Synopsis

First comes love.

Then comes marriage.

Then comes the… really nasty divorce.

Kate Carter thought she married her soul mate. She thought she had her happily ever after. But seven years into Kate’s marriage, she realizes that her husband Nick is not what she wanted. He’s selfish, he’s oblivious and he doesn’t love her anymore.

Maybe she doesn’t love him anymore either.

Divorce is the only option if either of them wants to find happiness.

Kate and Nick thought they knew what they wanted, but neither is prepared for the heartache that separating will bring them. The journey they embark on is not the freedom they wished for, but a painful look at the people they’ve become.

At the end of it, Kate has to decide if this is really the life she wants or if maybe there’s a way to salvage her broken heart.

Review

Every Wrong Reason was a book that I found myself wholly immersed in, it was just one of those gripping and emotional reads that jerks you up by your collar, slaps you about the face and yells ‘Pay attention’-this is important. I literally wasn’t sure what type of novel or story I was going to get with this one but what transpired was one of the best, emotionally unraveling, heart shattering and hope inspiring tales, that mixed a startling amount of reality and detail in understanding all the elements that goes into making a relationship work and inevitably what causes it all to fall apart and offers up the added question of is it really worth fighting for?

I’m not going to sugarcoat it all and say I enjoyed every second of this story because there were so many times I wanted to bitch slap Kate into next week and ask her what the hell was she doing and I really wanted to throat punch Nick for being a total tool and going along with everything that he clearly objected to.

I’m not sure if it was because I was over-identifying with the couple of this roller-coaster relationship and it made me relive the painful last minutes of any previous bad breakups and question what could have been, or if it’s just such a good, smart and insightful look at the ups and downs of being in love, and so well choreographed through Rachel’s stunning words but either way I wanted to devour this book in record time and I also didn’t want to read anymore in case I didn’t get the answers or ending I was hoping for.

‘“What are you doing here?”

He stood there out of breath with his shoulders heaving, as if he’d run all the way here. His mouth was set with determined lines. His eyes were so intent, so intimately focused…but maybe a little lost too. Or maybe it was something deeper than lost. Something profound and permanent that reflected in my eyes too. Something like finally being found.

“You still don’t know?”

I shook my head and tried to swallow. “No.”

“You, Kate. I’m here for you.”

Kate and Nick are wonderful characters, flawed, full of confusion, resentment, hurt but still so consumed with love for one another, even through all of the turmoil and uncertainty. It was a terrific conclusion, offering up a message of hope and determination and one that definitely put a huge satisfied grin on my face.
