Our love was born from the embers, and together we would go up in flames…

In the aftermath of tragedy, it’s strange the things you remember.

The deafening boom as the house exploded.

The paralyzing fear as I searched for my wife.

The blinding smoke burning my eyes as I carried her out.

But carved into my soul for the rest of my days would be the earth-shattering realization that the woman in my arms wasn’t my wife.

Bree and I were the only survivors—not that either of us were truly living after that night. As a single dad with nowhere else to go, I moved into her guest house. And somehow, through the guilt and grief, we forged an unlikely team.

It took years, but I watched the gradual return of her smile—slow and life-altering.

The two of us could sit outside for hours, talking about nothing, and it filled the massive hole in my chest with new life.

I may have carried her out of that fire, but the truth was, Bree saved me.

As we healed, the secrets and lies of the past smoldered in the ashes, threatening to ignite again.

Our love was born from the embers, and together we would go up in flames.

EXCERPT:

Using my arm to block my face, I carried her lifeless body to the door. The knob seared my palm as I yanked it open, but the pain didn’t even register through the adrenaline. The sound of my feet pounding down the driveway echoed in my ears as the fire crackled behind me. Our closest neighbor was over half a mile away, but there was no way they hadn’t heard the explosion. The fire department would be there soon.

Once I got Jessica safe, I’d go back for Bree. They’d find Rob. Everyone would be okay.

“Eason,” she croaked in my arms.

My feet were still moving as I sprinted away, but time stopped as her voice permeated my senses.

It wasn’t possible.

She was covered in soot, and my eyes were caked with ash and what I would later learn to be blood, but I could still make out the large flowers on her yellow—

“Uh, no. It’s my dress that your wife borrowed and I had to do an entire Tom Cruise Mission Impossible thing to get it back last week.”

Oh, God.

I kept running until the wind changed direction, clearing the smoke. With my heart in my throat, I prayed that my still ringing ears had deceived me. I set her down and used the inside of my shirt to clear my face.

“Eason,” she croaked.

But once again, she wasn’t my wife.

“Oh, God,” I breathed, watching as she rose on unsteady legs. Tears carved twin riverbeds through the ash on her cheeks.

“What happened?” Bree asked, her green eyes focused on the blazing inferno behind me.

Acrid guilt devoured me. “I…”

I saved the wrong woman.

I left the mother of my child in a burning building.

My final broken promise to the woman I’d vowed forever to was, “I’ll be right back.”

Bile crawled up my throat. “I don’t know.”

I glanced back at the house, the heat of the roaring fire scorching me even from yards away. Overwhelming grief hit me as I realized there was no way I could get back through those flames.

Oh, God. Jessica.

In the middle of tragedy, it’s strange the things that become engrained into your memories. Years later, I wouldn’t be able to tell you how long it took the firetrucks to get there. I couldn’t tell you what time it was or what I had been wearing. But I would never be able to forget the absolute devastation on Bree’s face when she realized we were the only two standing outside the burning house.

“Where’s Rob?” she rasped, her voice sounding like it had traveled over a mile of gravel before exiting her throat. “And Jessica. Where are they?” She took an urgent stride toward me.

“I tried…” I doubled over into a fit of coughing. It was probably for the best. There was no way I could have finished that thought.

REVIEW:

I’m sitting here after finishing From the Embers, head still spinning, as I wrap my mind around what I just read. Let me start by just saying that if you’ve read Aly Martinez’s work before, well, then you know. YOU. KNOW. This author is amazing, and her ability to tell a difficult love story is impressive. But this book? Well, this book is some seriously next level writing. This is unlike anything you’ve ever read before, from Martinez or anyone else for that matter.

At its core, this is a contemporary romance, but Martinez weaves in the threads of second-chances, enemies becoming lovers and suspense, and the result was a wonderfully addictive story that had me hanging on every word. I don’t want to give a single one of those words away, though, so I’m just going to warn you to brace. From the Embers is essentially about overcoming a devastating loss and the resulting redemption and rebirth following it. But Martinez puts her readers through the wringer of twists and turns through unimaginable betrayal, unfathomable deception and the kind of deceit that can only be described as unhinged.

Through a complex and complicated web of lies, Martinez delivered a raw and emotional story that was shocking, shattering—catastrophic. But through all that pain, a reawakening eventually dawned for this couple. This was perhaps one of the most hard fought, well earned, full-circle kind of love stories I’ve ever read. Martinez pulled me into this story from the first page, and she owned me by commanding all of my time and attention with a completely engrossing story that pulled every on heart string as I felt all these feels. My heart raced, ached and broke, over and over, for this couple, and just when I thought there couldn’t possibly be more to their story, my goodness, there was.

From the Embers was passionate, poignant and positively unputdownable. This is one of the most all-consuming romances I’ve ever read, and without question it’s now not only a top favorite of the year but also an all-time top favorite. Martinez’s writing here was absolutely brilliant, and she masterfully told a captivating and memorable story. Five smooches from me for From the Embers by Aly Martinez.

Fortunate Son by Jay Crownover Cover Reveal

FORTUNATE SON, a new frenemies-to-lovers romance that will launch the highly anticipated Forever Marked: The Second Generation of the Marked Men series from New York Times Bestselling Author, Jay Crownover, is coming on June 22! I’m so excited to share the cover with you today!

Title:  FORTUNATE SON

Series:  FOREVER MARKED: THE SECOND GENERATION OF THE MARKED MEN (#1)

Author:  JAY CROWNOVER

Cover Designer:  HANG LE

Photographer:  WANDER AGUIAR

Release Date:  JUNE 22, 2021

Ry Archer and Bowe Keller are as different as night and day. But that doesn’t stop the childhood frenemies from reconnecting whenever one of them needs some help tackling any of life’s major puzzles, like figuring out why getting what you always thought you wanted isn’t living up to all the hype. They might constantly rub each other the wrong way (except for the times when they rub each other the really-really right way), but there is no denying they’ve always made one hell of a great team. They manage to balance each other out… when they aren’t driving each other crazy.

For Ry, he thought he had the perfect girl, the one who was going to run headfirst into a methodically planned future. He was going to marry young and have the same kind of legendary, life-long romance his parents did… or so he believed. His girl was going to stand by his side as he chased his dream of being a professional football player all the way to the NFL.

He was wrong.

Now, Ry’s gotta figure out the difference between a bruised heart and a broken one, and the only person who can teach him the difference is Bowe.

Bowe always felt like she had to run before she learned to walk to keep up with her father’s musical legacy. He’s her hero, and she wants nothing more than to make him proud. Bowe’s about to figure out that maybe she wasn’t meant to be in a rock and roll band and that it is possible she let her father’s success cloud her idea of what making music should be. Bowe needs to find her own path to fame, and there’s a good chance she wouldn’t be brave enough or bold enough to start over if Ry Archer hadn’t charmed his way back into her life when she least expected it.

Some days they’re enemies. Other days they’re lovers. For a while, they were strangers. But now, it feels more like they might have always been soulmates.

Eventually, Ry and Bowe realize that letting go of an old dream and creating a new one is much easier to do with the right person by your side.

New York Times Bestselling author Corinne Michaels returns to the Willow Creek Valley Series in this stunning small town, brother’s best friend romance.

Fifteen years ago, I fell for Jack O’Donnell.

I was just a girl, but I knew my brother’s best friend was the only man I’d ever love.

On my eighteenth birthday, when I asked him to kiss me, I never imagined it would change my life so completely.

I gave Jack everything that night.

But even that wasn’t as heartbreaking as the secret we were forced to keep.

I’ve tried not to think about how much I still love him. How I long to be back in his strong arms or the way his hazel eyes make my heart race.

Until he kisses me again. And this time there’s no turning back. This time I know what it means.

We belong together and there’s no use denying it any longer.

But our feelings aren’t the only thing that won’t stay buried, our past resurfaces and threatens to destroy our second chance at happiness.

EXCERPT:

I walk over to the bar and grab a drink while I do my best to forget the last three minutes of my life. I’ve been handling things with Stella. I’ve learned that love isn’t for me. I don’t get the girl in the end, she’s not for me.

She’s meant for love and happiness and a family.

I toss back the drink the bartender set in front of me. Then, as fate would fucking have it, I feel her beside me.

“I thought weddings were supposed to be happy,” Stella says as she grabs a glass of wine.

“They are.”

She laughs once. “Neither of us looks very happy.”

“We both know the truth about it all.” I turn to her, my elbow resting on the bar.

“And what’s that?”

“That love and happiness don’t go hand in hand.”

Stella shakes her head. “And I thought I was the jaded one.” She brings the glass to her lips and takes a long sip. “That’s where you’re wrong. They are happy because they’re in love.”

“And what about the people who are in love but are miserable?”

She drains her glass and places it down. “Follow me and you can find out.”

There’s no pause before her exit, she just walks out of the tent.

I look around to see if anyone notices, but everyone is drinking, laughing, dancing, and smiling, not paying attention to Stella and me.

So, like a dog with a bone, I follow her. My feet are moving before my mind can think better of it. I trail along the path she took, and when I get to the tree line, she calls my name softly.

I move into the forest, finding her in a small clearing where the sun is coming through the leaves, making her look like an angel.

“What are we doing here?”

She lifts her head, a beam of light catching her dark brown hair and causing it to shimmer. “We’re breathing, Jack.”

“Don’t we pretty much do that each minute?” I ask, moving closer to her.

Like a magnet, she pulls me in.

Her eyes meet mine, and she smiles. “No, I don’t think either of us do. I think we fight it.” She steps toward me. “I think that if we didn’t, if we really inhaled, we’d find that it hurts.”

“I don’t want to hurt you,” I tell her.

“I know.”

“Everything I do is to avoid that.”

Stella takes another step. Slowly, her hand lifts to rest on my cheek. “I know that too, but you avoiding me, Jack, it hurts. I’ve been in love with you for . . . God, fifteen years.”

The restraint I’m using to keep from grabbing her causes my arms to shake. I can’t move or I’ll fuck everything up. I’ll take her in my arms and kiss her until the only breath she knows is mine. I’ll . . . No. I can’t. I won’t.

“This is why love and happiness don’t exist,” I tell her.

“No, it’s because you’re afraid. Tell me you don’t want me right now. Tell me that, when I touch you, you don’t wish it would never end.” She moves closer, her chest brushes against mine, and I swear I’m going to fucking die. “Tell me that you don’t love me the way I love you.”

I have to lie because if I say the truth, then we will just be back where we started. Even if I tell her the truth, it won’t change our circumstances.

I take her wrist, pulling her palm away from my face. “I don’t feel that way.”

Anger flares in those brown eyes. She knows me too well. “So, you’re going to pretend? Like . . . it’s nothing?”

“It’s better this way,” I tell her.

My heart is pounding, and when I try to let her go, she grabs the lapels of my jacket. “We have to deal with this. We can’t . . . we can’t pretend anymore. You still have feelings for me, I know you do!”

Yes, I do. I fucking love her enough to stay away because we will never work.

Instead of telling her that, I dig deeper into the lie. “I don’t.”

She shakes her head, tears starting to fill her gaze. “Lies,” she whispers. “Tell me the truth for once.”

“I do . . . I can’t.”

Why can’t she fucking see it? If I let myself love her, then we won’t be able to go back. We’ll have to tell everyone the truth. The number of lies we’ve told over the years will unravel and it will destroy everything.

“You can’t pretend with me, Jack.” Her hands fall away, and I make a grave mistake.

I reach for her. She comes to me instantly, her hands on my chest as I hold her close, making one last attempt. One chance for her to see what I’m saying before I do everything I said I wouldn’t. “We can’t. God, Stella, we can’t.”

Her eyes flutter, and her lips part. And then, like the bastard I’ve always been, I stop fighting and kiss her.

“Get your fucking hands off my sister,” Grayson says from behind us.

REVIEW:

Corinne Michaels is an evil genius. Vicious in the way she toys and torments her readers with the emotions of her characters. She literally warns readers of this in the bio on her website where she states that “she enjoys putting her characters through intense heartbreak.” And boy does she ever do exactly that. Corinne doles out gut-wrenching stories like a mom passing out juice boxes to toddlers at the park, and I’m right there on the kiddie line for my Capri Sun. Brace for impact, folks, because Ms. Michaels is back, doing her thing and clearly living her best life with her latest novel, Could Have Been Us. A trying and tumultuous tale full of twists and turns, secrets and steam, love and longing. Prepare yourselves because this is one of those can’t-put-it-down but oh-my-gosh-I’m-reading-too-fast kind of stories, and you’re going to love it, I sure did.

Stella and Jack, the little sister and the older brother’s best friend. A story as old as time, but one Michaels breathes new life into through the trials and tribulations of this couple. Stella and Jack’s story was a second-chance at first love of sorts, but on an epic scale. Having met as children through Jack’s friendship with Stella’s older brother, Grayson, they had their own history and friendship. Those feelings morphed and changed, and their fate was drastically changed one beautiful night. Outside manipulations coupled with poor timing results in an unimaginable sacrifice that left them both broken and scarred in its wake. I felt every single bit of this tragedy and all the resulting pain of it. Neither one of them truly healed or moved on from it, and Michaels left me in tatters as she took me through their heartbreak.

But as Corinne is known to do, she heals her characters, and thus her readers, after she strikes those brutal blows. An unthinkable situation winds its way into salvation for Jack and Stella, forcing them confront their past in surprising ways. I definitely ached for this couple and all that they went through, but I also felt such tremendous hope for them. But what I loved most about them was when they finally made the decision to be together, they were rock solid and all in, regardless of what was thrown at them.

An all-consuming second-chance romance, Could Have Been Us was Corinne Michaels’ signature blend of angsty feels, steam and romance. Michaels storytelling was so incredible in this engrossing love story, and I simply couldn’t tap my Kindle fast enough. I loved every word of this story, and I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. Five smooches from me for Could Have Been Us by Corinne Michaels!

EXCERPT:

A sudden growl of warning came from the largest wolven I’d ever seen. Kieran and Vonetta’s father stood to my right. Jasper had officiated the marriage between Casteel and me in Spessa’s End. He’d been there when Nyktos showed his approval by briefly turning day to night. But now, the steel-hued wolven’s lips peeled back, baring teeth that could tear through flesh and break bone. He was loyal to Casteel, and yet instinct told me that it wasn’t just the guards he warned.

Another snarl came from my left. In the shadows of the blood tree that had sprouted from where my blood had fallen and then grew to a massive height within seconds, a fawn-colored wolven crept into my line of sight, head dipped low, and wintery blue eyes iridescent. Kieran. He stared down Casteel. I didn’t understand why either of them would behave this way toward the Prince, but especially Kieran. He had been bonded to Casteel from birth, meant to obey and protect him at all costs. But he was more than a bonded wolven to Casteel. They were brothers, if not by blood then by friendship, and I knew they loved each other.

Right now, nothing about the way Kieran’s ears were pinned back was loving.

Unease skipped its way through me as Kieran sank down, the sleek muscles of his legs tensing as he prepared to attack…Casteel.

My stomach plummeted. This wasn’t right. None of this was right. “No,” I rasped, my voice hoarse and barely recognizable, even to my ears.

Kieran didn’t appear to hear me or care. If he had been acting normally, I would’ve just assumed he was attempting to ignore me, but this was different. He was different. His eyes were brighter than I ever remembered seeing, and they weren’t right because they…they weren’t just blue now. His pupils glowed silvery-white, an aura that seeped out in wispy tendrils across the blue. My head jerked to Jasper. His eyes had changed, too. I’d seen that strange light before. It had been what my skin had done when I healed Beckett’s broken legs—the same silvery glow that had radiated from me minutes earlier.

Icy bursts of surprise raced through Casteel as he eyed the wolven, and then I felt…relief radiate from him.

“You all knew.” Casteel’s voice filled with awe, something no one standing behind him felt. Even the easy grin was absent from the auburn-haired Atlantian. Emil looked at us with wide eyes, broadcasting a healthy dose of fear, as did Naill, who had always appeared utterly unfazed by everything—even when he’d been outnumbered in battle.

The Virgin Rule Book by Lauren Blakely Blog Tour

THE VIRGIN RULE BOOK, a friends-to-lovers, brother’s best friend romance launching the brand-new Rules of Love series from #1 New York Times Bestselling Author, Lauren Blakely, is available now!

The more time I spend with Crosby, the more I keep imagining how much I want him to take my V-card…

A sexy, brother’s best friend sports romance from # 1 New York Times bestseller Lauren Blakely!

Let me make a few things clear. I didn’t go to the wedding intending to dance with the best man, to dare him to show me a very sexy pic on his phone, or to accidentally kiss him in the hotel elevator after the reception ended.

But you know how it goes. Things just happen at weddings…

The next day, Crosby and I agree to put all those shenanigans behind us. The fun-loving, stupidly gorgeous, all-star baseball player might be my brother’s best friend, but he’s my friend too and has been for years, so it’s easy to move on, especially because I have a high-profile business to run.

But since he’s newly single and I’m always single, it turns out we both desperately need plus ones. We agree to “publicly date” over the next two weeks of galas, parties and events before his baseball season begins.

The only trouble is the more time I spend with Crosby, the more I keep imagining how much I want him to take my V-card.

And when I broach the possibility with Crosby, his answer surprises the hell out of me.

REVIEW:

I love a good sports romance as much as the next girl, and Lauren Blakely knocked it out of the park with the first book in the Rules of Love series. I listed to the audio, and Teddy Hamilton and Erin Mallon were perfection. Blakely doubled down with some of my favorite tropes – brother’s best friend and friends-to-lovers – in this sweet and sassy sports romance, and I was here for every word of it.

I loved Nadia. She’s a successful, powerful female NFL team owner holding her own in the male-dominated world of professional sports. But she also had a vulnerable, innocent side, too, that made her quite relatable, despite being a billionaire, and was something that caused problems in her personal life. Crosby, a professional baseball player, is Nadia’s brother’s best friend, and having grown up together, he and Nadia have their own solid friendship rooted in history, respect and a bit of what both assume is some unrequited crushing. With some events coming up that they’ll both be attending, they agree to be each other’s plus one, and this is where the fun begins. Their youthful crushes begin to resurface, and the chemistry begins to sizzle. There was a natural ease between Crosby and Nadia, and it played a big part in the organic transition to lovers. Their romance was positively brimming with all those can’t-keep-my-hands-off-you, crush-turning-to-more kind of feels, and it translated into a feel-good love story was heart-racing and heat-filled.

The thing I love most about Lauren Blakely’s romances is that they aren’t painfully angsty or overly dramatic–they’re the flipside of the coin. She pens love stories that are, cover-to-cover, an absolute pleasure to read. The kinds of books that you’re happy to start and that make you happier the more you read. That’s exactly what kind of book she gives her readers here in The Virgin Rule Book, and I didn’t want to pause this story! I was so totally swept up in Nadia and Crosby’s love story, I listened to it practically straight through. I’m so excited about this series – Lauren introduced several side characters whose stories I can’t wait to get my hands on! Five smooches from me for The Virgin Rule Book by Lauren Blakely!

Release Date:  AUGUST 10, 2021

Hangry: adjective—feeling irritable or irrationally angry as a result of being hungry.

Sometimes, Crockett felt that in her soul.

And, of course, the one time that she’s being ‘irrationally angry’ would be the time that the hottest guy on the continent walked into her place of business dressed in prison orange.

She should’ve been afraid.

She should’ve taken one look at him and walked the other way.

But, she didn’t.

Crockett Archer, better known as a doormat extraordinaire, didn’t walk away from the people she knew needed her. She’d never been able to do it with a father that didn’t love her, and she wouldn’t be able to do it with a man that didn’t think he deserved a chance at love.

One look is all it takes for Zach Caruso to know that Crockett could be his.

All he would have to do is snap his fingers, and she’d fall right into the palm of his hand.

Which is why Zach turns around and walks far, far away.

He tries not to look back.

He tries to leave her be.

But then he sees how she’s treated by the people that are supposed to love her, and all cognitive thoughts seem to flee his rational brain.

One second, he’s running in the opposite direction. The next, he’s playing her knight in dingy armor.
