A Kiss For A Kiss by Helena Hunting Blog Tour with Excerpt

A KISS FOR A KISS, an all-new surprise baby, mature adult romance from New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting is available now! Scroll down for an excerpt!

There’s a small complication.
A beautiful, sexy complication named Hanna.

I’m Jake Masterson, single dad, and the General Manager of Seattle’s NHL team. I walked away from a career as a player so I could raise my daughter. For the last twenty-plus years, Queenie has been my main priority, but now she’s getting married.

And there’s a small complication.

A beautiful, sexy complication named Hanna.

She’s my son-in-law’s older sister. Or at least that’s how they were raised. The truth is a little more scandalous than that.

I’ve been drawn to her from the moment I laid eyes on her. And I spent months trying to keep a lid on that attraction.

Until we finally give in.

It starts with one searing kiss, but quickly ends with us between the sheets—and in the shower, and the hot tub, you get the picture—and turns into months of sneaking around.

Here’s the problem: we live on opposite ends of the country. It can’t be anything but casual. And as I’ve already said…it’s complicated.

But when Hanna finds out she’s pregnant…suddenly things get real serious.

EXCERPT:

“You’re trouble tonight, aren’t you?” Her fingertips dance along my traps as she brushes past me. “And yes, to answer your question, I did, in fact, bring the red bikini.”

She disappears down the hall to the spare bedroom, where she’s sleeping tonight. Because I invited her to stay at my place this weekend rather than at King’s. It’s not that she isn’t welcome there. It’s more that she wants them to have their privacy. It also means I get more time with Hanna, so it’s a win all the way around. And I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t been thinking a lot about time alone with her this weekend.

I change into my swim trunks, pour myself a scotch, heavy on the rocks, and her a glass of wine before I make my way outside. I set the drinks on the outdoor dining table, remove the hot tub cover and check the temperature, making sure it’s not too hot.

Once I carry the drinks over and set them in the cup holders, I sink into the hot, bubbly water, stretch my arms out, let my head fall back and my eyes close. All the time I’ve been spending with Hanna is starting to get to me.

Reminding me that I’m in my forties, and very much still a bachelor. There are a lot of reasons why getting involved with Hanna on a romantic level would not be a good idea. Queenie and King’s relationship being at the forefront.

But she’s fun. And sexy. And we get each other.

A minute later, the sound of the sliding door opening and closing and the slap of flip-flops against the deck have me cracking a lid.

“You better not be sleeping already!” she calls out.

“Not sleeping, just waiting on you.”

I watch as she pulls the tie on her robe and the terry fabric slips over her shoulders, revealing that red bikini I’m such a fan of. Hanna is all curves. Amazing curves. The kind I’ve fantasized about putting my hands on plenty of times over the past several months. And with us spending a lot more time together, it’s been hard not to give in to the constant draw.

I rise from the water and hold out a hand as she climbs the steps. Her fingers slip into my palm, sending a jolt down my spine and a stirring inside my swim trunks.

“Could you try to be a little less beautiful all the time?”I tease as I help her into the tub. “Could you try to have more of a dad bod?” She drags her fingers down my abs, brows waggling, a smile on her gorgeous face. “You are definitely good for my ego, Jake.” She pats me on the chest and sinks into the water on the opposite side of the tub from me.

Which is probably a good thing since I feel like we’re playing with fire tonight. The kind I wouldn’t mind pouring a gallon of gasoline on just to watch it burn brighter.

“That was a great engagement party. I think the kids had fun, don’t you?”She stretches her legs out. Her toes skim the outside of my thigh and I barely resist the urge to run my hand up her calf.

I don’t know what’s in the air tonight, but things seem…different. Heightened.

“Yeah. It was good,” I agree. She pokes me with her toe. “Then why are you frowning? You’ve been off all night. What’s going on?” With all the planning and talks we’ve been having, Hanna and I have gotten to know each other better. And she can read me pretty easily.

“I don’t know. On one hand, I’m happy for King and Queenie and I know he’s going to be a great husband to my daughter, but I spent all these years raising her, and being there for her. They’ve been living together for months, but for some reason, it’s all kind of hitting me. It’s real now.” I take a sip of my scotch. “It’s different from when she went away to college, and even when she moved out of the pool house and in with King. There’s this hole I didn’t expect.”

“It sounds like empty nester’s syndrome.” She moves to the spot beside to me, where the glass of wine I poured her sits.

“Is that what this is? I’m all morose and shit.”

She chuckles and props her elbow on the edge of the tub. “You need to look at it with a fresh perspective, that’s all. You’re not losing your daughter. It’s different with girls. Sure, she’s found her partner in life, but she’s always going to be your baby girl. And the two of you are so close.”

“I don’t know what to do with all of this freedom,” I admit. “My entire life up to this point has been revolved around raising Queenie and my career.”

“Which means you did your job. And that’s a good thing. Think about it, Jake. This is the great part about having a kid young. Sure, you lost out on the freedom of your twenties, but in some ways, this is even better. You’re in your forties. You have a great job, you’re in incredible shape.” She twists and pulls her knee up so it rests against my thigh, her arm extending along the back of the tub, fingertips skimming my . “You have all of your hair.”

“I’m definitely grateful for the last one,” I joke.

“You have great hair.” She runs her fingers through it. “It’s sexy.” She bites her lip and then shakes her head. “Anyway, what I’m saying is, you’re in the prime of your life. Most people in their forties are raising teens, or maybe their kids are getting ready to go to college. You’ve done all that. Now you can just live. You can date. Have fun. Do whatever you want.”

“Fun would be good.”My gaze drops to her lips. “And I’d like to do whatever I want.”

“Me, too.” Her bottom lip slides through her teeth. “Like right now I could kiss you.”

“You definitely could.” I skim her thigh under the water with my fingertips.

She nods. “There’s nothing stopping us.”

“So why aren’t your lips on mine yet?” I ask.

Hanna shifts again, her wet palms come to rest on either side of my jaw, and she presses her soft lips to mine.

I slip my hand under her hair and wrap it around the back of her neck. For a moment, I question whether this is a good idea. But when our lips part and our tongues meet, I forget all the reasons why it might not be.

I groan as I sink into the kiss and our tongues tangle. She tastes fruity, like the wine she’s been drinking. She straddles me and settles in my lap, her breasts pressing against my chest.

She breaks the kiss for a moment and our eyes meet. “I’ve been thinking about this for months.”

“I’ve wanted to know what your lips taste like since the first day I met you,”

REVIEW:

I have loved every book of Helena Hunting’s All In series, and I was so excited when she announced A Kiss For A Kiss. Romance readers are very used to reading about young love or new adult love. It’s not as common to read a more mature love story, but that’s exactly what Hunting gave her readers in this book.

A Kiss For A Kiss was worth every second of the wait, and Helena gave readers an incredibly sweet, sexy, easy-reading surprise baby romance. Jake was the team coach, and the father of Queenie, the heroine from A Secret For A Secret and married to the team’s goalie. He’s a level-headed, even-keeled kind of guy, and after raising his daughter on his own, he’s now in his forties and looking at freedom from those responsibilities for the first time. Hanna has a complicated relationship with King, Queenie’s husband and the goalie, and she meets Jake during the planning of King and Queenie’s wedding. They totally hit it off, and the combustible chemistry between them blazes until they give in. They spend the months leading up to the wedding hooking up in a no-strings-attached kind of way seeing as Jake lives in Seattle and Hanna lives in Tennessee.

Hanna is recently divorced, and the demise of her marriage came shortly after a miscarriage. She was devastated over losing her chance at motherhood, and with perimenopause setting in, she’s all but given up that dream when the surprise of a lifetime rocks both her and Jake’s worlds. I really loved how these two approached everything, and how they ultimately came together, giving in to the feelings that had been building and all that glorious chemistry. Jake was a wonderful partner to Hanna, and I loved how he supported her through everything. I loved watching them grow as a couple and a team, and I loved the side story of Hanna working through her relationship with King.

Hunting told a captivating and endearing love story in A Kiss For A Kiss. It was so romantic and steamy and just packed full of all the feels. I was completely swept up in Jake and Hanna’s story, and I couldn’t put this book down. I loved every minute of their journey to happily ever after. Five smooches from me for A Kiss For A Kiss by Helena Hunting!

EXCERPT:

“Chrissy!” Both syllables exploded out of Wolf’s throat like cannon blasts.

He didn’t feel the pavement pounding beneath his flip flops. Didn’t feel the hot air filling his lungs. Didn’t even notice the scrape of the bay cedar shrub as it grazed the denim covering his back shin when he hurdled over it. All he knew was that the only woman he had ever loved was inches away from becoming a hood ornament, and—

Damn, this is gonna hurt, he thought as she turned to him a split second before he caught her in his arms. Her eyes were wide with shock. Her sweet mouth was open around a startled scream. But she didn’t have time to let loose with it. The Toyota was upon them and he jumped into the air, taking her with him.

Twisting his body so it was his back that slid across the hot metal hood of the speeding car, he did his best to protect her injured shoulder. And then they were airborne again, the unyielding pavement coming up to meet them way, way too quickly.

He heard himself grunt when he hit the ground, Chrissy’s weight driving him into the surface. His lungs felt like they’d been flattened by a mallet, and he would have liked nothing better than to lie there and catch his breath, take stock of his body and Christina’s, but the Celica was making for the parking lot exit and—

“Get—” he wheezed, flinging his arm toward the fishtailing sedan when he saw the uniformed policeman sprinting in their direction. “The plate!” he finally managed.

“No need.” Officer Ryan shook his head as he squatted beside them. “I know exactly who that was.” He activated the radio clipped to his bulletproof vest. “Dispatch, this is Officer Ryan over at Lower Keys Medical Center. Be advised, Cliff Barnes is behind the wheel of his Toyota and headed south on Kennedy Drive. Get officers to take him off the road. He nearly ran over a couple of folks, and God knows he might not miss next time.”

“Roger that.” A crackling voice sounded from the officer’s radio. “Dispatching units now.”

Apparently, when it came to drunken bumper cars, this Cliff character was a repeat offender. Just my luck, Wolf thought, patting Chrissy’s uninjured shoulder and taking comfort in the sound of her ribald cursing.

He lifted his chin to check on her and found her face-first in his crotch. He’d managed to protect her from the impact, but he’d skidded afterward. Apparently she hadn’t done the same.

“You okay, darlin’?” His vision had returned to normal and he could clearly see the look on her face was equal parts did that truly just happen? and holy shit!

She made an unequivocal sound at the back of her throat that could’ve passed for either a yes or a no. Tentatively, she felt of the bandage over her shoulder and then nodded.

“I’m so sorry, Miss Szarek.” Officer Ryan was still squatted next to them. “I was on the phone and didn’t hear—”

“It’s okay.” Chrissy cut him off. “Wolf was Johnny on the Spot.” She pushed up on her good elbow and then stared down at his crotch.

Now that the danger had passed, the devil that lived in Wolf had him saying before he could think better of it, “You don’t have to do that, darlin’. A simple thanks for keepin’ me from gettin’ my ass run over will do.”

Her lips flattened into a straight line. “Did you binge eat asshole flakes this morning?”

His lungs hadn’t fully recovered, so the laugh that burst out of him sounded wheezy.

“I swear, right when I’m starting to like you,” she added, “you go and prove you’re a…a…”

He used her fumbling to help her stand, taking quick stock of his injures. A cherry on his elbow that would burn like a bitch when he washed it, and maybe a bruised tailbone.

Not too shabby. Considering.

“A what?” he prompted when they were both back on their feet.

“A guy,” she finished with a huff.

Wolf blinked at Officer Ryan, feigning bewilderment. “She says that like it’s a bad thing.”

About Julie Ann Walker:

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Julie grew up in a house full of women – she has three older sisters. As you can imagine, there was no lack of drama… or romance. Her mother enrolled her in a book club as soon as she began to read and it was the small spark that ignited her voracious appetite for the written word.

Because of Julie’s early immersion in literature, she found writing came quite naturally. In high school, she won multiple writing contests and was the proud senior editor of The Tiger’s Tale – her school newspaper.

During her college years, however, she longed for a challenge. “Reading and writing felt like second nature to me, so I looked for a way to flex my mental muscles,” she recalls. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, Julie began teaching advanced high school mathematics.

“I loved working with the students and facing the challenges of the classroom, but I longed for the occasional snow day when I could race to the local book store, buy two or three new novels, and curl up in front of the fire to read.”

It wasn’t until a fortuitous move to Chicago that Julie once more returned to her first passion.

Now Julie loves to travel the world looking for views to compete with her deadlines. When she’s not writing, she enjoys camping, hiking, cycling, cooking, petting every dog that walks by her, and… reading, of course!

Like any cowboy, he’s good with a rope and knows exactly how to tie me up.

But what if I want him to tie me down?

Just friends.

That’s all Beckett Weaver and I have ever been.

Sure, he’s a hot cowboy who left Wall Street behind to take over his family’s ranch. Yes, I’ve had a secret crush on him since we were seventeen. And who wouldn’t appreciate those strong hands, that massive chest, and the way he fills out a pair of Levis?

He makes a girl sweat just looking at him . . . and I look. A lot.

But I’m a single mom trying to move on with my life, and he’s running that ranch single-handedly while taking care of his elderly father. We don’t even live in the same state. I only returned to my hometown of Bellamy Creek to sell my late mother’s house, and he just invited me and my son to stay with him because he’s got a big heart.

That’s not the only big thing he’s got–which I discover the night I finally sneak across the hall to his bedroom and shed my inhibitions right alongside my pajamas. And once we give into each other, we can’t stop.

The hayloft. The bed of his truck. The dock by the pond.

Nothing has ever felt so right, but his past has taught him not to believe in happily ever after, and every perfect night I spend in his arms brings us closer to goodbye.

EXCERPT:

When Beckett reached the landing, he headed for his bedroom.

“Night.”

I opened my mouth to say goodnight—I swear I did.

But that’s not what came out.

“I need to tell you something,” I blurted.

He turned and faced me.

“I want to answer your question.” My heart raced, and my fingers locked over my stomach.

“What question?”

“You asked me—last night—why I always chose jerks.”

“You said you didn’t know.”

“I lied. I do know.”

He was silent a moment. “So tell me.”

I took a step toward him. “I chose jerks because they didn’t ask anything of me. They didn’t expect anything of me. They didn’t even want much from me—just skin.”

Beckett took a deep breath, his chest expanding.

“That’s why I couldn’t be with you,” I whispered.

“Because you think I would have expected perfection?”

“Because you would have deserved it.”

He exhaled and shook his head. “You’re wrong.”

“I’m sorry. This is stupid.” I squeezed my eyes shut a moment. “I don’t even know why I’m telling you this right now. It’s not like I can go back and do things differently. I guess I just wish I would have been brave enough to tell you the truth back then.”

“What’s the truth?”

“That I wish I could have been yours. I know you would have been good to me.”

He said nothing for ten full seconds, during which my heart banged painfully against my ribs and I regretted everything.

“Listen, forget I said anything,” I said quickly. “I don’t know what Blair puts in that apple pie, but—”

“I have something to tell you too.”

I swallowed. “You do?”

“Yeah. Several things, actually.” He moved closer to me, so close I could feel his breath on my lips. “First, I’m glad you finally answered my question. It’s been bothering me for fifteen years. Second, you’re right. I would have been good to you. And third, no—we can’t go back and do things differently. The past is past.”

“Yes. Well, goodnight.” Tears of mortification burning my eyes, I spun away from him, but he grabbed my arm.

“But there’s one more thing.”

“What?” I whispered.

“I sleep with my bedroom door open. But I want you to think hard before you take advantage of that. Because I’m not eighteen anymore, and I’m no longer in the mood to be a gentleman.”

Then he let go of my arm and disappeared across the hall.

With my legs trembling, I slipped into my room, shut the door and leaned back against it, fanning my face.

Holy. Shit.

He’d left it up to me.

But his invitation was clear. I hadn’t imagined it.

And before I thought about it too hard and blew my chance to be with him, I raced into the bathroom, pulled my braids out, and brushed my teeth. Back in my bedroom, I whipped off my clothes and pulled on the pineapple-print tank and matching shorts I’d brought to sleep in. Not exactly my sexiest lingerie, but in my defense, seduction hadn’t been on my to-do list when I’d packed my bags.

Then I took a deep breath, opened my door, and snuck across the hall.

REVIEW:

I love a good small town romance. Give me some quirky, all up in your business, everybody-knows-everybody characters and a sweet, sexy romance, and I’m happy as a clam. Melanie Harlow writes some seriously fantastic small town romances, and she definitely is one of my suppliers of choice to feed that need of mine. Set in a charming small town in Michigan, her Bellamy Creek series has a bit of an Americana vibe to it, and it’s full of interesting characters and some seriously swoon-worthy love stories.

Tie Me Down was a bit of a hybrid romance. Part friends-to-lovers, part second-chance romance, it had all those lovely small town romance vibes that I love. Beckett and Maddie grew up together, and in high school, they had a special friendship—that basically acted as a cover for the crushes they both harbored on each other. Maddie, a single mom, is back in Bellamy Creek with her young son following her divorce to get her deceased mother’s home fixed up and on the market. An extremely successful former Wall Street executive, Beckett left the big city scene behind to return home to run his family’s ranch and care for his aging father who was in the beginning stages of dementia. Maddie hasn’t been back to Bellamy Creek for years, and she didn’t realize the state of disrepair her mother’s home had fallen into. Thankfully Beckett did, and he offered her and her son a place to stay while she worked on cleaning up and selling her mom’s house.

They have always skirted around their feelings for and attraction to each other. While Beckett and Maddie avoided or ignored the chemistry crackling between them, pretty much everyone who knew them saw it. Between being together under Beckett’s roof, picking up their friendship where they left off, and the fact that they’re two adults who are still very much drawn to each other, well, it’s no surprise that they finally act on that attraction. Beckett has some trust issues related to his mother, and he just doesn’t believe relationships can last. He desperately wants Maddie, but he won’t allow himself to make her any promises. After everything Maddie went through with her ex-husband, she needs those promises, those declarations and that commitment.

Tie Me Down was exactly what I love about small town romances. Beckett and Maddie’s romance was sweet and sexy, and I smiled and swooned the whole way through this easy-reading, entertaining and addictive romance. Tie Me Down by Melanie Harlow gets 4.5 smooches from me!

REVIEW:

I was so excited when Kristen Ashley first teased this series in 2019, and having now read three of the books, I can say it was worth the wait and the hype. I absolutely loved her Dream Man series, and it appears often in my KA reread rotation. Hawk Delgado’s commandos were always these interesting, elusive guys popping up when everyone needed them most. I wanted to know more about them then, and it’s been fantastic getting to know them now.

The Dream Team series is KA’s newest series and focuses on characters who’ve really only been alluded to in her previous books and series. KA readers often wax poetic about “old school KA,” a reference to her early writings which are widely viewed as some of the greatest contemporary romances of our time. This is a contentious issue among diehard KA fans, and for me personally, I think she has done a great job sating the demands of the old school KA crowd with this series by delivering three stories that have been comfortingly familiar yet still felt brand-spanking-new. In this series, she’s given readers stories that are wonderfully nostalgic but with a fresh spin.

One thing we KA readers can all agree upon is that her stories aren’t just about the hot guy hero. He’s definitely a star, but her heroines get equal billing, and rightfully so. They’re dynamic woman, who don’t just hold their own but give as good as they get in the face of all that alpha-man-hotness. These women are strong, sassy, sexy and smart, and they have a fierce, fearless, fabulous tribe of female friends who define what it means to belong to a sisterhood. I read KA stories just as much for those female-positive friendships as I do for those suspense-filled, swoon-worthy, steamy romances they’re swept up in. In Dream Spinner, KA gives her heroine, Hattie, a solid support system in Smithie’s girls, and their brand of mischief-making, alpha-male-wrangling and sisterhood definitely holds up against that of the Rock Chicks or the Chaos old ladies – who make appearances and welcome the strippers into the Denver-based sisterhood fold.

Axl and Hattie each come to the table with their own full plate of issues. Hattie, a ballerina turned stripper, is more than just shy. She’s a survivor of verbal, mental and physical abuse, and in an attempt to conceal that, she uses her  shyness as a cloak. Axl’s one of Hawk’s commandos. Former military, he’s got his own parental problems with a deeply critical, narcissistic father. Axl wants Hattie bad, and he’s made that plain, and Hattie wants him just as bad but she is so wrapped up in the mental turmoil of self-doubt and her perceived unworthiness that she just can’t allow herself to have him. It was positively heartbreaking to witness this woman’s pain, but let me tell you, it was a glorious balm to that pain watching this woman come into her own. When she finally was ready for Axl, it was her turn to do the work, and she definitely put in the effort. Once they crossed that bridge, they were both all-in, hand-in-hand, healing their hurts and hearts and building a beautiful life together. There was just that one pesky stalker to deal with first, though…

Unquestionably, KA is an OG romance author—her alpha-males, her heroines, their suspensefully gripping, emotional love stories and those soul-enriching friendships have inspired countless others who have followed in this author’s footsteps. Dream Spinner was everything I love about Kristen Ashley’s brand of romance, and then some. A shy, somewhat broken heroine finding her voice, and a protective, caring alpha male in a love story full of feels and fire and wrapped up in a hair-raising suspense plot is the literary equivalent of catnip for me. I practically inhaled this book, loving every single second of it as I got lost in this world and these characters and their stories. I didn’t want to put it down, I didn’t want it to end, and I’m ready and waiting for the next book, sadly the final book, in the series. Another top favorite of the year from this author, Dream Spinner by Kristen Ashley gets five smooches from me!

EXCERPT:

“Yo, Axe,” Hawk greeted.

“You got a minute?”

In answer, Hawk tipped his head to the chair opposite his desk and tossed his phone on the top of it.

Since Hawk rarely sat, the men who visited him didn’t either.

But for this, Axl closed the door behind him after he entered, moved to a chair, and put his ass in it.

Hawk watched this, and he hesitated, but then he joined him, sitting behind his desk.

“Is everything cool?” Hawk asked.

“I got a sitch. Personal. And I was hoping you might talk it through with me. Maybe have some insight.”

“Hit me,” Hawk invited.

And there was one of the bennies of working for Cabe “Hawk” Delgado.

He was a good boss, generous with his knowledge, gave credit where it was due, didn’t get in your face if you fucked up and held up your hand that you did…

And he had time for you even when he didn’t.

“I met Hattie’s dad last night.”

Hawk’s lips thinned.

Right.

His boss might not be in on their chats, but not much happened with his crew that Hawk didn’t know about.

So he knew about Don Yates.

“I got blindsided,” Axl told him.

“How?” Hawk asked.

“He loves her, Hawk.”

Hawk held his gaze a beat before he sat back in his chair.

Yeah.

This was going to be a conversation.

Hawk’s voice was lower when he inquired, “He loves her, and he hits her?”

Axl shook his head. “I got no excuse for that. Or the verbal abuse he keeps doling out. What I know is, recently, he called her a whore.”

“Jesus,” Hawk clipped.

“She didn’t tell me that. She told Ryn, Ryn told Boone. And I got it from Boone. But before…” He paused, then got to it, “I can’t step in with her dad. She knows their relationship is dysfunctional. She feels beholden. I could only have her back. Until I heard that. Then I shared I was going to have to have words with her father.”

“Good,” Hawk murmured.

“Then I got there, and the man was practically beaming, he was so fuckin’ happy Hattie brought her boyfriend over to meet him.”

“Fuck,” Hawk grunted.

“So we sat down. He gave me the ‘What do you do for a living’ and ‘How’d you meet my daughter’ gig. I answered. All was good. Then I told him I couldn’t have him upsetting Hattie like he did by calling her a whore. He tried to explain it by saying he was in a bad mood. I told him, in future, if he was in a bad mood, he needed not to take that out on Hattie.”

“On your first meeting,” Hawk noted.

“On our first meeting,” Axl confirmed.

“Which happened…what? How long have you been seeing her? A few days?”

“Yep.”

“You laid down the law with your woman’s father the first time you met him after you’ve been with her a few days,” Hawk laid it out.

“Yep.”

“Christ, Axe, you don’t fuck around,” Hawk muttered.
