Review

This book follows Noah and Georgina as they try and navigate their way through life while fighting the things that are trying to pull them under. Georgina is hit with a tragedy that causes her to fall on a downward spiral, we get a quick glimpse into this at the start of the book. Noah who is her sister’s best friend becomes the hero to Georgina, he becomes a person that she feels safe with. Noah is fighting his own past and also his need for control.

Georgina at the beginning of the book takes drastic measures to escape the feelings that she is having, but luckily for her Noah is there is help her. 4 months later, after some much needed personal time, Georgina comes home. She is trying to move on from what happened but it seems the only people that are willing to treat her normally and not like some fragile little girl are Noah and her older sister Ellie.

Noah has had his head all over the place in the 4 months that Georgina is away, he can’t stop thinking about her and is unsure why these feelings seem to have surfaced. He is glad he was there the night tragedy struck but he is also unsure of how to be around her because of the pull he feels towards her.

Noah and Georgina have a weird sort of comfort, safe relationship when she first returns as they seem to both get something from the other. Noah gets sleep and his nightmares erased and for Georgina she gets comfort and to feel safe. The relationship soon develops into friends and then more. We get to read as the relationship between these two grows into something so much more and also something that both of them deserve. The issues they have are soon worked through and the only thing they have to do it is finally admit they both deserve, they are both amazing people who together are better.

Noah is a person that needs complete control in his life as he never had it in the past. “I’d risk it all for this girl. Give up all the control in my life for her. And it was as simple as that.” Georgina just needs to feel like being saved was the right thing. “Seriously, Noah. You’re worth living for.”

This is such a fantastic read, and once I started it I couldn’t out it down. I wanted to know what happened with Noah and Georgina. Well done Sarah Darlington on a fantastic read.

The story of Angel and Luke continues in this fast paced adventure that makes your skin tingle. As a reader, I just love the anticipation of what’s to come and Tess does such an amazing job at setting the stage so to speak. There is a lot of uproar and turmoil in this book, surrounding Dreygon, Angel’s grandfather and the rival MC. Dreygon is slowly losing his sanity and Angel is teetering on the brink of just forgetting everything and running away, her family be damned. Angel struggles with knowing what is right, what is wrong, what she wants out of life. She is a natural healer. She tries her hardest to repair things, not break them like her grandfather. She leans heavily on Luke for guidance, love and support. In fact, they both lean on each other. In their messed up worlds, they found each other and that is the one truth they cling to.

One word I’d use to describe both Angel and Luke is survivor. They both have experienced their own personal hell, yet they still wake up every day and manage to survive, even in the direst of situations. With these terrible circumstances surrounding the club, Angel takes it upon herself. She must survive, and to do that, she needs to be free from her monstrous grandfather. Even though they are certain they belong together, there is a moment when betrayal rears it’s ugly head. What do you do when the man you have put all your hopes and dreams in betrays you with deception? You still cling to the hope, the slight glimmer, because things were not supposed to go that way. Angel and Luke were meant to be together, to get away from the compound and to lean on each other.

One thing is for certain in this series, the undying love is addicting. Luke and Angel are one, they have to make it, they just have to!

I hold my head
back and walk toward the delivery truck.
Cole’s eyes are down on the clipboard he is holding in his hands as he
double-checks what he has to take off the truck.
“You’re
a little late to take me up on the drink offer,” I tease as I cross the gravel
drive toward him, shuffling my flip-flops against the rocks.  I am hoping that maybe he is a morning
person and will be in a better mood than the last time I saw him.  No such luck.  He looks up at me quickly, adjusting the bill of his hat to
shade his face, and then back down at his clipboard.  Not even the hint of a grin on his lips. Wow.  His expression is as cold as it was
last night when he walked away from me.
He shakes his head, albeit subtly, but to me it is like a flashing neon
sign that says, “Go away.”
He sets the
clipboard down on the hood of the truck, his eyes never once drifting back to
mine.  Instead, he turns his back
and walks behind the truck.  He
lowers the gate and pulls the pallet lift, loaded up with whatever it was my
mom ordered.  As he lowers the lift
to the ground, he keeps his focus on what he is doing.  It is painfully obvious that he is
avoiding looking at me.  Maybe I
should have looked in the mirror again?
I thought my fitted pink t-shirt and black cotton shorts were cute
pajamas. Maybe I was wrong.  Do
I look that horrible this morning?
“Just
put it outside the barn doors over there,” I say between clenched teeth.  Who the hell does this guy think he
is?  Never in my life have I been
so callously ignored.  I glance over
my shoulder at my mother and Mallory, who are still watching from the kitchen
window.  I roll my eyes at them and
turn back to see if Mr. Personality has finished what he came here to do.  As infuriating as this situation is
becoming, I can’t help but notice how fantastic his ass looks in his
jeans.  The worn denim hangs from
his narrow waist perfectly—not cowboy tight and not gangster loose.  The gray t-shirt that is stretched
across his back reads Wilson Lumber Yard with their catchy slogan underneath—“We
Got Wood”.  I fight back a
giggle.  At least someone has a
sense of humor.  He unloads the
pallet and has the lift back in the truck, all while managing to completely not
acknowledge my existence.
“I’ll just go ahead and sign
for this so you can be on your way,” I say as he climbs out of the back
of the truck.  This time, the icy
tone of my voice catches his attention. I can feel his eyes on me as I walk to
the front of the truck.   “I’d
hate to keep you from the obviously more important things you would rather be
doing.”  Leaning over the hood, I
pull a pen from the holder on the top of the clipboard.  My frustration with his attitude is
made perfectly clear as I furiously click the plunger on the top of the
pen.  My eyes are busy scanning for
the space I am supposed to sign when a sudden shadow is cast over my
shoulder.  I can feel his breath on
my neck and his body resting behind mine.
It must be the nature of the position we are in because I have to fight
the urge to back into him.  To feel
his hard body against my backside.
My skin is on fire and my brain immediately tries to reason that it is
anger as opposed to something else.
“Do
you mind?” I snap, turning to tell him to back off.  But he doesn’t. Instead, he places his hands on the truck,
catching me between his muscled forearms and pinning me between his delicious
body and the truck.  Even under the
bill of that hat he is always wearing, I can see his shaded eyes narrow in on
mine.  It isn’t with contempt or
agitation—it is something else.
Yes.  He is looking at me
like he wants to tear my clothes off, and I would let him. 
He closes the
distance between us.  Here we are,
chest to chest.  The air around me
instantly thickens, making it nearly impossible to breathe.  His eyes go to mine and then to my
lips, the same way they did at the bar.
He takes in a shallow breath, and I can tell he is having a hard time
breathing, too.  I’m not sure if I
should duck out from under him and run or throw myself against him.  I’ve never been so intimidated or so
turned on in my life.  It is
infuriating.  He licks one corner
of his lips and I think for sure he is going to kiss me.  Seconds tick and he still hasn’t
moved.  Is he waiting for me to
give him the okay?  Does he really
want to kiss me?  I raise my chin
slightly and let my eyes close.  I
hold my breath, waiting for his lip to fall on mine, and forget every reason I
should be mad at him for.  That is
until he utters three words that manage to remind me. 
“No
signature required.”

Born and raised in the middle of a Midwestern cornfield (not literally, that would be weird), I’ve spent my entire life imagining stories. Stories where the right guy always gets the right girl, first kisses are as magical as they are on the big screen and anything is completely possible if you believe.

Although this journey began years ago, it recently took on a whole new life. After years of devouring hundreds of Romance, YA and New Adult novels, I had an epiphany… I should write a book. And I did it!

“One thing’s clear. He’s dangerous. And he’s beautiful.”

I am going to be honest and say that this review is hard for me. Parts of this book were five star and parts were 3 star so I decided to split the difference and go with 4 stars. While overall I enjoyed the plot of this book, and I am a sucker for a from different worlds romance I felt that the writing at times was not as smooth as I would have liked. The two main characters Faith and Deigo, are both ones I fell for right away and I was rooting for the two of them to get together straight from the beginning. However, as the story went on I wanted to shake Faith and tell her to let it all go and give in! But I guess sometimes that is needed in order to build up the story. These two could not come from different worlds. Faith is a middle class white preachers daughter who has a few things in her past that only her BFF knows about. Diego has just moved here from Cuba where he was involved in some less than good things. Both of these two just want to be themselves but have a hard time giving in.

While a bit of a cliche, I really liked Diego. He made the story for me. He was both a jerk and a sensitive man. He pushed and pulled Faith and forced her to stretch past her comfort zone. Before You is packed full of love, desire and action. I found it to be a fast read and once the story started I needed to know how it ended! I will warn you while romantic and action packed this story is very YA and if you are looking for some sex this is not the place to find it. But if you are looking for a different twist on a high school romance this might be for you.

Review

Make My Heart Beat is the second book in the Shameful Regret Series and I am so so happy to finally get the conclusion of Lynae and Connor’s story.  I liked this story even better than the first book in this series, In A Heartbeat.  I don’t know if it was the anticipation or just the culmination of so much drama that came to a head at the end of the last book, but I really enjoyed all of the angst in this one and how it all played out.  Another reason that I might have loved it just a bit more than the first is that this book had dual point of view and I am a really big fan of that.  It certainly made a difference hearing and seeing things from Connor’s point of view.

Lynae and Connor were left with some serious problems and obstacles at the end of In A Heartbeat.  The biggest being that Lynae does not feel she can trust Connor because he won’t open up to her about whatever problems he is having.  I really felt for these two troubled people.  Honestly, I was pulling hard for Connor this entire book, even though I know he made some pretty terrible mistakes where Lynae is concerned.  These two are both just a hot mess, and I absolutely loved it.  No one loves drama more than me and Connor and Lynae are just one dramatic event after the next.

OK, a few things here that I need to say.  In A Heartbeat was really great but Make My Heart Beat was even better.  I think that it flowed better and the story kept my attention the entire time.  I literally read it in one sitting.  I feel like Liz’s writing and presentation of her stories is improving with each book.  Also, I really just love ALL of her characters.  I am most certainly excited for Sly’s book.  He is such a macho hot head that I just know he is going to deliver the drama and the steamy sex!  Whew, I know what is coming Sly. and I am definitely looking forward to it!  But, I really feel like I need to talk about Seth for a minute.  He really stood out in this book and I am head over heels for this man.  I am DYING for his book.  I really very much need his happily-ever-after right this moment.  I do not know why but he just stole my heart, and I need to know more about him right now!  This series is coming together so nicely.  My love and attachment to the characters is growing every book and I think that Liz may need to quit her full time job so that she can write and feed my Shameful Regret addiction.
