Synopsis

as·sump·tion:

a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, without proof

They say when you assume that you make an ass out of you and me. Kenton Mayson learned this lesson firsthand when he made assumptions about Autumn Freeman and the kind of woman she is based on what little information he had. What he finds out is she’s not only beautiful, but also smart, funny, a fighter, and exactly the kind of woman he wants to share his life with. Autumn made assumptions of her own about Kenton, and now he needs to prove her wrong in order to protect her and their future.

Review

I absolutely love reading Aurora’s books.  She always gives me my Alpha fix and Assumption didn’t disappoint.  Oh Kenton, you are too much alphalicousness for your own good!

Autumn comes to stay with Kenton for protection.  Kenton immediately assumes the worse about Autumn.  In true alpha fashion, he tries to push her away and be completely rude to her.  He wants to protect her but keep her at arms length.  When he finally realizes that his assumptions were wrong, Autumn is too pissed to consider forgiving him.  She is angry and spitting fire mad at him, but wildly attracted to him.  Commence the battle of wills and we all know that a true Alpha does not give up easily.

I loved that while this book had very serious subject matter, (Autumns safety and protection) Kenton and Autumn were still hilarious and fun.  Their arguments and fights made me chuckle on more than one occasion.  Their sexy banter was cute and hot.

“Every time you fuck with me, it makes me wanna fuck you.  One day, we’re going to get to a point in our relationship where you’ll say something to set me off, and I’ll bend you over right where you stand and punish you for misbehaving or talking back…”

Um yes please!  I will have a cup of that, thanks!

Kenton is so crazy alpha and I absolutely loved him.  But nothing makes me happier than when an alpha is proved wrong by his woman and he goes all soft and takes care of her.  Sigh.  These two make me smile!

“you’re a fucking warrior.”

If you love yourself an alpha-male protecting the woman he loves at all cost, you need to grab this book.  It was written and edited incredibly well and was sexy as sin with a heaping side of action!

About IGNITED

He promised to take me as far as I could go—and I wanted to go to the edge.

My whole life has been a cover, a con, a lie. I was born into the grift, raised on the thrill of playing someone I’m not. As a rule, I never let anyone get too close—until Cole August makes it impossible for me to stay away.

Cole is tough, sexy, and intensely loyal, yet his secrets are dark and his scars run deep. Not many women can handle his past, or the truth behind his fierce demands. But something about him beckons me—and our desire is a game I must play.

I know he’s dangerous, that even his touch is trouble, but what is passion without a little risk?

Excerpt:

He let go, then moved to face me. I missed his touch, but the trade-off was worth it. I’m not the kind of girl who swoons over hunky firemen calendars and I’ve only seen Magic Mike once. But as far as eye candy went, Cole was a walking, talking Milky Way bar, and at least as tempting.

“Really,”he confirmed. An easy smile bloomed on his face, and he shook his head slowly, with obvious pleasure. “I didn’t realize that working as a barista required such honed salesmanship.”

“I’m a woman of many talents,”I said, then fluttered my lashes.

“Damn right you are.”He drew in a breath as he looked at me, and try as I might, I had no clue what he was thinking.

“That was quite the commission you just brought in,”he finally said. “I have a feeling you’ll be getting Christmas cards from Tiki for the rest of your life.”

“I look forward to it. What about you?”I asked boldly, and blamed it on the wine. I met his eyes, and fervently hoped that mine really were a window to the soul, because right then I wanted him to see straight inside me. “What will I get from you?”

“That depends on what you want.”

“Want,”I repeated. Where Cole was concerned, what didn’t I want?

“I told you earlier that you owed me,” he said. “Do you want to call us even?”

“Do you?”

He was silent for a moment, and then one moment longer. “No,”he finally said.

I lifted my chin. “Good.”

His expression remained perfectly stoic, but he lifted his hand toward my face, then dropped it, as if he were a child who’d caught himself about to do something naughty.

“It’s okay,”I said, my voice almost a whisper. “I won’t break.”

“Don’t be so sure, blondie. I’ve been known to destroy even the most resilient things.”

“I’m not a thing. And you won’t destroy me.”I hesitated only a second, then took one step closer. The difference was only inches, but the air seemed suddenly thicker, as if my lungs had to work harder to draw in oxygen. “It’s okay,”I said again.

All around us, the party continued, but I’m not sure either one of us was aware. Instead, it felt as if we’d stepped into a vortex, and at least in our little corner of space and time nothing else mattered or even existed.

I held my breath, wanting his touch so badly I could taste it. And when he finally brushed the side of his thumb over my cheekbone, it was all I could do not to moan aloud.

All too quickly he took his hand away, leaving me bereft.

All too quickly he stepped back, forcing the world around us to come back to life.

“I just had to see if I was right,”he said.

“About?”

“Your skin. It’s like touching a promise.”

“Is it?”I murmured.

“Tender,”he said. “And a bit mysterious. With layer upon layer just waiting to be discovered.”

My breath stuttered in my chest. “I didn’t know you thought that,”I said. “I didn’t know you thought about me at all.”

He was silent for so long I began to fear he wasn’t going to answer. When he spoke, his words cut through me, sharp and sweet. “I think about you more than I should.”

It was suddenly very warm in the gallery. Little beads of sweat gathered at the hairline on the back of my neck. I needed air, because it seemed as if all the oxygen had been sucked out of the room.

Somehow, miraculously, I formed words. “What are you thinking now?”

EXCERPT:

During the break between second and third periods, Weston came to my locker with a very different look on his face than he had that morning on the way to school. His cheeks were red, and he was breathing fast.

“What did Brady say to you?” he asked.

I shook my head. “It doesn’t matter.”

“It matters. I heard he said you were happy that Alder died, and that you were benefiting from her death, and that he also mouthed off about Julianne, and you freaked out in class. Is any of that true?”

“Close enough.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked, a little hurt.

“Are you upset?”

“No, I’m pissed off. I’m bordering on rage.”

“That’s why.”

He shifted. “Why let him get away with it, Erin? Why keep letting him treat you that way? He should get a fist in the face, his ass kicked, trip and fall face-first…something. People like that don’t just get to treat people like trash and go on with their life with no repercussions.”

“Didn’t you say the other day to feel sorry for them?”

“Brady makes it really hard to feel anything toward him but extreme loathing. It’s not just you. What about that impression he does of Annie Black every time she motors by in her wheelchair? What about Jenny Squires?”

“What about her?”

“She was the boys’ basketball manager just one season, because every night after an away game, she had to wash Brady’s snot out of her hair. He’d sit behind her, no matter where she was on the bus, and hock loogies in her hair. As many as he could clear out of his throat until we pulled into the school parking lot.”

“If you knew about it, why didn’t you say anything?”

Weston looked wounded. “You’re right. I should have done something. A lot of somethings. Especially for you.”

“You did.”

“Ten years too late. Just like Frankie said.”

“Better than never. You can’t save the world. I’m just curious, if you saw it and were so against it, why did you let it go on?”

He looked down. “Maybe I’m a coward.”

“You’re not a coward.”

“Maybe I was until now.”

Brady walked by and whistled his disapproval. “Still slummin’ it, Gates.”

Weston grabbed Brady by the T-shirt and turned, slamming his back against the locker next to mine.

I flinched and stepped back. Brady’s eyes grew wide, and in that split second, it was like we were both wondering the same thing: what Weston would do next.

“If Karma won’t kick your ass, I will,” Weston seethed, with a tiny hint of a wheeze.

“What the hell is wrong with you?” Brady yelled.

I touched Weston’s arm, taking a quick glance to see if any teachers were coming.

“Weston?” I said, trying to keep my voice calm. “Weston. Let him go.”

Weston’s wild eyes slowly relaxed, and he released the two fistfuls of T-shirt in his hands.

“If and when his behavior catches up with him, that’s his Karma. How we react is ours.”

Weston’s breathing slowed, and his shoulders relaxed.

Brady walked off quickly, straightening his shirt and rocking his neck from side to side, as if he would or even could retaliate. All he had were his words, and even he knew it. That was why he used them so viciously.

Students had only paused for a moment, thinking a fight was about to break out, but it had ended so quickly, no one had time to congregate and draw more attention. Like nothing had ever happened, everyone walked to class, passing one another like two opposing rivers, taking the same path every day without knowing why.

“Sorry,” he said. “Lost my temper.”

The wheezing that had been barely audible before was more prominent. Weston worked a little harder to pull in a breath.

“Do you have your inhaler?” I asked.

He nodded, pulled it from his pocket, shook the palm-sized container, and squeezed, taking a puff. He kissed my forehead and then walked away without uttering anything more, except for a cough halfway down the hall.

Through the glass surrounding the library, I saw a few students staring at me. I shook my head and made my way to class. Within the walls of our high school were the weak, the sad, the pompous, and the proud, all flying down the same road at a hundred miles an hour to an end for which we weren’t ready. Students who were barely able to remember to bring their coats home from school were waiting to be unleashed into the world as adults.

Part of me was glad that I’d had to fend for myself for so long. Without their mothers nearby, most of my classmates had no clue how to balance their checkbook or even how much Tylenol to take and how often. In school we were babied, scolded, and told when to eat. We even had to raise our hands for permission to go to the bathroom. In just a few short weeks we would be free to rack up credit cards and student loans, or to sign contracts for an apartment we might not be able to afford, because we were taught how to learn, but not how to live.

That was one small thing I could always appreciate about my upbringing, and yet I still wouldn’t wish it on anyone else. I would never get my childhood back. In many ways I had always been the adult, and it was hard to adjust to having parents and now a boyfriend who wanted so much to take care of me.

My thoughts faded away as the posters taped to the wall drew my attention. Decorated in glitter, the posters had letters that spelled out things like FIRE AND ICE BALL and TICKETS ON SALE! By the excited chatter in the halls, it was obvious that prom was quickly approaching, as was graduation and summer. The energy in the hallways was nearing its peak.

Settling into my desk, I thought about Weston and the sound he made when he tried to breathe. I didn’t know a lot about asthma, but Weston didn’t make a big deal out of it either.

I pulled my phone from my pocket, looked up my messages, and clicked on his name. That seemed like the easiest way to go about it.

The bell rang, but I kept the phone in my lap and tapped the screen anyway.

Feeling better?
🙂 Hey. Yeah? Why?
Just checking. You were kinda wheezing
earlier
.

Nah. 😉

😉

The phone slid smoothly back into my pocket, and the exhilaration of breaking the rules came over me as Mr. Barrows began his lesson. I’d seen so many people do it before and couldn’t for the life of me figure out why they would risk getting in trouble, their phone taken away, or detention. It was clear to me in that moment why they did it, and it had nothing to do with the text message itself.

I promised myself I wouldn’t do it again, but that wasn’t the only promise I would break that day.

Easter, raised by a neglectful single mom, keeps to herself and admires Weston Gates from afar. Alder has even claimed Weston since the 8th grade.

Weston is a well-liked star athlete, and the son of two prominent attorneys. He struggles daily with the pressures of living up to his family name and secretly empathizes with Easter’s feeling that she belongs somewhere else; in a different life. Not until he begins sneaking nights out with Easter does he gain the courage to buck expectations and acknowledge his feelings … both for his future, and for her.

A shocking tragedy rocks the tiny town, and Easter’s life is turned upside down in the best way possible. But when the truth is revealed and everything she thinks she wanted falls into her lap, life only becomes more complicated.

Excerpt

“Don’t shoot!” Putting down my camera and raising my arms over my head, I stepped out from the olive grove into the sun. “Lutfen,” I added, the Turkish word for please. “I’m a tourist. Do you speak English? I’m sorry if I’m trespassing, but I thought this was public land.”

It sounded ludicrous, but with my heart thudding and my stomach so cramped I thought I might double over and collapse before he could bother to shoot me, it was the best I could come up with. He was advancing again, his hard face expressionless, his eyes narrowed to slits as they flicked over me, taking in my appearance from my long, ill-kempt hair to my new leather boots.

His gaze lingered for an instant on my breasts and hips. As he closed in on me, I could see that his eyes were light green, the color of tropical seawater. Beautiful eyes, thickly fringed with gold-tipped lashes. Yet for all their beauty, they were mercilessly cold.

He was five yards away, then two, then one. He stopped. The gun, a large ugly pistol, was pointed dead at the center of my body. If he shot at this range, he couldn’t miss, nor would I survive. “Please,” I said again, lips trembling. “No English? French, then?” My French was not terrific. “Je suis americaine.” Instinct warned me not to try Turkishan American tourist wouldn’t speak more than a polite word or two of that language. “Je suis une touriste. Comprenez-vous?”

“Who are you and what the fuck are you doing here?” he said in English.

“Thank god, you do understand me. It would be stupid for you to shoot me just because we couldn’t communicate.”

He must have found this answer flip, since he reached out, caught my wrist and jerked me against his body. My yelp of surprise died in my throat as one hand captured my arms behind my back while the other held the barrel of the gun to a point just below my left breast. His touch was both impersonal and professional. It didn’t hurt, but this wasn’t reassuring. If he had to kill me, he would do so swiftly, with a minimum of fuss.

“You have five seconds to explain yourself.”

“I was camped here.” I nodded in the direction of my pack. His English was more than excellent; it was perfect. He sounded as if he might be British, although there were American inflections, too. “I had trouble with my bike. I couldn’t make it to the official campgrounds.”

“You were photographing us.”

“I was photographing the coastline. Not you.”

“You expect me to believe that?” He kicked at my camera, which rolled over in the dirt. Inwardly I winced, and would have cried out “Don’t hurt my camera,” if it hadn’t seemed a frivolous concern, given that he was probably about to end my life.

“That’s a telephoto lens, so cut the lies.”

Review

When photographer Ellie Heath stumbles upon criminal activity, she is kidnapped by the criminals. Modern-day pirates, to be exact. Smuggling artifacts and hiding it from Turkish authorities is one of the many hats our pirates had. There is also a glimpse into the sex trafficking for some pirates, causing a greater fear for Ellie and her life. Smart, witty and strong, Ellie will not give up on her fight for survival. And when she least expects it, romance and Nick blow the doors wide open!

Sea god Nick Gabriel, is gorgeous but he terrified me. His character gave me the goosebumps my mother always warned me about. But I warmed to him and his kinky ways. I just loved how the author peeled back the layers on Nick. Towards the end of the book I couldn’t get enough of him. He was a man on a mission and ,to me, he was like a foreign exotic creature.

Archeological digs, pirates, and adventure is what you’ll be in for. Oh and did I mention the kink?  I really enjoyed reading this book. Linda Barlow took me for this crazy ride and there are no complaints on my end. The writing style was great, descriptive in all the right spots. The story gives both Ellie and Nick’s point of view, which I love. The relationship between the two is different. Desperation to get away from the felons is a constant with Ellie, and well Nick too has something up his sleeve. Just when I thought I knew what was going on, I was blown away. I like to dive into a book and get lost in the storyline and Linda did a great job.  4 smooches for Uncover Me by Linda Barlow.

“That wasn’t so bad,” Lance said as they walked in the green room following the conference. The others had scattered soon after, but Brea had followed him to express her displeasure. She simply stared at him; he had clearly been hit in the head if he thought that press conference went well.

Brea tried for calm but failed miserably. Her temper didn’t flair up often, but when it did she tended to lay waste to everything in her path. “Easy for you to say grabby hands,” she hissed. “And what the hell were you doing insinuating that we had a relationship?!”

“First of all, I wouldn’t have had to say shit if you didn’t try to eye fuck me on the way in.”

Brea narrowed her eyes, gritting her teeth so she didn’t rise to his bait. “I didn’t try to eye fuck you. And who says shit like that?”

He leaned in so close she could feel his breath, causing a tingle in the base of her spine. “The guy who you were about ten seconds away from pulling into a back room.” She pulled away, needing the distance, before glaring at him.

“And don’t touch me again without permission.”

He chewed on his bottom lip, looking her up and down like he knew exactly where he wanted to touch her. “What pisses you off more? The fact that I had to squeeze your leg to prevent you from spouting off at the mouth…or that you wanted me to squeeze much more than your leg?”

Her nostrils flared, from desire or anger she didn’t know. They say there’s a thin line between love and hate, and she never felt it more acutely than she did today, as though ever nerve ending was on fire. She didn’t know why this man did it for her, but he did.

“You are obnoxious as hell.” It was pretty weak as far as comebacks went, but she couldn’t think straight. All she wanted to do was feel, but she wasn’t about to give in to shit when it came to Lance.

“That all you got? You really are…nice.” When he said it like that it made it seem like she had the plague.

“One of us has to have manners,” she replied in a way that would have made Emily Post proud.

“Yeah, and one of us had to preserve your reputation in the media. Will they speculate about us? Yes. Did I play it off so they think there’s nothing serious about us? Yes. Just wait and see what they write about you, I guarantee you will be the victim of my evil clutches.” She shifted from side to side, knowing he was probably right. They would be much more forgiving of her, but if she said anything they would have circled like vultures around new prey. She should probably thank him for his foresight, but he had been such an ass about everything.

“And as far as the other stuff- the shit between you and me? You look at me like that again, and I guarantee we’ll be doing a lot more than playing grabby hands under the table.” And just like that, he walked away, slamming the door on the way out. She plopped down on the couch, trying to pretend like she didn’t want to call him back for more.

For Fallon, is a contemporary romance/ romantic suspense book. And I enjoyed every minute of this book. It had the right amount of romantic sexy time. Just when I thought I had the book figured out, I was left with my jaw dropped and couldn’t look away from my kindle. I can’t tell you how many times when the story was intense I would look down at my kindle percentage and wonder if there was going to be enough time left. Holy goodness there is a cliffy, so beware! And there are some graphic scenes, so mature audiences please. I needed book two like yesterday! I need to know what’s going to happen! 4 smooches for For Fallon by Soraya Naomi.

“You know what I did for you? The risk I took?” I nod.

“I know. Thank you for protecting me.” The words are pouring out of my mouth before I can even think. I will do anything for him to take the gun away from my head and calm down.

“I fucking risked EVERYTHING for you, and you don’t even care?”

Oh God. Oh Godohgodohgod.

“I do care,” I say, and I do the only thing I can think to do to calm him down. I take his cock in my hands and start stroking back and forth, making a tight fist. He seems to relax almost immediately, but doesn’t take the gun away. I look up at him through my eyelashes and see his face still incredibly tense, his body twitching with too much pent-up energy and high-grade methamphetamine.

I have to do something. I take his cock and guide it gently to my mouth, teasing the underside with the tip of my tongue. His whole body is still shaking but he moans and drops the gun to his side, his other hand stroking my hair.

I keep going, thankful that I at least don’t have to look at him. I pretend that we are other people, somewhere else, and this, too, makes it easier to keep going. I sigh with relief when the gun clatters to the floor and he uses both hands to grip the sides of my head.

“Baby girl,” he moans, rocking his hips in rhythm, his cock as hard as ever.

The story began with Seven Sons….

My father was most certainly NOT an innocent man. As the leader of the Gypsy Brothers MC, he was guilty of many things. But he died for a crime that he didn’t commit, framed by an enemy within who then stole his club and everything he had ever worked to protect.

Including my innocence.

When Dornan Ross framed my father, he set into motion a series of events that could never be undone. My father was murdered by Dornan Ross and his sons when I was fifteen years old.

Before my father died, Dornan and his sons stole my innocence, branded my skin and in doing so, ensured that their lives would be prematurely cut short. That they would suffer.

I’ve just turned twenty-one, and I’m out for blood. I’m out for revenge.

But I didn’t expect to fall for Jase, the youngest brother in the club.

I didn’t expect that he would turn my world upside down, yank my heart out of my chest and ride away into the sunset with it.

Now, I’m faced with an impossible choice – Jase, or avenging my fathers death?

Then there were Six Brothers…….

I have lied.

I have cheated.

I have given my body and my life to the man who destroyed my family and left me for dead.

I have killed, I have sinned, and worst of all, I have enjoyed the misery of others.

I have licked the salty tears of a father mourning his firstborn son, and nothing has ever tasted so sweet.

I have died, and I have been resurrected, a phoenix from the ashes.

I know I’m going to hell. I’ll burn in the fiery pits alongside Dornan and his sons for the things I’ve done, and for the things I’m about to do.

But I don’t care. It will be worth every lick of the devil’s flames on my guilty flesh to destroy Dornan Ross.

One down. Six to go.

Five Miles…..

My father taught me the importance of an eye for an eye—a cardinal rule, ingrained in every club member.

A life for a life.

Seven lives in payment for an unimaginable list of sins.

People might wonder why I’m doing this. If this vengeance is borne from some noble cause, that I’m trying to prevent others from suffering at the hands of Dornan Ross and his sons.

But I’m no vigilante.

I’m doing it for me. I’m doing it because I want to. Because the look on Maxi and Chad’s faces when I killed them was a balm to my soul.

This is the fate they have earned. The penance for their crimes.

Two down, five to go.

Time to send some of these brothers off with a bang.

Four Score, Gypsy Brothers, #4)

Four Score ….

Love and hate aren’t all that different.

Two sides of the same coin, the yin and the yang.

Once upon a time, Jason Ross loved me. And now that he’s in danger of figuring out what I’ve done, I see the love and the hate warring within him.

I see the way he looks at me.

The way he wonders how I could do the things I’ve done.

I hear it in the way he begs me to stop, to leave his father and this life and never look back.

But there’s only one way I’m leaving LA.

And then there was Three Years…..

Every day for six years, I used to pray that I would find my way back to the boy I loved.

Until finally, one day, I did.

But that’s the funny thing about life. Nothing good ever lasts, not for me, anyway. You think you’re the one with the power, at least I did, but then I got careless. One tiny mistake, and now I am powerless to stop what comes next.

People think money equals power, but all the money in my bank account, the dirty notes laundered clean that my father left for me, are useless.

Money does not equal power. Power is held by the one with the knife in his hand, tracing shallow cuts into your skin.

Power is held by the one who owns you.

I had power once.

                                                    Now, I have nothing.
