle of cars and only a few feet from my bike, and looks around maniacally with her big green eyes.

What is she doing?

Her breaths come out in harsh pants, and she chaotically brushes pieces of her wild mane of curls out of her face.

“You okay?” I find myself asking, and she snaps her eyes toward mine.

She stares at me like I just asked her to solve an advanced calculus problem, and I lift the visor up on my helmet to repeat my question. “You okay?”

She shakes her head and digs her teeth into the meat of her full, red-painted lips. But just as she opens her mouth to respond, a man in a well-fitted suit comes bursting out of the entrance doors, yelling, “Daisy!”

The beautiful but possibly insane woman shuts her eyes on a heavy sigh, and by the sag in her shoulders and frown on her lips, I have a feeling she’s the Daisy he’s calling for.

“Daisy! Honey! Wait up!”

“Fuck,” she mutters, and it doesn’t take a genius to figure out Crazy Daisy wants nothing to do with this guy.

Maybe he’s the reason for her abrupt departure and reckless sprint out of the casino?

This guy could be her boyfriend. Fiancé. Husband. I don’t fucking know what. But whoever he is, she wants distance. That much is apparent.

And even though I’m supposed to meet my brothers at one of the Wynn’s bars in about ten minutes, the urge to help her is too strong to ignore.

It’s a rare thing for a guy like me, to be honest. I don’t meddle in other people’s shit, but the panicked look on her face makes me want to give her the escape she needs.

But before I know it, before I can even offer the help, she takes it for herself.

One leg over the seat of my bike and her arms around my waist, she leans into my back harshly and declares her intentions without pause. “I need a ride.”

REVIEW:

I’m loving Max Monroe’s Winslow Brothers, and they have returned with Flynn’s story in The Pact. A marriage of convenience romantic comedy, Flynn is in Vegas for his brother Jude’s bachelor party when he meets Daisy, a Canadian clothing designer living in LA pursuing her dream job. Max is the strong silent type, a bit standoffish and private, and Daisy is a breath of fresh air. She’s independent, optimistic and has a big heart. She’s in a bit of pickle and needs to find a solution to her problem—fast. Queue a ride on the back of the hot guy’s Harley and a quickie Vegas wedding, and Daisy’s problem is solved. That’s just the beginning of their hilarious, heat-filled, heart-racing journey.

A no-strings attached business arrangement full of opposites attract vibes, I loved Flynn and Daisy’s story so much. The Pact was so much fun, full of feels and fiery hot. I devoured it in a day as I laughed, lusted and fell in love right along with Flynn and Daisy! I can’t wait for more of these brothers! Five smooches from me for The Pact by Max Monroe from me!

The first time I met Max Yearwood was on a blind date.

Max was insanely gorgeous, funny, and our chemistry was off the charts. He also had the biggest dimples I’d ever laid eyes on.

Exactly what I needed after my breakup.

Or so I thought…

Until my real date arrived.

Turned out, Max wasn’t who I was there to meet. He only pretended to be until my real date showed up.

To say I was disappointed would be an understatement.

Before he left, he slipped me a ticket to a hockey game a few blocks away, in case things didn’t work out on my actual date.

I tossed the ticket into my purse and went about trying to enjoy the man I was supposed to meet.

But my real blind date and I had no connection.

So on my way home, I decided to take a chance and stop by the game.

When I arrived, the seat next to me was empty.

Disappointed again, I decided to leave at the end of the period.

Just before the buzzer, one of the teams scored, and the entire arena went crazy.

A player’s face flashed up on the Jumbotron. He was wearing a helmet, but I froze when he smiled.

You guessed it: Dimples.

Apparently, my fake blind date hadn’t invited me to watch hockey with him, he’d invited me to watch him play.

And so began my adventure with Max Yearwood.

He was everything I needed at the time—fun, sexy, up for anything, and only around for a few months since he’d signed with a new team three-thousand miles away.

Max proposed we spend the summer helping me forget my ex. It sounded like a good plan. Things couldn’t get too serious when we had an expiration date. Right?

Though, you know what they say about the best-laid plans.
