Detective Drake Nash: hot, alpha, bossy, and… mine.

Now, if someone could tell his ex that… I don’t care if the summer fayre is coming to Holly Woods and she’s on the planning committee. What I do care about is sugar-filled food, bright lights, late nights… and danger. The type that won’t come in the form of Nonna’s new cantankerous British parrot, Gio. (Please see the damage done to Mom’s new curtains.)

Unfortunately, when the danger comes, it comes in the form of something Holly Woods has never seen. The town is rocked to its core, and once again, I’m in danger. Only this time, it isn’t because of my clients—this time, I’m in danger because of who I am… Because of my heritage.

And despite the HWPD’s best efforts, the bodies keep on piling up.

Drake’s determined to protect me. I’m determined that I can do it myself.

Danger. Mystery. Darkness. Malice.

It’ll be a miracle if any of us make it out of this with guns unfired, cupcakes still frosted, and hearts intact…

By day, New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to two beautiful little monsters. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of whatever she fancies – usually wine – and writes books.

Emma is working on Top Secret projects she will share with her followers and fans at every available opportunity. Naturally, all Top Secret projects involve a dashingly hot guy who likes to forget to wear a shirt, a sprinkling (or several) of hold-onto-your-panties hot scenes, and a whole lotta love.

She likes to be busy – unless busy involves doing the dishes, but that seems to be when all the ideas come to life.

EXCERPT

“Dinner’s cold,” I mumble against him.

“Don’t care.” The smile is gone, and there’s nothing but his kiss.

It consumes me. It always does. It’s like a hurricane and a tornado swirling inside me, washing through me like a tsunami. All sugar obsessions aside, I’ve never been truly addicted to anything.

If I had to pick one thing to be addicted to for the rest of my life, it’d be his kiss.

He grabs my thighs and hoists me onto the counter. I scream at the suddenness of the movement, and my hand hits my glass. It goes flying off the counter and lands on the floor with a smash, water and glass shards spreading across the floor.

Drake stills, stares at me for a second, then looks at the mess. His erection is pressing into my thigh, and I can see he’s weighing his options.

Clean or sex?

He wraps his arms around my waist and hauls me onto his shoulder.

Fuck. Holy fuck.

Instead of screaming, I laugh. I have no idea what else I’m supposed to do, really.

“And the mess?” I ask.

“You can clean it up later,” he answers, carrying me upstairs.

“That’s the first time you’ve ever left a mess anywhere.”

Unlike me. He’s the sponge to my dirt.

“What can I say?” He drops me onto his bed and leans over me, his eyes glinting devilishly in the lower light of his bedroom. “I’m stressed the fuck out, and if it’s between cleaning a smashed glass or being inside you, I know which one I’d rather pick.”

Heat coils in my lower stomach, settling into a throbbing ache I feel right through my pussy. I curl my fingers around the collar of his shirt and pull his face down to mine.

“Fine.” I pull his face down to mine. “But if you’re stressed, then we do it my way.”

He can’t say a word as I wrap my legs around his waist and use all of my strength to drag him over onto the bed. He laughs as I land on top of him, grinning, and straddle him.

“All right,” he agrees, sliding his hands up my legs. One stops on my butt, but the other trails all the way up my spine until his fingers are buried deep in my hair. He eases my face down to his and our lips come together easily, finding each other’s without as much as a second thought.

“Right,” I say, sitting up. “Roll over. Massage time.”

Drake stops. His cock is pushing right against my wet pussy through my panties, and I’m certain I’m flushed, but I do my best to keep a straight face. He yanks my dress up and his palm connects with my ass. I half gasp, half scream as he throws me off him, onto my back, and covers my body with his.

His eyes burn hotly, sending desire flooding through my body at lightning speed. His hands find mine, our fingers linking together, and he pins them above my head. I smile coyly, dragging my bottom lip between my teeth.

He says only three words.

“Fuck the massage.”

And fuck the massage he does.

His assault on my mouth is greedy. Every kiss is deeper and harder than the last, and I revel in each one. I didn’t know how much I needed him, how much he needed me, until right this second when the promise of each other is within touching distance.

The way he undresses us both is hurried, every item of clothing being thrown to a heap on the floor. Each touch we share is a blazing inferno that sets sparks flying across my skin, and the desperate way he plays my naked body until he teases my wet pussy with the head of his hard cock is almost cruel yet exciting.

When it gets to be too much, when I can’t take any more, I tilt my hips up.

He pushes inside me in one thrust, every single one of my nerves tingling in delight.

And he shows me exactly what he thinks of my fucking massage.

Twisted Bond:

I’m an Italian-Texan woman in a family full of cops. I’m passionate and shoot before I think. You only f*ck with me if you’re stupid.

Photograph cheating spouses. Hand over the evidence. Cash my check.

That was my plan when I returned home to Holly Woods, Texas, and became a private investigator.

Finding the dead body in my dumpster? Yeah… Given the choice, I think I would have opted out of that little discovery, especially since all three of my brothers are cops. And my Italian grandmother is sure the reason I’m single is because of my job.

Of course, my connection to the victim is entirely coincidental. Until I’m hired by her husband to investigate her murder and shoved bang-smack into the path of Detective Drake Nash.

My nemesis, a persistent pain in my ass, and one hell of a sexy son of a bitch.

Shame he still holds a grudge from that time I shot him in the foot twelve years ago, or we could have something. In another life.

So now all I have to do is avoid my nonna’s blind dates, try not to blackmail my brothers into giving me confidential police files, and absolutely do not point my gun at Drake Nash. Or kiss him. Or jump his bones.

All while I hunt down the killer.

Sounds totally simple—until a second body proves that sometimes things that start as coincidences don’t always end up that way…

(Twisted Bond is book one of the Holly Woods Files series and while it does not end in a cliffhanger, it is not a standalone.)

TANGLED BOND (Holly Woods Files, #2)

One date with the sexier-than-sin Detective Drake Nash. Simple.

Until you take into account that my brother finally proposed to his girlfriend, so Nonna is on a warpath—and the crazy old bat has Cupid by the balls.

The upcoming mayoral elections has everyone running on full speed, and while I couldn’t give any less craps about the corrupt Holly Woods mayor’s office, a dead body in the middle of a campaign speech has me thrown right into the middle of it. The victim is close to the mayor, but all he cares about is minimizing the damage to his campaign, so he hires me to work alongside Drake to close the case as quickly as possible.

Bad news for our tentative relationship.

We disagree far more than we agree, but being at loggerheads won’t get this murder solved… Or deal with the arrival of someone from his past.

The mysteries behind the murder aren’t the only things unraveling, and despite being knee-deep in lies and corruption and bonds so tangled they’re almost indecipherable, I have to figure out if I’m willing to fight for Drake the way I do justice…

Or if he’ll be my one who gets away.

Licked

November 11, 2015

Blurb

As the owner of Licked, an eclectic ice creamery and bar, Ryleigh Phillips doesn’t have time for that love stuff. Serving up Nibble My Nuts sundaes and Drunken Sailor boozy shakes are as close to an orgasmic affair as she’s had in months thanks to her expanding empire—until the night of her ten-year high school reunion.

When Ryleigh’s crush, gorgeous ex-football god Cameron Mathis, comes streaking into her life (literally—streaking), she begins to wonder if she really can have it all.

Wouldn’t it just figure that the moment you think life is perfect is when it falls spectacularly apart?

Enter Hunter Morgan, the contractor in charge of Licked’s renovations. Devastatingly handsome, and a smartass to boot, he’s got his eyes on Ryleigh from the moment he finds her passed out on his couch (yeah, that’s a long story). There’s just one tiny complication—he happens to be Cameron’s best friend.

When the lines between relationships and friendships blur, and it’s impossible to choose between two delicious flavors, what’s a girl to do? Taste a sample of each? Or go out and get LICKED?

Pinup. Beautiful woman on heels

“And then?”

I tugged at the edge of my apron in an attempt to avoid the three pairs of eyes staring bug-eyed at me. “And then he walked me to my car.”

“And then you…?” Shayne asked.

“Went home,” I said.

“Wait a minute, can we talk about the fact that he made you sleep on his couch?” Paige’s eyebrows were raised up to practically her hairline. “I’m sorry, but in what fucking universe is that acceptable? Why didn’t you call Quinn to pick you up?”

“He didn’t make me, geez. He passed out and it was late, and I thought maybe…you know. Morning sex.”

Shayne cocked an eyebrow. “And did that happen?”

“Well, no. Hunter made me coffee, and then Cameron woke up and…that’s it.”

“Wait,” Quinn interrupted. “You slept in an apartment with two guys and both of them had you sleeping on the couch? Jesus, Ryleigh, it’s against man-code for that to happen. Did you wear a chastity belt last night or something?”

I groaned, my head falling into my hands. Of course the girls would give me a hard time. I’d been talking up tackling Cameron at the reunion for weeks, so my body wasn’t the only one feeling let down.

Still, I was seriously regretting inviting them over for a powwow at my shop during our off hours.

“I think I need another shot of vodka in my Feisty Ho-bag now.” Paige pushed her glass stemware toward me, and I grabbed a liquor bottle from behind the bar and tipped some into her glass.

Boozy shakes. They were the bread and butter of Licked during the brunch and evening hours, and the main reason for the expansion next door. I glanced at the black tarp hanging over the doorway that led to the space I’d bought a few months ago and sighed. Construction was running behind, and it was too late to hire another company if I wanted to keep the launch date set.

And I had to keep the date set.

“So are you seeing him again?” Shayne asked, dunking her cherry through the layers of baklava bits and whipped cream on top of her Nibble My Nuts shake. “I will totally get involved if I need to.”

No doubt she’d be successful. She basically ran one of the top matchmaking companies in the city, not that you’d know it from her degrading pay scale. Her boss was a fucking nightmare, but Shayne was convinced she had to pay her dues.

“I don’t need your expert skills this time, but thank you. He’s got my number, so…we’ll see.”

“You can’t just wait around for a guy to call,” she said.

“I’m not waiting. I’ve got all that”—I gestured to the ugly tarp that hid the mess behind it—“to deal with, so I’m actually quite busy at the moment.”

The three of them gave each other “the look.” You know, the one that said, We’ve got to help our poor little friend get laid so she doesn’t end up gorging on the ice cream and boozy shakes she makes and be relegated to spinsterhood.

“Guys,” I said, placing my hands on the counter as I stood in front of them. “I’m not on my way to spinsterhood. I just have priorities.”

“I’m sure you could squeeze Cameron Mathis in,” Quinn said with a wink. “Get it? Squeeze him in…”

“More like blow off the dust, grab a key, unlock that shit, and pray there are no bats,” Paige agreed.

Oh for fuck’s sake. “All right, no more booze for either of you.”

About the Author

1

You could say Brooke Blaine was a book-a-holic from the time she knew how to read; she used to tell her mother that curling up with one at 4 a.m. before elementary school was her ‘quiet time.’ Not much has changed except for the espresso I.V. pump she now carries around and the size of her onesie pajamas.

She is the author of Flash Point, a romantic suspense standalone, as well as the co-author of the erotic series, A Desperate Man, with Ella Frank. The latter has scarred her conservative southern family for life, bless their hearts. Licked, a romantic comedy, will be released November 11th, 2015 and is the first in the L.A. Liaisons series.

If you’d like to get in touch with her, she’s easy to find – just keep an ear out for the Rick Astley ringtone that’s dominated her cell phone for ten years.

Can Chase and Victoria find the path to a happy future together? Or will they forever be wishing for yesterday?

**Recommended 18+ due to language and sexual content.

Review

Victoria had it all once, a perfect little family, and even though she was young she wouldn’t have changed anything but then a horrible accident forces her world to change and she is no longer the happy, family focused person she used to be. That is until Chase comes into her life; determined to heal what is broken in her, Chase works at bringing the old ‘Tori’ back but can he do that? Especially since Chase is battling his own battle, one that could break them both for good once it is revealed?

“How can the sun shine? Doesn’t it understand that it’s lost its brightest rays?”

A slow starter this book, but once it gets going and Chase finally starts to pull the old Victoria out, I really got into it and became emotionally attached to both characters. And the huge twist towards the end had me reeling and literally gasping in shock!

“Never love.  Never the all-encompassing, do anything for the other, blinding type of love.  I wonder if I’m even capable. I wonder if I even deserve it. Once I thought I was in love and it was torn from me.”

The beginning had me in tears; I felt absolutely devastated for Victoria and the awful tragedy that happened to her. I could understand how something like that could you shut you down emotionally to protect yourself; even knowing this though it took me a while to warm up to the older Victoria as she was just so cold and unfeeling. But after she meets Chase and she starts to let her true personality shine through, I became impressed by her all over again and wanted desperately for her to see that her guilt was unfounded and that she deserves happiness.

“But, I do struggle every day, just like you do—and everyone else in here for that matter.  Wishing for God to give me yesterday.  To find a way to change the past and to breathe life back into those that were lost.”

Chase I loved from the beginning and never stopped. He was a brilliant hero; wanting to desperately help others find peace with their suffering, despite the fact that he himself is also suffering so greatly. So brave, kind, caring as well as, determined, strong and extremely sexy; he is the kind of man every woman wants and every family would love to have as an in-law.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a sexy expression on a woman’s face. Maybe that’s stepping over the line.” An adorable pink tinges his cheeks. “But I get the feeling that stepping into your space is the only way to pull you out of it.”

After the prologue I felt the plot took a little while to warm up but once it got there it never really slowed down. We had emotionally turmoils constantly being thrown at us, and we were left biting our nails wondering and dreading what Chase’s secret was. It was a hugely emotional story and was very sad in some parts but we also had a lot of laughter with Chase’s plans of getting the real Tori back; so don’t worry, this isn’t just about loss or heartbreak! And the twist at the end literally knocked me off feet! I was completely surprised and had no idea what this was going to do and how it would effect them both. I was grabbing my kindle and turning the pages rapidly, desperate to find the HEA I so desperately wanted for them both!

“I will fix her. I will fill the gaping hole in her chest with everything in my soul. She will feel again.  I’ll make sure of it.”

This definitely isn’t an easy read, your emotions will be put through the ringer; but it is also a beautiful read not only about loss, grief and guilt but also on forgiveness, moving on and finding love and happiness once again.

Synopsis

Bree Richards has lived a secluded life for the last ten years. When her past finally catches up with her, Bree finds herself travelling across the Country with the dangerous Michael Ryan. With Boston’s underworld and sexy, but questionable, FBI agent Davis snapping at their heels, Bree makes the decision to put her trust in the one person she fears most.

Review

Every once in awhile there comes along a book so dark, gripping and thrilling, sexy and sophisticated, exciting and eloquently written that I am once again reminded why I love reading and reviewing; Desperately Undone is precisely that book.  Reviewing offers up the opportunity to discover hidden gems amongst the indie author community and Christine Winston is such an author.   This book straddled a very fine line between a dark romance and the more generic suspenseful romance but it is a complete masterpiece in introducing a rather far more unconventional style of falling in love.  A misconstrued hero.  A damaged heroine.  A salacious and dramatic storyline with so many twist and turns that you are continually on the edge of your seat, Desperately Undone manages to make you want to simultaneously throttle the hero and strip him buck naked in any dirty cheap motel available.

‘I turn to face him and he looks uncomfortable.

“What’s this?”

He comes and stands next to me and I look at the beautiful yellow rose in my hand and up into his eyes.

“You love yellow roses,” he shrugs his eyes leaving mine and I know he is embarrassed’

Our female protagonist Bree is suffering some pretty severe PTSD stemming from her horrific kidnapping as a teenager and in the beginning she is a product of her fear and trauma, she is perpetually frightened and living in paranoia which is exacerbated when she learns that one of her kidnappers is to be released from prison.  It is when this happens that the story really kicks it up a notch and delivers a fast-paced, action packed thrill ride of FBI involvement, a risky romance, life on the run and discovering that your life is in far more danger than ever before.  Bree’s character goes through the most visible transformation, starting out as slightly weak and timid, but as she faces more turmoil and drama she finds her inner strength and intelligence when her desire to live starts a chain reaction that proves to her that she is stronger than she ever believed and that she can be forgiving, loving, protective, and above all a badass warrior.

Michael, our hero nails the dark, brooding alpha looking for redemption but believing he doesn’t deserve it either.  He is in constant conflict with himself but it’s through Bree’s faith and admiration for him that he too re-learns who he actually is.

It should also be noted that the side players in this book have some scene stealing parts, so well rounded and constructed and an unbelievable support system for both Bree and Michael.

This is a remarkably clever tale, that lives up to its full potential in both plot and characterisation, I’ve never fell harder for a hero as I did for Michael, even when I was dubious about his character and intentions he came out thriving.  I’m so excited for the next book in this series that will hopefully tell our next set of characters’ story, I just hope we don’t have too long to wait.

“You’re late!” Gran calls out, not even bothering to lift her eyes from the register.

I bustle through the dining room into the kitchen, nearly colliding with Blaire in the process. Reflexively, she readjusts the plates balanced on her arm and bumps back through the door.

“You’re late!” she yells back at me.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m late,” I grumble under my breath. I wouldn’t have been if I’d followed my better instincts and blown right past the disabled Wrangler, but just as I decided to keep right on going, my foot eased off the gas and I slammed on the brakes. I’ve always been a sucker. One day it’s going to get me in trouble.

I’m tying my apron on when the door swings back open and Blaire reappears. Her brown hair is pulled back in a loose ponytail and her green eyes are glittering. “Do you know how many tables I’ve had to juggle by myself while you were moseying your ass in today?”

I roll my eyes at her and give the apron strings a final tug. “I wasn’t moseying. Some guy was stranded on the side of the road, so I stopped to help.”

“Please tell me you’re joking.”

When I just stare at her, she gives me a harder stare back. “You don’t just stop to help random people. The guy could have been an ax murderer or a serial killer.”

I scoff and wave a dismissive hand her way as I turn to roll some silverware. “He wasn’t an ax murderer, he was just a guy whose car broke down and who didn’t have his phone.”

She peeks through the window in the door, surveying the tables. “Convenient.”

I stack the rolled sets of silverware in a pile next to me, glad to see the routine of it is coming back to me quickly. It’s been years since I helped out around Gran’s Diner, but it’s almost like I never left.

“Yes, Blaire, it was very convenient for him that his car broke down and he had no phone. He must have known I’d be driving down that stretch of road and staged the whole thing.”

Her footsteps echo as she walks across the room, and I turn just in time to catch the rag that’s flying at my face. “You’ve got crap on your leg.”

I wipe at the smeared grease stain, scrubbing to get it off until my skin is red. “Is that grease?”

I laugh. “Actually, yes. I offered to take a peek under the hood of the car.” The dangerous glint to her eyes dims a fraction. “Seriously? Why?”

“Honestly, I thought it would be kind of funny. Although, come to think of it, he didn’t look all that amused.”

Her eyes narrow as she looks at me, and she takes another peek out front. “The next table is yours, by the way.” Her first sentence nearly collides with the second. “Who was the guy?”

I find another smudge of grease on my hand and get to work on that. “Luke . . . I don’t know. I didn’t get his last name.”

“Luke Evans?” she asks, her hands finding their way down to her bossy hips.

Didn’t I just say that I didn’t get his last name? I throw the rag back at her, which catches her on the shoulder before plopping down onto the tile floor. “He could be Luke Skywalker for all I know.”

She toes the towel and kicks it into the sink. “Really tall?”

I nod.

“Killer blue eyes, long-ish brown hair, fucking gorgeous?” Her voice rises as she speaks, like someone is accidentally leaning on the volume button of the remote.

“Um, I guess? He had sunglasses on, so I couldn’t really see his eyes. He was at that party last night. The one who wiped out at my feet? You know, the guy who was letting that girl fondle him in front of everyone?” Gross. There’s no bigger turnoff than a guy who thinks the world lives and dies in his pants.

She bursts out laughing. “Did you just say ‘fondle’? God, Sloane.” While she continues cackling, I start stacking clean dishes on the shelf.

“Well, let me add a last name to the first one you got. That is Luke Evans, and he is definitely the guy who lets girls fondle him in public. Hell, I’d definitely let him—”

I throw up a hand to cut her off. “Please, don’t.” “Don’t say it or don’t do it?”

I shudder. “Either. With how many holes he’s probably stuck that thing in, I bet it’s about to shrivel up and die.”

She hops onto the counter next to me, swinging her legs back and forth so that her heels drum against the metal cabinets. “Can I at least talk to him, Miss Prude? I hear he’s quite the charmer.”

“You’re joking, right?” I give her an incredulous look as a plate dangles from my hand. Her perfectly plucked eyebrows draw together. “No, are you?”

I slide the last plate into the cabinet and shut it. “He barely managed to string together a multisyllabic sentence, and I had to repeat my name for him. Twice. I’m pretty sure the guy took the short bus to school.”

Blaire’s mouth drops open. “You did not just say that.”

I already want to take it back. I’m not a mean person. Ever. But guys like that—I can’t stand them. Especially not after . . . Nope. Grabbing that intrusive thought around the throat, I shove it back into the box of things I never want to think about again.

She chews on her lip as she studies me, seeing straight through me like she always does. At least I have the same power over her. It must be a sister thing. That or the fact that we grew up in each other’s back pocket with less than a year separating the two of us in age.

Hopping down off the counter, she takes another glance through the window. When she turns back around, her eyes are glittering again. “Gran sat table seven; it’s all yours.”

I bump through the door and fumble in my apron for my pen, not really paying attention. “Good morning, my name is—”

“Sloane.”

My eyes snap up as I finally find the pen and stare straight into the prettiest blue eyes I’ve ever seen. They’re nicer than mine, which is saying something, since I really love my eyes. These eyes are such a pale blue, like Winterfresh gum, and so unexpected when they’re surrounded by that overly sun-kissed skin and dark brown hair.

“You again.” The words slip out from between my lips before I even realize I’ve said them.

He looks slightly taken aback, and his smile slips a notch. He gestures across the table. “This is Archer.”

I hold out my hand to him, but I’m still holding the pen. I shuffle it back into my other hand  and  try again.  “Nice  to  meet  you.”  He shakes my hand, trying to keep the look of amusement from his face but failing.

“What can I get you guys?”

“French toast and coffee for me, please,” Archer says, handing me back his plastic-coated menu.

“I’ll have coffee too, French fries, banana pancakes, and a chocolate milkshake.” Luke offers up his menu and waits for me to comment on his order. That combination of food plus the way his eyes are squinting at me are leading me to believe he’s nursing quite the hangover.

“Coming right up.”

I can feel his eyes on my ass the entire way back to the kitchen. Pig.

Synopsis

When Sloane Avery stops to help a stranded driver, she finds more than a broken down car on the side of the road. Luke Evans is faster and sexier than her Maserati, but with her heart still on the mend, she’s not interested in taking him for a test drive. Despite their initial disdain for each other, emotion and passion simmer, complicating their fragile friendship. But when a tragic loss and devastating betrayal send them spiraling, their growing love isn’t enough to save them.

That was five years ago, practically a different lifetime and definitely a different Sloane. Before she’s been hardened by booze, sex, and as much distance as she could get from the past. Now, called home on a family emergency, she’s determined to hold onto her heart the next time she sees Luke.

Except Sloane’s not the only one who’s changed. Luke’s turned his life around. Only the reappearance of Sloane and the reminder of his biggest mistake can put a dent in his plans. Luke is set on fixing what he’s broken. But with her emotions boiling to the surface, Sloane needs to decide if falling in love is life’s greatest gift or its cruelest joke.

Review

‘Contemplating anything happening between Luke and I is emotional suicide.’

I have extreme mixed emotions about this book and struggled to come up with a rating as well as what to write in my review. On one hand it was well written with a plot that kept me constantly engaged and turning pages. For the first 30 percent of this book I read it like any other, reading when I could then going about normal life, then it started to pick up and around 45 percent something happened that made real life impossible and I read the rest in one sitting.

‘Luke Evans didn’t just shatter my heart, he pulverized it.’

Sloan and Luke could not be more different. She’s rich and he is from the “other” side of town. Normally they wouldn’t even meet but when Sloan and her sister Blaire come to his neighborhood to spend the summer with their Grandmother the two cross paths and their lives are forever changed. So much happens in this book and several of my personal buttons were pushed. If you have sensitive triggers please feel free to message me and I can help guide you to if this book is for you. The first half of this book I adored Sloan and Luke truly pushed my buttons but what surprised me is that the second half of the book (which is years later) those roles are completely reversed and Luke started to improve in my eyes and I desperately wanted to slap Sloan.

‘Sloan is like a drug, and I just can’t seem to get her out of my system.’

Luke and Sloan’s journey to a happily ever after was a truly difficult one but when we got there (and we do get there) it was like a breath of fresh air. The one thing I would say about the book is that for how hard the journey was I felt the end was a tad rushed. Their struggle was so difficult I almost hoped it would have a cliffhanger just so there would be more time to hash it all out, which is bizarre for me since I typically prefer standalones. But still Until We Break was an angst filled New Adult love story that anyone who enjoys to be filled with extreme emotions will definitely enjoy!

Chris: Is Mia okay?

Brooke: She’s fine, thanks. Back asleep already.

After replying, I debated asking him how he was doing. But before I could decide, my phone buzzed again.

Chris: It’s me.

I stared at my phone in confusion as the sound of a knock broke the silence in the room. Still holding my phone, I stood up.

Not sure what to expect from Chris when I opened the door, I walked into the kitchen and paused with my hand on the doorknob, hesitating for a minute. I hadn’t imagined what happened before. He’d almost kissed me. I didn’t know if he was coming back to talk about that or… his credit card. Of course. I had put it in my pocket as we walked in, forgetting to give it back to him.

I pulled the plastic out of my pocket and opened the door. Chris stood on my doorstep, his eyes restless as clutched his phone.

“Hey,” I said, holding up the credit card. “Did you come back for—”

I didn’t finish my question. As I spoke, Chris took two big steps inside. He cupped my face in his hands, still holding his phone. “No,” he muttered and crashed his lips against mine.

Holy shit. I stood frozen, gripping my phone in one hand and his credit card in the other. But then the reality of what was happening sunk in. Chris’s warm mouth was against mine, his tongue brushing against my closed lips, and I was standing still like a dumbass and not kissing him back.

Before my brain could tell my mouth to start working, he broke away.

“Brooke,” he whispered. His lips brushed against mine as he spoke, sending electric shocks throughout my body.

He backed up, hands still cradling my chin, his phone smashed against my face as his eyes locked with mine, waiting for my reaction. Not breaking eye contact, I placed my phone and his credit card on a small table next to the door. Reaching up, I pried his phone out from between his hand and my chin, and laid it on the table as well.

Then I sprang up on my tiptoes, grasped his shoulders for leverage, and pulled him back to me.

Review

Brooke has a beautiful little girl called Mia who she loves more than anything and she thinks that Mia and her family are all she needs in her life because of the awful thing that happened in her past. But then Chris moves in next door and she starts to have feelings she thought she would never have again. Chris also has a secret that makes him not want a relationship; but maybe these two broken people can repair each other with the help of a beautiful little girl? And maybe these two meet at just the right time to help each other get through another horrible situation.

“My eyes widened as I finally accepted the feelings I’d been having all weekend. I didn’t want him to leave because I liked him. I was so fucked. The first time I felt something in years, and it was for a guy who didn’t date.”

I really loved this book. It gave me all the feels and was slammed full of emotion. It’s an easy going book, you know something awful has happened to both Brooke and Chris and when they help each other through that, another situation happens that will pull at your heart strings and make u beg to the reading gods that everything turns out okay.

“I really want this to work,” he whispered, his lips brushing against me as he kept talking. “I don’t know how else to put it. I want this to work so badly, and I know you don’t trust people easily.” He moved back, so he was looking into my eyes again. “I’m going to do everything I can to earn that, Brooke. I swear I will.”

Brooke and Mia were both so loveable. Strong mother, strong daughter with the two of them against the world. Their bond was unbreakable and beautiful. Brooke really was an amazing woman, a great mum, strong, brave, independent and always fighting for the best for her daughter. Mia was a bundle of joy and happiness who you just knew would light up a room.

“Chris felt so good, everything about him. His hard chest, his tight arms, those big hands pressing into my back, pinning me against him. But my favorite thing was his mouth exploring mine, needy and giving at the same time.”

Chris was our hero. A sweet, kind and quiet man but as the story developed you see his sexy, protective and strong side. His dedication to both Mia and Brooke was so adorable and the way he overcomes his own sad past to be there for them both made my heart sigh.

“I want to memorize this,” he said. “You look like a damn goddess and you’re mine. I know you were before but now … I finally have everything I’d given up dreaming about.”

This is such a roller coaster ride filled with emotion. It’s tough going for a while and when you think everything is working out…BAM another heartbreaking story line happens and you are right back to holding your breath and hoping that everyone gets their HEA! Highly recommend this story to those who want an emotional read, with loveable characters and a excellent story line.
