**Book 1 in The Tainted Love Duet**
Review
Elle’s family past is not filled with many happy thoughts, but one shining point was her sister. But that soon changes and Elle is left alone feeling angry and heartbroken. It isn’t until much later than Elle becomes involved in her sisters life again but not in the way she would hope. All of a sudden she is thrown into a dangerous and complicated game involving dangerous gangs and crimes. When she bumps into Logan, is he the saving grace to help her out? Or is he one of the players in a game where losing could mean losing your life?
“I hated my past. I hated my father. I hated my mother for putting up with him. I hated my sister for leaving me. But I hated myself even more.”
This was a thrilling story with a complex plot that was full of depth and characters you become emotionally invested in.
“Aside from the demons I could see in her eyes, she was sexy as hell, and even though I knew better than to be captivated by her, I couldn’t help myself.”
Elle was a confusing character to begin with as you didn’t know her story and what role she was going to play. But I soon became invested in her. She was damaged from her past, a past that could have turned her bitter and angry but instead she was brave, kind and strong.
“I wanted to bite it for her. I wanted to taste her lips on mine. I wanted to feel her skin and touch her hair. It wasn’t only one thing that attracted me to her; it was everything about her.”
Logan was intriguing from the start. I loved him from the start as well, he has a slightly dangerous vibe about him but it made him mysterious, sexy and slightly cocky; a great mix for an alpha male. He was also protective and caring and I loved his uncertainty in handling Clementine because he was afraid he would hurt her. Background characters such as Michael and Lizzy all added different elements to the story and each had their own developed parts to play.
“Please trust me. Trust in what I told you. Trust me when I tell you how dangerous this is. Because if you don’t—we’ll both be dead.”
The plot has many twists and turns and honestly for the first few chapters I had no idea where it was going or what is was truly going to be about. I really can’t say too much without giving it a way but it did keep me guessing throughout and a story that can do that is rare. The writing flowed and the depth that went in to the scenes made this a really intriguing read. If I had one tiny complaint it would be that at times too many words were spent on scenes that didn’t necessarily need them so the story kind of halted during them. But this is a very minor point because the story itself was so interesting that I never became disinterested or wanted to skip.
“My resolve was being held together by a tattered string about ready to snap. Unable to look at her for fear it would, I turned around, and with a sharp intake of breath, I answered the call. After all, I’d only ever had one choice.”
Overall a thrilling story about love, betrayal, crime, hate and the lengths people will go to to protect the ones they love or to remain the most powerful and feared!
