For me, curling up with one of Alexa Riley’s steamy, instalove novellas is one of the ways I get away from it all. It’s pure escapism reading, and I’ll be honest, I can use that once in a while. Over-the-top obsessed all alpha male doing whatever it takes—and I do mean whatever—to get the (virgin) girl of his dreams? Yes please! This talented author duo was made to write this genre. I suppose my inner feminist should be screaming in protest at this repeated choice of reading material, but she’s silent. It’s a fantasy, and it’s totally okay to lose yourself in the heat of the moment with a bit of fictional fun.

Romantic, sweet and seriously hot, Hold Tight featured a strong heroine and an even stronger hero. I loved Pandora and Royce together. I loved how she didn’t just capitulate to him and gave him a run for his money—albeit a short run. This was a quick ready, full of sexy tension and lots of fight. I devoured it, and I enjoyed every single minute of it. Hold Tight by Alexa Riley gets 4.5 smooches from me!

REVIEW

Wow, just freaking wow.  I have read a lot of Katy Regnery books and this was completely different in a lot of ways.  They style of writing was certainly different as the writer wrote this in first person present tense, when usually her books are in third person past tense.  But that wasn’t just it.  This story.  It  was gritty and dark and raw and somehow so sweet and beautiful.  It ran me through so many feelings I felt like I had emotional whiplash and I just loved it.

I admit that when the book started I was like I don’t know if I like where this going.  I don’t know if I want to read this.  Both the heroine and the hero had such tragic awful pasts and it all seemed so hopeless to me, but isn’t that what a good writer does in romances?  They give you hope when you think theres none left.  They give you love when all seems lost.  And this book did that for me and then some.

I have to say that I really hope that the author will write more books in this style of writing as I just adored it.  Unloved still had the beautiful writing that I have grown to love from Katy Regnery but it felt more person and I connected more with this story.  I think sometimes romance in first person does that.  Five stars for these beautiful broken characters their epic story.

Review

Accidental Man Whore is the second rom com I have read by Katherine Stevens and I still find her to mix wit and heat in a way that kept me wanting to turn the pages. Miryam and Ben’s story is fun and unique, a twist on the man whore romance genre. I found Ben to be completely lovable and endearing. His reasoning for why he takes money to be a stand in fiancé is sweet and kind.

Overall, this was a fast and funny read. The only thing I can say that would have improved the story for me would be to have the couple get together or at least properly meet earlier on. While many reader probably loved seeing how he got into the escort profession in detail and the downfall of her relationship I personally didn’t need as much as we got. It didn’t drag or anything, this is just a personal preference.

Meghan Quinn is one of my go-to authors when I need some humor with my heat. I’m telling you, she has that nailed and always delivers a hot and hilarious story without missing a beat. I’ve read many of her books, laughing myself silly while simultaneously fanning myself—no easy feat, mind you, while also holding a Kindle. Some of the stuff she comes up with is so ridiculously absurd, and her verbal slapstick is my kryptonite. To this day, I cannot see or hear the word flaps without thinking of Meghan Quinn and her infamous character, Bellini. When an author can do that to me, when their words, whether they be emotionally meaningful or comically amusing, stay with me long after I’ve finished the book, I know I’ve struck gold.

See, here’s the thing, though, Quinn is by no means a one-dimensional author. Sure, her sense of humor is front and center, but Quinn is also quite stealthy in the way she manages to weave powerful emotions into her stories. Every single time – every.single.time. – she manages to surprise me with a sucker punch to the feels. I’ve read enough of her work to know that I’m not going to get a simple romantic comedy when I pick up one of her books. Oh no, there is going to be strong emotion and a sweet romance intertwined with all that wit and heat, and it’s definitely not going to be an afterthought, it’ll be an integral part of the story. I know this about her work, and yet the depth of feelings I experience when I read her work still never fails to amaze me. I don’t know why this is or how she manages to pull it off, I’m just grateful for that consistent reading experience.

Bourbon Sins is the first book in her re-titled, re-covered, re-edited and re-released Bourbon series, formerly known as the Jett Girl series. The Jett Girl series is some of Quinn’s earlier work and a series of hers I hadn’t yet read. I was offered the opportunity the read advance copies, and as soon as the books went live, I was click, click, clicking away. Bourbon Sins begins the complex story of Jett Colby, a wealthy and powerful New Orleans gentleman’s club owner, and Goldie, or Lo as he calls her, a down-on-her-luck cocktail waitress in one of the seediest strip clubs in the city. Bourbon Sins sets up Jett and Goldie’s three-book trilogy and lays the foundation for Jett’s righthand man, Kace’s, story. This story made my heart race with excitement and anticipation. I think it is by far the sexiest story I’ve read from Quinn to date, and that’s really saying something. I honestly have no idea where this will go, and I cannot wait to start the next book.

A richly developed, provocative, sultry tale meticulously layered with intrigue, sex, emotion and humor, Bourbon Sins sparked my appetite and left me craving the next book. I am positively captivated! Five smooches from me for Meghan Quinn’s Bourbon Sins!

At least not for me. I’ve seen first hand what jumping into a relationship based off sex can do to a couple and it isn’t pretty.

Deciding to march back over there, I don’t bother knocking before letting myself back in. I stomp my way upstairs even though I have no idea where he went, I’m not thinking straight anymore. My heart is racing but I’m determined to give him a piece of my mind.

She lives in the frozen tundra of Packer Nation with her husband, 6-year-old wild child, and two teenage stepsons. When she’s not writing, you can find her reading love stories, listening to music that inspires her, and laughing with her family. Brooke is addicted to Starbucks coffee, leggings, and naps. She found her passion for telling stories during winter break one year in grad school–and she hasn’t stopped since.

Lyra Parish loves to write, glamp, and sing obnoxiously loud at the top of her lungs in the shower. Sweet love stories (along with the dirty ones) make her gush. She is a firm believer that a person can never have too many cups of coffee, cats, or happily ever afters. When she isn’t busy writing with Brooke as Kennedy Fox, she can be found sipping various beverages from her non-alcoholic drink buffet, pimp slapping excel spreadsheets, or riding her bike. Lyra lives in Texas with her glassblowing, guitar-playing hubby and black cat named Nibbler.
