The sound of police sirens pierced the chilly Halloween night.  It was 3 a.m., but the early hour did not deter onlookers from leaving their beds to shout angry accusations safely from their side of the rickety fence.  If this simple wire and wood structure failed to protect them, surely the cops pacing to and from the shabby little house would.  These two sisters did not appear to like this man who had lived next door to them for years.  He had managed to violate every known courtesy of neighborly conduct.   St. Louis Homicide Detective Ben Foxx carefully observed every detail.
“Murderer!” they screamed at officers walking near the shabby cottage.  “That creep killed her.  Everyone knew he would do it someday.  Ask anybody.  Arrest him.  Give him the electric chair,” they ranted and raved, sometimes simultaneously and sometimes taking turns.  It was almost as if they had agreed upon a plan to keep their noisy protests constant.
A frightened and confused Carson Liddell sat in a grimy plastic backyard patio chair awaiting questioning.  Carson’s wild and shaggy red hair covered his eyes, as it usually did, but he could still throw his evil stare at the two ranting women with his yellow-hued pupils.  They smiled back at him confidently, as if they could not imagine the possibility that they would be deprived the joy of watching him being hauled away in handcuffs.
“I’m telling you she’s been abducted,” Carson fumed as Foxx approached, dragging another patio chair over for their conversation.  “I came home and found everything just as you see it now—the blood, the knocked-over furniture—and Jayda’s gone.  I had nothing to do with this.  Someone came here and took her away.”  He was rambling, trying to convince everyone who had ears to hear that he was innocent.  Carson Liddell was visibly shaken. Not with concern for his girlfriend, but for fear of his own situation.
“And why would anyone want to abduct Jayda Parrish,” Ben asked incredulously.  “There is no motive for that—no ransom money.  Why do you think this, Mr. Liddell?”
“How the hell do I know?” he answered angrily.  “There are lots of weirdoes out there.  Maybe someone did it to get at me somehow.  Lots of people hate me.”
“You say you had been at an AA meeting all evening,” asked Detective Ben Foxx, soberly and calmly, while typing information into his notebook computer.  “Do you have any witnesses who can verify your alibi for those hours?  Isn’t it rather late for that type of thing?”
“It’s Halloween.  There was a party after the meeting, and I hooked up with some new people—okay, a new woman.  The conversation ran pretty long,” he said.
“So, can you give me the names of these people you were with?” he pressed.
“Well, none of us use last names,” he said with apparent concern about this predicament. His pockmarked face contorted to form deep creases over his brow.  “Anonymity is taken very seriously in AA.  I can give permission for someone to reveal my identity, but I could get in real trouble telling you about anyone else in the group.”
“You’re already in trouble,” stated Ben Foxx without emotion.  His deeply serious tone seemed to stun Carson into an even deeper sense of panic.  The whites of his eyes expanded and bulged, showing streaks of red blood vessels.
On hearing the word trouble, Carson clearly saw himself facing jail—a place where both inmates and guards would find reasons to mistreat him.  Ben Foxx watched as the man reacted like someone who had lived it all before and had emotional scars to show for it.  He could see all of this by reading Carson’s face and watching his gestures.  Suddenly, this man no longer cared about respecting some ridiculous principle such as anonymity.  He reached into his back pocket and pulled out a worn and folded piece of paper.

Review

This book actually started out for me with my “bore hackles” up but I was very wrong.

Jayda fakes her own death to get out of an abusive relationship with her cheating,

alcoholic boyfriend. I really wasn’t expecting to enjoy that ride, but I did !! Very much

so !! There are a lot of twist and turns as Jayda takes her new path, all the while being

hunted down, by the police, her ex … her own emotional roller coaster. She meets some

great people along the way. Jayda, on the whole, I didn’t care for, what I did like was

how it all came together so nicely. I really liked The Detective, Ben Foxx. He was a

strong Character for me and I just liked his tough, no nonsense attitude. I very rarely

fall for a female lead. To be honest, they mostly annoy me, so this isn’t a personal thing

about the character. Im just not fond of the females, for the most part. That being said,

the author handled writing her in a wonderful manner that even I, the woman hater (haha)

can appreciate. It didn’t take away from the book at all for me. I was actually pleasantly

surprised with how this book took shape and continued to fluidly move through to the

end. The Grammar and spelling are excellent and the flow of the chapters and characters

is excellent. It is very very well written. The chapters were a bit on the long side, but it

was written very nicely.

For those into Christian type, suspense/romance, then this is absolutely worth every

penny for you, and for those not, well, its still isn’t too bad for you either !!

Revealed by You - Joanna Walker

Synopsis:

The sharp edge of love…

Brett MacLean was possessive. Even more since I became his. He was my desire…my ultimate pleasure…he was mine.

As each day passed, he revealed a part of himself that had lain dormant. A broken childhood. A troubled man. One I was determined to help.

After months together, I thought I knew him. But soon realized I was wrong. His dark secrets were only the beginning. The past was more disturbing than I ever could have fathomed.

His deep seeded need for me came with a price that could have consequences. I needed him just as much. Because of this, we would be tested. My greatest fear was that it would take us beyond the limits of our love.

Excerpt #1 (short):

People may not believe in love at first sight. The first pull. The first thing that tugs at your heart, leading you to that person. Hell, I definitely didn’t. Not until I met him. My best friend. My lover. Four weeks, three days and eight hours had passed since I’ve seen Brett MacLean.

The day he left for New York felt like a lifetime ago and I couldn’t wait to see him again. For him to come home. We weren’t living together yet but I spent every day at his apartment, needing to be close to him in some way.

Although video chats were a new thing for us, it wasn’t the same. I missed his touch, his hot breath against my skin, him telling me what he wanted and how he wanted it, the dark possessive air about him as he claimed me. Even though he was dark and brooding, demanding and controlling, I gave in willingly.

Excerpt #2 (long):

I slowly rose to my full height and found Brett standing a few feet away from me. His suitcase in hand, aviator sunglasses on his handsome face and four buttons on his white dress shirt unbuttoned. My stomach flipped, my heart thumping hard against my rib cage at the mere sight of him. God, he was beautiful. Possessive and dominating, dark and sensual. Sex rolled off of him like a cool morning fog.

He pulled off his glasses, his blue eyes locking with mine. A smug smile formed on his hard chiseled face. A dark line of scruff covered his jaw and I couldn’t wait to lick every inch of him.

My body bloomed, needing his hands on me after so long but I was frozen. Captivated by his deep blue stare as he stalked towards me.

He handed the driver his bags and closed the distance between us. He cupped the back of my neck, brushing his thumb over my bottom lip. “Hi my Evvie.”

Hearing him claim me by just his words, made my insides quiver. “Hi,” I breathed. My heart gave a thump. I swore my insides just turned to mush.

He smirked and leaned down to my ear. “I missed you.” His lips brushed down the length of my jaw. “I’ve missed your smell. Lavender. Vanilla. Me.”

My heart thumped hard, pounding in my ears as he held me restrained just by his hand and mouth. I couldn’t move even if I wanted to.

His fingers brushed down my cheek before capturing my mouth in a hard demanding kiss.

My lips instantly parted, taking his tongue deep inside me. The feel of his warm lips against mine after all of these weeks ignited something I hadn’t felt in a while. A wanton need spread through me. I gripped his shirt, pulling him against me. More.

A soft groan erupted from the back of his throat as the kiss deepened. Pushing me up against the side of the town car, his hold on the back of my neck tightened.

I moaned, sucking and pulling at his tongue.

He chuckled and released my mouth, trailing kisses down to my ear. “I’ve missed you so much, lover,” he whispered.

“Hmm…I’ve missed you,” I said, leaning my head to the side.

“I can’t wait to do nasty dirty things to that hot little body of yours,” he growled in my ear, inhaling deep.

I bit my lower lip to keep from panting and brushed a hand down his hard chiseled chest.

His teeth grazed up the side of my neck. “I can’t wait to get you alone.”

Excerpt #3:

I smiled and placed a soft kiss on his lips before he pushed me back on the bed. For the rest of the night, Brett gave me what I needed from him. What I craved.

Through these months of being with him, I had learned so much. His feelings revealed, his past laid out before him, his true desires on display. For me.

His passion, his love, his dark possession consumed me. I was drowning in him and as each day past, I fell further and further into his depths. Not wanting to come up for air in the least.

He gave me him. All of him. Revealing a part of himself that he never shared with anyone. The once broken boy that grew up into a strong and powerful man was mine. It would take a while for him to heal, to get over what had been done to him but I would be by his side every step of the way.

Only I knew the real Brett MacLean.

Review

Lets start with the cover!  Isn’t is absolutely fabulous?!  I am cover whore, so I just had to bring it up.  It is sassy, fun, and sexy.  I just love it!   So, basically, this is 4 short and complete stories with Happily Ever Afters.  All of these romantic stories start with a girls night out.  Whether it be Vegas, a friends birthday, or just a girls gathering, all of these ladies start out having a fun night out with the girls and end up with a sexy man.  Two of these stories are paranormal, while the other two were romance.  While I very much enjoyed all of the novellas in this anthology my two favorite were Kissed by A Vampire by Patricia A. Wolfe and A is for… By Lila Dubois.  I just really thought Kissed by A Vampire was very romantic and sweet! I also really like vamps in my book.  ROAR!   A is for…  was super sexy and slammed full of hot BDSM.  All of these short stories were really well written and very steamy.  I love anthologies because I get to find new authors that I want to read.  I would definitely read all of these authors again.

Redemption. Could I absolve him? I lay in a hospital bed for two weeks. All of it at his hands. I’d been marred, though the scar on my skin was not the worst damage. It was a reminder of the scar I’d carried inside. Could he erase that scar? Could he heal a wound one could not see?

There was silence, deafening silence. I tried to keep it together. I used every ounce of energy I had to keep the fire at a low flame, but it blazed through me. He would’ve shot my kid, and I couldn’t let that happen. These kids, they’d become my lifeline. My light.

“Without those kids, I’m just as dark as you.” I said emotionlessly, empty. These last few weeks of pretending during the day, only to come home and sob until sleep graced me was maddening. “I’ve
got nothing left to give you, J. Nothing.”

I hung my head, losing the fight with the tears that had been threatening to erupt since J arrived. “I can’t be your light, when I have none.”

We lay on the floor, two damaged bodies searching for the light. J pulled my head into his hands, bringing us face to face. I could feel his breath against my lips. “You were a comet that bust into my life out of no where” he whispered. “I begged for you. On my knees in the dirt, I groveled to the sky to bring me light. And there you were, at Eight Oh Eight, staring up at me, even though I knew you couldn’t see through the window. I saw you, though. Elle, I saw you long before you saw me.”

“How could I love a killer?”

“How much pain was worth loving this man?

“Please, baby. Please. I need you. I love you. I can’t go into this without knowing you’ll be here when I return.”
“I’m not sure what to say. I want to tell you I’ll wait. That I’ll be here, waiting like a good girl for you. I want to because I love you. Fuck, I love you.” I turned, finally ready to look him in the eye. “I don’t know where I’ll be. I can’t tell you that. But I can tell you that I love the fuck out of you, and no matter how much I try to stop,” I paused. Fuck this mother fucker. Fuck! God, why was he doing this to me? Angry tears, sad tears, hopeless tears, tears filled with longing fell from my eyes. J caught then with his thumb, but there were too many. They ran over his fingers like a waterfall.

“Fuck, J. I don’t want you to die.”
He pulled me to him, and I inhaled his scent. I’d never be able to smell Acqua di mother fucking Gio again and not think of him. Today it was mixed with the smell of exhaust, like he’d been riding around all night. For what felt like the gazillionth time, I crumbled into his arms. How did two times come to be a number exponentially higher?

“I don’t want to die, baby. I want to fall asleep next to you. I want to wake up next to you.
I’m fighting this war for you. To be with you.”

Author Bio

Emily is a Midwestern Gal, but could be anywhere as you read this. She gypsy’s the country, as well as south of the border. Adventure feeds her soul, and offers great writing material.

She loves kids and working with kids, but can only handle caring for four-legged furry friends. A crazy dog and laid back cat have trained her to be their partner in life.

Vices include Swedish Fish, ignoring chores in favor of reading, and caring too much for people in her life. She chose to write this bio in third person as she is an Aries, and found writing in first person ended up with her writing an excessively long life story.

Aries like to talk about themselves. It is something Emily is working on being more mindful of.
