Synopsis
**Standalone Contemporary Romance**
He found me in blood and tears.
I stayed with him through darkness and fire.
We loved each other in the moment between innocence and bitter truth.
We were the kids easily ignored, who grew into adults we hardly knew.
We weren’t meant to last forever. And we didn’t.
He ran away.
I tried to move on.
Yet I never stopped thinking about the boy who had fought to keep me alive in a world that would have swallowed me whole. He was the past that I buried, but never forgot.
Until the day I found him again, years after believing I had lost him forever.
And in cold, resentful eyes, I saw the heart of the man who had been everything when I had nothing at all. So I vowed to hold onto the second chance that was stolen from the children we had been.
Sometimes fate is ugly. Life can be twisted.
And who we are can be ruined by who we once were.
For two people who had survived so much, we would have to learn how to hold on before we were forced to let go.
Review
Gosh, I have thought about this book a lot in the days since I have read it. This one was just an incredibly different and unique story that it stuck with me long after I finished reading it. Also, One Day Soon was a bit darker than I am used to from this author. The subject matter and the love story is quite tragic and gritty and I admit I was a bit shocked. I have read a lot of this authors work and this one just seemed so different than her other books but man, it is a really amazing story.
‘Even with I had nothing, he was everything.’
Gah, this one ripped my heart out. The story jumped back and forth between past and present pretty seamlessly and I felt myself equally enthralled with both parts of Yoss and Imi’s story. The circumstances under which these children meet literally tore me up but to see their young selves love each other really was beautiful and then when they are reunited I couldn’t help but root for them to reconnect even though I had so many many questions about why they parted in the first place. And while their story unfolded I was literally on the edge of my seat and completely sick with grief for these two sweet people.
‘No matter how horrified she had been, her love held her prisoner. It was up to me to set her free.’
Sometimes this author has been known to not give me the exact happy ending that I am hoping for so I was sweating this a little bit as the story progressed. But man, that ending was something special. And the writing through out the entire story was just so brilliant. I always know if the book is beautifully written because I end up highlighting half of the book and One Day Soon was bright yellow all over after I finished. This is a beautiful, tragic romance full of the kind of gut churning angst that I love in my ugly cry books. Get it now!
‘He fed me his dreams and I had given him mine. There wasn’t a piece of his soul that I didn’t recognize and claim as my own.’
