SYNOPSIS:

Two nights with her ruined me for all other women, but I never got the chance to make her mine.

I’m the pinnacle of control. I protect the net, my team, and my daughter.

It’s my final season and I can’t afford any distractions.

Except our new assistant coach just walked in.

And I would know her face anywhere.

She’s the one I dream about.

That weekend, I was just a man—not the legend, the dad, the mentor.

I didn’t care that I was a decade older.

For the first time in my life, I was ready to risk everything if it meant having her.

Until I woke up to an empty bed and no note.

Three years of wishing I knew how to find her, now she’s my new boss.

I can be patient.

But for her—I want to break all the rules.

REVIEW:

If You Love Me by Helena Hunting is an emotional, swoon-worthy hockey romance that stole my heart! This slow-burn, forbidden love story pairs Roman, the utterly charming and devoted single-father NHL goalie, with Lexi, the trailblazing first female assistant coach in the league. Their chemistry is electric, and the witty banter between makes their connection impossible to resist. Hunting masterfully builds the tension, blending steamy moments with deeply emotional layers as Roman and Lexi navigate the challenges of their forbidden relationship.

Roman’s dedication to his daughter and his vulnerability make him a hero to root for, while Lexi’s strength and determination as she breaks barriers in a male-dominated field are inspiring. The emotional depth of their journey—tackling themes of love, loss, and second chances—adds a richness to their story that will keep you hooked. Hunting’s storytelling is impeccable, weaving together passion, humor, and heart in a way that feels authentic and unforgettable. I listened to the audiobook and it was fantastic. Narrated in duet by Stephen Dexter and Stella Bloom, who both delivered exceptional performances. If You Love Me by Helena Hunting gets five smooches from me!

EXCERPT:

“Why didn’t you come home when you finished college if the lodge was so important to you?”

I dropped my hand and let my forehead hit the window. The glass was cool, but it did nothing to temper the fiery anger still surging through my blood from dealing with the sheriff.

“I ran into a bit of bad—”

“Luck.”

I blinked in surprise when Risky finished my sentence for me. I saw him smirk out of the corner of my eye.

“I’ve noticed that’s your default explanation for everything that goes wrong. Big or small. It’s nothing more than luck. Somehow, the power going out and someone taking a shot at you are equally unlucky.” He turned his head slightly to give me a pensive look. “I think your perception might be off.”

I laughed for real this time and held up my hand and started ticking things off on my fingers. “I was born to parents who act like they’re on perpetual spring break. The first time my grandpa tried to teach me to ride a bike, I broke my arm. On my first day of school, I got attacked by a loose dog and ended up needing twenty stitches. The first time I went camping, I fell into a patch of poison oak and nearly died from an allergic reaction. I got lost in a blizzard when I was ten and had the state’s search and rescue teams out looking for me. I thought it would be fun to join a sport in middle school. I played one game of soccer and left the game with a broken nose. I got this truck for my birthday when I was sixteen. Thank God my granddad knew I needed a tank because the first time I drove it without him supervising from the passenger seat, I ended up in a multi-car pileup on the pass. And don’t get me started on my love life.” Because that was where things had really turned into a train wreck. The situation with Baker had been enough to turn me off of dating for the rest of my life.

“But I want to ask about your love life. I’m curious if there’s anyone you can think of who might want to take a shot at you.”

I frowned and shifted on the hard seat uncomfortably. “You don’t think it was a wayward hunter?”

He gave me a look that indicated I shouldn’t ask dumb questions that I already knew the answer to.

“I only have one ex capable of hurting someone. But his target was never me. It was himself.” I shuddered as memories of the bloody night broke free from the chains I’d kept wrapped around them. “He’s no longer a threat to anyone. He died.”

REVIEW:

Merit by Devney Perry is an intensely emotional sports romance that delivers all the feels! This slowly burning, enemies-to-lovers story follows Maverick, the brooding college football star, and Stevie, his fiery childhood friend turned enemy, as they navigate a fake relationship that quickly turns into something achingly real. Their chemistry is electric, and the witty banter between them is both sharp and hilarious, making their journey from animosity to affection utterly captivating.

Perry masterfully builds the tension, blending steamy moments with deeply emotional layers as Maverick and Stevie confront their shared past and personal struggles. Maverick’s vulnerability and Stevie’s resilience make them a couple you can’t help but root for. The small-town setting adds charm and depth to their story, while the college football backdrop brings an exciting energy. Perry’s storytelling is exceptional, weaving together passion, humor, and heart in a way that feels authentic and unforgettable. I listened to the audiobook, and the performances delivered by Megan Wicks and Robert Hatchet were outstanding. Their natural chemistry brought these characters to life in my ear buds. Merit by Devney Perry gets 5 smooches from me!

Leighton

He steps closer again, pressing his palm to the wall like he needs the support. When his eyes meet mine, they’re molten.

“If I stay much longer…” His voice is rough, scraping the air between us. “I’m breaking the friendship rule.”

My pulse thrums everywhere, my whole body on fire. “You should go.”

But he doesn’t leave.

He cups my cheek, his hand warm and steady, his thumb brushing against my skin as his gaze roams my face. “Send me a picture when you’re done.”

The words hit me like a hot kiss, leaving me breathless.

Before I can respond, he’s gone, the door clicking shut behind him.

I stand there, my pulse pounding and my skin tingling. The need rises higher in me, so high it’s impossible to ignore.

Later, I’m quiet as I imagine him pinning me down, f*&king me hard, taking me apart.

My toes curl. My legs shake. A moan rises from the depths of my dirty soul. I swallow the sound as I come hard.

Then, with my cheeks still flush, my lips parted, my hair fanned out, I take a photo of my face and send it to him.

Ten minutes later, a reply lands.

Miles: F*&k me.

I roll my lips together, savoring his reaction. Then another drops.

Miles: You’re so f*&king sexy.

My smile grows stupidly bigger. A few minutes later, my phone pings once again.

Miles: It’s not the first time, and it won’t be the last that a picture of you has come in quite handy.

BLOG TOUR WITH EXCERPT: The Drummer’s Heart by Penelope Ward

THE DRUMMER’S HEART, a slow burn, close proximity, second-chance rockstar romance from New York Times Bestselling Author, Penelope Ward, is out now!

Scroll down for an excerpt!

It messed me up to think about her.

My ex, Nicole.

The one who got away and the woman who still owned every piece of my heart.

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward comes a new, STANDALONE novel…

Don’t say her name.

That was the one rule my bandmates followed, because they knew how much it messed me up to think about her, especially on tour.

My ex, Nicole.

The one who got away and the woman who still owned every piece of my heart.

After our divorce, I threw myself into the rock scene, trying to forget my heartbreak.

Three years after we split, a phone call from Nicole changed everything.

She told me her grandmother wasn’t doing well.

Mimi was still family to me, and she apparently had one wish before dying: to spend time with us—Nicole and me.

With Mimi’s caretaker away on vacation, it would be the ideal time for us to move in with her for a couple of weeks.

Of course, I couldn’t refuse.

But there was a catch.

Nicole apparently never told her that we’d gotten a divorce.

She hadn’t believed Mimi could handle it, because her grandmother loved me so much.

So, not only would I have to see Nicole again, but I’d be pretending to still be her husband.

Two weeks in a tiny house in a small town with the woman who broke my heart. Or was it me who broke hers?

It was complicated.

And it was about to be a heck of a lot more complicated sharing one bed in the guest room with a woman who wasn’t mine anymore.

EXCERPT:

Copyright © 2024
By Penelope Ward

While she was out of the room, I prepared her coffee just the way she liked it. I’d nearly forgotten just how much I loved taking care of her. I felt nostalgic for a moment as I poured in just the right amount of sugar. But taking care of her wasn’t my job anymore. I couldn’t help enjoying these little moments of delusion, though, while I still had them. In less than two weeks, we’d be apart again, and I’d go back to my life without her. This time here would seem like a dream.

Nicole emerged again wearing a cute, floral dress that was almost worse than her shirt with no bra. It had a low neckline and her beautiful breasts were practically busting out of it. I had to wonder if she’d selected that outfit to torture me. She’d also sprayed on a fresh burst of Egyptian musk. I licked my lips.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t realize my not wearing underwear was that noticeable.” She looked down at her chest. “I’ll cover up from now on,” she said. But the glimmer in her eye told me she had no real intention of accommodating my request.

Okay. She’s definitely f*cking with me. “You drive me crazy,” I growled under my breath.

Suddenly, my attention was diverted to Mimi’s room. I heard voices. I narrowed my eyes. “Who the hell is here?”

“I don’t know.” Nicole walked down to her grandmother’s room as I followed.

There was a woman standing there talking to Mimi.

“Hi there.” She smiled. “I’m Lori McFadden. I live next door.”

“Oh…” Nicole tilted her head. “Hello.”

“I hope you don’t mind. Adele gave me a key a while back, and I check in on her from time to time. It’s good to see you both. She’s always talking about her granddaughter and grandson-in-law.”

“Aren’t they the most beautiful couple you’ve ever seen?” Mimi beamed.

Nicole looked over at me. I was still fired up by her little dress and wanted an excuse to touch her. I decided to play the part for a moment. “Thank you so much,” I said. “It’s our pleasure to be here with Mimi.” I wrapped my arm around Nicole, bringing her close. She flinched at first but then relaxed her body into mine.

I rubbed my thumb along her waist.

Nicole squirmed and cleared her throat. “I’m sorry if I seemed surprised to see you here, Lori. I didn’t realize she’d given anyone a key.”

“Only recently. Just in case her worker can’t be here or is running late. She has my number if she ever needs me.”

Nicole nodded. “Well, I appreciate that so much.”

I tightened my grip around her waist and pulled her closer. “We appreciate that.”

Nicole looked up at me; her face was beet red, and I f*cking loved it. I leaned in and kissed her softly on the forehead. Her eyes were still slightly closed when I pulled back to look at her. As much as I wanted to hang on, I let go and put her out of her misery.

Nicole couldn’t get away fast enough as she rushed past me through the kitchen and into the bedroom. She leaned against the wall and crossed her arms. “Don’t do that again.”

My stomach sank. It hurt to hear her say that, even if I had crossed the line. “Don’t…what specifically?”

“Touch me.” She lowered her voice. “Don’t touch me again like that.”

That felt like a knife to the heart. “I thought we were pretending to be married,” I whispered. “Married people touch each other.”

Her chest heaved. “Yeah, well, I can’t handle that.”

“Your nipples can’t handle it, at least. They’re hard as f*cking rocks right now. It’s obvious why you don’t want me to touch you, Nicole. It isn’t that you can’t handle it. It’s that you like it. And you don’t want to like it.”

She looked down as her cheeks turned pinker by the second.

My voice was strained. “You tell me not to touch you. And yet you’re intentionally trying to torture me. That f*cking dress. You wore it on purpose because you knew it made your tits look so damn good. And you wanted me to suffer.”

Her gaze lifted to meet mine. “Maybe…”

“You don’t think I’m tortured enough? You put that damn dress on and tell me not to touch you?” I leaned in so she could feel what she was doing to me. “You get off on edging me?” As her breathing became heavier, I inched closer. “You don’t want me to touch you because it makes you feel things you’re trying not to feel? Is that what it is?”

She looked away. “I don’t know…”

I placed my hand on her chin, moving her face to look at me again. “You used to beg me to touch you.”

She licked her lips, and it made me yearn to do the same, to taste her again.

“For the record, Nicole, I will never not be yours to touch. Nor would I be able to pretend for a second that I don’t want you to touch me. You never have to ask permission.” My chest pressed into hers. “You were looking at me our first night here like you wanted to touch me. When I came out of the shower, I could see it in your eyes. Desire. You weren’t happy about it, but it was there. Tell me I’m wrong.”
